forgot to say she weighed 6lb 9oz

MrsJohnCusack · 01/03/2007 23:25

congratulations marmitemad!

I am still here too. have just been in to book induction for a week today. After joking that there's no way this baby would arrive on DH's birthday (March 11th) it's suddenly NO JOKE AT ALL

aaaarrrrggghhh

forgottenfreetime · 01/03/2007 23:47

Congratulations marmitemad. Hope the bf picks up soon.
Snugglebum I admire your energy for the show on Sun and all these playdates. I can get up the energy for an hour or two but then flake out for the rest of the day. DD sounds just like my DS - he never looks back to see where I am and is always wanting to play on the bigger childens equipment and getting them to help him out when he can't reach. So what's new in the world of real nappies then? I used Muslins, Bimbles and then MEOS very sucessfully and plan to again. Anything that wll make me change my mind?

There's still hope Mrs JC! LO may show up sooner! How far over will you be on the 8th then. I have an AN appt tomorrow and I'm trying to work out if they will offer me a a sweep ther and then or get me back early next week. I'll be 40+3 tomorrow. I think that they'll want to book induction for 40+10 i.e. next Fri 9th, but that seems a lot sooner than your appt?

MrsJohnCusack · 01/03/2007 23:55

hello FFT
am in NZ so it's actually the 2nd here - induction would be at 42 weeks exactly (on the 9th). originally they said 10/11 days over but as the baby seems well and my BP etc is all fine they're happy to leave me until then - thank goodness, as they kept muttering darkly about the size of the baby as my first was 9lbs 14oz at 40+4 and not letting me go too far over, but I am sooooo keen to avoid induction again if at all possible.

I had a 'successful' sweep 2 days ago, which hasn't done anything yet as far as I can see...I would have hoped they'd offer you one at your appointment tomorrow rather than waiting, seeing as it isn't a guaranteed induction method, just something else they can try along the way.

forgottenfreetime · 02/03/2007 00:01

Thanks for that, makes sense. Going to go to bed now and visualise being woken by strong contractions that lead to birth in less than 2 hours!

snugglebumnappies · 02/03/2007 09:54

Oh MrsJC, glad to see we aren't the only ones left!

FFT, well the MEO are a great nappy but have just taken stock of some lovely Baby BeeHinds Bamboo/Organic Cotton nappies, they are a birth to potty nappy with popper fastenings, two snap in boosters and come in the most gorgeous colours, have stashed a few away for DS2 already! Also love the Swaddlebees organic velour nappy, very soft and luxurious. I am in the very fortunate postion of having to test out all these nappies so there isn't the guilt of "well I already have enough nappies so shouldn't really buy any more!".

SmudgeMum · 02/03/2007 10:08

Morning you three (and anyone else who is lurking!) Just wanted to let you know that I'm still thinking of you and checking up on how things are going. Good luck with the sweeps, positive thinking and anything else to get your LO out into the world. FFT did you get a sweep?
Congratulations Marmitemad. Glad you got the birth you wanted but what a shame you didn't want to part with your placenta. I hadn't really heard of it much but you're the 3rd person who I 'know' who has had it this month. Good luck with the BF. We started off great guns with it but have hit a real rough patch now which we're struggling through.

forgottenfreetime · 02/03/2007 18:10

Visualisation is pants ! Did have pains in the night but as before they petered out and I went back to sleep. Didn't get my sweep, apparently it's too soon and the midwives aren't allowed to do it at this stage (40+3). They have booked it for next Fri (40+10) but that is cutting it a bit fine for me - my mum goes on holiday on the 13th March and we would like her around for the birth - both to help out with DS1 and emotionally so may ask if I can bring that forward to the middle of next week and then get induction on the 11th March (next Sat) if it fails. Still the likelihood is that i will go into labour spontaneously - baby is only 1/5 palpable now, been 2/5 for previous 2 weeks so definitely things are moving in the right direction! Phil and Teds arrived today and I have been quite excited about it. Mum tested it out whilst I was at AN appt and said it was good, much lighter and easier to push than current pushchair.

Is the swaddlebees a sized nappy snugglebum (I know I should just look this up on your website really shouldn't i?) I will probably get some more first nappies - they are much better fitting under clothes than the muslins, although the appeal of the muslins was the super fast drying time not even having to use the tumble dryer in winter. Thinking about it I know you are busy with the show hope it goes well and I will look at the website - don't post just cos I'm lazy! Good luck for a 'good night' (whatever that will mean to you)to all expectant and impatient ladies and to all those knackered from their los!

MrsJohnCusack · 02/03/2007 20:44

still here
and do you know this baby has been at least 2/5 engaged since 35 weeks? And yet I'm still here at 41+1. Is now so far down that the head feels like it's by my knees - and still NOTHING
have till Sunday night to get 'my' midwife. It's not going to happen.

MoosMa · 02/03/2007 21:58

Oh FFT I misread your post as visualisation in pants and wondered who you were picturing!

Good luck to you last few and hope to see you on the other side very very soon!

forgottenfreetime · 02/03/2007 23:32

The babies really would never be born then Moosma!

snugglebumnappies · 03/03/2007 07:14

FFT, not sure if you have looked but yes the Swaddlebees velour is sized. Did go out to a play centre yesterday but it was quite difficult, at a Wacky and the toddler area was taken over by a small group from a nursery with their nursery nurses and the big part was way too big for DD, she isn't scared and wants to go on the big stuff, she just couldn't manage the height of most things!

MrsJ, know what you mean, baby has been engaged for over two weeks now, can feel his head grating in my pelvis when I am pearched on the edge of my seat, can't sit down properly as it's agony! Hope your baby arrives before Sun so you can have your midwife, it makes a big difference I think.

DD starts her swimming lessons again today after a 2 week break, don't think the instructor will be expecting us there so he will be in for a shock! DS has a karate lesson this morning and I am just putting the finishing touches to stuff for the baby fair so it's going to be a busy day as usual!

CurrantBun · 03/03/2007 12:58

Maybe my 'trickle' on Monday was an advance warning, as waters broke on Tuesday 7am (and there was no doubt this time!), so I had to go along to the Day Assessment Maternity unit to be monitored for a while to check for any foetal distress, as contractions hadn't started. I'd felt fine the day before - a little restless and fed up at nothing happening on the due date, but slept well and was quite surprised to wake up to a trickle and then a bit of a gush! Luckily it happened at that time as otherwise hubby would have been on his way to work and I don't know what I'd have done. All fine at the hospital - there was a minor scary moment when they thought they had detected meconium in my water but decided it wasn't and sent me home to see if contractions started, with instructions to return at the same time the following day if they hadn't. Came home with hubby and started getting minor contractions around noon, so put the TENS machine on at about 1pm. By about 4pm contractions were coming about every 3-4 minutes but were still manageable (only using TENS on the lowest setting) so we rang the birth centre and they told us to come in.

On arrival we were booked in and shown to our room (complete with birthing pool) and I was palpated etc. by a midwife. About 30 minutes later I was asked for a urine sample - went off to the loo to discover pad soaked in meconium. Immediately I was told that I'd have to be transferred down to the labour ward as my care would now have to be medically managed. Was disappointed but reassured that although I'd have to be continuously monitored I could still stand and move about although in a more limited way.

Everything carried on as normal - no foetal distress, and hubby was helping me through the contractions by rubbing my lower back while I ramped up the TENS, which really helped. The worst part was that every time I had a contraction, the waters gushed out, so I either soaked a pad every few minutes or had to leak all over the floor. I had a bloody show as well so the waters were disgusting, full of meconium and blood. All very undignified (and uncomfortable too). At about 6:30pm a doctor came to see me and told me that he would like me to be examined vaginally at 7pm and if I was less than 3cm dilated, he wanted to put me on a drip and start speeding things up a bit. Hubby and I both resisted, since there was no sign of foetal distress and the contractions were getting stronger and closer together. It was agreed to reassess the situation after the examination. Was examined and told I was more than 4cm dilated BUT the midwife couldn't feel the baby's head. She was concerned that what she could actually feel was the bottom. The doctor was called back with a monitor and I was scanned - and immediately became an "undiagnosed breech". Was gutted as had been told from about week 33 that baby was cephalic and engaged. Doctor discussed options with us but felt that in the circumstances the only real possibility was a C-section for the safety of me and the baby.

So was prepped for theatre - felt really scared but knew there wasn't really any alternative. The worst part was getting the epidural in: because I'm very slight I apparently have a bony back with the vertebrae quite close together and it was difficult for the anaesthetist to find a space big enough. Trying to get the epidural in while I was still having strong contractions also didn't help! Eventually all was ready (even though I couldn't feel anything below the waist, above it I couldn't stop shaking and trembling) and baby Kit Thomas was finally born at 21:44 on 27/02/2007, weighing in at a whopping 8lb 4oz (well, whopping for me at 5'1" and less than 7 stone pre-pregnancy!)

Got home yesterday and Kit is beautiful. Hubby and I are both besotted with our wonderful little son. After a difficult start he is breastfeeding well and we are enjoying being a family. Am sore and tired but he's so worth it! Being such an active person normally I'm finding not being able to do much very frustrating - I can't lift anything and can't even move about very easily at the moment. Hopefully the bruising and swelling will start to improve soon as I'm not very good at sitting around being waited on hand and foot!

suis · 03/03/2007 17:55

Conrgratulations on Kit CB.

Sounds like you had a helluva time with him. Having had a similar emergency c-s (Large OP and deflex baby not for coming out of my 5ft 2 body either) I can sympathise with feeling gutted at not having the natural delivery you had planned, and how uncomfortable it is afterwards. Just remind yourself that it was the only sensible choice under the circumstances, and you did the best thing for your baby and yourself. I can also sympathise with the frustrations of not being allowed to do things afterwards. I am used to just getting on and doing things myself and not very good at asking other people to do them for me. Roll on 6 weeks and being allowed to drive again !

You're not totally on your own MrsJC... some of us are still keeping an eye on the stragglers. Fingers crossed that things happen in time for your MW.

OP posts:
forgottenfreetime · 03/03/2007 22:48

Still straggling here too, Mrs JC. Hows is your day begining? I guess if you're on MN nothing happened in the night and your best chance of the midwife you know is gone. Hard Luck. We've taken ds to the park today and had a lazy afternoon in front of the athletics on TV. Went out for pizza tonight which was nice. Last time for a while I guess. I find I am getting more and more lazy as this pg continues - I'm using it as an excuse not to clean, using more disposable nappies, using tumble dryer instead of pegging up washing, not cooking etc. You name it pg is an excuse not to do it! Hope I have the baby soon or its going to be expensive!

The swaddlebees look v cute snugglebum as do the bamboo nappies actually too. May think about a purchase soon. I've a few packs of dispposables to ease me into the first weeks but then hope to be washing again! Hope the show goes well and you're not too tired out by it. praps it will be the same for you as for Bienchen - once the shows over your psyche will let your body go into labour. I just need to discover what I'm waiting for and I'll be away!

forgottenfreetime · 03/03/2007 22:49

Sorry meant to say congrats to currant bun too, although not quite the experience you hope for, the best kind of result!

SmudgeMum · 04/03/2007 12:43

Congratulations Currant Bun, what a lovely name and what a good weight! Hope the show went well Snugglebumnappies. FFT I think pg is a great excuse for slowing down and you'll soon have the excuse of a new baby to carry on taking it easy (you need to take it easy so not just an excuse MrsJC you're doing a great job on the stats. Obviously you know that that means you'll have to be the last to deliver so that you can complete the job Sorry you won't get the MW you know. It won't be long before you're all on the 'other side'

andyrobo237 · 04/03/2007 17:36

Congrats currantbun - and forgottenfreetime and Mrs JC - we keep popping over here to see who is left - it can;t be long now before you come and join us on the post-natal thread - although the pace is much slower over there - probably due to constant feeding or us being too tired to even contemplate switching onthe pc!

snugglebumnappies · 04/03/2007 19:40

Hello everyone, no baby here yet, having some strong tightenings but it's pool cleaning day again so we are just rushing to do that, everything will prob stop as sooon as the pool is ready again!

Congrats CB, glad to hear you are both feeling better now.

Baby show was very slow, but have another very busy one booked for end of the month so hoping that will be better. Ended up buying another gorgeous sling for baby from a woman who makes her own, will post link later. Going to put my feet up noe before getting DS ready for school tomorrow.

forgottenfreetime · 04/03/2007 20:57

Hi no baby here yet although I did have a bit of a show this morning so all encouraging signs still. Lots more BH than normal today as well, so you never know. Thanks for all the good wishes smudge and andyrobo.
Hope the show being slow meant that at least you didn't get tired out snugglebum. I'm envious of your hired pool now. I blew my BPIAB up at 37 weeks and its been sitting on the dining room table ever since out of the way. I just want to get it filled and have a lovely wallow - the bath just isn't deep enough!
No new posts from Mrs JC I notice I wonder if..... Actually, I half hope not, I don't think I can do such a good job with the stats .
