Speaking of travel system/buggies etc- Mamas and Papas have some really decent deals on at the moment. We had already decided we want the Urbo 2 and I found that certain colours are now 40% off to make way for their new season colours. They are nice colours too- navy or grey tweed. We've decided to go an get it tomorrow as doubt we will find it cheaper later in year!

Lallypopstick · 06/01/2017 19:33

It is a bit annoying about the car seat. I know when my niece was a baby, it was handy to be able to use the car seat as the pram if she was asleep - no need to disturb a sleeping baby then!

Betty thanks for the Mamas and Papas tip. I need to start doing some research into what I actually want / need.

Spindelina · 06/01/2017 19:46

littlejay I forgot to say - maternity pay is taxable, so you won't actually get all that money. For the avoidance of doubt.

No idea if this is still true, but fivecyowars ago when I was looking for buggies, M&P buggies had a shockingly bad reputation for customer service. They import buggies sold outside the UK and rebrand them, so they don't have the expertise of an actual manufacturer. Or at least, that was the case five years ago.

Spindelina · 06/01/2017 19:46

fivecyowars five years. Come on, phone!

Spindelina · 06/01/2017 19:52

Oh, and in case you haven't found it yet: www.bestbuggy.co.uk is an independent comparison website. Five years ago it was bloody marvellous. I hope it still is.

10Betty10 · 06/01/2017 20:37

I found that bestbuggy site a while ago- it had a lot of reviews but it doesn't seem to have the newer models (2nd/3rd revised ones, like it has Urbo but not Urbo 2, has Surf but not Surf 2 etc) think it's good if you going for original models though.

Which has good independent reviews and you can do a one month trial for a quid I think. To be honest, we have ended up stopping looking at reviews and going with one that a family member has and loves/has had zero problems with- seems the safest bet! (It also looks very swish which is a bonus!)

Katiess20 · 07/01/2017 02:29

Sorry if I sound like I'm butting in but seen a few posts about people wanting to go for a reassurance scan to hear the heartbeat, I'm 14 weeks on Sunday and bought a angel sounds and it's amazing!! Was a little bit panicked at first because I couldn't hear anything but then I picked it up, there heartbeat Grin it's lovely to have some reassurance specially because of Christmas I don't have my scan till 15 weeks!!

rhodes2015 · 07/01/2017 08:01

thanks Katie, think I'm going to order one!

Lallypopstick · 07/01/2017 08:19

When I went for my 12 week scan, there were a lot of posters in the department advising against buying something to listen to the baby's heart. I think the gist of it was that you shouldn't assume because there's a heartbeat, that everything is ok, and to look out for other changes too. I've found a link that explains it better.

www.nhs.uk/news/2009/11November/Pages/Home-foetal-heart-monitors-risky.aspx

Don't want to put anyone off, but I think for me, it wouldn't provide reassurance, rather it would make me more anxious. Each to their own though!

LuciBee231015 · 07/01/2017 10:33

Now waiting for DH to finish at the gym before I open the Ickle bubba, just sitting here staring at the boxes!

I've also just ordered the tommee tipee essentials electric steriliser kit and a perfect prep machine 😳. That's its for now, think im getting carried away!! 🙈

Really annoyed that I've got to wait until 20th until my next midwife appointment, I'll be 18 weeks by then!

sparkle789 · 07/01/2017 10:49

I bought a Doppler in my last pregnancy and it ended up making me more anxious, but I'm a worrier anyway.

Is anyone having to get up a lot in the night for a wee? I am getting up 4 times most nights. I remember this later on with my other pregnancies but not this early.

thumbsupforthesixbillion · 07/01/2017 10:49

Luci tell him to hurry home I want to know what you think! My next appointment is Tuesday, I'll be 15+4 but needed to get the appointment in before we move area. Down side is I don't think the midwife will listen to baby's heartbeat as it will be a bit too early.

Katiess20 · 07/01/2017 11:18

I'm not saying if you feel like something wrong just use your Doppler, defo not I totally agree. But I silent miscarried at the start of the year and I had no clue so was heartbreaking. So just knowing I can hear them at least before 15 weeks makes me sooooo much better! Smile

Littlejayx · 07/01/2017 11:22

What is everyone doing Pram wise? I don't have much of a choice, my mum has been very generous but pushy and already bought this www.lesters-nurseryworld.co.uk/details.php?id=21203&gclid=Cj0KEQiAwMLDBRDCh_r9sMvQ_88BEiQA6zuAQwML84RTQD4MsfptXxwK7J1SJMnX2YSb4BZFc2Fz2J4aAkOz8P8HAQ

It's lovely but might be bulky??? Confused

rhodes2015 · 07/01/2017 12:16

Luci, my mum got us a tommee tippie steriliser and we got a perfect prep last week. We also have bought a snuzpod which we have got to pick up from boots tomorrow. That's it for us now for a bit too, although glad we have made a start.

Little, that's lovely!! Love the colour. we have had the mutsy igo, my mum has also paid for this but she hasn't actually seen what she's paid for yet as the shop keeps it for you until 6weeks before due date.
We have got to buy a maxi cosi car seat yet though as that didn't come with it.

LuciBee231015 · 07/01/2017 12:25

Little jay, looks lovely! I remember my sister having one like that and she found it really heavy and hard to get in the Car though. Have you tried it in the car etc?

I want an izztwotnot grey and white Moses basket, my friends are going to get us that. Will use that for in our bedroom too.

Notyetthere · 07/01/2017 13:04

Little DH and I had started to look at prams but we overwhelmed by the choice out there. We went to baby's r us but they had a very small selection so we really have not tried out many of them to see which ones we like. I think after the 20wk scan, we shall have to get a move on.

Part of me is very nervous at the moment as to whether baby is ok. The 12 week scan feels like it happened ages ago and now it has been weeks since I had any reassurance. I think this part of why we are holding back on the baby shopping.

Luci I too have never so keen to see your DH back from the gymGrin

thumbsupforthesixbillion · 07/01/2017 13:17

I've got my appointment through for my 20 week scan on the 10th Feb, we should be all moved and settled by then too! Im holding off buying anything else now until after the scan but I would like to have everything by the time I'm 30 weeks.

LuciBee231015 · 07/01/2017 13:55

So... totally happy with the Ickle Bubba! Lightweight but sturdy, easy to put up and fold down, easy to change between car seat and carrycot etc, fits perfectly in my Nissan Juke boot. Easy to manoeuvre and lockable front wheels, nice big shopping basket underneath. We tried the isofix base and car seat in the car too, all perfect! Looks just as good as all the other prams!

July 2017 #3
TinklingTheIvories · 07/01/2017 14:47

Luci- what car is that you've got? It seems to fit in the boot nicely, and we've been looking at this travel set too.

Bawbles · 07/01/2017 14:57

littlejay that's really nice of your mum!

lucie the travel system looks great! Such a bargain too

My pram has a silver frame and I now prefer the black, I'm currently reading tutorials on how to vinyl the frame Blush

DP solution: buy a new pram. I'm being stubborn and saying no. There's nothing wrong with the one we have and if I don't like the vinyl it comes off without leaving any damage.

rhodes we like the snuzpod too, we are going to an event at the mamas and papas store next month and will probably order it then. I've seen a few on local selling sites second hand but DP won't hear of getting a second hand one and just buying a new mattress.

LuciBee231015 · 07/01/2017 15:05

I've got a Nissan Juke which has a ridiculously small boot so really chuffed it fits!

Seahawk80 · 07/01/2017 15:28

I feel the same as you not I'm going to leave pram buying for a while. Luckily my sister has both the ones I want - bugaboo bee and yoyo zen so I can try them out and she might (hopefully) sell me the bee. Her second baby will be 4 months older than mine - if only it was 6 months then I think she'd def be happy to part with the bee. They are so expensive brand new though! I will use public transport a lot so it needs to be really lightweight.

Spindelina · 07/01/2017 15:40

Seahawk, on public transport is one place where slings are really great, if you can get one you like. DD and I were on and off the buses all the time, no matter how crowded. Really recommend it.
