Ooooh, I'm 26 + 6 today - 27 weeks tomorrow - It is flying by!!

muminabigtumi · 24/01/2007 10:46

Hi Pesha

Thats great news about your scan, really pleased for you! Re midwife...when you go see consultant does he do BP/urine test etc?
I would book in and see your midwife anyway for a 28 week check...no harm in it and you can discuss things with her and "keep her int he loop".

GMM - your travel cot sounds great - I got one of the big ones and used it as a play pen for James...until one day I filled it with balls to make a ball pool.....
Jasper thought it was a giant litter tray and peed in the bloody thing - so had to skip it!

BBCFK - not long now till your cuppa love! Hang in there!!!
Good job it's not my GTT test today - I just cn't stop bloody eating...it's cos I've been up since the crack of dawn!
SOSPL - some days I cope with the early starts and some days I don't... coping ok today - managed to get ironing and housework done so quick nip on here before I go and get me and the boy dressed. His nose is constanly streaming - it's disgusting but he is happy enough in himself so will dose him up with Calpol and he will go off to nursery as I cannot have time off and no one else to have him....plus he's not ill and they are all full of it at nursery anyway...

right SHOWER....

claricebean · 24/01/2007 10:47

Wow, it's taken me half of the Aristocats to catch up...

Love the names chat. Really like Arthur, Phoebe, Ruby Kate, Charlie, Noah, Isobelle (we have an Isabel).

Good news about the scan, Pesha. Hope you get good results on the GTT, 12W.

AngeG - sorry you're still suffering on the SPD front.

Flump at your school gate experience. Any news on when DH gets back?

GMM - cyber hugs. hope you're feeling better today.

Am enjoying all the bf / bottle chat. I found it REALLY hard to bf DD1. I stuck at it, but have to say that I didn't really enjoy it until she was 13 weeks old. . Up to 8 weeks, I actively disliked it, but stuck at it, mostly because I didn't want to spend future pregnancies worrying about whether I could do it again. Sigh. I booked a weekend at a health spa with my mum and sister fr when DD1 was 4 months old to celebrate giving up bf. Felt that by then I'd have done my bit. When the weekend came, I loved bf so much that I didn't want to give it up. So I spent the weekend expressing away! You can just never tell. With DD2 it was easy. Then with DS it was hard work to get going (think I'd forgotten all my old techniques LOL) but we got there in the end.

Well my P&T buggy has arrived today. . So am off to set it up. The kids are happy because they've got a huge box to play with. It's a boat apparently. Still v spotty here but no itching now. At least I am getting some lovely lie ins this week. This morning I got up at 9am - much better than doing the school run.

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 24/01/2007 11:03

Pesha, great news about the scan. I bet you are relieved.

BBCK hope you are coping ok with the GTT.

MIABT, lol at Jasper mistaking the travel cot for a litter tray! Fabulous! They are funny old things. I wonder though if it was just a 2 fingers to it iyswim. I remember my nephew stayed when he was younger, before we had Becky, and Tippy who was very disgruntled by having a child in the house, peed all over the duvet Tom had used. That was binned too!

Feel v tired today and have that sharp pain again which I am sure is just baby being stuck a bit low down. Hey ho.

Right, off to Gym Tots in a mo so will be back later on.

mammyjo · 24/01/2007 11:09

Hi all. Some belated messages as I have only just caught up.

SOSPL, hope ds is a bit better today. Its so horrible for them and us when they are ill isnt it.

Geordie, hope you are feeling a bit brighter today. Look after yourself. BTW, I love the name Charlie Chambers, it is so cute! Dh likes Callum for a boy with the middle name of Andrew (dh's middle name). Cant decide whether I like it or not. Also like someones suggestion of Erin, lovely name. I like Ffion, and thats all I have. Best hope I dont change my mind or I will be stuffed!!

MIABT, you have reminded me of the noise that the Avent bottles make! Had completely forgotten that but they did kind of squeal when ds was slurping out of them!!

Pesha, so pleased your scan was good. Must be such a weight off your mind.

Sorry to anyone I have overlooked. I have a midwife appointment today. Not really due, but am not right. Blood pressure was up in work yesterday (I work in a hospital so had one of the girls check it for me). I also had protein in my wee and woke up with a headache this morning so am working myself up. Its probably nothing but at least I can see the midwife today. Just dont feel quite right, bit light headed at times but nothing I can really put my finger on IYKWIM.

On the nipple subject. If you think they look big now wait until you see them being milked in the breast pump!! Mine were massive and dh's face was an absolute picture when he saw the size of them. Apologies if TMI, but I found it really funny at the time!

CaptainDippy · 24/01/2007 11:10

Oh yes, forgot about all the BF chat that has been going on ....

I was such a BF snob when I had DD1 - I found BF soooo easy from the beginning and looking back on it, DD1 was quite a happy, settled, contented baby who found suckling etc easy - So I BF her pretty muich exclusively for 8/9 months, then supplemented her with formula (which took ages to get her used to) I then combined fed her til she was a year - Although from about 6m she hardly took any milk cos she liked her food so much and didn't seem to need it.

DD2 was a totally different story - and soon put an end to my snobbery!! As she was early and v.small, she found feeding really hard. She had a tiny mouth and a v.weak suck. She would latch on, suck a couple of times and come off screaming. It was truly awful. We continued like this for 2/3 months and then I decided to formula feed her - Unfortunately, she didn't much like expressed milk / formula in a bottle either. I pretty much cup fed her til she was 6 months and after that she was on solids and hardly had any milk at all. She has only just recently started eating a meal without going mad and screaming etc (She is 21m!!!!) ; but she still has her moments, but we are used to it now.

Sorry if that is a bit of a horror story; but I am really hoping to BF successfully this time; but having had all the problems with DD2 has taught me that if I can't BF, not to beat myself up about it. BF is really hard sometimes and you are not a failure for not being able to do it - You need to just relax and do what is best for you and baby.... and make use of your local BF Counsellors if you need to!

I introduced bottles of expressed BF milk v.early on with my two and after a week or so, they could take either (breast or bottle) ok - (Well, DD1 was absolutely fine and DD2 was a pickle either way, so what did it matter!!?)

CaptainDippy · 24/01/2007 11:13

Awwww, mammyjo - Soooo sorry to hear that you are feeling "not right" - Hope you can get an appt ok and get checked out - better to be safe than sorry - Hoping it is something that can be sorted fairly promptly. Do you think your iron is low? Or you have a UTI? Or you are just bloody knackered and need a proper break? Or all three!!!? [hugs]]

PS I used a Medela Electric Pump for expressing - fabulous!

mammyjo · 24/01/2007 11:16

Quite possibly all three. One of the doctors I work with told me she thought I needed iron tabs as I was looking pale! Had a blood test only two weeks ago with the midwife though and I assume my levels must be ok as no-one has told me otherwise. Then again, I suppose things can change within two weeks!!

CD, hope you have a relaxed day today. Its a nightmare when you expect to be child free for a few hours with playgroup or something and then its taken away. I know the feeling and I only have one ds!

CaptainDippy · 24/01/2007 11:25

Thank you mammyjo - It is good to know I am not alone - Well DD2 has stayed asleep this long, which is a definite blessing!

Instead of taking iron tabs, would recommend Flouridix, which is a liquid iron supplement - available in most health food type shops - It doesn't give you horrendeous constipation!!!!!

Do let us know how the appt goes sweetie .....

mammyjo · 24/01/2007 11:35

Got an appointment for 1pm so not too long to wait. I am probably making myself feel worse by getting stressed about it TBH! Maybe will try that liquid iron stuff, could call in shops after midwife appointment. Anything is worth a try!! I am sure lack of sleep is not helping though but I just cant seem to get comfy just now.

Good for your dd to still be asleep, long may it last!!!

geordiemacminx · 24/01/2007 11:49

Even better than Flouridix is spatone? Its little sachets of iron water that you add to fruit juice, so you cant taste it... and it doesnt give you constipation either..

CaptainDippy · 24/01/2007 11:55

Spatone is also good - just a bit more expensive, iykwim!!? Would recommend Spatone or Flouridix to anyone needing to take iron supplements.

geordiemacminx · 24/01/2007 12:04

Sorry CD, didnt mean to critisise your receommendation there.... Its just I took spa tone when I had really bad morning sickness and the taste of anything remotely medicine like made me heave!!

Agree it is exprnsive mind you... all this stuff should be free.. a mate of mine at work announced that it must be great being pregnant as you get free prescriptions and dentist care... I had to point out to her that firstly there are very few medicines that are prescription only that the doctor will give you whilst pregnant... and that you need free dentist care as your teeth are usually shot by the time you give birth due to frequency of being sick... silly mare!!

geordiemacminx · 24/01/2007 12:07

my spelling sucks today!!!

CaptainDippy · 24/01/2007 12:08

No offence taken geordie!

Tili · 24/01/2007 12:11

hello.
wanted to pop in and say congrats on scans.and good luck to those still waiting on scans and tests.
DD is still off pre-school but will be back in on monday dont want to risk putting her in too soon incase she picks something else up straight away.

Its my birthday tomorrow and I just cant be arsed!! it just feels kind of insignificant as there is getting sorted for the baby still to do.Its probably me just getting into a blind panic over the uncontrolable!!
To be honest there isnt much we need to get but its the funds that are worrying me more as the most expensive thing - the pram we are yet to get.

There was talk about prmary schools earlier in the thread. Beth turned 4 at the end of sept so she missed out on starting last year so when she starts this year she will be almost 5 and one of the oldest. I personally think she would have been better starting before this.
Beth is one of those kids who needs new challenges she seems to be getting bored with preschool although she is quite happy to go and has fun while she is there, she keeps asking when shes going to "big" school.
Also as the preschool have had a new intake compared to her they are quite babyish which I think frustrates her needless to say she is very friendly with them all and mothers them to death!! but she really does need to move on I think.

wow this has turned into a bit of an epic!! id better go and feed bethany now as she is shouting that her tummy has the rumblies!! lol

take care all xx

CaptainDippy · 24/01/2007 12:15

Hi Tili! LOL @ "tummy rumblies"

I'm not even thinking about schools yet - DD1 is 3 and DD2 is 21m - Stop it, you are all scaring me!!

flumppootle · 24/01/2007 12:20

Morning all

So pleased that all was well in your scan yesterday Pesha - what a weight of your mind Any news from Liath?

Test must be over now 12 weeks, have you had huge cuppa and as much as you eat yet???? Hope so.

Miabt, what a nightmare bedtime you had. I was very grateful that all of mine went down with no issues last night.

Hope that they get to the bottom of you not feeling right Mammyjo, sounds like you need some rest and TLC - perhaps Bigonion about should call?

How was mw WO? Are you all under snow up there?

Clarice- lol at the kids prefering the box to the thing inside it!!!! We have had a few christmas days like that

Cant remeber anything else at the mo sorry to those that I have missed.

Well feeling like a lucky girl here. Dh managed to fly home last night and was back by 9pm. The dcs also slept straight through the night I am sure that they knew that he was here
DD2 is also much better today and squabbling with her sibblings, its like music to my ears. I was quite worried about her.
My jeans have just arrived from Next - YEAH. Worth a look CD, they do them in petitie and were only £20.
I chuckled at your dd asking for a man for her birthday . I do wonder what goes on in their pretty little heads

claricebean · 24/01/2007 12:46

Glad dh is back safely, Flump. Hugs to all who have sick DC at home. Mammyjo, hope you're appt goes ok and it's nothing too serious.

My new Phil & Teds is lovely!!! Have tried out all new permutations. Sadly, DS doesn't understand why we can't actually go out in it. He keeps saying: door, out. Every time I try him in a new postion.

I'm 30 weeks today!!! So excited.

flumppootle · 24/01/2007 12:52

Thanks Clarice

How exciting unpacking a new pram! They do look fab those P&ts. Shame that you cant road test it yet.
Is your dd better yet?

maveta · 24/01/2007 13:09

Had such a busy morning back at work I've only managed to get back in now.

Pesha great news re. scan, glad it has put your mind at rest.

Good luck with antenatal appts everyone/weeing in bottles etc etc. I still have mw appts every 4 weeks, don't know when they go to every 2 but it will be a pain. Last one was late and next one is on time so only been 3 weeks between and feels too soon! Am so hoping I've put hardly any weight on so I can tell her where to shove it! Mind you, I've just eaten a pound (!) of lasagne (I know because they weight it at the deli but it just looks like a generous slice) so I don't know how much chance there is of that!

Had to laugh at 'how do you know if you have big nipples?'!! You just DO!! If you've never thought about it, you most likely don't! My boobs are only a B cup but always had big nipples. I used to be quite self conscious but hey, what can you do? I personally know from having seen lots of boobs i.e. my sisters, my friends, page 3, and I know what 'normal' is. So glad a couple of others have 'outed' themselves now I don't feel quite so alone!

Yvie - sorry you can't go to your Grandad's funeral, hope you can have your own little ceremony somewhere on your own just so you feel you've sent him off x

There's lots more I've missed but have to go back to reading again or it will have trebled again!

12weeksandcounting · 24/01/2007 13:13

Afternoon

Had second GTT - all fine - sent off the bloods - have had huge bowl of spaghetti and whole tin of rice pudding - just about to pop kettle on! Have had productive morning keeping mind off food - wiped all the walls in the halls (fingerprints etc), all washing done, dishwasher loaded, boys rooms tidy...ds2 currently cutting out pics from a magazine and sticking them to piece of paper - so all is well! Spoke too soon - glue all over table!

I keep looking at the mess in my nursery - everything just piled up in middle - but can't do anything til painted - and may be after half term before dh gets round to it

My sister was coming to visit at half term - but hers is different to mine - so I am going up there (Manchester) - wasn't going to travel due to spd but thought would be easier than having to run around after her two, clean, cook etc here - she can do it instead! She has MORE baby stuff for me and I have maternity and baby stuff that needs to go back to her - so all that is piled up too! I just want it to look perfect not messy! I need to be patient!

Mammyjo - at my midwife appointment this morning she thought I looked a bit pale - have done fbc anyway so should hear back soon if I am anaemic - also there have been times over the last few weeks that I feel like I have a temperature (38 deg) and headcahe - but no other symptoms - like I'm fighting someting off - paranoid that body is fighting baby but probably just viral/colds etc

Can't remember much else...

hotlipsmummy · 24/01/2007 13:13

Have to agree with Clarice bean - am LOVING the new p&t buggy. And am using it as the Pramette is now on ebay so need to keep it clean etc.

DS does have the Pox! So far not so bad - a few spots and not reached the itchy stage yet. He's fine in himself but slightly more prone to mega-tantrums... sigh... But he can't go to nursery (ridiculous as that's where he got it from so a bit late now!!) and I've had to take unpaid leave to be at home. I could have taken holiday but then that would mean my mat leave starting earlier and I want the 12 months to run from as late as possible so I don't have to go back until April 08!

LOL at the "anti-christ" bedtime routine - have had a few of those in my time!!!

Anyway off to have some lunch and put my feet up before the afternoon shift!!

maveta · 24/01/2007 13:13

Captain Dippy - sorry to hear you're still a bit down, hope it all gets back on an even keel soon hun x

By the way Yvie, Noa is a girls' name in Catalan and there is no apostrophe so you could try and get it past the censors again and see if they go for it??

Was also thinking last night, it's so funny how our chat changes the closer we get. A couple of months ago and no one would have been talking about bottles and teats and now it's the hot topic. Soon it'll be all witch hazel and arnica!

maveta · 24/01/2007 13:24

hotlipsmummy - sorry the dreaded pox arrived at your house, or are you happy it's out the way before the baby comes?

claricebean - happy 30 weeks! I am counting down to that milestone but am only 27 weeks today so a few more to count off..

mammyjo - hope you feel better. Here I was just given iron supplements from 20 weeks without them doing any tests or anything, I was quite surprised to read that in the UK they don't do it as routine. How strange. I take the liquid form, ferplex i think, and have had no problems with it.

12 weeks - well done on getting your test over with, hope the results come back good. Here you aren't allowed to leave the clinic even for the 3 hour one, you have to just sit there and wait. Another thing I was dreading about having it done.

All caught up - yay! what a task that was! I am feeling pretty yuck today, started getting a scratchy throat yesterday and have a horrible annoying cough today, one of those really ineffective ones that just hurts but unfortunately not quite bad enough to warrant a day off .
