I'd say more a button too to give birth in so you can have the skin contact then pj's and at least 2 other nighties xx

MrsRhubarb · 17/01/2017 18:02

Hello, just came over to see how Luchi and Scandi and their respective babies are doing. Pleased I found the new thread!

Last time I had a desperate overwhelming urge to pack my hospital bag at about 24 weeks, and literally could not rest until it was done. I remember walking round Sainsbury's after a twelve hour shift picking bits and piece up for it. This time my mad nesting urges have found their place in clearing and decorating the badroom for baby - that she won't be using for at least a year. I think I'm driving DH mad, but I just have to do it!

I bought a couple of nighties to take last time, but just took my trousers off during labour to be examined and never put them back on, and spent the rest of labour in my tshirt which I quickly pulled off as they bundled DD towards me for skin to skin. They wrapped a blanket round up both and I was perfectly happy. I really regretted taking nighties as I felt really self-concious in them when I had visitors, would have been far more relaxed in pyjamas or lounge wear.

CastleFeck · 17/01/2017 18:23

I've given birth twice with just the top on I was wearing already(very fast deliveries)

This time I'm taking one nightie and the rest leggings and maternity tops so I can breast feed easily. I didn't like wearing a nightie on the ward and it was too hot for a dressing gown.

Welcome to the new folks.

LuchiMangsho · 17/01/2017 18:39

We are good. We had cuddles today for nearly 90 mins. Exhausted after a long day at NICU.

KittyRainbow · 17/01/2017 19:17

Hospital bags!! This was a surprise baby (DS is only one and took over 3 years ttc, DD is 9!) and I'd already sold all his tiny baby stuff. I have hardly anything for Pie Confused so technically you could say I've packed for hospital, in that all the baby stuff I have is in a bag in my wardrobe...

KittyRainbow · 17/01/2017 19:18

And Yay for cuddles! How wonderful Grin

KittyRainbow · 17/01/2017 19:23

Oh and I'm working til 7th April (baby being delivered on 13/14th) I prefer to have the time off afterwards - not like I could relax anyway with DS about Grin

ChatEnOeuf · 17/01/2017 21:21

Oh, Lushi that sounds great, hope he's doing well - NICU can be exhausting, do get people to look after you.

DD was in tiny baby clothes until she was about 6w and she was born at term! I make dinky babies (though I'm not a giant myself, so no-one is surprised).

I've also only ever delivered in what I arrived in hospital wearing - too quick to get changed. I think I have a nightie and a pair of PJs, DH can always bring replacements if needed. Which reminds me, I really must teach him to use the washing machine properly...

everdene · 17/01/2017 21:28

I've started thinking about my hospital bag too - it feels absolutely thrilling to be at this stage!

I have my glucose test tomorrow and have been feeling very thirsty so I'll be interested to see how I fare.

So far I have:
Nightie
Old slippers (to chuck)
Dressing gown
Maternity pads
Breast pads
Puppy pads Grin my SIL recommended them
Water bottle
Camera

Would it be better to have something I can unbutton for feeding rather than a nightie? The Pinterest lists are a bit long for my requirements!!

MyGreenSofa · 17/01/2017 22:18

What about a button down nightie everdene?

I'll take button down nightie & 2 pairs pjs again probably. Being on the labour ward with drip in & constant monitoring meant they wanted me to wear the hospital gown to my dismay, and believe it will be the same again!

I need my overnight bag when we go to center parcs when I'm 34 weeks so wasn't going to pack my bag til after that! Now I'm feeling like maybe I should just buy another bag lol.

I felt uncomfortable in a nightie in hospital with DS1 but it was essential as I had to have a catheter. As I'm booked in for a section this time I'll definitely have catheter again - so taking a nightie only for that reason. As soon as it's out it'll be pj bottoms and feeding vest top. The nightie I do have has a few buttons at the top so I can get some skin-to-skin / boob access easy enough.

I bought some bargain flip flops for 50p today for the ward showers. Not packed my bags yet but starting to think about a list. One thing I'll definitely be taking again is my own pillow! So nice to go to sleep (well...doze until feeding time) with a soft, familiar pillow that smells of home Smile

abeandhalo · 18/01/2017 06:56

I got 2x maternity nighties for £10 in the Mothercare sale at the weekend that button down just to the bottom of the boob for breastfeeding so taking those to hospital.

MrsBac83 · 18/01/2017 09:30

Had a sneaky extra scan this morning - Mum's friend works in local ultrasound dept and arranged it for us so we could get a look at the face! So cute!! This time he/she was playing ball and looking the right way. So lovely to watch him/her 'drinking', yawning and sucking their wrist. Smile
The sonographer had a quick measure and says baby weighs about 3lb (average is 2lb at this stage) so could be a bigger baby. Shock Not massive but not small either. Defo not buying any tiny baby clothes lol!

I've written my list and have been buying bits for overnight bag. When I have it all i'll pack it. Cant wait to start washing baby clothes!!

Ooh and I got an invite to my baby shower the other day - my girlfriends have organised it. Other than the date, time and location I have no idea what's planned and apparently that's the way it's staying. So excited for that!

MrsBac83 · 18/01/2017 09:33

Overnight bag!! Like it's a holiday lol Grin I meant hospital bag!!

jpeg28 · 18/01/2017 17:52

Luchi so good to hear from you... glad you're little one is doing well!

Thanks for all the hospital bag advice... has anyone had a water birth before? I have asked for one... I'm assuming just wear a Tankini or vest top in there??

MrsBac that's great you got an extra scan! And so lovely about your baby shower... my friends have planned me one too. Grin

Kitty I'm working until the 7th too! Hope I don't go into labour early... that's my biggest fear!!

I've started thinking loads about birth this week and sort of trying to imagine what it will be like... obviously I can't imagine as I have no idea!!! I want to know what it will feel like so I can prepare myself!

everdene · 18/01/2017 19:31

Ooh a button-down nightie is a good idea!

I've decided not to have a baby shower, am just going to have afternoon tea with my DSisters.

XxBecxX · 18/01/2017 19:31

That's amazing news luchi xxx

JennyOfOldstones · 18/01/2017 21:06

I can't remember what I wore during labour last time... had catheter though so must have had a nightie on after. Then joggers and vest. DP said my nighties were hideous and I should burn them but they are SO COMFY I still have them in my drawer. So can use them again yippee!

peanut2017 · 18/01/2017 23:02

Luchi lovely to hear you got cuddles! Delighted for you! You must be wrecked!

Going to start thinking about bag next week. Don't think we are allowed bring a suitcase type bag! On the antenatal class the midwife said 3 bags and just leave what you don't need immediately in car.

Mrsbac sounds lovely that you got an extra scan. We were in today and I'm 27.3 and the baby is measuring 30 weeks Shock just gave my husband evils & he just laughed as him him and brothers were all 9/10 pounds! Could just be a growth spurt.

That's great that you're friends are doing a baby shower mrsbac & jpeg lovely gesture

everdene · 19/01/2017 07:09

So lovely to have cuddles @Luchi, one of my DFriends had a similarly premature daughter and that was what they missed most.

Fingers crossed for you both Flowers

marmitecheesetoast · 19/01/2017 07:49

So glad to hear you got lovely cuddles Luchi!

And a nice extra sneaky scan mrsbac

Exciting about baby showers jpeg and mrsbac id like to do something with some friends but my friends are scattered all over the place, not that many that actually live that near me and family far away too so not sure if I'll get anything organised. Maybe afternoon tea with a few people like everdene would
Be a good idea

Have scheduled in a shopping trip to start picking up hospital bag items next week. Also had a look on mothercare online at sale stuff but they didn't seem to have any of the nighties in the sale that someone mentioned up thread, maybe in store only

everdene · 19/01/2017 09:19

Marmite I'm the same, my friends are scattered around and I feel it's a looong way to make them come down for it.

Is eBay the best place for a specific pushchair? I have a Pebble car seat and was going to get a Quinny or similar as the chair to save money. Or would the NCT sales/baby charity shops work?

XxBecxX · 19/01/2017 09:40

Everdene I spotted an absolute bargain set on Facebook uberchild I think was the brand and £250 for car seat pram, carry cot and seat unit.
I think a friend purchased one and that's how I saw it xx

April 2017 # 6 - Third trimester is here!
abeandhalo · 19/01/2017 17:17

It was me that got the nighties from Mothercare and it was in store so maybe they just had a lot of that stock! There were loads of them.

Had 2nd hypnobirthing class last night, we actually got to see a video of a hospital / bed birth (rather than home water birth) so that was really good as that's what all the ladies in the class are having.

HLBug · 19/01/2017 17:46

Everdene the NCT sales are absolutely brilliant- make sure to go before doors open though as there will probably be a queue of people waiting to get in to pick up the best bargains! Our local group posts 'teaser' photos on Facebook the night before which get everyone all ramped up!
