Hi new year, new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
suzi2 · 22/01/2007 19:38

My goodness it's been busy here today! Becs best of luck. I think that some areas are happy to monitor you for quite a few days before induction if there aren't any risks of infection. But then most have you in in a day or two! Peachy, I was surprised at the blood when I had my show with DS. I had DS about 24 hours after my show, although I know a couple of people who had one early and then had to be induced! But it's a good sign!

sallyallyally - I do wish people would think before they speak too! I saw my GP last week for my asthma and when I mentioned in passing that I was going for a homebirth she said "oooh, you're brave!". I mean, what am i meant to take from that! I quizzed her a bit and I think she didn't even know what she meant lol.

Sorky - with you on the mad cleaning. I was like this for months with DS, and am the same this time. I remember finding it hard to have a dirty/untidy house when DS arrived so the hormones obviously stuck around for a wee while!

I thought baby was going to come last night too... I had BHs all evening, none too uncomfy though. But when I went to bed they were every 5 mins, strong and enough to wake me. Then I had the runs... and a quick panic check to see if I could feel my cervix lol. Couldn't - it's still miles away . I'm a serial cervix rummager near the end lol . Anyway, finally got to sleep about 2am when they died back. I'm pretty sure I was the same with DS at this stage.

Really not ready for her yet. Really want to get to 38wks to get my homebirth - am 36+4 just now. 40wks like DS would just be nice though.

andyrobo237 · 22/01/2007 19:43

I am convinced this Lo has the hiccups - it is driving me mad. And I am suffering with backache at the moment and feel out of sorts! All wishful thinking as got another 4.5 weeks left until due date, but getting so many twinges and rightenings I reckon I will be past ir be then! Also developed (whispers.....piles) and then had to suffer the embarassement of the chemist having to ask the phamacist if she could sell the pile cream to me! She said are you pregnant? Oh no I jsut carry a ball up my jumper for fun!!! And we then had a discussion about heartburn!! Just sell me the stuff and let me get on!

On a better note - only 2.5 days left in work - I finish at midday on friday!!! Got a baby shower at my friends tomorrow - if I can stay awake long enough!!!!

MoosMa · 22/01/2007 21:32

Suzi2 how do feel for your cervix and what are you feeling for? What's it supposed to do? I'm fascinated by how bodies work and love to keep an eye on things!

MrsJohnCusack · 22/01/2007 21:56

pah! 35+4 today and not a sign of anything ever.
and it's SUMMER here, was about 30 degrees yesterday - eurghhh. I am either going to be be pregnant for ever or give birth on the few days I don't want to (have an audition 3 days before due date)

still at least I don't have to try and get tights on.
Sounds like lots of you are quite close - good luck!

marmitemad · 22/01/2007 22:04

well more bad news from me I'm afraid, got back from a lovely meal and cinema last night at 9pm to find 2 broken windows and various missing items including the all important camera and my wedding and engagement rings (which I only took out of my purse on Friday as I was worried about loosing them). Had a bit of a hysterical moment then intermittantly cried and rocked (am desperate not to go into labour yet as I have a haircut/highlights and pedicure booked next week) for the next 3 hours while waiting for the police (who were worse than useless). we were apparently saved from loosing more stuff by the obsessive amount of locks (we live in a secluded bungalow so dh is a bit paranoid)on all the windows and doors which did not budge despite heavy duty attack.
I even went back into work this afternoon (officially finished on Friday) in an attempt to feel better although the jumbo packet of chocolate fingers has been more effective.
Very exciting to read everyone else's news, BHs and KNUFs are very uncomfortable tonight.

MrsJohnCusack · 22/01/2007 22:09

oh marmitemad that's awful, so sorry.
the total bastards

qsack · 22/01/2007 22:12

leahsmum- you asked about left and right side. i'm not totally sure but i know that as a rule if possible you're supposed to only lie on your left side in bed as there's some kind of main artery or vein that runs down your right side that can make it uncomfortable. that may be totally wrong but i always find left side more comfortable but don't know why it helps heartburn. so as it does i need to go lie down as my heartburn reached it's peak about 5 mins ago and so dh reached for the as yet unopened gaviscon to find it's out of date. can't believe it. what does anyone take for heartburn? i think i need to get something tomorrow as can't hack it anymore! 38 wks tomorrow and counting...

suzi2 · 22/01/2007 22:21

That's rotten marmitemad.

Leahsmum - lying on your left aids the flow of digestion, that much I know. So that's probably why your heartburn is better that way. gsack I'm living on gaviscon advance. Apparently, according to my GP and pharmacist the ADVANCE stuff is now most recommended in pregnancy as it has a lower dose of sodium per dose in it. Can't say it works any better! Get it on prescription or it costs you a fortune! I'm going through 600mls every couple of weeks at the moment.

Moosma... hard to explain this one! I'm used to sticking fingers up there and feeling my cervix as a way of measuring fertility. So I think it helps that I sort of know what I'm feeling IYSWIM. Bascially, when I'm pregnant my cervix is so high up that I can't even feel it though I'm sure this isn't the same for everyone. I have short fingers lol. Once I can feel it, I reckon that's when I'm close to giving birth. MUST be said that hygiene is V important here. As sticking your fingers places they shouldn't go a lot could introduce infection.

Bet everyone thinks I'm well weird now

forgottenfreetime · 22/01/2007 22:24

Hi everyone, really sounds like a few people are quite close now. My waters broke early at 36+3 days Becs and although they kept me in overnight they did say that because it was before 38 weeks they would let me carry on without intervention as long as there was no infection. A low burning pain sounds like infection to me though so praps you're not going to be reading this or posting for a while?!

Moosma there is a thread somewhere (a recent one) about feeling for your cervix - quite useful if you're not squeamish in determining whether your body is even ready for labour. Think it might have ben in 'childbirth' or praps pregnancy (she says no help at all!).
I've had an up and down weekend. DH is quite fed up and stressed with work at present and we had a bit of a row and it made me more upset tham usual. Then I got to thinking that the baby was too quiet and panicking IYKWIM. So didn't sleep partic well last night and no exhausted. Also quite fed up with my work and so ready to leave on Weds. Still only 2 days to go and then I won't have to worry about what I haven't done and all my colleagues can just get on with it. I am amazed at how selfish I am with this pg - was much more concened about leaving things 'tidy' at work last time and then of course did not get the chance since DS came early. Hope all the discomforts are shortlived and we either have our babies or have a bit of a lsat minute blooming and glowing phase! Well there's always hope eh?

peachygirl · 22/01/2007 22:27

Hi again, still nothing .. I haven't had lots of Bhs so I think it's not going to come in the immediate future (watch those be famous last words )
I am aware that a show can come weeks in advance to anything else. I see the GP on Wed so will obviously mention it then.
leahsmum there was a bit of chat about washing a while ago on here. I think the general agreemant was yes, wash everything. Someone said that shops put chemicals in new stuff to make them look good (sorry can't remember who)
marmitemad OH NO, I am so sorry that's the last thing you need.
Wow becs you seem to be nearer to B day than all of us. Keep us posted.

peachygirl · 22/01/2007 22:32

cervix thread
I think this is the one. I know a little about it for fertility but I haven't had a feel yet.. maybe at bedtime..

OP posts:
MrsJ · 22/01/2007 23:22

Hi, with the washing thing, at my recent antenatal parenting class thing the midwife there actually advised to wash everything particularly new stuff because of chemicals in the fabric.
Hope this helps

xx

MrsJohnCusack · 23/01/2007 01:49

def wash everything - nasty chemicals on new clothes

have just been to the midwife and as I vaguely suspected baby is 2/5 engaged (WHY I thought 2nd babies didn't usually engaged) so his head is bouncing nicely on my bladder

So I shall be spending the next 4/5 weeks mainly on the loo, just like last time

soundbites · 23/01/2007 08:40

Marmite - horrid news. Sending lots of hugs and lots of virtual / cyber chocolate fingers ?
xxx

MoosMa · 23/01/2007 09:31

Oh Marmite how horrid, we were burgled when I was 30 weeks with DD1 and it was very stressful, we also lost our camera so have very few photos of DD in her first 2 months. Is there anyone you can borrow one from? Sad about your rings too, mine aren't worth that much but I would be devastated if I lost them Hope you get it all sorted soon.

SmudgeMum · 23/01/2007 09:48

Wow everyone, we're all certainly hotting up with the posting. Marmitemad I'm so sorry to hear about your break in. Just when you probably want to get everything sorted. More virtual choc fingers on the way! Did you joing Boots parentingclub? I'm sure there was a voucher in there for money off a disposable camera (short term measure I know) If you want it I might be able to find it.

I agree with Tommy - isn't MN great that we're sharing excitement over mucus!!!!

nothing happening here but I'm quite excited that I've got something planned for every day this week. It's taken me 4 months of living here desperately trying to meet people and the last week it all seems to have come together.

Good luck everyone - and did anyone find their cervix last night?

peachygirl · 23/01/2007 10:22

In the end I didn't have a look for the cervix last night. I lost a little more mucous (But I think this was linked to straining on the loo )
I'm off to have a bath in a bit so will try then. Have a good day everyone I will probably be around today as we are waiting for the pram delivery. Woo Hoo

snugglebumnappies · 23/01/2007 11:02

Marmite, so sorry to hear your news, it's the last thing you need at the moment, people can just be down right horrible can't they.

Re checking cervix, if it feel (if you can feel it as I have verry short fingers and need to be in advanced labour to check mine!!) and it feel hard like the end of your nose, then labour will prob be a while off where as if it feel like your cheeks then it has started to soften ready for labour and if it feel as soft as your lips then that is very promising! It will also start to effece (go from a long thin tube to flat, but if you don't chek it regularly then you have nothing really to compare it to!) I looked after a client once who was used to checking her cervix regularly as use it as a mehod of family planning, towards the end of her preg I got regular text updates on what her cervix was up to, it was really useful as we kinda knew when things were about to happen!

Starting to nest a bit now, want to make a blind but am crap at all things creatibe (did recover the piano stool the other week and was soooo proud of myself when really a monkey could have done it!) and have found some of the blue zoo fabric on an American site that will ship to the UK at £25 for 4 meters including p&p which is great. Also need a chest of drawers as have a wardrobe which DS used and also DD but found it a bit hopeless with little baby bits so gonna stick it in the loft till he is older. Bought a changing ubit (never used one before as so used to changing babies on my knee, but really needed somwhere to store coth nappies for two children, had been looking on eBay but they all seemed to be going for £40-50 plus p&p, when I popped into Mothercare last week they were selling off their beech playbead ones fot £50 so snapped one up PDQ.

Now just waiting to hear back from mw re scan for presentation as this babe does not give many clues, last night I thought he was a posterior fran breech but this morning it's anyones guess, I am pretty sure he isn't changing position, just holding himself so it is difficult to palpate, had so many mws try and not be sure that I need to know for deff before trying to get hime to shift.

Also sat in all day (drives me and DD mad) waiting for a delivery, managed to get a bedside crib on eBay for £55 and really pleased as the company has stopped making them and the bedsied cot they we have takes up so much space on my side of the bed that it's a nightmare trying to get out of bed for a wee in the middle of the night!

12yeargap · 23/01/2007 11:21

Time to moan...been off work last week with a fluey-type illness, never felt so ill in my life...now back at work, but still not right, and feeling so tired I could cry! still another two weeks to go at work, due 20/2. And car is out of action, so I'm on the bus.

House is a grubby tip because we've all been ill, and probably smells faintly of dog shit because the dog's been ill too.

Don't see how I'm ever going to be ready for this baby.

leahsmum · 23/01/2007 11:24

That's awful Marmitemad .
The boots voucher is for a free disposable camera. I collected mine yesterday along with my Huggies Changing bag - must admit I am quite impressed!
Think I will take the safe option then and wash everything - my mum washed everythign for me when I was preg with DD as i refused to have any baby stuff in my own house before she was born but been a bit more relaxed about it this time.
I tried to feel for my cervix this morning but not felt for it previously so really dont have anything to compare to.

Sallyallyally · 23/01/2007 12:15

If DH or DP is game, they may be in a..ermm..better position for cervix hunting! (Suggest miners torch, KY and packed lunch!)
Non labouring cervix can be a bugger to find as it will be tucked up behind babes head and possibly off to one side. Bit of a skill even for experienced midwife! However, as labour starts, the cervix becomes more central and easier to reach. Suggest you have fun fumbling around..be warned however my DH had a bit of a shock when he was unable to find cervix but instead felt a small (!) head pulsating and wriggling through vaginal wall!! Once head is nice and low this will be fairly easily felt through skin etc.

Large homemade chocolate cakes to those of you who are having a bad time...and the same to those who aren't as no one should miss out on cake!

snugglebunny · 23/01/2007 12:44

CRUMBS this thread moves quickly!! Miss a day or two and your'e lost - cant even find when I last posted!

36+3 today and feeling really rough! Horrible groin pain - feel like I've aged 50 years in a week!

DH away so staying with friends unti he's back (just incase LO decides to make an early appearance). Getting lots of practise with friends 3 month old - cant wait!!

TuttiFrutti · 23/01/2007 13:12

Sorry to hear your news Marmite.

I've been getting lots of niggles but I think it's just the baby moving, and it's stretching my skin so much now that every movement is painful.

My SIL gave birth last night - I can't quite believe it as I spoke to her on the phone at 9pm and she wasn't in labour then, and apparently the baby was born at 1am! Quick work - if only they were all like that!!!

peachygirl · 23/01/2007 13:18

The pram has arrived and we have unpacked it.. It's lovely...
I'm off for a bath (didn't have one last night realised how late it was and will try a bit of checking. I have short fingers nut did find it once or twice when doing the natural familiy planning
