Had my scan on Wednesday and it was all good!

We were in there for 50 minutes though! They couldn't see baby properly to do the NT test so I had to jump around everywhere, wiggle my hips, go for a wee, come back, do some more jumping. It was all rather strange! Grin

Apparently baby is very deep into my pelvis.

Happily it meant I got to spend more time watching baby wiggle though! :D

Tutuloves · 28/08/2016 14:20

Mummy yes it disappeared on Thursday at 13 + 2. Woke up one day and it just wasn't there. Most people I know it disappears just into the 2nd trimester.

Sugarbellesmum · 28/08/2016 15:19

mummy I'm 9 weeks too, and have had pms type back ache for the past two days! I have started doing a few gentle stretches, but I'm not sure if it's helping. I hope it eases for us soon!

Sugarbellesmum · 28/08/2016 15:20

tutu I'm glad to here it's temporary!

alphabook · 28/08/2016 17:18

I'm hoping to find out the sex at 16 weeks but it's mainly for reassurance. Unless I see a willy I'm going to take any gender predictions with a pinch of salt! I definitely won't be doing any big gender announcements, I haven't even done a pregnancy announcement!

I was really sick but it just went away overnight when I got to 11 weeks. Was still sick a couple of times that week (much better than several times a day though!) By 12 weeks I was only slightly nauseous, and by 13 weeks it had gone completely.

SuperDuperJezebel · 28/08/2016 17:42

If anyone has sent me their email address and not recieved an email inviting them to the facebook group, give me a shout! Apologies that its taken a while to send them to some of you, it will only let me add people with email addresses via the full site, if I do it on my phone it has to be someone im already friends with. Anyone else who wants to be added, let me know!

DH has decided he does want to do the private scan at 16 weeks now, and now after talking him into it, im unconvinced. The date he suggested id be 16+1, I wonder if thats too early. What if they cant see? What if its all just a massive waste of time? What if they find something wrong? I am such a worrier, I need to pull myself together really! BTW if anyone else is considering getting one, its £39 through Ultrasound Direct for the Just Gender (from 18 weeks) and £79 for Gender Plus (or something like that) from 16 weeks. Im not sure why the more expensive one is available earlier, different technology? They had lots of locations to choose from though, I think if we do it itll be the place that can do 4D ultrasounds.

Sully14 · 28/08/2016 17:48

I am 13 +5 with my second child but in between I suffered 3 early miscarriages. We have been told the chances of this pregnancy being unsuccessful is less than 1% but as you can imagine we are still very cautious. Can someone please advise if it's safe to use a hot water bottle? I really want to for the stretching pains and now it's getting close to winter but I obviously won't if there is any risk 🤔🤔

NameChange30 · 28/08/2016 17:52

Personally, I don't want to pay for any extra scans. I'm not feeling anxious, and if I do start to feel anxious, I'd prefer to deal with it in other (less expensive) ways! The way I see it, if something goes wrong a scan isn't going to prevent or change that. But I do realise that not everyone feels the same way. So if you can afford the scan and it makes you feel better, why not?

I am getting an extra (free) scan at 28 weeks because there's a research study I was able to sign up for, so I'm feeling lucky to get that.

I really agree NameChange, but im just so impatient to find out the gender already!

NameChange30 · 28/08/2016 17:59

Super LOL, fair enough! I guess I'd be impatient if I didn't already think it was a boy (based on the photographer pointing out his willy at the 12 week scan!)

I guess it wasn't too long ago that everyone had to wait until the birth to find out. We're so luck we get to find out at 20 weeks!

SuperDuperJezebel · 28/08/2016 18:54

Ive just booked the scan... eek! Im convinced it is a boy but id like to know for sure. I always thought I wanted a boy, but now i'd actually really like a girl too I think... so basically either!

Tutuloves · 28/08/2016 19:17

DH won't be convinced to have a 16 week scan for a few reasons so it'll be 20 week for us too. I've never had a 16 week before so would have liked one for a change but oh well. He's a very nice DH so I'm gonna let this one go. My DD is adamant she really wants a sister, I keep telling her she can't choose so hope she gets the idea that it's just chance.

alphabook · 28/08/2016 22:42

That's what I've booked Super, the £79 gender one from Ultrasound Direct. I think the cheaper gender one is a shorter appointment so less thorough, and possibly you don't get the 3D/4D that you get with the more expensive one (I can't remember though!)

How would you deal with the anxiety Name? I know that sounds arsey but I genuinely would like ideas/suggestions of how to cope! I suffer from anxiety normally and my anxiety around the 20 week scan is already building, I think I'll be at breaking point by the time of the scan with another 6.5 weeks to go!

I also feel like I didn't have the best 12 week scan experience, I know the only thing that matters is that the baby is ok and I'm so so grateful for that. But I didn't actually get to see the screen, didn't get to see the heartbeat or the baby moving. I know everything was OK because they told me, but I think it would have been better for my anxiety if I'd been able to see it for myself!

NameChange30 · 28/08/2016 22:51

alpha

No it doesn't sound arsey at all. I tend to depression more than anxiety but I think my coping techniques would be the same: yoga, mindfulness meditation, and if necessary, CBT. They have all helped my mental health massively in the past. I don't know whether they would work for everyone but I'd say they're definitely worth a try.

I'm sorry you didn't get to see the screen at your 12 week scan, why is that? I can understand why you're disappointed, I would have been. When's your next scan then (presumably the private one)?

cyclinggirl22 · 28/08/2016 22:56

I'm having a scan at 17+3 to find out the sex. It is the same price for a private sexing scan here as it is for the NHS sexing scan. Going to take whatever they say with a pinch of salt unless it is really clear. So excited to see baby again though

Cinnamal · 28/08/2016 23:03

Hi ladies, just popping on to say that Dorothy Perkins has 25% off online today, including maternity stuff..not sure how long it's on for, but I got myself some leggings and tops today so hopefully I'll have some comfortable things to wear soon!

alphabook · 28/08/2016 23:10

Normally breathing exercises, mindfulness and exercise help but I haven't been able to do much exercise (desperately hoping the tiredness gets better soon so I can go back to Pilates, this is the latest I've been able to stay up in ages although it's probably because I had about 10 hours sleep last night!) The other things were only short term fixes as I knew the source of my anxiety wasnt going away for another 6+ weeks. I'm trying to use CBT and remind myself of the reality that only a very small percentage will have bad news at the 20 week scan. But I feel like I can cope better knowing I only have 3 weeks to go.

I was just lying in a position where I couldn't see the screen. They spent ages poking me to get the baby to move into the right position, and I just felt so overwhelmed by the whole thing I didn't think to ask!

NameChange30 · 28/08/2016 23:18

alpha

I haven't done exercise for months either Sad But I'm starting pregnancy yoga next week and I think it will be a gentle way back in - really looking forward to it!

I did CBT with a therapist and (another time) did MBSR/MBCT course, as it helps me to have support from others - I'm not very self disciplined especially when I'm feeling depressed! Don't know if you're similar or prefer to do things independently?

Anyway hope you feel up to Pilates soon x

Morning all!

11+6 today and I seem to have relapsed! (Typing this from bed) Lots of nausea and tiredness, only managed a few bites of dinner last night, when I've been eating quite well for the last couple of weeks. I'm hoping it's a good sign, scan tomorrow so not long to find out!

Sorry alpha that you didn't get to see the screen. I'm another one who gets overwhelmed/overly anxious at scans and can't just relax and enjoy it. I always bombard OH with questions afterwards, like "Did you actually see it move?", because don't seem to be able to register anything! It always feels a bit like a dream!

DebieS · 29/08/2016 10:53

itsmagicyouknow I also have my scan tomorrow and I'm roughly 13weeks.
I'm another over anxious person too. Good luck for tomorrow. What time is your scan? Mine is 3pm so gotta wait ages

MissClarke86 · 29/08/2016 11:04

Mine is also tomorrow at 4pm. I'll be about 12+4. Hopefully good news all round ladies.

SuperDuperJezebel · 29/08/2016 11:35

I think my anxiety is probably quite low level in that I've been able to keep a hold of it, mostly, by absolutely refusing to allow myself to think about worst case scenarios. I fully appreciated though that that's not as easy for some.

Have just spent another £53 on maternity clothes at New Look but in my defence I got 5 things, including a jacket I've been eyeing up. Roll on payday though!

BridgetDoodle · 29/08/2016 12:45

Hi ladies! Haven't posted in some time but I have catching up on the latest news. I also seem to have regressed with my nausea and vomiting, brilliant all last week and then Friday hit and couldn't even keep water down and its continued since 😷 it actually got me so down because I was so happy to be over it and feeling normal again!
Scan tomorrow and I should be 13+1 going by my last scan so fingers crossed? Good luck to everyone else with scans coming up!

NameChange30 · 29/08/2016 13:02

Good luck to everyone having scans tomorrow - sounds like it's going to be a busy day on the thread!

A word about Folic Acid. I had a feeling we're not supposed to take it after the first trimester, so I asked MIL (a retired midwife). She said there's no need to take it after 10 weeks and there is in fact a small risk of taking too much, so it's best to stop taking it. Anyway, I don't want to worry anyone (I've been taking it daily and I'm 14 weeks today!) but just thought I'd share.
