Just back from hosp and consultant has booked me in for c-section on 14th Feb - wow that is only 13 days away! Got pre-op on the Monday - so will be interested to hear from Bluebell1 what they do then! My mum is now all giddy and twitery - obviously getting excited - whereas I am more laid back about the whole thing! She is currently painting the porch for all these people that will be coming to visit!!! I know she is trying to be helpful, but ffs I just wish she would go home!!! God help me by next week - I wil be ready to murder her!!!

She is now trying to plan my time for me - just leave me alone!!! But I can't say that can I - she would be first to visit at the hosp - but we have told her that dd is to be the first - ON HER OWN - and that means that DH will collect her from wherever she is - NOT her bringing her to the hosp! Rant over!

Got a mw appt next week - my last one hee hee and then that is it - it is all getting a bit real now!!!

Hi all, glad to have a shorter thread to scroll for leaving messages!

Mrs J I second sallyn, the hospital will just be being 'on the safe side'. I have had 3 growth scans this pg - not because of any unusual measurements with this baby but because my first baby was small for dates. Ironically with that pg I did have an extra scan at 34weeks which said he was within normal limits and he was born 2 weeks later so either he stopped growing completely or the scan was inaccurate. Apparently at this stage the scans can be a pound out either way. Its apparently very difficult for them to get a good view of baby from all angles due to the lack of space, in order to do their measuring accurately. My son's caught up now but again after he was born people were scrutinising his chart as he just about stayed within the line for the 1st percentile (meaning only 1 in 100 babies would be smaller than he was). It's just hard that you don't feel that you have been dealt with sympathetically.

V sympathetic to ja with D+V - tummy bugs in pg are so vile. And to Tommy - looking after those three you'll be exhausted by now I should expect. I'm not feeling too bad at the mo. DSs 2nd birthday tomorrow so need to shop for a cake today. Definitely can't be making them - I'm a convenience mum and he'll never know the difference! By the way what do you all think of these ads at the side for Bransons blood bank? A bit dracula ish? I've been quite interested in the concept but the cost has put me off investigating further. Anyway now having home birth I presume its not possible and I wasn't sure if it was a bit cryogenicsish or something that might actually be useful in the future. I feel a bit uneasy - if it really is a good idea then not having this available to all (via govt funding) is kind of a false economy - the cost of longer less effective ttment presumably being more than the cost of this storgae and ttment if you get sick.

thanks! they are still concerned about the blood flow though, but 2 weeks ago had her 4 weeks behind etc etc. But now say shes on target, confusin in a very confusing time lol
I have had a good cry and chat to dh now and feel a lot better! bless him. hes a star.

Thanks so sorry about my rant I feel a bit of a plumb now.

Hi everyone
Well we are back from the hospital and the doctor although very nice and obviously experienced in these things could not shift the baby. Her bottom is well and truly engaged in my pelvis which is small so doesn't help.
So... I've been booked into have a C -section on the 15th Feb.
Strangely this has meant the arrangements with my parents, my brother and the respite care has all worked out well. They will arrive on the monday as I hopefully come out of the hospital. We are going to book them into a travellodge for the nights to give us all a bit of space.

mrs j cant u call back and ask for someone to explain things to you? i do think that everything will be fine tho they just have to cover their backs and if they said things are ok then thats good.

i had my pre op.

i was given my ranitidine and had bloods taken. i was told what happens when i arrive and what to bring with me, visiting times and rules and regulations. then had the actual surgery explained to me. risks and possible side effects to the epidural. it was a wierd experience i was expecting alot more. lol perhaps a physical exam. but it was ok i feel the same as before, nervous anxious and down rite scared.

No worries peachygirl! very exciting news for you!

Bubblebell, did think of doing that, but putting it in perspective and anger, frustration, hormones lol aside. she did say baby was fine and that the blood flow was still the same which was border line ok. still doing the kick chart and baby is moving really well.
gonna chill out, DH taking me for a meal tonight to celebrate that its feb lol and to cheer me up and well baby could be here any day now so might not get chance again for a while!

Thanks so much. really xxx

Mrs J. good to hear you picked up - nice thought from DH too

Peachy and Bubblebell, I had an elective CS with my DS because breech, and will be doing the same with this one - also in breech. I had a great experience. You might want to think through a couple of things - ie we asked as sooon as we went in for DH to look for himself what the sex is, and tell me, which was lovely: and he cut the cord, and dressed the baby with the mw. they seemed to show the baby to me very quickly then take him off to the side for what seemed like ages - this time I would ask for a proper cuddle, or at least a longer look.

musts for a cs - big pants that come right up the tum, so your scar is not chafed (owww) and I found having some sort of water spray a real godsend for the first day or two when you don't want to move. IME, it was great having a catheter in for a day or so - after what seemed like years getting up for a pee 6 times a night to just have a good rest...

good luck for tomorrow Bubble!

Am in shock - my friend gave birth last week with NO pain relief!!!!!! She took a hypno birth course & I have been sceptical all along. But it worked!!!!! She did not have even gas & air, all the midwives were amazed. I think I will try and get a few tips before it is too late. Even if it just helps me to manage the pain alongisde gas & air and maybe some pethidine. Can't believe it!

bubblebell - I had a bed bath the next day after my c-section - the nurse was very discrete and it felt great to feel clean again - it took two more days until I was fit and able to have a shower! Don't worry about it - it is not much after having being laid out on a table with your bump and bits below on show fora surgeon and all the other team in the room!!!

This LO is on the move at the moment - he is breech and keeps moving his head from side to side - all above the belly button, but now feels like he has dipped below that - maybe the homing instinct is kicking in!! I will try to be on all fours for the next half hour or so just to help hom along - it is quite a comfy position for me and takes the pressure off my back!

Bubblebell, the morning after my c-section I was taken by 2 midwives (one holding each arm) down the corridor to the bathroom, and they stood outside while I had a shower.

It was fantastic to feel clean again. I realise now that I was lucky to get that much staff time - it was the first time I had walked since the cs, so they waited to check I didn't keel over.

My cs is a week tomorrow. Can't believe that this time next week, I'll be eating a "last supper" with my parents and dh, and dh and I will head off to the hospital at 8am the next day. Somehow, I can't imagine I'll get much sleep the night before...

Hi everyone - I'd be ok to meet up and live fairly centrally in Northants.

MrsJ - had very similar experience to you today. As I am 42 I had a growth scan today. There was a consultant and registrar and it took them absolutely ages to determine measurements. In the end LO is back along the 50th centile, bang in line with previous scans.

However, they are concerned there is not much amniotic fluid and I now have to keep a daily kick chart and come back every week for half an hour electronic monitoring of baby's heart rate. Obstretician also wants me to come back on Tuesday to discuss "management of my delivery" and "possible induction". Well I really want a homebirth and now that LO is finally headdown again I don't really want management. There is plenty of movement from LO, bloodflow from placenta is good growth measurements are fine and estimated weight is something like 5lb 14 or 6 lb 2 - they could not quite agree but I am only 36 + 5, so I think that's quite acceptable.

I got a bit stressed out afterwards, was so elated that LO was no longer breech and feel that they really spoilt my day with too much interference.

Has anyone heard about not enough amniotic fluid and what causes this and what possible risks are associated with it?

Cadbury - don't think you are a bad Mum. We are all getting a bot close now and just want the rest of the family to do their bit. It's a bit hard when you have to remind them all the time. How old are your DC?

Sorry to hear some of you suffer from piles and threadworms - that's the last thing you need right now!!

Well I'm still here . Got as far as 4min apart and lasting 1 minute so called the midwife out. Nope nothing going on except the pain. Cervix still medium to firm and 2cm, 1cm dilated, which given the amount of pain I was in, is just pathetic.
We'll see how things progress overnight, I'm told it's simply pre-labour, don't know how long it'll last, but once I'm starting to efface I should dilate pretty fast apparently.
Feeling very jipped it has to said . Worms have gone though, yay!

Nothing else overnight, odd tiwnge today but nothing to talk about really. Just back in from a walk - hoping that may move things along.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you - mayb tonights your night!!
