Wow can't believe I'm here 😁 I had a look, but couldn't see any other threads. Hopefully I won't be alone.

This will be our second baby. DS is 3.... 4 in january. EDD should be about 2nd August I think.

Hope I'm not alone for too long!

Congratulations, Alpacarabbit, and thanks. I'm honoured you came out of lurking to help me!

I do think the manager I spoke to wasn't sure, and she gave me the advice for consultant appointments which are under a different policy. It didn't sound right to me but I'm the kind of person that doesn't know what to say on the spot, so I went off to read policies on the computer. Our maternity policy seems to have a weaker version of the wording on the websites I've been looking at tonight. It says something like "reasonable time off to attend appointments" but doesn't mention travel time. My travel time is significant at the moment. Maternity Action's website is clear about paid time off for appointments including travel time.

I have a meeting with the head of service tomorrow as part of my induction. I need to tell her about the pregnancy in person and I need to be more assertive about the time off. After all, the appointments are the reason I decided to tell work this early in the first place.

Welcome scatterbrained and alpaca :)

Socially that sounds like an awful conversation. I would definitely ask HR and check out Alpaca's link. Hope you're ok Flowers

Letme sounds like your chat went a bit better, bet you're glad it out there now. Enjoy your day off tomorrow.

Largemelons · 28/11/2016 22:05

Hi scatter and alpaca!
I won't be telling a soul for a few weeks yet. If I get to 6 weeks I'll start to feel more positive.

oatybiscuits · 29/11/2016 07:25

Can I join please? Just got my bfp on Sunday, I've got a 2yo ds and had an early mc before him. I'm feeling extra freaked out because both times I've been pregnant previously I've known well before I could get a bfp, but I'm not feeling pregnant at all! I was so sure I wasn't pregnant I went out for a big fat steak and wine on Friday, oops! I guess I'm knackered but with a toddler who's never slept through that's a pretty normal state of affairs..

scatterbrainedlass · 29/11/2016 07:56

Hi oaty, I don't feel pregnant either so you're not the only one! It'll come soon enough. My son's never slept through either, still bf twice a night, so something's gotta give somewhere I guess.

whoateallthejaffacakes · 29/11/2016 08:09

hopping onboard. bfp on an early response type test last night, gp booked for fri. this will be preg/dc #2, age 29, had been on mini pill til end of oct, ovulated mid nov & got a bfp. still in shock it happened so quick but petrified something is going to go wrong as a result

Sparklyuggs · 29/11/2016 10:42

Jaffa I know it seems scary but there's no reason why anything should go wrong from happening quickly.

I had confirmation that I won't be seeing the midwife until early Jan so have booked a private early scan for 7 weeks 5 days, so tempting to do one earlier but I know that I might not see a hb yet and I'd get very stressed by it.

Anyone else finding it a bit lonely keeping it a secret? I don't know if it's because it's my first but I'd love to be able to chat to someone about how I feel and DH can't relate. We moved overseas 10 weeks ago and I have no friends here which doesn't help.

Those who already have DCs, I salute you, I feel so tired I can barely change the TV channel let alone look after a child!

whoateallthejaffacakes · 29/11/2016 12:04

i have a 2yr old & work just 24hrs per wk over 3days. tiredness hasn't hit yet like it did with first pregnancy, i could have slept standing up back then lol!
agree to the little lonely keeping secret but that's what these groups are for Smile .
off to get a digi but will wait for fmu 2mro so i can see how it dates Smile

Blink1982 · 29/11/2016 19:20

I've not had the tiredness yet either. Last time I was taking half days off work and sleeping in the afternoon -bliss

Not heard about my booking in app yet. I'm very very tempted to book an early scan.

LetMeHaveABloodyName · 29/11/2016 19:22

God I am so tired. DH is away with work until Saturday and I don't know how I am going to cope!
Is anybody trying to lose weight/maintain?
My booking in app is Monday I'm excited excited. & perks of telling work is that I can leave work early hurrah!

oatybiscuits · 29/11/2016 20:53

Phew scatter sometimes I feel like he's the only one! Did you say yours had a milk allergy? Mine has grown out of his but I'm sure it's permanently affected his sleep. Feeling bloated, constipated and sore boobs today yippee!!
I'm also looking into an early scan, I had one at 8 weeks with ds which was massively reassuring; 3 months is a bloody long time to wait to know if all is ok!

ClaraLane · 29/11/2016 21:46

I'm tired mid afternoon but perk up again in the evening. I really want to go for a private scan for my own peace of mind but we can't get an appointment before Christmas that DH can attend with me because of work and then I should have my 12 week scan in the middle of January so I don't know if it's really worth it. Think we're telling parents weekend after next which will be nice.

I'm pretty sure I've got a UTI or kidney infection as my back is killing me (I tend to get kidney infections with no other symptoms) but I'm off to the doctors on Friday so trying to hold out until then. Cooked us paella for tea tonight and wasn't allowed to eat any chorizo until it was cooked which made me irrationally grumpy Grin

Largemelons · 29/11/2016 23:05

Hi! Tired here too. Had a training talk at work this morning which was so dull I could barely keep my eyes open.
The nausea is starting too, weirdly on a night time along with a hungry feeling!
Trying not to eat though as I always gain a bit too much in pregnancy leaving me with a hard job at the end.
I'm in the best shape I've been in years and I'm hoping not to lose it too much.
Disclaimer - I'll totally get huge again I'm just trying to convince myself otherwise. Grin

Largemelons · 29/11/2016 23:07

My DC are all school/uni (!) age thankfully! I do however have an 11 month gap between Dd4 and 5 so I remember the frustration clearly.

thisismee · 30/11/2016 10:48

Morning everyone!

Hope your all feeling ok. I'm still tired but not much else symptom wise.

So I've got dressed this morning and a big pot belly has suddenly appeared ! Confused not quite sure how I'm going to hide this bloat?!! Anyone having this problem?

I'm still undecided on private scan. My first pregnancy I had one at 8 weeks all was fine but I ended up having a MMC . With my DS I didn't have one, as I was too scared. I just waited it out to the 12 week one.

Mrskjneate · 30/11/2016 11:45

Sparklyuggs i feel you. I am around 4/5 weeks, so very early and am worried about miscarriage. Also, id love to be able to tell my family but we'll hold off until christmas when I'll be 7/8 weeks. Feeling extremely tired, slept 12 hours last night!

MrsG280516 · 30/11/2016 12:20

Hi everyone, hope you don't mind me joining. Got my early BFP (first pregnancy) today and EDD is 11th August but I'm only 12dpo so trying not to pin all my hopes on this one. Not telling family (if we can help it) until Christmas.

firsttimer12345 · 30/11/2016 12:47

Hope you don't mind me joining too, just had a BFP this morning with due date of 10th August!
Very nervous as this is 1st pregnancy.

whoateallthejaffacakes · 30/11/2016 17:05

think my due date will be 10th of aug too.
clear blue digi dates at 1-2wks, ovulated 16th, dtd 13th/14th/17th so guessing 17th is calculating the 1-2wks?

SociallyAcceptableCookie · 30/11/2016 17:14

Congrats and welcome MrsG and Firsttimer!

SociallyAcceptableCookie · 30/11/2016 17:19

Thisisme I'm so sorry about your mc. Flowers

We might have a private scan this time but we wouldn't tell any extra people afterwards. Dh has planned to be out of the country for work the very week that I reach 12 weeks so there's a chance he won't be there and in that case I think we'll definitely have a private one.

SociallyAcceptableCookie · 30/11/2016 17:20

Jaffa it's 40 weeks from the first day of your last period and that's revised at your first scan based on the size of the baby.

firsttimer12345 · 30/11/2016 17:30

I think we are going to try and get a private scan before Christmas. Partly because my in laws are big boozers and partly because there's a history of ectopic pregnancies in my family.

whoateallthejaffacakes · 30/11/2016 17:37

i dont want to waste my nhs 12wk scan by not being able to see much because my last period started 18th oct which was 8wks ago when opk showed i ovulated on 16th

SociallyAcceptableCookie · 30/11/2016 18:03

But Jaffa if it's too small to see anything they'll have to scan you again, surely? I had a nine week private scan which allowed us to hear a heartbeat and see there was actually a baby there, and a placenta and all that, but baby was too small to be seen clearly. A foetus that age has limbs and hands and fingers but it just looked like a bean because it was too small to focus on. They wouldn't have been able to take measurements from that scan, other than less accurate dating measurement.
