obviously both have good taste in names snugglebumnappies!

andyrobo237 · 21/02/2007 20:04

Evening all - glad to see more and more of the babies are being born - seems fairly even between boys and girls! I hope those that are overdue get their bundles of joy soon - it has been a week since Thomas was born and I can;t quite believe it! It dawned on me at the weekend that I now have two children not one - OMG!!!

DrJo · 21/02/2007 20:46

Congratulations Qsack hope you continue to recover well - And well done Bienchen in taking your exam - I don't think my pg brain could cope with that sort of effort at the moment

Having seen the MW this pm I seem to be making some progress but not as much as R&OM by the sound of it. MW tried to do another sweep and said the cx was no longer posterior and about 50% effaced, baby's head is 1/5 engaged but the OS is still closed - I'm not sure how encouraging all of that is at 40 +8 but it is futher than I managed with DS at 40 +14!

Stats update below - last week was definitely a busy one for labour wards round the country if we our lot are anything to go by

12yeargap · 21/02/2007 22:11

Was due on Tuesday, so a bit over, and I think I've had a show this evening... nervous.

suis · 22/02/2007 00:45

I have now posted a very long account of Alexander's arrival on birth announcements if anyone is interested / in need of an insomnia cure.

As you'll gather from that, things haven't been entirely straightforward for us. Having had an unplanned CS, which quickly became an infected wound (v v painful, I wanted to go back to the labour ward for more G&A everytime I had to move) we have then had trouble with LO rejecting my breast. He was getting so little milk that he was dehydrated and continuing to lose weight so the paedeatrician has us on expressed breast milk and formula top ups by bottle. So I am now expressing for what feels like most of the day and feeling quite heart broken at being neither able to give birth to my LO properly, or now to feed him properly. However, I'm not giving up on bfing. I have posted on the breastfeeding thread with all the details, and already had some v helpful replies, so I am hoping that we may be able to make progress yet.

suzi2 - I'm afraid both Kinross and Stirling are family names, FIL and my own Dad's middle names to be precise. Nothing so racy as getting up to things in Kinross (I suppose people do do these things there, but it's never had that effect on me.. just go to the market sometimes.) We did consider Angus as a name but Angus Kinross Stirling sounded too much like a set of directions .

OP posts:
MrsJohnCusack · 22/02/2007 01:07

congratulations everybody
and suis - you DID give birth properly! look how hard you are trying with the breastfeeding - you are doing your very best for him, of course you are. There are no prizes for perfect births. he's here safely and that's what matters....

BTW, will lay bets on me being last. Due tomorrow, will be induced March 5th if nothing happens.

SmudgeMum · 22/02/2007 09:48

Morning all. Sorry to hear things haven't worked out quite how you had planned but Suis, like MrsJC says, it is not anything that you have/are doing wrong. You sound like you're very determined to give BF the best chance and that's all you can do. You've been doing this for a week already which is great and you've been through such a lot. Give yourself a chance to recover too!
12yeargap - how exciting. Is anything else happening or are you resorting to the pineapple, long walks and tweaking nipples? MrsJC, you having an induction date of March sounds really strange. it just shows how near the end of Feb we are. I hope it all happens soon for everyone and then we can all get on the postnatal thread (if anyone has any time!) It's a really miserable day up here but I'm determined to get out. DS zonked out with no clothes on so I wrapped him in a blanket and have left him to sleep it off. I'd already got dressed or I might have joined him for a quick snooze!

MrsDaveCusack · 22/02/2007 10:00

am having loads of quite strong Braxton hicks (well I presume they are) tonight and loads of twinges. Baby is moving like crazy. Did anyone else's move a lot before they went into labour?

yes - I can't bear the thought of this being a March baby but it's definitely on the cards. Grrrr.....

CurrantBun · 22/02/2007 10:09

There's a real split on this thread now - those who've had their babies and those who haven't! Those of us due right at the end of the month are at a bit of a disadvantage seeing everyone else cross the line from pregnant to mummy and wondering when it'll be our turn.

Marmitemad, I've been having loads of discharge and mild period-like pains for a few days now too, but nothing else seems to be happening! I guess it's all going in the right direction though. I've also been getting masses of Braxton Hicks and the baby definitely feels even lower in my pelvis (has been 3/5 engaged for a few weeks now) so hopefully my midwife will be able to tell me more tomorrow. Am doing loads of walking - 2-3 miles a day - to see if that will help shift things along, and I think we're on for a curry at the weekend too! Trouble is I don't like the hot ones - I'm a tikka masala/korma girl so not sure how much use a curry will be!

Am trying not to be impatient as due date isn't officially until next week - and these are the last few days of freedom I'm going to have for quite some time so I'm trying to enjoy them!

Fingers crossed for all waiting to deliver, and congrats to all who have successfully done so! Suis, you're doing fantastically so please don't beat yourself up. Births don't always go as hoped for/planned and a 'successful' birth is surely the safe arrival of the little one regardless of how it finally happens. Concentrate on your own recovery too and hope the breastfeeding works out for you.

suzi2 · 22/02/2007 11:16

Currantbun - it must be hard being at the end of the month. Hope your little one doesn't keep you waiting.

MrsDaveCusack, DD was SUCH a wriggler when I went into labour. Basically all the movement was her burrowing down and getting engaged. THe MWs were totally surprised that she was even seen wriggling hard during contractions - very unusual apparently. She just had a lot of room and a LOT of waters to swim in lol. Hope things are happening for you.

Suis - of course you gave birth properly! baby blues have a lot to answer for. Currantbun is right that a successful birth is having a baby at the end of it! Good luck with the breastfeeding - I found the feeding forum a lifeline with DS (and this time too!) and the advice there is great. Stick with it - it really is worth it I promise.

Bienchen · 22/02/2007 15:16

Ladies - I am ready to be moved up the list .

Delivered Catherine Isabelle this morning at 11:26, homebirth with TENS and Gas and Air only (but when it came to pushing her out I nearly ran out of steam and was screaming the place down wanting drugs - sensibly refused by midwives...)

She's sleepy and has not fed yet, so I'll have something new to worry about...

Will post full birth story when I have had a bit more rest, spoken to more friends/relatives and had that glass of bubbly.

For those of you still waiting, sending you good labour vibes xxxx

peachygirl · 22/02/2007 16:08

Congratulations bienchen!!! Well done you!!

ja9 · 22/02/2007 16:13

congrats bienchen!!! fab fab. looking forward to hearing all the details....

DrJo · 22/02/2007 16:28

Bienchen - well done - Happy to move you up the stats list even tho we now have more 40wks + than under 40 wks left

And welcome to Catherine

bubblebell1 · 22/02/2007 16:28

congratulations

bubblebell1 · 22/02/2007 16:31

dont know what happened there.

wanted to say congratulations to beinchen, and to wish all you others that are still waiting the best of luck and hope it all happens sooner rather than later.

marmitemad · 22/02/2007 21:09

Well I am back from the hospital after having a surprise sweep which I wasn't prepared for at all (probably a good thing as BP was just about ok today!). Cervix was already very soft and 2cm dilated so now just waiting for some contractions .
Got a bit emotional unfortunately as I really wanted things to start naturally but am also feeling quite impatient about meeting LO now so decided to go ahead as sweeps are the best way of avoiding the more forceful methods of induction and they were pretty insistent about booking induction for next Thursday (although I can cancel this and opt for bi-daily monitoring).

forgottenfreetime · 22/02/2007 23:15

Congrats Bienchen, Little one really was waiting for you to take your exam eh? Hope the feeding goes well over the next day or so.

I've had a funny day today, I'd half given up thinking that today might be the day since I just haven't had any sense that the baby might arrive recently. But today had tummy ache on and off most of the day then had about 40 mins of intermittent pains with contractions around 7pm so didn't go to yoga but they have settled again. So, another day gone by. Hope all those waiting are at least waiting in relative comfort and anticipating tomorrows news!

forgottenfreetime · 22/02/2007 23:18

Oops also meant to say - encouraging news marmitemad, hope the sweep does the trick for you!

MrsDaveCusack · 22/02/2007 23:29

oh congratulations Bienchen!

I'm still here - last night's many contractions and niggles came to nothing. See you all in March....

MoosMa · 23/02/2007 10:44

For the stats, we've finally decided on a name (or rather DH has given in) and our LO is now called Tabetha Katy.

I haven't read back over all the posts I've missed but contragulations Bienchen!

hairycaterpillar · 23/02/2007 13:10

Congratulations Bienchen!

Moosma - thats a lovely name, my friends daughter is a Tabetha.

Ja9 really sorry to hear you're still feeling really sick and fed up. Hope Docs appoint went well. My dd was thrilled to see your ds at toddlers today (v cute!).

CurrantBun · 23/02/2007 16:12

Congrats Bienchen - well done! Sounds like a pretty good birth too.

Saw midwife this morning - am 39+4 today and all is still fine with BP etc. Baby still 3/5 engaged (has been for several weeks now) but midwife said they don't necessarily fully engage until labour actually starts and it's nothing to worry about. Am getting loads of Braxton Hicks - tummy tightened at least twice while she was trying to palpate - which is a good sign. I also said I've been getting a lot of discharge, quite mucus-y, which she thought could actually be my 'show'. I'd kind of thought a 'show' was a big glob of mucus all in one go, generally a bit bloody, but apparently the mucus plug can come away gradually over several days or even weeks. I've also been getting a few dull, period-like pains, although nothing painful or crampy yet. I'm booked in for another appointment next Friday and if nothing's happened she said she might do a sweep.

Hubby decided to go into work late and drive me to the appointment. On the way home - disaster! As we turned into our road the cra started making a dreadful noise and hubby lost all power from the steering. We also noticed fluid leaking from underneath. Fortunately we have AA Homestart so called them out and the power steering has completely died. AA were unable to repair it so took us (plus car) to the garage where we bought the car. We explained that we couldn't be without a car at the moment (!!) but they need a part for the car which unfortunately could take up to two weeks. All their courtesy cars are booked out until at least late next week, but they were really helpful and have organised a hire car (free of charge) - only downside now seems to be that there aren't any free until tomorrow morning, so we just have to hope that the baby doesn't decide to arrive tonight. DH is far more stressed about it than I am but hopefully we'll be OK until tomorrow. If worst comes to worst we'll just have to get a cab to the hospital!

DrJo · 23/02/2007 16:46

My sympathies ja9 and MrsJC - we seem to be having the same problems. Having no chance of getting the record for an on time delivery, latest delivery or fastest delivery my LO seems to be opting for the slowest labour record. I was up all night with contractions between 5 and 7 min apart and up to a minute in length but they petered out by 6.00am to 20 min apart and then stopped for an hour at 9.00am. Went to tne MW at midday (prearranged appointment) and she did another sweep and said I was fully effaced and 1cm dilated. So you are ahead of me Marmitemad even without contractions
Have had contractions on and off all afternoon varying between 15 and 5mins apart - so it may well be another sleepless night

Congratulations Bienchen!

Currantbun, it sounds as if you are nearly there. Your period type pains are probably the start of things kicking off. I'll be watching with interest...

Dr Jo, I bet you'll be posting a birth announcement in the next few days. Just hang on in there, I know how horrible it is right at the end, especially when labour takes several days to really establish itself.
