Fantastic Uki!! That is great news - hope you enjoy next weeks scan just as much!

Paula def phone or go see the GP - even if its to put your mind at rest. They will not think you are over reacting love. Who knows you might get to have a look at your predicted little boy!

Bambi - I feel huge - but maybe it is Christmas I am 10 and 1/2 weeks and have put on 6 Ibs already (and was not skinny to start with!)

Great to have a new thread - although it sure fills up quick!

Hope all not too exhausted this week
GG

pinkranger · 08/01/2007 09:25

uki - i am so pleased for you! xxxx

BibiThree · 08/01/2007 11:13

I'm back. Been sick for about 3 weeks and ha a name change (used to be Bibiboo, was BibiJesus for Christmas) and am now BibiThree as this is my third pg.

After ally mwhinging about not feeligna t all sick or tired, I've had a chest infection, tonsilitis and now sinus infection so have been sick for almost 3 weeks, as well as nauseous and throwing up my breakfast every day, so am well and truly intot he swing of pg.

Hope the sicker amongst you are feeling better now, I know before Christmas there were some very green Mumsnetters on here.

Babbit · 08/01/2007 12:13

Hiya. Back after Christmas now. I am getting broadband at home soon so that should make life a little easier.

My sincerest sympathies for those who have lost their little ones. I am thinking of you.

I just did the predictor thing and apparently am having a boy. Unfortunately, I can't remember what I was predicted to have before. I think I am having a boy too, as despite saying very early on that I wasn't getting morning sickness, I am now and didn't last time (have a girl) and am really hungry all the time (didn't get this last time either). I am very tired again, although I don't think I am as tired as last time (or may be just used to tiredness!!). Just read this back and sounds a little like rambling...

Anyhow, hope you are all well. Had GP appointment on Friday and apparently there is no 12 week scan here (there wasn't last time either but was told this had changed, apparently not.) Am going to go private if they won't give me one. Does anyone know how I go about this? Do I still arrange it through GP/midwife?

Also, my dd has a grade 2 allergy to peanuts and mixed nuts (I avoided peanuts through pregnancy and breastfeeding last time, to no avail). GP says I should just eat normally, including peanuts / nuts where I would usually. Anyone have any thoughts / experience on this?

Sorry for v. long post and thank you for your patience.

Catalepticdru · 08/01/2007 12:20

Hi Babbit!
No you are not rambling ;)
I was told that if there is any history of nut allergies, then avoid foods containing nuts while pg & bf. I would do so, better to be safe than sorry!
No scan at 12 weeks? That's a bit rubbish!
Not sure what you would do to have a private scan, but I think some of the pg ladies have had them and will be able to advise you.

Bibi - welcome back, hope you are starting to feel better, sounds like you are having a rought time.

paulaplumpbottom · 08/01/2007 13:09

Well I saw my GP and she doesn't think its anything to worry about. Guess I was worried for nothing. I still would feel better if the cramps and bleeding would stop but I feel better for having seen her.

hormonalwreck · 08/01/2007 13:18

New thread crickey it's almost as busy as the old one already!

Bambi - yes feel big too. Don't think I've put on any weight but work trousers now just do up in the morning and are well and truely undone by lunchtime (good job I can hide behind desk!) If I pork out normally it goes on stomach and round the sides (attractive love handles). No sides this time first time I've been chuffed to look bigger. Can't wait to have an undisputable bump tho. I just look like someone who could do with losing a few pounds. Went swimming the other day and kept rubbing my tummy as if to say "I'm pg not fat!!!"

paulaplumpbottom · 08/01/2007 13:26

LOL I do that to. Do you think anyone notices?

pinkranger · 08/01/2007 13:35

hi babbit -
Im having private scan at 10 and 14 weeks ( had a prevoius m/c and im a worrery!)

I found a place that does these 2 scans plus the nuclar test all for £120 ( which is very good )

Good in to google and type - private scans in xxxxx ( where ever you are0 and that should help, word of warning Bupa quoted me £182.00 for just n early scan!! [shoc] _ good Luck

Paula - hope that you feel better now you have seen the doctor xx

pinkranger · 08/01/2007 13:36

sorry for bad typing - rushing as im getting ready to go and see kylie tongiht!! ( very excited )

Babbit · 08/01/2007 13:53

Hi Catalepticdru - yes I was told that too (about nuts) but my GP now says "new evidence suggests we are too sterile and exposure to [nuts] may be more beneficial than not". I agree with him in relation to immunity / allergies in general but am not so sure about nuts. I avoided them with my first child and she has a grade 2 allergy (grade 6 being the worst). If I decide to eat them I could either a) best case scenario - reduce / eliminate the risk of allergy or b) worst case scenario - increase the risk of a very serious allergy. (of course there is also c) none of it makes a blind bit of difference.) Am totally at sea...

Pinkranger - thanks for that. Have just googled and it comes up with Birth Centre in Harley Street and Portland Hospital. I will have a chat with midwife and see what she suggests. Hope you have a lovely time at your scans; they really do make everything so real.

feedmenow · 08/01/2007 13:53

Hi everyone. Am booking in with the mw today and was wondering if they normally check for the heartbeat this early (I am about 10 weeks)? I have to wait til 13 weeks for my scan so I'm keen to get some REAL evidence, iyswim!

Babbit · 08/01/2007 14:04

Sorry Feedmenow, I don't think they can hear that yet.

God I'm cross

Made pick-children-up-from-school arrangements, sat in waiting room for 20 mins, followed mw in and found out that they hadn't booked me in correctly! They'd put me down for a normal appt not an hour long booking in one! And to make me even crosser, although I was only with her about 3 mins, I don't think I like her. And the way she said "see you next week" makes me think I'll be booking in with her! Also, she said about needing longer to book cos of detailed medical history and bloods....I didn't get a chance to tell her I won't be having them done!! Oh well.......

conkertree · 08/01/2007 15:45

hi everyone - am having a strangely normal feeling day - was sick on Friday but think it was the bug thats going round rather than pg symptoms as the sickness was worse than my ms has been, then today for the first time for about 5 weeks i feel totally fine.

I even feel as if I've got some energy and I enjoyed my lunch. Its such a bizarre feeling after so long of feeling sick constantly. My first thought was to worry that something was wrong, but I have decided to be positive about everything and if something bad did happen, I'd deal with it then. Purplerabbit can worry for Scotland, so I think I need to be the opposite.

Am about 10 1/2 weeks now and am quite relieved that i dont seem to have put on too much weight - although this may change if i have got my appetite back.

Wanted to ask catalepticdru if you can tell me what your name means - I was accompanying my dh (on the bike) at the weekend on his 7 mile run (not fair - he's training for a marathon and will get increasingly toned as i get increasingly fatter) and your name kept going round and round in my head, but I think I was pronouncing it catalepdricu - and I just couldn't work out what it meant. If it would stop you remaining anonymous, then don't worry but would love to know.

Sorry for such a long post but just have so much more energy today.

conkertree · 08/01/2007 15:46

sorry feed me - crossed with your post - that does sound extremely annoying - i didn't like my mw much either but i dont think i have to see her after that first appointment.

GillL · 08/01/2007 16:04

Hello everyone. Hope you're all ok. I'm feeling terrible all the time at the moment. I've had a bad headache all weekend and went to bed at 7.30 last night. I was so annoyed with dh though. He knew my head was bad but refused to get up at 1am when dd woke up. I read in the previous thread about other peoples' partners being just as bad so I know I'm not alone. I wanted to stay in bed this morning so he had to get up at 6.30 with dd. He seemed quite angry about it but he really resents anyone who prevents him from sleeping.

I didn't get to work til 1pm today due to feeling so awful. I'm really starting to think I'm going to have to tell some people so it doesn't look like I'm taking the p*. I don't normally take much time off sick so I also don't want them to worry. Has anyone else been telling people at work at this early stage?

conkertree · 08/01/2007 16:21

I have told one person to help me out at the night out, and the trainee solicitor as he is sharing my office at the moment and had to tell him as there was no way i could keep hiding feeling sick for so long.

On Friday I took what I think must be my first sick half day ever cause of really bad sickness and was quite tempted to tell people cause everyone had a similar bug but I was the only one being actually sick with it. Felt a bit guilty about going home when everyone else was coughing and spluttering too but then was sick quite violently another three times at home so felt justified. Didn't tell them in the end though and got over it by people assuming I'd eaten something.

If it kept happening though I think I would just decide it was easier to tell them than not. suppose it depends how long it is till you'd want to tell them anyway.

GillL · 08/01/2007 16:27

I've already told my team manager. I think I'm also going to tell the manager of the team that I supervise and a close colleague. I would have told people after the first scan (assuming everything's ok). I'm 8 weeks now and booking in next Friday. I can't remember from last time but I don't think it's long after that before I get my scan.

Catalepticdru · 08/01/2007 16:36

Hey conker tree...
My name doesn't mean anything!
I tried registering on another website ages ago, as "Drusilla" after the character in Buffy, but couldn't so I shortened to dru and added cataleptic as a completely random word.
Though my husband often remarks that after 10pm it's as if my batteries run down and I become a bit cataleptic...
Catalepsy is actually a disorder associated with Parkinson's and Alzeimers, when the body becomes rigid and slows down, and breathing slows down. It often comes on quite suddenly.

Gill, sorry to hear you are so ill. I told a few people at work as soon as I knew but that was only because I work in a hazardous environment. It's entirely up to you. There has been a lot of vomiting bugs going arouns, one of my colleagues and her entire family were down with it last week.

OP posts:
Hersetta · 08/01/2007 16:39

I've just booked private scans as well.

I have an 8 week viability scan next week (£100) then during week 12 and 2 days before my NHS scam I'm booked for a Nuchal scan and blood tests (£150).

I booked mine with the Fetal Medicine Centre in Harley Street.

Hormonalwreck - good to chat with another local (although I'm in Herts not in Cambs). My SIL is in Rosie at the moment with pre-ecampsia and has been since Dec 30 - she's now there for another 4 weeks as they now won't let her out until they do the CS on Feb 5th - poor thing so I guess I'll get some pretty decent info from her - when I can tell her about my pg that it.

Still no MS for me (7+2)which is a big releif - especially as I am travelling to Chicago on business next Monday. Feel pretty crappy and exhausted by the end of the day but on the whole better than I had anticipated. My Mum said she never had any MS with me so hopefully that was inherited!

jem1969 · 08/01/2007 16:53

Hersetta

I had a 7 week scan privately (saw the heartbeat, thank god). I have a nuchal scan at my NHS hospital in London at 12 weeks exactly but a few friends have recommended having it done at the fetal medicine centre as the results come through much quicker.

Do you know if this is true?

I was going to ask my midwife about it at my first appointmnet next week but as she woks for the NHS hospital I felt she might be a bit miffed if I mentioned going privately instead?

ps to anyone else- I am 8 weeks and 3 days and am so bloated my stomach looks as though I'm 8 months pregnant? Also, have not had much in the way of MS until today and now feel bloody awful. Anyone else not felt sick until this time?

Thanks

Hersetta · 08/01/2007 17:12

Jem1969,

I think they do come through a bit quicker (a couple of days compared to 7-10 with NHS).

I'm not going to mention my private scans to my NHS midwife - don't want to be told off for having a scan done for no reason when I already know the results. My hubby can't make the private ones as I work in central London and he is 50 miles away but he can make the NHS one so that one will be where he can see the baby for the first time (fingers crossed). Can't wait to see the heartbeat - very nervous at the moment.
