NCT sales are like those Black Friday scenes with people fighting over big TVs...

marmitecheesetoast · 20/01/2017 12:17

I tired to have a look to see when there was next an NCT sale anywhere near me and the next one apparently isn't til May?!

Had my 28 weeks appointment this morning, midwife measured bump for the first time, said it was right in the top percentile for what is considered normal growth... which didn't surprise me as I do seem to have a massive all out in front bump! Convincing me even more this is a boy... she was like, that doesn't 'necessarily' mean you're going to have a very large baby Shock

Thanks for letting me know about the nighties Abe I'll try having a nosey in local store if I get a chance soon. Your second hypnobirthing class sounds good. I'm hoping to have a waterbirth in one of the pools at the midwife led birth centre at the hospital.
Jpeg I was also thinking of seeing if I could pick up a cheap maternity tankini top for in the pool, thought that would be more comfortable than a wet vest?!

peanutbutter310 · 20/01/2017 16:50

Marmite I also got some of the mothercare nighties in the sale, still plenty of sizes available during the week at our local store.

I got a cheap maternity tankini from there as well for our babymoon, good idea to get a second use of it in the birthing pool! It was £15, but they didn't have loads of options left.

jpeg28 · 20/01/2017 18:18

A Tankini would definitely be best I reckon... not sure I'll get one for my gigantic boobs to fit in though!!

I hope I do get to have a water birth. A friend at work said her entire nct class planned on it and then none of them ended up having one!!

Luchi and Scandi hope babies are doing well! Xx

everdene · 20/01/2017 20:46

I started NCT last night, it was good but I felt they did push natural birth (just as I expected).

finova · 21/01/2017 07:53

I was naked for my water birth (not planned).
Lights were dimmed and I mostly lent over the side. Didn't even feel vaguely exposed at the time.

everdene · 21/01/2017 08:34

Bec those look great but I already have a car seat so it might be a step up from what I need!

I've looked on eBay for a secondhand frame and might do that - NCT sales seem quite well-hidden around here! Must be a conspiracy for the sharp-elbowed parents to get all the good sale stuff!

marmitecheesetoast · 21/01/2017 09:15

Cool thanks peanut will definitely have to have a root around!

I bought a maternity swimsuit for babymoon and general swimming in pregnancy so that won't be much use unless I just cut the bottom bit off haha!

That is good to know Finova, may not feel like I want to wear anything anyway I guess but would be good to try and pick something cheap up to have if I do want it.

Exciting about starting NCT Everdene did everyone seem nice? I guess as long as you go into it knowing they were likely to push natural birth... We start ours in a few weeks, looking forward to it!

Off to look at nursery furniture in Ikea today, anyone else bought any from there?

PinkUnicorn1990 · 21/01/2017 09:45

Marmite we bought our nursery furniture from Ikea. got a cot, storage bench and 2 wardrobes. The kids wardrobes are great as you can get different shelves/baskets/drawers depending on what you want Smile Good quality too Smile

everdene · 21/01/2017 10:25

Everyone seemed nice Marmite, one couple were much more reserved but I guess everyone has different levels of comfort about discussing vaginas, breastfeeding and birth!

What kind of storage is everyone getting did the baby's room? We don't have a wardrobe or anything yet but I know we'll need an IKEA visit soon - I'd be interested to hear how the nursery furniture is.

Helbelle75 · 21/01/2017 14:13

We've got a wardrobe in our nursery, one side hanging, one shelving. There's an inbuilt unit with flat top and shelves under and we're going to see if we can fit a storage tidy in, but nursery is tiny!
We bought our cot from mamas and papas and wardrobe was jysk.

We started our antenatal classes a couple of weeks ago. It's with a local midwife and she's great. There are only 3 other couples and they're all really nice. It's all starting to feel very real now!

We got a set from mamas and papas that comes with matching bookshelves and toy chest. DH is building it while I'm away this weekend. Can't wait to get home and see the room, that's just been full of boxes for weeks, starting to come together as a nursery!

We don't start antenatal classes until 1 March, now thinking that it seems very late compared to all of you!

purpleviolet1 · 21/01/2017 19:13

We got a mama's and papas wardrobe, cot and changing unit (which can be used as chest of drawers after). Got our second antenatal class on Monday. 30+1 today

Celticlassie · 21/01/2017 20:43

Are Ikea cots standard size or awkward sizing like the beds? I'd rather not be tied to IKEA bedding if possible.

purpleviolet1 · 22/01/2017 09:49

Just wanted to say everyone is doing so well on this thread and it's so nice to read Smile

Typically after I posted yesterday the movements really ramped up. Woke up with aching legs last couple of days and wonder if it's the restless legs kicking in again? I suffered a few years ago but it was a lot better now. I know I'm aneamic but I haven't been having the iron properly ....I should really start as I've had heard stories about difficult births etc and then iron being even lower afterwards which can be really tough.

MrsRhubarb · 22/01/2017 10:58

I've got my heart set on the grey Trogen nursery range from Ikea, but last time I was there they didn't seem to have it and it isn't available online so I'm concerned that it may have been discontinued, which would be very annoying.

I'm planning a home birth, and have a birth pool so fingers crossed I will get to use it! I hadn't really thought about what I'd wear in it, probably just vest top or something. It'll come off as soon as baby comes for skin to skin to doesn't really matter!

abercorn · 22/01/2017 14:01

Hello ladies,
Hope all of you are doing good and so are the two new little ones in the group.
Two questions if i may:

  1. My midwife booked me and hubby for a full day. Is there any other ante natal class that i am missing?
  2. Can u make out from baby's movements whether its the leg or hands? I cant !

Have a good sunday everyone!

choccybiscuit · 22/01/2017 19:20

abercorn I can't make out what is what!it's nice to have a guess though.

abercorn · 22/01/2017 19:58

Thanks Choccy. Ill try to be more discerning when the baby kicks next time!

Strubo · 23/01/2017 14:44

Afternoon Team! I'm seriously considering moving my mat leave forward and finishing in 3 weeks when I'll be 33 weeks. I know I'll have 6 weeks before baby (ELCS at 39) but I've got 2 more at home and I'm shattered and sore! Will have a chat to the husband tonight. Going back earlier is a bit crap but I'm hoping to reduce my hours anyway. When are the rest of you second or more timers finishing?

ChatEnOeuf · 23/01/2017 15:50

I'm stopping at 34w, Strubo - though I may help out for a couple of days longer if they are short on the shop floor. If DH is away with work, it's safer for me to be at work than at home (rapid deliveries)!

Abercorn I can tell which is head and which is bottom when I poke my belly. Punching movements do feel different to big fat kicks too :)

Our NCT was pleasingly balanced - at least two of us are having very managed labours (one elective section and one preterm induction) so we got to sway the course content a little bit.

RaRa25 · 23/01/2017 19:05

sturbo I'm going to finish at 33/34 weeks. Having a section at 38 weeks. DD came at 35 weeks, so want to make sure I am ready.

abeandhalo · 23/01/2017 20:02

I can only tell b/c he was head down in last scan, and the bumps above my belly button are the harder ones so I guess that's the kicks!

Is anyone else finding the movements really different now? Rather than little kicks & punches they are like ripples now which feel quite uncomfortable. I think he's trying to still move about like he did before but is running out of room!

Theknittinggorilla · 23/01/2017 22:13

strubo I finish tomorrow Smile at 28 weeks. I've got a four year old and a two year old and I'm exhausted and have no time. So finishing early but will take at least fifteen months off and not wholly convinced I will go back to that job.
Am definitely ready to stop!

Theknittinggorilla · 23/01/2017 22:13

Also having a section at 38/39 weeks so know baby will be a bit early.
