Thanks Seahawk was a bit concerned towards end of day i must say as i didn't feel the baby much? So not ideal... But feeling again towards end of evening and today! Was almost about to go to the hospital third time this week, and i thought i won't be panicking anymore!

glitterglitters · 25/02/2017 17:41

Drew my mother in law did that. Considering we bf and my first never took a bottle I felt like she threw decent money away. I just thanked them and then bought what I wanted. At the end of the day it's your baby and you should be able to choose what you want. My sister got really arsed with me about it saying how that because of mil had bought everything they couldn't buy any presents blah blah blah so unfair blah blah blah.

CatRash · 25/02/2017 18:21

That's crazy. Have you tried having a chat with her and explaining that while she's welcome to buy the baby gifts and they're appreciated at the end of the say it's your baby not hers and you with be fully in charge of feeding, care, whether or not it's Christened etc. Could someone else in the family have a chat with her on your behalf?

DrewOB0 · 25/02/2017 19:26

I'll have a chat with my dad to tell him to calm her down. I think she thinks we're incompetent. She bought me the "what to expect" book today!

Notyetthere · 25/02/2017 23:14

Oh Drew that is even worse and very condescending. I am speechless.

OP posts:
natienka · 26/02/2017 07:14

To be fair the what to expect book is simply really popular... It never crossed my mind that it's for incompetent people, more for people that want to learn current advice and standards.... (Which is also why - sorry if I'm preaching to the converted - baby books should only be read in their newest editions! Ps. Aaarghh. Cannot sleep. For weeks been waking up early. Is this prep for the baby? :)

DrewOB0 · 26/02/2017 07:16

I have the book already, my problem is with her trying to be the mum. She started calling it " my baby" and saying creepy things like " this baby will always have everything it needs"

Lallypopstick · 26/02/2017 07:33

It's so hard Drew as you don't want to offend someone who probably thinks they're doing a nice thing - but the implication that they know best about what you / the baby needs is jarring. Hopefully they'll listen to your dad and back off a bit.

rhodes2015 · 26/02/2017 08:02

Nat, I can't sleep either! I've started hating going to bed because I'm never comfortable as I hate sleeping on my side.

Notyetthere · 26/02/2017 08:26

This reminds me of a lady at work last week who very proudly informed me that, " you are now over halfway there y'know!" I politely feigned ignorance and told her that I hadn't realised 😂. Most of us have so much readily available information at our fingertips now.

Seahawk80 · 26/02/2017 11:39

Sorry you're having a hard time drew stand your ground, I'm sure a local charity would love the gift s you don't want. Don't feel guilty and don't let her guilt trip you by getting upset! It's not her baby. She sounds a bit unhinged tbh - hopefully you don't have to see too much of her Flowers

Flappergirl86 · 26/02/2017 17:22

Hi, can I join you ladies please? I'm due 18th July and my 20 week scan is on Thursday. Desperate to know what we're having and time is going so so so slowly it's sending me a bit nuts. I don't know how people can wait until they have their baby to find out what sex it is. It's like waiting 'til after Christmas dinner before you open any presents instead of diving in first thing in the morning!

...Hopefully having a child will help me with my Patience or lack thereof...

thumbsupforthesixbillion · 26/02/2017 19:26

I think Luci said this already but looks like we need a new thread very soon.

Drew so sorry you are having problems with family, I've worked really hard to put boundaries in place with mine and was very worried about how they would take my pregnancy but they have been okay so far. It's hard to maintain a hard line to family rubbish but I think it's the only way!

Notyetthere · 27/02/2017 08:08

Thumbs I have prepared a new thread but I will wait for this one to get to the 980s responses before I post the new one. I will add in a link to this one leading to the new one.

Morning all!
I had a long chat with my dad yesterday, he's going to get involved and tell her to reign in it. Anyway,
How's everyone? 18 weeks here. I keep feeling " movement " but it's nothing like any descriptions I've read, more like a snake curling around in there.

LuciBee231015 · 27/02/2017 12:31

Bet you feel better now Drew! Try not to stress to much over it!

DH can now feel kicks which is exciting! I have a lot of movement toward my back and bum sometimes as well which is kind of like a snake in there, so think baby switches positions throughout the day.

I am 24 weeks on Friday and have midwife. Hopefully get to listen to heartbeat again!

Effy1990 · 27/02/2017 13:24

Those that have had their 20 week scan, do you need to have a full but comfortable bladder like the 12 week one? And also will it take longer then the 12 week one?

purplebella · 27/02/2017 14:49

Flappergirl! I've missed you! You disappeared for ages and I was worried about you!
I've got my scan tomorrow and will deffo find out what it isGrin

Notyetthere · 27/02/2017 14:50

Effy I didn't need full bladder at all. In fact she asked me to empty it before she finished scanning. It takes from about 30mins to 45mins depending on baby's position. Mine took twice as long as the 12 wk scan. They look at things in more detail - brain, heart, its chambers and aorta, tunmmy size, spine, leg length. She also looked at the nose and lips to check for cleft lip. She struggled to measure the fluid at the back of the neck and she asked me to do some star jumps to see if baby moved. This is enabled her to be able to see if it was a boy or girl.

OP posts:
Flappergirl86 · 27/02/2017 17:29

Hi purple I didn't actually know this thread existed else I'd have been on it sooner! Instead I've been lurking on baby naming threads to mentally scorn/steal other people's choice of baby names.

Do you have a preference as to gender? I know you're meant to pretend you don't care but I'm itching for a girl. I have no idea how to deal with boys. As long as it's healthy and happy it doesn't matter obviously but given the choice I'd pick a little lady for myself...

natienka · 27/02/2017 18:01

Haha, I know what you mean Flapper. I technically did not have a preference. In my first pregnancy that we lost we had a boy, and now I was sure it was also a boy - majority of boys on DH's side, and also apparently it's a higher probability with IVF (not sure why!). And I was right :) I do though hope one day I'll have a daughter, that's for sure.

purplebella · 27/02/2017 19:38

I would like a girl really but I've got a huge feeling it's a boy! I don't mind if it is a boy though!

purplebella · 27/02/2017 19:40

I might have to look for the name threads cos I haven't got a clueConfused

DrewOB0 · 27/02/2017 19:55

I think it's a boy. 1 week to finding out!

Lallypopstick · 27/02/2017 20:59

Is anyone else just really keen to have the baby now? I think because the scan last week will be the last time we see the little one until it's out of there, and I just want it to be 20 weeks time!

That been said, I am enjoying my lazy weeekend naps, so maybe I can wait!
