That's funny namechange because my midwife told me my consultant wants me to take it the whole way through the pregnancy. I'm not at higher risk of spina bifida or anything else either. I will ask him directly tomorrow and get his opinion.
I would love to stop taking it, makes me feel ill on top of enough nausea as it is!

ItsMagicYouKnow · 29/08/2016 13:29

Hi Bridget, glad in a way that it's not just me. Not as bad as you - no vomiting - but the sea bands and homeopathy have come out again, was hoping to put them away for good! Are you taking anything for it?

Good luck to all the 30/08 ladies, mine is midday (French time). No-one today?

NameChange30 · 29/08/2016 13:37

Bridget Interesting! To be fair, DH and his family are French, and there are some differences when it comes to antenatal care (and medical care in general), so I wouldn't be surprised if the advice from MIL and my midwife here was different. I'm taking most of it with a pinch of salt anyway! But happy to stop the tablets now Smile

I'm taking pregnacare to get a range of vitamins so I can't really stop taking folic acid without stopping taking everything - and they're pricey so I don't want to chuck them away!

BridgetDoodle · 29/08/2016 13:44

Magic it is so tough isn't it. I haven't taken anything for it, had promised myself to try until 12 weeks without drugs. Then it settled but now it's back I'm thinking I might have to consider it now. I'll talk to my dr tomorrow. I just keep holding out in the hope it will go away!
Namechange I will let you know what he says but I am really hoping he'll say I can stop!!!

JoHowson · 29/08/2016 14:57

Just found you fellow mums to be.

OK if I join in the fun. I'm due on the 11th with my first bundle of joy!

ItsMagicYouKnow · 29/08/2016 15:06

NameChange You're absolutely right about advice in France being different! I went to the GP at 4 weeks, no mention of FA. The obs-gyn did ask me at 9 weeks, but luckily I'd been taking it since BFP more or less. Seems only women who've gone through IVF or with previous miscarriages get the recommendation. Same goes for Vit D, went to get some after BFP, the pharmacist asked why I would need it, and then gave me fish liver oil supplements! I've just given up and ordered everything from the UK...

ItsMagicYouKnow · 29/08/2016 15:08

Bridget kudos for getting this far, really hope you start feeling better again soon!

Welcome and congrats Jo! Have you had your scan?

JoHowson · 29/08/2016 15:20

Thanks for the welcome It's Magic!

Having my scan on Wednesday afternoon.

Lozza92 · 29/08/2016 15:48

Hello everyone
My ms finally seems to be getting better, got my scan at 11 on Wednesday, had a family BBQ yesterday, most of them already knew anyway and my cousin has given me 4 bin bags full of clothes that her 8 month old has out grown that I am now sorting out!

NameChange30 · 29/08/2016 16:35

Bridget Thanks, yes please do let us know what they say, will be interested to learn their rationale for taking it (or not taking it).

Jo Hello and welcome!

ItsMagic I'm curious to hear about your experience of ante natal care and childbirth in France. One of the biggest differences I've noticed so far (just from talking to French family and friends, since I live in the UK) is the way they calculate due dates. I gather they count from date of conception rather than date of LMP, so according to the French way of counting you'd be two weeks behind the English way. Which date have you used for this thread and spreadsheet - French or English?

OP posts:
ItsMagicYouKnow · 29/08/2016 16:56

Name They count full term as 41 weeks here, so 7 days after the UK EDD. I haven't put my deets on the spreadsheet yet, but I've been using my UK EDD (14 March) even though my French EDD will be 21 March (going by LMP and 9-week scan).

Actually, having said that, the French do confuse matters by using two dating methods, SA + SG. SA means pregnancy age going by LMP (so exactly the same as UK, 11+6 in my case) and SG means pregnancy going by supposed conception date (which would make me 9+6). I have no idea why they use SG, as it's so vague until you have a scan, and it just confuses everyone. For example, last time I went to the GP for nausea, she asked how far along I was, and when I said 7 weeks, at first she thought I meant 7 weeks from conception i.e. 9 weeks and that I would be over the nausea soon Confused

Last time, on the day I got to 41 weeks, I went to get checked by the MW as recommended. She did something similar to a stretch and sweep IMO because labour started 12 hours later and I had DS on 41+2. Had nothing happened, I would have gone in to be checked on 41+2, 41+4 and then induced on 41+5. Honestly, I quite like this way of counting, as so many women go over their EDD, and the checks once you get to 41 weeks are so regular here I didn't feel worried at all. I'm not sure how it works in the UK re: induction when you're overdue, I imagine it varies from hospital to hospital?

Hope that wasn't too confusing! It took me ages to work it out 1st time around, especially as I had a French and UK app on my phone showing different dates. Sticking to UK apps this time, as the French app just kept telling me to watch my weight - typical!

NameChange30 · 29/08/2016 17:02

ItsMagic
"the French app just kept telling me to watch my weight"
Oh dear, I would not like that!
So when you say that full term is 41 weeks in France, do you mean 41 weeks from LMP (ie the SA dating method, same as UK)?
And what do SA and SG stand for? (Sorry for all the questions! Just want to be able to understand where French F&F are coming from when I talk to them about it!)

OP posts:
ItsMagicYouKnow · 29/08/2016 17:07

Sorry Name read your post too quickly, you were right about the 2-week difference due to conception date, but this is only used (occasionally, and in my opinion, never officially) to date the pregnancy age, not calculate EDD. EDD here is LMP + 41 weeks, unless shown otherwise on a scan.

So basically, in France I'm 11+6 SA, or 9+6 SG, and my EDD is 21 March Grin

However, in conversation, no-one talks about weeks, let alone days here, just months, which I find incredibly frustrating because (a) I find it quite difficult to work out and (b) the beginning of 2 months (8/9 weeks) is a lot different to the end of 2 months (12 weeks)!

Does that make sense?

NameChange30 · 29/08/2016 17:09

Yes that all makes sense. Thanks so much for explaining! Feeling enlightened and more confident about holding my own in conversation with MIL and SIL Wink

OP posts:
ItsMagicYouKnow · 29/08/2016 17:12

Name I did not like it at all, because I hate the way everyone is obsessed with weight over here, and also because I'm actually underweight Grin

SA stands for "semaines d'aménorrhée", which literally means "weeks without menstrual bleeding" and is very difficult for me to say unfortunately, and SG stands for "semaines de grossesse" - "weeks of pregnancy".

ItsMagicYouKnow · 29/08/2016 17:16

Glad to share some insider knowledge Wink Don't expect any sympathy from the ILs if you get to 40 weeks and still haven't given birth!

Actually, I'm being quite vague this time, and just saying "end of March" to everyone rather than giving any dates. Might stop the onslaught of "have you given birth yet" texts on or around my EDD...

Dozygirl · 29/08/2016 19:47

I think they let u go to 14 days over here so to 42 weeks before they'll even start the induction which could take a few days. I was kind of grateful that I was induced a few days before my due date due to high bp so I didn't go over. I don't mind going a week over but 2 weeks would be a killer for me and dread what could happen to baby as in growth in that 2 weeks.

ItsMagicYouKnow · 29/08/2016 21:42

Duh - 12 weeks = 3 months. Told you I couldn't count! Blush

42 weeks does sound like a long time, but then I suppose it's only a couple of days longer than here.

DebieS · 29/08/2016 23:56

Scan tomorrow and I can't sleep for excitement/anxiety. It's like waiting for Santa Claus when I was younger.
Anyone else in the same boat or has a hammer to knock me out hahahahahaha

ItsMagicYouKnow · 30/08/2016 05:30

Yes Debie, got woken up by the bloody Roomba just before 5 and haven't had a wink of sleep since Envy

SecretScaryFriend · 30/08/2016 06:40

Good luck for all the scans today.
Flowers I hope you get a lovely wave from your little passengers.

neonrainbow · 30/08/2016 06:47

Good luck for your scans! Can't wait for my next one which will possibly be a private one at 16-17 weeks.

Butterpuff · 30/08/2016 06:47

Yep, struggling to sleep anyway, throw in a teething toddler and sleep becomes a lovely dream!

I was 40+15 when I had the toddler. I was induced at 42 weeks. I wasn't that worried about going over as I thought she would be late and wasn't that uncomfortable.

Good luck for all the scans hope the beans are not being camera shy!

SuperDuperJezebel · 30/08/2016 07:21

I don't have a toddler but still, sleep is a struggle!

My best friend was 40+17 when she finally gave birth, still vomiting (from morning sickness) even as they wheeled her into the delivery room! I really shouldn't complain about my nausea!
