Babe · 22/01/2007 10:42

Suzi2 - when they told you that you were 7cm dilated - does that mean you've started labour?

It's funny that we all seem to want to get on and have the babies as soon as possible. I'm still working so it would be a bit inconvenient until the end of January (I wanted the max maternity leave the other side of the baby), but got a lovely note from Human Resources saying that if I gave birth I would have to start my maternity leave earlier. Errr ok.

TuttiFrutti · 22/01/2007 10:54

Babe - yes, it definitely does mean you're in labour! Most people who get to 7cm really know about it, IYSWIM!

SmudgeMum · 22/01/2007 11:37

Thanks for the hope re being a wuss Suzi2 but I guess I'll just have to wait and see! I'm not exactly sure what raspberry leaf tea does - something to do with making the second stage of labour more effective I think leahsmum. I went to get some on Friday and was told by the lady in the shop that the tea tastes pretty vile so got the capsules. I'm 38 weeks so decided to just take one capsule a day for the first few days because I don't want anything to happen too quickly!

I feel like I'm just playing the waiting game now. I think we've got things pretty much ready, stuff in house sorted out roughly so now just need the baby to make an appearance. It sounds like things might be happening for you soon becs21. Have you settled into your flat? Hope the mw appointment this pm goes ok. Let us know cos we'll all be dead if you're next!!

becs21 · 22/01/2007 11:47

i will let u know how i get on i hope i am next cant take much more i have settled in now bit happier am still looking to move but will wait for baby now xx

MrsJ · 22/01/2007 12:02

Hi I have been lurking on this thread for a while in a mix of not knowing what to post and having time to do it!
Finished work a week last thursday but I am technically on holiday at the moment, my mat leave starts officially a week today.

I'm due the 11th Feb but at the moment i'm in a bit of limbo as there is cause to think they may deliver sooner as theres problems/ concerns with the growth of baby and the blood flow through the placenta so a bit worried at the moment.

Hows everyone doing? hope everyones ok?

peachygirl · 22/01/2007 12:36

Hi everyone, me and DH went for a walk today to get a paper and when we got back I went to the loo, there was quite alot of discharge and I got up to get a pad. When I got back to the loo there was what I think has to be a show. Jelly like with dark blood in it. More than just streaks/ tinge of blood but I don't think anything to worry about. No other twinges really going to see what happens in the next few hours before I ring anyone.
36 weeks today.

Cadbury · 22/01/2007 13:04

wow peachygirl! Could be kicking off though. I did hear that the show can come several days before anything else happens though but your body is certianly getting ready!

I'm feeling like my hormones are changing too - have broken out in spots, have lots of cervical mucus and I startd to leak collustrum yesterday (rather than just liquid).

Have spent the morning getting the nursery ready - making up the cot (and fixing it forst - honestly, dh's idea of building it included balancing the base on the fixings without actually securing it. And he hadn't cleaned it from when it was in the garage for the last 2 years!) and getting the moses basket togther. Feeling a bit more ready now. I thought, after all that exercion that I'd have a sit down now but I've just found a dirty bit under my bread bin and had to scrub that and the windows and window sills in the kitchen. Got a nasty feeling I'm nesting!

Had a scan on Friday to check that the baby was still in the right position - it was. Resisted the temptation to find out what sex we are having. Did get to see Baby's face - that was lovely. If I say so myself, s/he is a real beauty .

I'm getting a lot of the pelvic pains many of you have talked baout and the Braxton Hicks has concerned me with their severity too. I find that sitting/ rocking on a gym ball helps with those.

Now, Sorkycake - you are upping the ammount of sex you are having? Blimey! I'm just impressed you are having any!!! It takes a couple of big lads and a jcb to help me to turn over in bed so I just can't imagie how you are managing to get down and dirty! I have told dh that I'm willing to give sex a go as a last resort to get labour started if I go over my dates by too much, but I'd really rather not (bless him, my dh is a very patient man when I'm pg!)

MoosMa · 22/01/2007 13:31

Hmmm, I'm getting very with all of you having shows, BHs etc, I think I had a couple of BHs a few days ago but not sure, I didn't have them at all with DD1. Not really nesting that much either, now that the bedroom is ready I seem to have stopped there, we have the most enormous dust snakes under our bed but I just can't be bothered to hoover. Ho hum.

Hope you're ok Becs21 and Peachygirl, I wonder who will be first...? Perhaps we should start having a daily roll call to check everyone's still here!

Tommy · 22/01/2007 14:07

I love MN

we're all getting excited about what peachy found in the loo this morning!!!!!

(where else would that happen?!)

OOOhh - we're getting close aren't we?

Good luck peachy

bubblebell1 · 22/01/2007 14:32

hi everyone

laptop died so havnt posted in what feels like forever.

glad everyone is still ok and sorry to hear everyone feels as awkward and heavy as i do.

i do have some good news tho. my dr has finally booked me in for a cs and i will be having him on the 6th feb thats if nothing happens sooner.

cant belive how soon it is and i feel really nervous about the op. if anyone has any advice or experience i would love to hear from you xxx

TuttiFrutti · 22/01/2007 14:43

Bubblebell, I am having a cs on the 9th so our babies will be just 3 days apart! I had one last time and I can reassure you that it will be absolutely fine. Plan for your recovery - lots of pre-cooked meals in the freezer, and don't expect to be doing too much in the first few weeks!

sorkycake · 22/01/2007 14:49

Cadbury I think it's my hormones changing rapidly because last week he smelled funny and I nearly kicked him out of bed. Now, poor guy, I can't walk past him without going gooey. He doesn't know whether he's coming or going atm.
We thought it might be arriving today as I've had about 4-5 BH per hour since 6pm last night and the bump has dropped loads. Nada yet!
Baby movements are slowing in frequency too which is a good sign for me.
Nesting is driving me NUTS! In the words of Dh "who the hell is going to see behind the cupboards in the kitchen?" (I've removed the baseboards to vaccuum and mop under them).
The show could mean you're close Peachy, although could also mean it's a couple of weeks more too . Becs on the otherhand is who I've got my money on, cos' if her waters have been confirmed as broken they won't let her go more than 24 hours before whipping her in, so by tomorrow we might have another graduate.
Someone told me today I looked flushed and asked if labour was close (she's an ex-m/w) anyone heard of this?

peachygirl · 22/01/2007 14:50

Hi all nothing else seems to have happened.
I'm about to start some light cleaning ....I must get the bag properly packed and the moses basket sheets washed.
Yesterday we booked tickets to go to see Wicked next Tuesday and although I would be overjoyed to see baby befor then I will be a bit miffed at missing the show too.
I'm also going to go back to aqua natal tonight with an NCT friend.

OP posts:
bubblebell1 · 22/01/2007 14:57

yes snorky my mil isnt a midwife but has had 5 ds' said that looking flushed is a sure sign of labour. had never heard it before tho!!

sorkycake · 22/01/2007 15:38

Ooh I hope so! Both my last were late, so a little bit early would be good.

babydrivertoo · 22/01/2007 15:59

Can't wait to hear who's next - it's all getting very real now. Didn't know about the looking flushed thing before, but will look more closely in the mirror from now on. Definitely getting nesty now. I keep thinking, baby can't come yet as I haven't done everything but of course I never will so just have to do what I can. Certainly won't be hoovering/mopping behind the kickboards in the kitchen tho' .

Gearing up for arrival of my mum at the weekend, she's planning to stay for 2 weeks. Definitely a mixed blessing as DH and I like our personal space and privacy, but it will be handy having her here to look after DS who adores her.

Right, off to load up some more washing and do a bit more tidying...

MoosMa · 22/01/2007 16:30

I haven't heard of the flushed thing either but I did notice earlier that I looked a bit rosy, but I put it down to me not being anaemic anymore

On the other hand I've had looooads of KNUF today so maybe things will happen soon...

Ooooh I'm so excited for all of us now!

Sallyallyally · 22/01/2007 16:50

Blimey, isn't it getting exciting. Had loads of the signs everyone has described over past week, but still nothing . May become the only person on this thread wandering around with show/BH/KNUF/flushed cheeks and head so far down the pelvis I can nearly reach it's ears, but no baby before November 2008!

soundbites · 22/01/2007 16:55

Hello girls

Good luck Peachy and Becs. How exciting! I began to think I might have been on track for labour last night (10 days until due date) when I had the runs followed by loads of Braxton Hicks that I had to ease by rocking on the birthing ball. But it has all come to nothing ?

Thanks to those who advised on baby books as well as the tip to browse what the library has to offer. Much appreciated.

Met MIL for lunch today - I am so unused to being a lady who lunches and does coffee mornings! And just when I do get used to it a little bundle of joy will arrive and with it, all peace shattered!

Take care
xxx

Sallyallyally · 22/01/2007 17:10

By the way..has anyone got a nomination for 'comments most likely to upset a pregnant woman in the ninth month?'!! One of the mums at DD's school said to me this morning.." ohhh...that's a different shape from before the weekend..I'd say the heads moved back up...mind you it does look like a HUGE bump..could be that it's not going to fit so easily now it's grown...I was about the same size as you and Katie was 10lb 10oz and an emergency section" ...How wonderful!!!!!

bubblebell1 · 22/01/2007 17:24

lol at comments.. ppl dont think before they speak. i get christ it seems like you have been pregnant for ages!! i feel like saying yes i know im the one walking around with a large baby on the front of me

just wondered really i was always under the impression that with second pregnancies your baby wont necessarily engage until labour starts but im 38 weeks and lo has turned from breech and is completely engaged. is this normal could it be a sign or is it wishful thinking?

leahsmum · 22/01/2007 17:52

Def sounds like LO's arrival is close Becs21. I thought they only let you go 24 hours. Hope your mw appt went well this afternoon.
Peachy - good luck with your show, though apparently it can be a few days if not weeks after before anything happens but as some1 else already says at least your body is preparing - keep my fingers crossed for you!! Mind you with dd i had a show at night and had her the next afternoon - on saying that i was induced the morning after my show as I had pre-eclampsia.
I really need to get more organised - crib is built but no vests/babygros or sheets have been washed yet and my mum is insisting that the new ones need washed too. Whats everyone elses thoughts on this? Am I just being lazy?
Had some really sore BH's today in ASDA!
What is KNUF's?

leahsmum · 22/01/2007 17:54

Oh while I remember - is it just me or does anyone find that if you lie on your right side in bed you get really bad heartburn, but if you lie on your left side its really mild but mostly goes away?

Anyone else noticed this and if so any1 know why?

MoosMa · 22/01/2007 19:24

KNUF stands for Knitting Needles Up Fanny and describes the sharp pain in the cervix (or near by) that makes you wince and look like you're about to wee yourself!

Someone I used to work with's wife had her waters break a few weeks early and she was scanned and infection-tested daily until she had the baby about 2 weeks later so I guess as long as Becs is ok they'll let her carry on...
