OP posts:

They are just great aren't they. Makes all the hard work worth it

Birdiebump · 20/02/2007 22:44

SOSPL - My DS2 is also night "training" at the moment. He will be 4 in June so we are also quite late I guess. He's had 3 wet nights in a row, and before that had 3 dry - absolutely no idea why. He seems to wee just before he gets up in the morning (actually no, I tell a lie - this morning it was at 4am....) and sometimes makes it to the loo and sometimes not. We are using bedmats which is making life a little easier. He hasn't asked to go back into nappies but if he did we would be there like a shot!

Saw my lovely midwife today who came on a home visit this evening. DS2 was delighted to hear LO's heartbeat, as was DH, who hasn't heard it in a while. The good news is that at nearly 33 weeks my breech baby appears to have gone head down which bodes well for giving birth at the local midwife unit rather than the hospital in Exeter. Still a way to go yet but fingers crossed.

As regards a birth plan - I'm not doing one but I have done before. I think they definitely have their function though. I read somewhere some sensible-sounding advice about keeping it as simple as possible (one clearly laid out page!) but with salient points (eg. consultation re pain relief / monitoring) made as clear as possible.

I'm not doing one because it's my third time and I'm more confident that both DH and I will be able to say what we need at the time IYSWIM.

Saw that tiny baby - wow.

weeonion · 21/02/2007 00:16

evening folks - good to catch up with the chat!

ellie - happy happy birthday. have a good one - and fab news ont eh ipod. i got one last year and love it. have a full track listing planend for the labour and birth - speakers bought as well. prob wont listen to it but its been a project for dp to work on. have a great weekend away as well - lots of un and frolics

had AN class tonight. more subdued as alot of us were a bit sore. did the labour and stages - oh lordy. talked about birth plans and like maevta mentionned - i can be a bit of a control freak but it really has focused me on what i want / dont want and what i am willing to let go off - which is pretty much everything! certain things i am sure of however - such as donating cord blood etc. sounds strrange but the process of doing it made me feel more in control.

AN appt in the morning to see if this LO has grown and deciede to wiggle out of transverse.

have a great day to you al - hope there is sleepy and well rested nights ahoy!

Katy44 · 21/02/2007 07:19

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELLIE!

muminabigtumi · 21/02/2007 08:04

Morning!

Had a decent nights slepp for a change HURRAY! Really hope that everyone else has too as feel much brigther for it this morning.

AngeG and Eddas - how cute your little ones are - made me feel all warm and fuzzy reading your posts. James swings from complete denial that I have anything in my tummy to the odd moment of wanting to look at my tummy and kissing his "baby sister"....does he know something we don't?!

Happy Birthday again Ellie - Yey for Ipod!! Hope you get some yummy cake too!

SOSPL - Enjoy picking up the Picasso - it is so exciting getting a new car!! What colour is it? Typical girlie question I know!!

Weeonion - glad your class went ok - I remember I really enjoyed them when we went first time around. Haven't bothered this time - more because we struggle to get a sitter for James than thinking I know it all...cos I know I definatley don't but also don't see too much point with having the elective section so I miss out on all the nice meeting other people bit this time which is a real shame. I am sure I will meet some acquaintances when I go to baby massage and mums and tots after though....if I get chance to go!! Hope MW appt goes well and baby has moved for you!

Birdie bump - glad things are "on" for the birth you want.

Well the DVD in bed thing seems to have lost it's appeal, James watched about 2 mins of a DVD this morning before bouncing on me shouting "Come on Mummy WAKE UP! The sunshine is coming through the curtains!!!" Bless him....at least he slept through!!

AngeG - I thought our nursery was expensive but reading about yours and EmmyMummy's fees I feel quite lucky...we pay £28 a full day and £18 a half day...

Just wondered how doginsantas grotto is...if you are lurking hun give us a wave! I'm sure you are fine but I worry! x

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 21/02/2007 08:33

Morning all!

Hope everyone is well.

Had a great nights sleep last night, so feel quite upbeat. Have a rotten cold though which is threatening my sinuses - boo hiss!

Birdie, I know what you mean in that there seems to be no pattern re bed wetting. B always has a wee before bed, and sometimes she is fine, sometimes not. Also, trying to limit the amount she drinks after 6.00, but not easy, esp when she is a bit coughy and coldy and therefore thirsty. I am v thirsty at the mo so can empathise.
Really pleased it looks as if you will be able to have the birth where you want.

Ange/Eddas, Becky was sweet with the bump last night as well. She came over and gave it a cuddle and a kiss and said "goodnight baby". As you say, makes it all worthwhile!

WO, glad the AN session went well and hope the appt goes well too.

MIABT, glad you also had a good night. Makes such a huge difference doesn't it?!
The Picasso is silver! I have a silver Golf at the mo, and love silver cars.
Half term here, so no gym and swimming. Need to try and think what to do with B that isn't too energetic. I envisage soft play whilst I sit on my bum with a hot chocolate!!

Right, need to get on. Have a good day all, and will catch up later on. xx

muminabigtumi · 21/02/2007 08:36

SOSPL - I did the soft play and sat on my bum with a copy of heat and a hot chocolate and a Twix yesterday!!
Definatley the way forward if you are feeling a bit below par!

I like Silver too - my Meriva is Silver :-)
Still miss my blue mini with union jack roof though booo hoooooooooo!

Have a good day hun - just having a v lazy morning - working this afternoon.....eugh
x

liath · 21/02/2007 08:38

Had a good night's sleep here, too and feel so much better for it ! Sorry to here the DVD trick has worn off, though MIABT - fickle creatures, kids! Thought I had dd trained to have her morning milk in bed with me a while ago & it lasted 3 days.... She's at least been waking up later recently which doesn't half make a difference.

Feel less upset today - had a rant at my mum, then my middle sister (who has a very petite bump too) then poor DH so feel like I have thoroughly got it off my chest. I know fine well this baby is a perfectly OK size. I'm only 5'2" so am hardly going to be growing a giant baby (I hope). Dd was 6lb14 and that was quite big enough, thank you!

Have a "thrilling" day lined up with a trip to Satansbury's then am waiting for a John Lewis delivery (a Kenwood chef - I'm sure I shouldn't be as excited about this as I am ).

Happy Birthday Ellie - have a fab day!

flumppootle · 21/02/2007 09:10

Morning all

Sounds like a better nights sleep all round, long may it last

SOSPL have fun picking up your Picasso, ours was silver aswell. Bless Becky not liking being woken up, what a sensible little girl. I haven't even started toilet training ds (2.5) I wouldn't know where to start with a boy any tips would be a great help from any other mums of boys!

Welcome mmk!

Birth plan...er...haven't even thought about one yet, or packed any bags, or washed any baby clothes, or rebuilt the cot/pram etc
Although I am waiting for the rest of my travel system to arrive today after the delivery people lost half of it yesterday GRRRR. I was gutted last night because I wanted to play with it and dream cuddley fluffy baby thoughts. Fingers crossed tha the rest of it turns up today.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Ellie

Good luck with mw Weeonion, I have to see mine today aswell. I wonder if this cheeky chap has turned yet? I have no idea.

Bramshott · 21/02/2007 09:35

Hiya. Not a bad nights sleep here either so hurrah all round

Emmymummy - sympathy at nursery costs. At least Emily is at school already - imagine if you were paying that for 2!! My friend whose DS is at nursery in Godalming pays about £50 a day I think, so I guess that's just Surrey prices for you .

SOSPL & Birdiebump - full marks to you for embarking on the night training. DD is 4 already and I'm just putting it off and putting it off . . . Her pull-up is always wet in the morning though, so I'm definitely waiting a bit longer (thought the summer, with lots of hot sun to dry sheets!). My sleep is too important to me at the moment!!

1b3 - sorry if you've said this already and I've missed it, but what was the upshot of your house decision?

Have we heard from 8weeks since she was worried some of her hind-waters had gone?

I keep meaning to do a birth plan, but want to talk to the consultant first to check a couple of things. It's going to be very simple though: "I don't want continous monitoring unless really necessary"; "I want to try and manage with gas & air and not pethidine or an epidural"; "I do want the drug which speeds up the delivery of the placenta"; "I am happy for the baby to have Vitamin K"; "I don't especially want to go home after 6 hours - more like 12 maybe". Obviously all those plans are for a normal, uncomplicated, 37 week+ delivery and I'll be flexible if it doesn't happen like that.

33+3 - as pregnant as I got with DD so a day for celebration I think!! Balloon emoticon needed!!

hotlipsmummy · 21/02/2007 09:57

Morning ladies. Not posted for a while as not had much to say but have been lurking and smiling at many of the posts. You ladies are very good at lightening the mood

Not much to report here. Am also suffering from bad nights (although last night was the first night in ages I managed to sleep all night!). At least tomorrow is my last day at work - hurrah!! We are keeping DS in his current routine of nursery 3 days a week so 3 child free days for me, BLISS. Although I do have to spend some time sorting myself out for this one's arrival, so far done what feels like nothing!! So much to buy even though its second time round!!

As we are in London DS's nursery is expensive - about £60 per day for 8-6 ish, but its "day care" rather than "school". Also as its an independent nursery its alot cheaper than the chains (Teddies, Leapfrog etc) which are around £75!!! . Still DS is happy there, it keeps him busy and will keep some "normality" in his world when the baby comes. Will have to review it though once the full pay part of my mat leave runs out...

Right need to crack on with emptying my desk... hee hee. Hope all keeping well, not too knackered and sore etc.

Birdiebump · 21/02/2007 10:07

Good morning all. Also a fairly ok night's sleep for me - feeling v cheerful anyway!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELLIEK!

SOSPL - DH went up to bed at about midnight to find DS2 having a wee on the loo! By the time I came up 10 mins later he had gone back to sleep. And he was dry this morning, despite having to be woken up at 7.30am . Probably be wet again tomorrow.... BTW I never bother trying to limit what they drink (so that may have something to do with the wetting!!) but I think that they should learn to do it while drinking as much as they like IYSWIM...

Flump - Boys are easy - Just leave it as long as you can bear. Most people I know left night training until at least after they turn 3 and as you can see from this thread a lot do it even later. Like Bramshott - if they're not dry in the mornings sometimes anyway, chances are they're not ready!

NUTTY - was it you asking about birth plans? Check out Bramshott's in the last post - that's exactly the kind of simple straightforward thing that was recommended in the book I read - if it is too detailed etc then no one has time to read it!

The 10 day countdown to Mat Leave has begun!!!

muminabigtumi · 21/02/2007 10:12

Hi Laith - glad you are feeling better too - it helps to get stuff like that off your chest. To me it seems your damned either way when it comes to baby size...unless you are spot on perfect there always seem to be some comment or another....at 27 weeks I was just right but now at 31 weeks I was measuring 32 (I know only a week) yet was quizzed about what I was eating etc etc...it is so annoying. I think when you have had a simiar experience with other children then you can kind of think...."well you made a fuss last time and it was all ok" grrr - I feel your frustration love! Last time they told me I was having a MASSIVE baby - and I was scanned and talk of early induction etc and he was only 81b 9 oz at 11 days overdue (I really didn't want an induction!)

Flumpootle - hope the rest of your travel system arrives and you can have a play! I've just tried my old car seat from my M&P Pliko pramette on my newer and smaller Aria buggy and it all works - yey!!! So have just spent 20 mins trying to get the rain hood and covers off it to wash them - was like something out of the Krypton Factor!!!

Well I am going to finish my cup of tea and then get James dressed and get myself ready for work - got very little motivation this morning...was sitting like a zombie on the couch before watching the detrius that is Cbeebies.....could anyone else willingly shoot Grannie Murray from "Mee Too!" Bring back Balamory I say!!!! (apologies to first timers with no clue as to what I am on about - but mark my words in 12 months time you will!!!)

x

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 21/02/2007 10:20

Birdie, bless your ds2! What a good boy. Enjoy your count down to mat leave.

Hotlips, wow last day tomorrow! Enjoy.

I have got tons to do too, but am waiting until I am off as just can't fit everything in whilst working.

Becky is going to stick with her days as well, so 3.5 days of sorting time.

Someone was asking about 8.5 weeks. I think she is at her sisters this week so won't be around to post.

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 21/02/2007 10:23

MIABT, I am so glad it isn't just me. Becky is still in her pj's and we are watching ruddy CBeebies too. I just can't be arsed today. I don't mind Granny Murray! Balamory was great though. B had a bit of a crush on Archie!

I caught a bit of Gene Detectives this a.m whilst getting ready upstairs. Has anyone seen it? I was in floods of tears, and they hadn't even got to the point of reuniting the father and daughter!

charNbump · 21/02/2007 10:41

Happy Birthday "elliek", have a good day!

CaptainDippy · 21/02/2007 10:48

CaptainDippy · 21/02/2007 10:51

Well Done!! - On passing the exam Char!

We're off to the Farm this afternoon, one of my bf's can't make it to DD's Party, so we thought we'd have some premature fun today instead - The farm is about 30 mins away and I am driving the girls and I .... wish me luck ..... eeeeeek ......

maveta · 21/02/2007 11:36

Morning girls, congrats on the exam charnbump and good luck CD with the drive to the farm!

Boring day in the office here, nothing to say, nothing to do...uuuuurgh

CaptainDippy · 21/02/2007 11:56

Poor you in the office maveta - Is a lovely day here, so hoping it stays that way for imminent venture to aforesaid Farm!!!!!

Hoep everyone has lovely days whatever they end up doing ....

mammyjo · 21/02/2007 12:11

Morning all. Have been and done tesco shop this morning. Picked up maternity towels (well big blue always actually), witch hazel and breast pads. That is as organised as I get just now and only 5 weeks to go. Going to B+Q later to get paint for ds new bedroom and will look for a carpet in allied carpets which is next door too. You never know I might get stuff done before number 2 arrives!!

MIABT, I am with you on the granny murray issue. Hello honey pie! AAARGGGHHHH!

SOSPL, hope the car is lovely today. When I have a new car I just want to go out and drive anywhere just to go out in it!

Ange, dont ever feel bad for letting ds watch dvds. My ds has never watched so much tv as he does just lately. I do feel guilty but at the same time have very little energy to do much else with him. Did manage to do his calendar yesterday and have a painting session!

Charn, congrats on passing your exam. It must be a load of your mind.

CD, good luck with the drive to the farm. You will be fine, just takes a bit of confidence to venture that little bit further.

Liath, I am also 5 foot 2 and produced an 8lb 11oz ds for my first! Am a little concerned that this one may be even bigger!

liath · 21/02/2007 12:27

Oooch, Mammyjo - am very impressed . A friend just had one at 8lb13 and she's not a lot taller than me. Thank goodness DH has a pin head, hope this baby has inherited that trait (and not his very wide shoulders.....) !

mammyjo · 21/02/2007 12:48

Ds had a big head and very broad shoulders (still is broad for that matter)! I keep being told that the second is often bigger than the first but am hoping that is not the case for me!! Dont really want to know that TBH!

liath · 21/02/2007 12:50

My sister's second ds was smaller than her first.

mammyjo · 21/02/2007 13:07

Theres hope for me yet then!
