OK, so I have the positive pregnancy testS! - we have told one person, are agonising about who else to tell when, we have bought two books on pregnancy.

But what happens next? Do I just phone the doctor tommorow to make an appointment, should I wait a couple of weeks? Then what happens?

Total newbie to this, no idea what I am doing at all!

TeeCee · 07/02/2007 15:36

minxx - twins - omg! Ha haaaaaaa, how mad and exciting. How are you feeling? So how come you had a scan already? I feel like I'm the only one that hasn't been seen by anyone yet, please tell me to shut up being mad, either that or confirm that i'm being neglected!

Minxx · 07/02/2007 15:49

TeeCee, I had a scan today because they didnt know how far I was, Now I know I am 7 weeks today.Because babi is sooo small still they couldnt see properly whether it was one babi or two. But it did look like there was more than one !! Help. My youngest is 13 and didnt expect to get pregnant again let alone have twins eeek

TeeCee · 07/02/2007 16:42

LOL Minxx. Well at least your yougest is old enough to learn the joys of nappy changing, and can at lest hold one for you now and then or get something for you.

Scary though ayye, but very exciting.

Ohhhhhhhh I want a scan or something I need it confirmed by someone so I know it's not all in my head!

I seem to feel sick every other day mornings only. So every other day and most afternoons I spend my time thinking, am I pregnant or not????

laksa · 07/02/2007 16:57

Minx you are due same date as me ....teecee, just had a look at your profile, your kids are gorgeous oh and I'm also reading perfume at the moment, its good!!

laksa · 07/02/2007 16:59

oh and Minx, my mum had my lil brother when I was ten and my sister was 14 and she had free babysitters and he grew up with 3 mothers...she said it was a breeze with her helpers!

maretta · 07/02/2007 17:05

Hi

I haven't posted for ages. I hope everyone is doing OK,

I'm now 10 weeks and still haven't received a scan date. I rang the hospital and my referral had not been received from the doctors. Apparantly it won't be a problem but it's a hassle trying to get it sorted and I just want a date.

Don't you feel a bit of a fraud until you've seen a baby

HammerHeadShark · 07/02/2007 18:37

Have been trying in vain to book a GP or midwife booking appointment today - the receptionist at my practice seems to have gone a bit mad and power crazed and said I couldn't see a GP until the 4th March or a midwife until I was 12 weeks. I then queried how I would get booked in for a scan at the hospital as I assumed I would have the nuchal scan at 12 weeks again as I am so very ancient! When I insisted on at least speaking to a GP or midwife about a 12 week scan before march she eventually suggested I phone at 8am tomorrow for an emergency Gp appointment which are given out on the day. I am glad I have been through this before or I might
easily have missed the window for the nuchal scan otherwise. Dur!

Thanks TinaLC for the excercise advice - think I shall cut down from running to jogging like you have - good idea. However, I think it will be impossible for me to look 'cool and elegant' when excercising or at any other time for that matter - will try not to get too hot and hufty pufty tho'

TeeCee · 07/02/2007 19:14

Thanks very much Laksa

sophus · 08/02/2007 09:01

morning all and welcome to this snowy winter wonderland. Having had a relatively M/S free day yesterday just threw up my breakfast in quite spectacular style and was quite relieved. Doesn't pregnancy make you think weird things? I am even going to try to go running at the weekend, would be good to have exercise back in my life after a month of sofas and staring down toilet bowls.
Enjoy the snow all.

Flossam · 08/02/2007 10:26

Hi TeeCeee! congratulations!

I'm still feeling mostly better, fabulous yesterday, little more quesy again today. Trying not to worry about feeling so good... I had an early scan because of cramping and two miniscaul (sp) bleeds, was so early it was a big worry esp as they thought embryo was too small. But all is fine. I won't get another scan now till 20 weeks as they don't offer routine nuchal scans down here. I have booking in app on the 28th. Going to try and get DP to get time off to come as hoping the m/w will help convince him of the benefits of home birth... I have told him if he dosen't come to be part of the decision making process he can't make the decision!! The only thing which I need to check about is that my bloods are alright, as I am A -, DP is B+ and DS is a+, bloods showed some antibodies post delivery but might have been due to the anti d.

We're off out now to enjoy the snow! It is melting alarmingly quickly.

EdieMcredie · 08/02/2007 11:33

Had my booking appointment yesterday, nothing interesting to say, however I cannot believe how much the mat pack has grown since I was last pg.

I was going to come on here and moan to you all about how I have not been sick for the past two days and how I was concerned that this had meant I was miscarrying but this morning out of nowhere I vomitted all over the bathroom floor (TMI) so im well happy!!!!!

However it does generally seem to be easing...either that or im coping better with it.

How is everyone?? Im very constipated, I keep getting horrible tummy pains and I did worry about them until I realised I haven't been going very often...

EdieMcredie · 08/02/2007 11:35

Im so glad others on here are as mad as me and seem to be enjoying being sick now and worrying when they feel ok. As it seems to be happening to a few of us, maybe it's just normal to start feeling a bit better at this stage? Im 9 weeks tomorrow xxxxxxx

Minxx · 08/02/2007 11:36

Well I did like the snow ! Just popped down the shop and fell over, bruised bum leg and graised hand and knee. Feel a right plonker 1..... Also DH has just called, seems like he is gonna be in Iraq when baby/babies are due. Not looking forward to doing this one on my own. Feeling really down now , falling over didnt help...

EdieMcredie · 08/02/2007 11:39

Im also the same re gone off veg but bloody love the following:

Jacket pots and cheese
ReadyBrek
Cheese and pot pie
Macaroni cheese

EdieMcredie · 08/02/2007 11:40

Aww Minxx, sorry you fell over.

Also awful news about the due date/DH in Iraq, I know it's not the same but is there a friend/family member who can be your birthing partner??

Minxx · 08/02/2007 11:59

EdieMcredie, I have no family locally, although I have MIL in scotland that would fly down if I needed her.
I was gonna ask my DD if she would like to be with me, but she is 13, does anyone think she is too old to ask ?.... I know she would love to, but is it too young to see your mother in labour ?....

EdieMcredie · 08/02/2007 12:06

Tough one really, hard to make a judgement without knowing her, maturity varies so much at that age. I guess it depends on her reaction, if she is up for it then why not? She might end up loving it and learning a lot. Just make sure she is well-briefed!! Maybe if she comes along with your MIL? So if it gets a bit much for her you still have someone there?

Flossam · 08/02/2007 13:32

It would be very hard for her to see you in so much pain. But you know her best. I'd speak to people who know you both and see what they think? Sorry you will be alone.

I'm in love with passion fruits at the moment. I'm eating 2 a day which is a little expensive, but I've now run out. I think I might be coming down with DS's cold today so I feel a bit more rough today.

We went out for a bit of a trudge in the snow, which was nice. DS was quite excited, but just as quickly the cold all got a bit much for him and he was very miserable! I had serious doubts about taking him out in the snow with a cold, but it happens so rarely now and he was so excited to see it, and desperate to get out! Hoping it might have helped to tire him out though and I could get a nap this afternoon????

spraklynewthing · 08/02/2007 14:14

Hi All,

Starting to get narked off now. Can I check whether everyone has at least had contact with their midwive about booking in and 12 week scan dates? I am due around 3rd Sept and have heard nothing despite checking with gp twice. I know it differs from area to area - anyone in East Kent? (or specifcially Canterbury on here)

I am nearly 11 weeks and have heard nothing as yet.

Cheers!

sophus · 08/02/2007 15:31

hi snt - i am due 6th sept. i got a date for my booking in and nuchal scan within a week of first going to doctor when i was only 4 weeks. Have since had booking in and heartbeat scan, and am booked in for nuchal in 2 weeks time. Have also been given my dates for all subsequent tests and scans. i am in south cambs and i have to say its all gone like clockwork so far. if i was in your position i think i would be climbing the walls and making sweary phone calls.

EdieMcredie · 08/02/2007 15:31

Im not even 9 weeks yet and I have already had my booking app and I have had my scan date for ages. I think it is out of order that you haven't seen anyone yet and you need to put your foot down...

maretta · 08/02/2007 15:36

Hi Sparkynewthing.

I am in a very similar position to you, due about the 8th and as yet no dates. It is sending me insane.

I think you should definitely ring the hospital.

I rang the hospital and asked to be put through to the community midwife. I explained the problem and they put me through to the reception for ante-n, who could confirm my appointment time.

It was a good job I rang because it turned out that my referral hadn't been received from the gp. I've spent a coupel of days chasing it all up. I know the hospital now has the referral but I can't get an appointment until a consultant comes in on Monday - who knows why.

With my previous 2, I had a booking in appointment with a community midwife at 5/6 weeks, but apparently they've stopped that. 12 week scan is the first point of contact.

Good luck.

spraklynewthing · 08/02/2007 15:50

Thank you sophus, edie & Maretta for your support.

I am one of those 'don't like to make a fuss' people who ends up climbing walls and then totally blows a fuse to an inappropriate person who has nothing to do with it in the first place.

I will definitely make a call tomorrow and NOT to my gp, who are generally wonderful but have been really unhelpful in this instance!

I will let you know if I have any success. although, if you see on the news a crazed lady has been spotted changing around the corridors of the Kent & Canterbury hospital screaming 'I ONLY WANT A MIDWIVE AND A SCAN!!!' You know who it is!

spraklynewthing · 08/02/2007 15:53

charging not changing!
