OK, so I have the positive pregnancy testS! - we have told one person, are agonising about who else to tell when, we have bought two books on pregnancy.

But what happens next? Do I just phone the doctor tommorow to make an appointment, should I wait a couple of weeks? Then what happens?

Total newbie to this, no idea what I am doing at all!

SNT I live in mid kent ( maidstone area) and when i saw the gp to confirm pg I was told to book a midwife appt for 10 weeks - which ive just had - and she has sent the refferal for a 12 week scan, I think seeing the gp or phoning the hosp is a v. gd idea. I know what you mean about not making a fuss, but you want to make sure you are 'in the system'

eddie, hope you are feeling better, but know what you mean about being worried - ive been a lot better the last couple of weeks but felt sick todat and was happy !! weird eh!

Teecee - how exciting and scary - when will you find out for def if its twins?

Minxx sorry about your dh being away, think having DD and MIL as b.partners great idea, you dont want to be worrying about your dd whilst in labour - mind you it will be a grt contraceptive lesson for her !!

Flossam · 08/02/2007 17:13

In my practice you self refer to the midwife. Was somewhat that you needed no proof you were pregnant. When I was in London, pg with DS I had to go to drs, then go to a pharmacy which did pregnancy testing (quite a rare thing in east london it would seem!) and return with my positive test before I would be referred anywhwere.

I have my booking appointment next week when I will be almost 11.5 weeks. My scan is supposed to be booked after that, so I expect it will be after 12 weeks. I phoned the midwives to query this and I was told that the scan I had at 7.5 weeks can be used for dating and not to worry. I'm nervous about the next scan, I'm paranoid that something has gone wrong. Although....

I seem to be developing something of a bump . Or maybe I've just been eating too much now I'm feeling better! Anyone know when a bump is visible with twins?

spraklynewthing · 09/02/2007 09:04

Morning All!

I have an update 're: my narkedoffness' yesterday. As per Maretta's advice I called the hospital yesterday evening and asked for the community midwive. She checked the files and they do have my referral and my midwive will be contacting me either today or early next week for booking in appointment. Apparently I will be having a scan at 12 weeks, so I assume it will definitely be sometime next week or next after. Yey!

Felt great yesterday about it and know feel stressed all over again as don't actually have an date to work with and playing the waiting game again - no pleasing me, eh ! !

I do appear to have acquired a bump but my DH says its more likely to be cottage pie than baby ! Although Jess, if it's twins you will start showing about now!

FioFio: Will you be at K&C or QEQM? 17 weeks?! That's crazy!!! Maybe you need to keep ringing til it's down to 12..

I just think what is really annoying is they everyone across the country or even county had different ante-natal care. If it was the same across the board at least we would know where we stand and we wouldn't become stressed out wrecks!

spraklynewthing · 09/02/2007 09:33

GUESS WHAT - just had a call from midwive - having booking in appointment this afternoon!

Minxx · 09/02/2007 09:37

I have to say, my youngest is nearly 13 and things have really changed. Before you had to miss 2 periods and then do a test with the nurse before they would acknowlege you was pregnant. This time I just went in and said I have done a home test, and they said we will book you in to see the mw. And that appointment was in 3 weeks.I can understand that there is lots of pregnant ladies out there and ladies trying so the need for mw is very busy. However my point is everyone is different and we all have different needs and should be treated as an individual not as another cow in a ever running herd. As things have changed so much since my last pregnancy i have a lot of questions i would like to ask for some reassurance, and they look as me as if i am thick and a pain in the ar*e. I have a appointment to see my mw next week, hopefully she will be more helpful.

minxx - I think you make a good point. My mum was amazed that I had a scan at 5 weeks after a bleed. She had no scans, home births and the pregnancy wasn't even 'a pregnancy' until 3 month (hence the tradition of waiting until 12 weeks to announce a birth). She thinks it's all crzy and makes pregnancy far more stressful. Too much information syndrome. With too much information comes questions and worries.

I do agree each woman is an individual and her needs and wishes should be first priority in terms of ante-natal care. However, if there was a pattern - book in around 10 wks and scan 12 weeks, the onus would be on the woman to opt out as she desires.

Fiofio- Ha Ha - I work at CCCU down the hill, so even more similarities, eh!? I am in maternity jeans already cos they are soooooooo comfy! Very attached already! I am SUCH a slob..

sophus · 09/02/2007 10:25

I noticed a bump last night for the first time but partner took one look at me and said "nah you're just fat" - what a charmer. But there is a definite shape there which is not just lucozade, jelly beans and mashed potato. Will be buying big squashy jumper tomorrow so i can try and keep it hidden for another two weeks.
Glad to hear you have your appt SNT, hope it goes well.
I agree about the information overload. I think the internet should be banned for the first month of pregnancy at least - it really helped to fuel my paranoia.
Managed to go out last night for first time since ms started - hurrah. And that was after a day when i was sick mroe than on any other day so far. I might as well have climbed everest I was that proud of myself!

Flossam · 09/02/2007 11:01

Well I managed to convince DP that there is a bump there this morning! I said the same last week and he said 'Nah, you've always looked like that'. Thanks. He is probably right though. Am considering going shopping today for a few maternity bits, as I'm finding my clothes uncomfy. Last time with DS I kept trying to buy clothes in a bigger size, but they didn't last and didn't look good. So will probably just see what I can find. Not feeling quite so good again at the moment. My mum and I went to the new thermal spa in Bath on Monday, and I felt fab tues and weds. So i wonder if it was assosciated with that? And if I could justify spending £40 a week on twice weekly visits to keep me feeling healthy?

canadianmum · 09/02/2007 11:01

Hello all, I have not checked in for a while, too tired to read ! 9 weeks tomorrow and worried too - because I am feeling much less queasy....pathetic isn't it.

Finally had a letter from the hospital saying that I am on the "yellow team" and my booking appt date should be arriving soon. Also got a huge leaflet saying "Have you considered a home birth?". But I can honestly say that after severe pre-eclampsia and prematurely born twins, the answer to that would be NO!

I am now down to just 3 pairs of jeans that I can wear and 2 of them are pretty close to being consigned to the back of the wardrobe. Yikes, I am not ready for maternity clothes yet......

Good luck all, hope those booking appts and scans start getting booked up properly, sounds like the maternity care in this country hasn't improved much since I had my boys over 4 years ago.....

Flossam · 09/02/2007 11:09

Woo hoo I just checked my bank statement and I can actually afford to go shopping! No stopping me no

laksa · 09/02/2007 11:13

Hi guys

sorry to post and run but am in agony. Can anyone tell me if they have felt like this? My stomach (not womb) appears to be in spasm and is like someone is grabbing hold of it and wringing it out. I feel slight nausea but its the pain I am feeling that is making me want to cry. I am just lying on the sofa and can't move much. Is this normal? Promise I will catch up on other posts soon.

xx

spraklynewthing · 09/02/2007 11:34

Hi Laska,

Sounds painful. Could it be wind or constipation? I have had terrible wind related tummy pains (sorry TMI!). Possibly ligaments moving - also pretty sore.

I always think it's best to work on the side of caution and get medicial advice - just to put your mind at rest.

Hope it settles down soon.

Minxx · 09/02/2007 11:38

I had pain like that last week, It was wind !I just drank plenty and walked around to try and shift it !.....Only lasted a day. Hope you are feeling better soon

laksa · 09/02/2007 11:44

its not wind as its too high up for that, its my stomach not intestines. If I get wind pains it normally feels more like intestinal lower down pain...I agree that is not nice either. I feel like I have a stomach virus or something?? Anyway sorry to whinge

maretta · 09/02/2007 12:31

Hi all

Pleased you got it all sorted sparklynewthing. Good luck with your appointment

Laksa - sounds really painfull. COuld it be indegestion.

I am now sulking as I think I'm the only one with no appointment, and I've not had a scan. Mind you, I had an early bleed first time round so I'm pleased I've not been through that again.

Holly29 · 09/02/2007 16:16

update from booking in appointment: Lovely midwife and very productive appointment. Looks likely a elective ceasar is the cards as I am in my own words ' a bit of a liability'

Maretta: ring again on monday to chase. My midwive said I should never feel like I am fussing and it's always worth chasing appointments as so many different agencies are involved with a/n care that things do get lost. I still don't have a scan date if that's any consolation!

kinki · 09/02/2007 20:56

Hello ladies. I've not been around for a while, I've been a bit ill. I feel for all those with ms as I'm at that stage now. I'm very excited as I had a letter this morning with an appt for a scan and to see the consultant next week. I'll only be 8wks. It's on valentines day which makes it really lovely! I've not even had my booking-in appt yet, but apparently that's not a problem. Apologies if this sounds like bragging to those who are struggling to get appointments, its just that I'm really excited! Hope you all have a great weekend.

pinkhearts · 09/02/2007 22:35

Hi ladies. I have been lurking around until I had my scan last week. I am just over 9 weeks. I was also waiting to join as I had miscarriage at 3 months last year and then had a bleeding scare earlier on this pregnancy. I know my due date as I have planned an elective caes. after complications with my son.

I am so pleased I discovered this site last year as the ladies are so supportive of each other in all kinds of situations.

I have been feeling rather sick and tired on and off but while I am sick, I know I am still pregnant which me for is comforting.
