OK, so I have the positive pregnancy testS! - we have told one person, are agonising about who else to tell when, we have bought two books on pregnancy.

But what happens next? Do I just phone the doctor tommorow to make an appointment, should I wait a couple of weeks? Then what happens?

Total newbie to this, no idea what I am doing at all!

Hi guys, sorry everyone seems to be feeling rough. I've just started to feel a bit queasy and stupidly I've put off essay writing and revising till now... Yep I keep reading baby books and daydreaming instead of getting down to it ugghhh! Anyway guess I'd better go make a start

xx

oh when did everyone MS start, I'm 6+2 right now.

sophus · 01/02/2007 12:08

i thought i was doing really well with the m/s learning how to cope etc. Spoke too soon... took a turn for the worse earlier this week and now being sick constantly and dr has signed me off work as i can't eat enough. He did prescribe me jelly beans though. First time since i was a kid that the doctor told me to be a good girl and eat sweets! I look rubbish, i smell, i'm grumpy and whiny and burst into tears at drop of a hat as blood sugar is on the floor. Ain't pregnancy great?! But am hanging on in there - it can't last forever - can it? So lots of sympathy to everyone feeling rubbish, i've given up being brave

canadianmum · 01/02/2007 18:45

My MS started at 6 weeks exactly, it is actually better at the moment, just a bit queasy in the morning and then fine once I have eaten properly. If I eat regularly then I feel Ok. Everyone is very different, evidently bad MS means you are having a girl but who knows . Very sorry to hear about those of you feeling rubbish. have you tried ginger tea or sniffing lemons?, works for some .

My main complaint is fatigue that hits randomly throughout the day so that I can barely keep my eyes open - aaaah the joys of pregnancy..

I am still feeling rubbish too. I was first sick at 5+5 weeks but it is much much worse now (7 +2) just can't wait for it to go away. Major traumas last night over a cottage pie with DH and I rowing over cooking it and then not being able to eat very much of it anyway. Does anyone else find that MS is really bad for their relationship? Or do you all have lovely sympathetic DPs who do all the cooking early in the evening and go out for ice cream in the night? I know it can't be fun to live with me at the moment but surely we don't have to argue so much. I agree that eating is the answer but sometimes I just can't think what to eat that won't make me sicker.

Laksa - I did an exam mid MS last time round and I don't know how I managed to revise but I did at the last minute and then I did ok - adrenaline must help somehow - good luck. I remember how awful it was. There is a theory I studies at uni (years ago) that if you feel the same when you revise as when you have to do the exam then you remember more so the sickness might even help.......

Have told work today who were very sweet about it so that is one scary task ticked off the list. Midwife coming next week to do my booking - looking forward to that.

Hope you are having better days today

EllieG · 02/02/2007 13:19

I feel really fat at the moment. Is anyone else feeling all bloated? I know it's too early to show but I just look all lumpy and nothing fits nicely.

Flossam · 02/02/2007 16:32

I'm just feeling constantly nauseaus really, which does ease off when I eat, ohh, for about 5 minutes when I generally find it is time to eat again. I am sure last time it was just the 'morning' sickness thing. This lasts all day and my whole life seems to be revolving around food. I have a spa day with my mum on Monday, and the only bit I am looking forward to is the lunch afterwards... .

I also have, (how cruel is this) terrible indegestion already. I am burping like a trooper and am becoming very well acquanted with a certain pharmaceutical called gaviscon. Roll on free prescriptions.

Fatigue has also set in. Thank god DS still naps as I have spent the past two afternoons in bed from 2pm till around 4. Tomorrow however I am working so that isn't going to be good.

I am trying to remain positive and think that at 8+2 I am halfway through the worst bit... And trying to forget that it wasn't untill about 19/20 weeks I think last time that the indegestion really kicked in, I couldn't eat drink or sleep and had several days off work with it so really hoping I can avoid that this time.

It seems that we are all feeling pretty much as rough as each other, so we should try and take some comfort in that .

Angua, don't know if you will pop back on here to look but I am so very sorry that this has happened and I wish you the very best luck.

laksa · 02/02/2007 16:39

Nettee, that is very comforting, at the moment it isn't bad at all but if it does get worse, I will bringing a bucket into the exam room

On a more worrying note, I registered with a gp practice closer to home today, and they took my blood pressure which is 140/78!! That is high isn't it, when I was fitter and lighter it used to be 128/? Should I be worried??? I feel really crap now as I knew I was unhealthy but didn't realise it had got that bad No protein in urine though.

HammerHeadShark · 02/02/2007 21:29

Hi laksa - I wouldn't worry too much about your BP being 140/78 - the most important bit of the reading is the lower one and yours is textbook perfect . The upper reading, the 140, can vary alot with stress, exertion etc and is only a little elevated. My BP was often 160/80 when my GP checked it during my last pregnancy but when I checked it at work (am a nurse) it was usually 120/70 as there was less pressure on me for it to be 'normal' IYKWIM! Hope you feel better soon but always give your gp a call if you want your mind setting at rest.

Sorry to all of you who are having horrendous MS and hope you feel better soon. I have (perhaps unwisely) decided to up my work hours to full time for the next six months to save some money and get slightly more maternity pay, so hope I don't get too knackered. I was very lucky and felt great when I was pregnant with my twins so hope this one continues the same way.

All the best September mummies

potoroo · 02/02/2007 21:34

ElieG - yup, bloated and feeling like I have a tummy already. Too early to show, so it must be just too much food

TOD · 03/02/2007 08:50

Hi all..........had my repeat scan yeaterday and all is perfect saw the little heart beat flickering and I nearly cried.....am over the moon!!
I am 8 weeks today....horray!!
Feeling pretty awful too........constantly nauseous and the odd episode of throwing up(sorry)......However it is a good signFlossam I am also burping like crazy........very embarrassing.
Tiredness has also set in..never felt this tired on my DS but then I could rest when i wanted to.......when i got home from work etc....
Anyway this part will pass and hopefully we will all bloom and look and feel wonderful in the 2nd trimester!!!!

sophus · 03/02/2007 16:38

After an awful week am feeling vaguely human today. Constant diet of jelly beans and lucozade - you wouldn't believe that before i got pregant i was an organic, slow-foodie freak who wouldn't let a ready-meal within 10 miles of her house.

Nettee, i agree re relationships, my husband is being amazing, doing all the cooking and chores and i don't have to lift a finger, but he also thinks i'm just being a lazy so-and-so who moaning about being pregnant and can't be bothered to make an effort to look good, and picks the mushrooms out of the delicious meal he's just made, etc, etc, etc.

And yes to burping, it just never stops.

But hey, have only thrown up once today, i got a decent night's sleep and for once (but once only) i'm not complaining.

canadianmum · 03/02/2007 19:48

laksa, my bp was about the same as yours when I went for my first GP appt. I think it was because I felt really nervous for some reason, like she might actually say "you're not really pregnant you silly cow" or something!! Anyway, near the end of the appt when I was more relaxed she took it again and it was 120/70. Weird.

8 weeks today and feeling queasy and tired and hungry....DH is fab, lets me choose our supper and then cooks it. Cooking my boys' meals is really doing my head in though!

Anyone else hideously spotty??

EdieMcredie · 03/02/2007 20:13

Unfortunately eating is not working for me, my MS is awful, although I do have about five hours in middle of day when im not feeling sick. On average I vomit around 5 times a day and I even throw up water. Eating makes no odds really, it just means that being sick is a bit more comfortable. Took some paracetamol today for headache but that also came up. Don't know what to do...nothing seems to work!

Flossam · 03/02/2007 22:30

for edie

Sorry you are feeling so crap. Hope something on here may helP?

laksa · 04/02/2007 11:47

Edie, sorry you are feeling so crap, hopefully the sickness will tail off soon...

Hammerhead, Canandianmum, thanks for putting my mind at rest. I was so worried that on friday night I went round to my mums and borrowed her home BP Monitor. I have taken my BP about 6 times at different times of the day now (my arm has taken a beating) and the results keep coming up with a BP of around 100/65...isn't that low?? I am now thoroughly confused, and don't believe these readings as they are the complete opposite of what I had at the surgery. I give up

xx

jess1996 · 04/02/2007 14:52

I am 10 weeks today and I've been feeling a lot less sick for the past week. Now I'm just paranoid that things have gone wrong and when I finally go for my scan there'll be no heartbeat. Does anyone else feel that way? Sorry for all those suffering with ms, I felt crap at 8 weeks. I'm really glad it was quite short lived. Still quite tired though.

missmapp · 04/02/2007 18:39

Hi all,

eddie, sorry your feeling so bad, I hope it eases off soon. I dont know any remedies, as i was lucky last time, but maybe a visit to the midwife if you cant keep anything down. Hopefully it will go soon.

Ellieg - i know what you mean about feeling bloated - i went for a run yesterday to try and fend off the fat look, but fear i may be in maternity clothes a lot earlier with this pg.

Jess - i feel exactly the same, we are mad arnt we, ifelt lousy at 8 weeks and was moaning and now at 10 weeks i feel ok im worried, im off to see the midwife on tues for my booking appoint so hopefully will find out when the first scan will be. my ds was concieved after fertility treatment so had lots of early scans, so happy as i am with miracle babes, i do miss those scans!

Hope all who are feeling lousy get better soon and reach that glowing phase i hear so much about!!

Nettee · 05/02/2007 08:02

Hi everyone, just to express some solidarity with Edie - I am feeling sick sick sick, has me in tears most days. At least DH had become a bit more understanding now and we have developed a way of coping (sort of) - although he says he is moving out if it goes on longer than last time! I am considering asking the doctor what he thinks about prescribing anti sickness medication. I am sure he will say no but maybe worth a discussion if only to get some sympathy! I have discovered that pinapple juice goes down quite well but I know that you shouldn't have too much of that because of miscarriage risk..... Hot chocolate seems to be another possibility.

Those of you who are feeling better at 10 weeks - I am sure that is normal and you are just lucky especially if you are still feeling tired. Good luck for your scans coming up soon. I met someone yesterday who was 34 weeks and still being sick - Poor poor girl. I am hanging on to the hope of recovery at 14 weeks like last time but I know there is no guarantee. At least I don't have hyperemesis and can keep some food down some of the time. There are always people worse off........

Nettee · 05/02/2007 08:04

Edie - sorry I ended up ranting about me. If you can't keep anything down at all you should go to the doctor in case you are becoming dehydrated. Do you manage to eat and dring anything in your 5 hours off in the day?

Me too! Though am feeling very grateful am not being all sicky and not worrying about it at all actually.
Had to get fitted for a maternity bra today - they are the biggest scariest pieces of underwear I have EVER seen but should stop my boobs sagging round my knees, so I suppose is sensible.

Nettee · 05/02/2007 15:38

EllieG - very sensible to get the maternity bra - hope it does the trick. I am enjoying having my boobs back now that I am pregnant again.

Chattyhan · 05/02/2007 16:21

I had my booking appointment today. I had to go to the surgery for a 45 min appointment which was a real drag with DS. They came out to me last time but it was a different docs and when i asked why she said it was to save time as they can get really held up at peoples houses!

According to my LMP i'm 8 + 1 but the scan said 7 + 3, interestingly the midwife said they won't alter my due date if it's less than 7 days different so does that mean i say i'm 8 + 1!! They said all will be confirmed at 12 wk scan.

Generally feeling very sick but not been sick. I find lemon flavour sweets and lucozade help and i've taken to drinking hot water and lemon slices cos i can't face tea!! Otherwise just very tired.
