Can bigonion come to my rescue and make a delicious tea out of some pasta, and a less than fresh courgette and some eggs....which is about all I've got in till the shop comes tomorrow!!!

cazboldy · 22/01/2007 18:00

I am on the norfolk/suffolk border near beccles EllieK

Katy44 · 22/01/2007 18:01

MIABT, no he can't, he's here giving me a foot massage and feeding me after eights.
He has the number of a whippet he subcontracts to if you're interested? Otherwise I'll just send him over when he's done.

Katy44 · 22/01/2007 18:12

Right he's on his way with a copy of 101 Quick Pasta Recipes and some after eights.

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 22/01/2007 18:17

WO, pmsl at "ability to do that, but not pick up something off the floor"! We have selective movement, like men have selective hearing!

Katy, I wouldn't mind the loan of the whippet if BigOnion could get in touch with him. Make sure he wraps up well though in this icy weather!

Evening all,
Weeonion - I bought an amby nest just last week DH not too happy, but it was only £75 from the local paper, I thought it was a bargain. As for gifts, tampons (how useful).
When pregnant with DD I made a point of mentioning that a friend has been bought a really lovely eternity ring, as I got nothing when I had DS thought a little hint might push him towards a jewellers. Next day he handed me a parcel, and said how thoughtful he'd been and got the message from my hint, he'd bought me a rubber ring (his hearing maternity ring) with DS I spent the last 3 weeks sitting on one as it felt like I was sitting on a coconut with his head so low down, DH thought I needed another but was being shy... great

Bumbos- DD still sits in hers she's 3, and gets wedged in, but we found it useful when feeding when she was little.

CD - Don't know how you manage an hour walking my ankles are like tree trunks at the moment.

Liath - When I make those sort of requests I'm told not to be so silly, but when he feels like it I have to be grateful (his words)

YvieE - sorry to here your sad news, hugs

Maveta - let my cat in 'cos of yucky weather he usually lives in a barn, felt sorry for him, repaid with 2 fur yaks and flea bites on my bump, Yours sound like they're treated like little kings and should be more grateful.

On the names front we're stuck DH has mentioned Chuck and Chip (he works with Americans) and Finbar (reminds me of VIZ)
all the nice names I come up with he says are too normal/woosy(sp).

Nappies - I had this great eco idea of making my own reusable nappies and have found a pattern on one of the other threads has anyone else done/tried this, am I mad???

EllieK · 22/01/2007 18:35

caz my nan is in lowestoft, sounds like an excellent summer post-natal meet-up could be in the planning!

OP posts:
EllieK · 22/01/2007 18:38

yes hensden, you are completely mad! but very commendable too

OP posts:
cazboldy · 22/01/2007 18:54

yes Ellie sounds great!
Have been thinking about using re-usable nappies this time, but as I haven't used them on the other 4, don't know if it will be worth it. What do you all reckon?

EllieK · 22/01/2007 19:11

caz, depending on which side of the border you are, Suffolk County Couuncil do an incentive scheme for re-useable nappies, at the moment it's £30. I found a really good report from a mum who trialed them with her second child real nappies
I found this on Mid Suffolk's website but you can get the £30 if you live anywhere in Suffolk.

Also makes an interesting read for anyone considering using them x

OP posts:
EllieK · 22/01/2007 19:16

it was written a while ago (2003) and by someone who used a nappy laundry service, but still gives a good overview, and shows that it is worth doing x

eca · 22/01/2007 19:31

hey Ellie

I'm trecking over to Bury St Ed's for my antenatal classes! I'm up in Norfolk with lots of retired people!

I'm afraid to admit i'm not going to attempt real nappies, going to go for eco/degradable disposables. Not as environmentally friendly, but better than regular disposables.

EllieK · 22/01/2007 19:40

whereabouts in Norfolk are you eca?
do you work?

OP posts:
weeonion · 22/01/2007 19:42

hensden - i would be interested in making my own nappies - where did you find teh pattern??

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 22/01/2007 19:58

Making nappies!! Very impressive. Where the hell do you find the time to do that!!

Hensden, lol at your cat fur yakking - not because he yakked, but just thought how typical is that!?

Feel a bit grumpy tonight. After having such a chilled weekend, feel knackered and run down again. Hey ho.

Right, need to dish out dinner, so will be back later on.

eca · 22/01/2007 20:05

am up in west norfolk, near Kings Lynn. Am working p/t at the mo and p/t student doing PhD 9although not done much work since being preg and poorly!

sol - i'm feeling grumpy and crappy too. Think i've got a cold coming on.

MAKING YOUR OWN NAPPIES!!! You super-mummies you! Very impressed. bet it would be much cheaper than buying.

CaptainDippy · 22/01/2007 20:40

I am knackered and DD1 Pre-School has been cancelled tomorrow. Great.

Ooooooh, I neverk new about the free upgrade to 1st Class WaspElly - Thank you for letting me know - I'll see what I can do Sat .... g[rin]

about twins born at 23 weeks MIABT - Sorry to be blunt, but I don't think they have any chance of survival at all. Thinking of and praying for their poor mummy and daddy and family. Please update us when you know more ....

Think I really ought to go to bed now, so tired ......

Cheers for the new thread btw - LOL @ title!

WestCountryLass · 22/01/2007 20:43

I hope it is a cold eca and not the dreaded lurgey I have succumbed to, make sure you are getting plenty of vit c and taking your pregnancy vits

weeonion · 22/01/2007 20:44

yeah eca - i might say that but no doubt fast forward to labour day and i am there cursing i ever thought of it with a pile of cut up terry cloth, a snarled up sewing machine and a mouth full of pins between contractions.
hensden - what is yr dp geting you this time as a gift??

sopl and eca - sorry u feel down and blue tonight xoxo

CaptainDippy · 22/01/2007 20:47

Just thinking, this is my third and I still haven't had an jewellry / eternity rings - Should I be making hints, you think??

muminabigtumi · 22/01/2007 20:48

Hi CD - I know - I feel the same in my heart about the twins...but you just never know I suppose. Such a lot of heartache for the family to go through no matter what. Sorry you are feeling blue and poo to no preschool tomorrow
SOSPL - hope you are ok...I think it's natural after chilling out and relaxing to get a bit low when it's back to the grind...I know I was like that last week after my weekend away.
Katy44 - the whippet would have been very welcome - I ended up having boring omellete and beans...
Hensden and Weeonion - re making you r own nappies.....OMG! Very commendable....Can I ask is anyone else having a total crisis of confidence??

I have spent so long researching reusables and was all set to get them and then this weekend I've been on such a downer about "why make extra work for myself when it's going to be hard enough anyway".
I'v been reading my What to expect book re Breastfeeding and I've even started having major doubts about that too....it's like the more info I have and the more I think about stuff the worse and more confused I feel.....

really don't know what to do....just think I'm going to have to stop putting pressure on myself to try and be a supermum and have all these expectations and just go woth my feelings when the time comes....

hormones eh....
x

muminabigtumi · 22/01/2007 20:50

CD - yes get hinting!!!!
I managed to get a lovley diamond eternity ring after James was born....have to say fat chance I will get anything this time round probably....

AngeG · 22/01/2007 21:01

Evening ladies. Have caught up but can remember very little...as usual.

I too feel pretty crappy today and have done since yesterday. I've started to feel queasy again, think as SOSPL said that it's hunger, mine brought on by my 15hr fast for the blood test friday haven't really felt right since then.

Thanks for a new thread EllieK. We definitely need a new one every week now.

On the subject of Eternity rings I have one, which DH bought while we were on holiday last summer Of course I had to help choose...although it would have been nice to surprise me with it.

MIABT - Thinking of the twins. 23 Wks is terribly early, there is a chance for them but in some countries they would not even intervene. Sorry you're feeling low, I think we all feel like that sometimes. I too have that breast feeding book and am worried that I may not be able to manage it again this time and tbh I find it hard enough to keep up with the washing without washing nappies as well, so I'm afraid it will be disposables for me again this time.

Hope everyone else ok.
Going to watch Waking the Dead now. xx

CaptainDippy · 22/01/2007 21:02

[[hugs]] to you MIABT!
