Babbit · 10/01/2007 11:38

Tokentotty - let him wrap you in cotton wool and pamper you like mad. You won't get a look in once bubs arrives!

jem1969 · 10/01/2007 11:54

Hersetta

Thanks for the info- i think I will give them a call

Good luck for your 8 week scan

tokentotty · 10/01/2007 11:55

Hahahahhaha Babbit, you know what ? You are sooooooooooooooo right ! He's gonna be murder and such a spoiler, whereas I'm definitely going to be evil, killjoy parent.

MWAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAA
(ahem....evil laugh btw)

Babbit · 10/01/2007 12:04

How long did those having private scans have to wait for an appointment? I am considering one and wonder how far in advance I have to book. Could ring them to ask I s'pose!!!

pinkranger · 10/01/2007 12:08

my private place could have gotten me in that week! but having one at 10 wks as having the tests aswell

tokentotty · 10/01/2007 12:10

Well I phoned them about 10am yesterday and was offered 7.15pm last night which was perfect for me. Be aware though that you do need a referral form from your GP. I had my booking appt on Friday and asked her to give me the form then and all they do is just fill it in and you take it with you to the scan. I think it's a legal requirement for the private hospital to have before they'll do anything.

pinkranger · 10/01/2007 12:14

that interesting as my place said they didn't need a referral but just to let your gp know you were having it done? how strange? Mine is called a medical imaging centre and not a hospital - that could be why ?

tokentotty · 10/01/2007 12:17

Oh, I've no idea about that then as both my local BUPA hospitals said there was nothing they could do without a referral. Maybe it is the difference between an 'imaging centre' and an actual hospital ? Babbit - call 'em !!!

pinkranger · 10/01/2007 12:20

i did also call a bupa and they qouted me £100 more - they said i need a referral. Then found this place and got 2 scans and nucular test all for 120

boobooma · 10/01/2007 12:23

Hello everyone

GillL, the NCT breastfeeding counsellor is, i quote "free, confidential and open to any woman who needs support with breastfeeding. You do not need to be an NCT member."

There's a helpline open 7 days a week from 8am to 10pm: 08700 444 8708. Must admit I didn't actually use it but it was good to know about in case.

Is anyone else waking up starving in the night? Ate some ginger biscuits just before I went to sleep last night and that meant I went for longer this morning. All I want to eat is cereal and crisps mostly and then really specific stuff like nuts, avocado & mozarella.

tokentotty · 10/01/2007 12:24

Wow that's good ! (where was this ?????) I was really lucky yesterday actually they didn't charge me after all ! The guy who did the scan said to the receptionist that as it was an early scan they could put it through as 'gynae' and therefore my private healthcare from work would cover it, hehehhehehehhe..... Oh, and he gave me 3 pics of Peanut too. Was very chuffed !

tokentotty · 10/01/2007 12:27

Hey boobooma....am giggling to myself now thinking about you snacking in the middle of the night. Thought it was only me who got hungry while I was trying to sleep. Felt like too much of a pig to actually get anything though despite lying there with my tummy rumbling and justifying to myself that it actually would be ok to eat as it had been x hours since I had my dinner.

boobooma · 10/01/2007 12:31

Yes tt, I think you should feed the rumble, I know they say you only need an extra bowl of cereal a day, but I can only eat small meals now so I reckon it balances out if I just trough it 24 hours a day.

tokentotty · 10/01/2007 12:40

Will just get sooooooooo much stick from DH though.... "GO ON FATTY" will definitely be the cry !

feedmenow · 10/01/2007 12:44

Hi everyone. With you all talking about private scans I am getting tempted too. I might have a look online in a mo and see what is in my area. Waiting til 26th seems soooo long!

boobooma · 10/01/2007 12:45

I'd point out that he's half the reason and I'm doing all the work so watch me eat.

Babbit · 10/01/2007 12:49

I just rang the Birth Company and they don't require a referral from GP. I wonder if it may depend on the type of scan you require though. Didn't think about that until I put the phone down however. As for waiting time they seem to be able to fit me in at my convenience.

Tried to get hold of the midwife for comfirmation my local hospital no longer offers dating scans but can't get through. If I can't get one will def go private Can't wait until 20 weeks!!

tokentotty · 10/01/2007 12:53

Ooooh good point BB, well presented. Think I'll give that a whirl as I lie in bed eating big fat chocolate eclairs at 3am.

Feedmenow.....DO IT !!! Go on, go on, go on! I found it such a relief to be honest and it made everything so real. Especially for DH as at this stage there's nothing tangible happening that they can see or understand, but on the screen you really can see what it is and the heart beating. He's not stopped smiling and keeps looking at the pictures. Said he kept looking at them on the tube this morning and grinning like a right saddo. Tres cute.

bambi06 · 10/01/2007 12:54

im getting hungry in the middle of the night too in fact i wake up and cant get back to sleep a the mo as well..probably due to hunger factor..im having trouble sleeping full stop actually but tired during the afternoon and i`ve never had trouble sleeping all the time before i blame all the hormones..damn those hormones!!!

Catalepticdru · 10/01/2007 13:14

TT - my dh treats me like I'm made of glass, so know what you mean. I think as parents will be the same as you and your dh!

Hypoemesis gravidarum is, as I called it, extreme morning sickness, basically you can't keep anything down (not even water) as you are constantly vomiting. The danger is that it can quickly make you dehydrated and you may need a spell in hospital to treat this. Usually not harmful to the baby unless it goes on a long time without being treated.

Hersetta · 10/01/2007 14:12

My viability scan was next Friday (9 weeks exactly) but rang to see is they had any cancellations and managed to get in for tomorrow at 2.30 instead - late lunch for me !

Now very excited (and meven more nervous)!

GillL · 10/01/2007 14:15

Funnily enough before I was pg I used to wake up hungry in the night. I was trying to lose weight but it was virtually impossible when I was chomping on biscuits at 3 o'clock in the morning. Since I've been pg I only wake up to go to the loo.

feedmenow · 10/01/2007 14:17

I've just tried googling private antenatal screening and don't seem to be getting what I want!! Any suggestions....? I need them fast cos I'm off home in 15 mins!!

tokentotty · 10/01/2007 14:26

Feedmenow - which area are you in, might help narrow things down ?

tokentotty · 10/01/2007 14:33

Ooooh Catalepticdru that sounds like a shocker. My sil had that and had to keep being hospitalised which wasn't nice at all especially when having ds2. Still, all turned out wonderfully in the end for her so am sure there'll be lots of light at the end of that three month tunnel

Hersetta - EEEEEEEEEEK !!! Good for you, it's absolutely brilliant seeing your Peanut for the first time. Can't deny it was pretty heartstopping at first when the person doing mine seemed to be hunting round and I couldn't see the screen, but he must have seen my face of fear so turned the screen round and explained what was what and it really felt lovely. (will be secretly nibbling fingernails around 2.30pm tomorrow for you !)
