Hi new year, new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
suzi2 · 20/01/2007 20:45

andyrobo - just realised that I'm wrong on the stats... I'm due 15th Feb.

The engaged thing is a confusing one. Some mw's write down the amount engaged, others write down the amount 'palpable' (i.e. that they can feel outside the pelvis). So unless you know which way your mw notates it it can be hard to know for sure. I think it's more common to write down the palpable bit than the engaged bit though.

suzi2 · 20/01/2007 20:49

Sorky - the huggies bag is given away with the Boots parenting club. IIRC, you get a voucher for it sometime around now if you're signed up. If you're not signed up, call Boots. much easier to call them than use the web thingy as I know that they often 'lose' those applications.

My birth pool arrived today... haven't got it set up yet. DH says he needs an electric pump as his wrists too bad to do it at the moment.

Glad my machine dye tip worked! I'm still amazed at my beautiful lilac things Would love to hear how the coorie works out - if it's good and easy I might rope y mum into doing one for me.

Alocin · 20/01/2007 21:19

hello all.

Just had a long chat with a friend of the family who is a midwife, and she has had several ladies recently who used the helios homeopathic kit, and had very positive labours where they only needed gas and air! Just ordered myself one!

MoosMa · 20/01/2007 21:19

Bumped into the mw while walking today, she's got my homebirth stuff and is coming to see me tomorrow morning - eek it's really getting close and I just remembered I haven't ordered the TENS thing yet... I wonder if I'm too late.

Yesterday was good though, I got some advice on car seats and have found one which fits our odd seats - it's a Concord one which goes backwards facing then forward facing - that's my birthday present sorted then!

I also got a wardrobe which I put together this morning (and my back is now complaining about it), DH has got all the necessaries down from the loft, now all I'm waiting for is for him to finish the edging on the floor and for the baby to arrive!

suis · 20/01/2007 21:29

Andyrobo - think you've got me and suzi2 mixed up in to 1 person, it's me that's Feb 11th ! Though I become more convinced by the day that it'll never go that far. !

suzi2 · 20/01/2007 21:33

lol - I reckon I'm not going to get that far either suis!

leahsmum · 20/01/2007 21:59

Andyrobo - I'm due Feb 14th - would you mind adding me? Thanks

I'm a bit of a lurker too - dont have much time with my very active 2 and a half year old. Going through a bit of a rough patch with her at the moment - I think she now realises how imminent LO's arrival really is and may be starting to feel a bit of pressure to perform to make sure she maintains her star position! I can see that this may be pretty tricky!! Any tips 3rd timers?
Not been too bothered with BH's but space is certainly getting tight in there as very painful when LO decides to move about - rather often might i add.
What do you do with the Huggies voucher - do you need to buy Huggies Nappies to get it? I have a voucher somewhere but not sure whether i can be bothered digging it out as I wasnt that keen on huggies nappies last time.

babydrivertoo · 20/01/2007 22:01

hi andyrobo, thanks for the update. BTW I'm the same person as babydriver - that name was just the one I used from my work email so you can just stick me down for 3 Feb.

Itching to know who'll be next. I've noticed BHs more this time than last and have had a few spells when I've wondered whether things were about to kick off but nothing's come of it. TBH, still don't feel ready as I'm enjoying this quiet time before the new arrival so feeling quite selfishly protective of it. Very aware of time ticking on though - eg saying at yoga that I was 38 weeks, when I started at 16 wks and that seemed a lifetime ago, and wondering how many more classes I'll make.

Have a good rest of the weekend all.

Tommy · 20/01/2007 22:17

feel like you leahsmum with the BHs getting painful.

Very sweet moment with DS1 (5) today though. I was sorting out a few baby clothes and he found a lovely cardigan that was knitted for him when he was born. He said "ah, look - it's so small! Will that fit the baby?" He was so excited

leahsmum · 20/01/2007 22:48

My DD has been v sweet about the baby too - i just think the past week or 2 she is realising how close and is poss starting to worry herself about its arrival. Bless her wee soul - she has her heart set on a little sister so it can be just like her. Not so sure though - she'll just have to wait and see. Think she may be a tad disappointed if its not what she is hoping for - mind you last week she decided she didnt want a baby anymore and instead would like a dog!!

bunny3 · 21/01/2007 15:50

hello, long time no see. I havent been around for ages, I tend to log on in the evenings but I've been too knackered by the time my 2 are in bed.

Plumpbump, congratulations on Jacob! Love the name.

I'm due on the 12th Feb but my mw thinks the baby is transverse so I may be in for a c-section this time. Hope not. I have had a show (first on new years eve and then again yesterday). No other signs of anything happening yet though.

MoosMa · 21/01/2007 18:26

The mw came to see me today and sotred out the homebirth stuff. All's well and the baby is LOL today, it's been a different way round the last 3 times I've been checked so I'm hopeful that it'll sort itself out when I start labour

Also Mum has found 2 shower curtains (1 unused) so I don't have to worry about the floor and DH has 2 enormous pieces of cardboard to put on top to make it more comfy/absorbent.

The little bedroom is all ready too, and I've just finished washing everything (the last sheet is tumble drying as I type) so I can relax and enjoy (ha!) the last few weeks now...

Who's going to be next........?

suzi2 · 21/01/2007 19:30

I'm 36+3 now and since 36wks I seem to have got very uncomfy all of a sudden. LOADS of period pain, backache and several uncomfy or painful BHs an hour! The last few nights I've been niggling so badly I've wondered if I was about to go into labour lol. I'm not quite ready yet... have a few odd jobs to do. And still need to shampoo the carpets and scrub the skirting boards to oblivion Part of me LOVES this nesting thing. As I'm usually fairly slobbish! But then it's also knackering being held to ransom by dirty things in the house.

SmudgeMum · 21/01/2007 19:36

Hope everyone had a good weekend. We went to the second half of an NCT course on Sat and it was great to meet up with some other people. After the course, we all went to the pub for 2 hours - I think we all felt we needed to make the most of it whilst we still can. i'm going to something on Tue where there will be someone with real nappies to have a look at. How much my life has changed - I'm excited by nappies!!

I agree with the rest of you saying it's odd that we've still not got any arrivals. it must be something in the water. I've been having a few pains and constant BH and keep wondering if this is it but so far nothing. I kind of want it all to start but also not. I'm worried that I will think it's all started and go to hospital and they'll tell me I'm being a wuss and to go home because nothing's happening! Not planning on doing anything tomorrow really. We had someone over for dinner today so a certain amount of tidying up and cleaning has happened. I'm def not nesting - the skirting boards can just stay dirty as far as I'm concerned!

andyrobo237 · 21/01/2007 20:02

Well I am glad I'm not the only one suffering with niggles and pains - m bumb has dropped even more and all movements are becoming painful! My back is sore very low down (that is how I started labour last time!), But I have been cleaning for an hour or so today off and on!!!

Went on a visit to the hosp - was quite amusing as we were the only second time round parents and we took dd with us so she could see where I will be going, etc! i was the one with the most questions - others were bothered about whether they could get a takeaway or McDonalds brought in, or any drink, etc!

Heading for a warm bath to try and ease the aches - on the countdown in work - 3 anda half days to go - off thurs and friday pm!!!

suzi2 · 21/01/2007 20:12

smudgemum I went to the hospital with DS asking them to stop the awful, endless, painful BHs... thinking I was being a total wuss. And was told I was 7cm dilated . Hope it's the same for you! I reckon if you think you're going to be a wuss, you'll do well. I was so worried that others thought I wasn't coping that I got on with it for far longer than I would have done otherwise.

TuttiFrutti · 21/01/2007 20:47

Shampoo the carpets and scrub the skirting boards Suzi2? Blimey, would you like to come round to our house??!

I haven't done anything like that yet, although I am taking unusual pride in clearing out some kitchen cupboards so maybe that's a start. Also we moved ds's bedroom this morning, which took ages but was strangely satisfying - cleared out lots of clothes which are too small for him.

He hates his new bedroom, of course, and completely refused to go to sleep at lunchtime . I am hoping this is just a blip and normal service will resume shortly, as I am going to need those lunchtime sleeps.

qsack · 21/01/2007 21:12

leahsmum - i can't guarantee my advice will work but we had no jealously issues with ds1 when ds2 was born. advice i was given was to remember that the newborn doesn't need your undivided attention all the time. i tried to use the time i was feeding as special us time other than that he was just in the room hanging out with all of us. also when people come and visit and undoubtedly will want to see the baby, ask them to say hi to your dd before they start cooing over the baby as the baby will be none the wiser but your dd will definitely notice. we also got a present for ds1 that was from his new brother and the only other thing i tried to do was not to use the newborn as an excuse for not being able to do things that we might normally do etc even if it was because of him so he didn't hold it against him. oh and one other thing i tried my hardest to keep our routine interms of playgroups, swim lessons etc as much the samee as it was before as possible, especially swimming as it was one on one time with ds1. lets hope it works for us again with ds3! good luck

snugglebumnappies · 21/01/2007 22:08

Glad to hear others are suffering (I don't mean that how it sounds, honest!) I have really started to feel this pregnancy over the last few days, feet and legs are aching like mad, back ache, SPD kicking in with a vengence and BH galore, especially when DD feeds. Nowhere near ready for baby yet, will be 35 weeks tomorrow, started shifting DH's stuff out of baby's room even though he will prob be in with us for at least 12 months! as I know if we don't do it now it will get worse and worse. DH has decided to take over half my office with all his computer stuff which has really annoyed me as I still have to try and run a buisness out of there and he doesn't work from home. Infact all he uses his bloddy computers for is playing sad war games with other sad men across the internet (I am sure he does more soldiering now than he ever did when he was in the army!), rant over.
Am looking for a place to buy funky fabric for triming a blind and curtains for the nursery, seen some fab prints on this site {http://www.hunkydoryhome.co.uk} I love the blue flamingos and the blue zoo print, so if anyone knows of anything like this please let me know.
It's good to hear the homebirths are coming together, who was it that was having a problem with "staffing levels" sorry my memory is so rubish at the moment, how are you getting on?

snugglebumnappies · 21/01/2007 22:09

I did the backward slash this time and my link still didn't work.

sorkycake · 21/01/2007 22:24

My pool keeps getting hijacked by two little swimmers and Dh at every available opportunity! hmmph!
We have painted the floor in the Nursery finally and are airing the room. The curtains are up and looking fab! I'm pretty much ready except for a few jobs and I also have the carpets to clean and my kitchen to do.
My bump is dropping slowly it seems, and I'm starting to get a few more BH with a lot more pelvic discomfort. Dh says he feels as if I tower over him in bed as I'm still sleeping sitting up, bless him.
I'm upping the sex from now on, which has pleased him, to try and get things going it's not exactly the same though it has to be said. I'm trying to savour every moment as I know we won't have any more after this, but it is hard when every moment results in a small amount of grunting and breathlessness. Still it'll be action stations soon.
Oh in true style both my oven and dishwasher have just conked out and the repairman can't come til tuesday and wednesday. We are lucky though since the cover on them runs out in 3 weeks for one and 6 weeks for the other!

suzi2 · 21/01/2007 22:52

snugglebum - after the backslash you have to write in what you want the link to say. Also you need to write \link at the start.

so it would be
\link(www.hunkydoryhome.co.uk\fabric)

and you would have a link on the word fabric

I've used real brackets so it doesn't work - stick with the wiggly ones.

Tommy · 21/01/2007 23:03

I'm so impressed with all of you being so prepared! I'm so unready for this baby it's scarey..... I wanted to pack a bag just in case I go into labour early and need to go to hospital, but I couldn't find the bag... Atelast I know where the nappies, vests and babygros are though.
We're still living in a bit of limbo as DH is still decorating our bedroom and he keeps moving things and not telling me where he's put them! It's got to get finished this week - then will becme as prepared as the rest of you...

leahsmum · 21/01/2007 23:05

Thanks for your advice qsack. I was planning those things but always reassuring for someone who has been there and done it to say it worked for them. I have already mentioned to a few people to try and make a fuss over dd when they arrive and ask her permission to look at the new baby - as she is so used to being the centre of attention whenever any1 walks through the door.
I know what you mean snugglebum - I've had SPD since approx 17 weeks and I am really in a lot of pain now. I had it in my 1st preg but not til last 32/33 weeks but this time it has been awful. Only thing that tends to ease it is a bath and we only have a shower so I have to go round to my parents house a few nights a week for some relief.
Ah well I'm 36+4 so hopefully not long now and I think my bump appears to have dropped slightly overnight - not sure if that actually means anything will happen soon though.
Any1 any knowledge of raspberry leaf tea? I'm sure i've seen it discussed on this thread before but memory is like mush these days. I started on it today but not really sure whats its meant to do.

leahsmum · 21/01/2007 23:09

Not to worry Tommy - I dont have the decorating excuse at the moment and I havent washed any baby stuff yet. Mind you we managed to get the crib built today which is a start.
I better get a move on right enough because unless I go before, we have a plasterer coming to remove the artex from our hall on the 3rd of Feb - really not liking that idea though - perhaps a bit close for comfort!
