Hi new year, new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
bubblebell1 · 02/01/2007 17:45

also my placenta is posteria and low lying around 4 cms from opening i think. so my lo is still breech, that isnt reason for my cs tho. just wondered if baby would turn, midwives seem to think that because of the position of placenta there is not enough room for my babies rather large head.

suis · 02/01/2007 19:56

Probably seems like a dumb question, but... I was just starting to pack my hospital bag and it occurs to me that I should wash all the things for the LO before use... shouldn't I ? I don't know if washing is worse as it give early exposure to detergents, or whether leaving them in the packs is worse because I don't know if they will be scratchy ?

(Good God, I never thought I would find myself worrying about such things. )

suzi2 · 02/01/2007 19:56

peachy - I went to school with a girl called Nova. I haven't heard it since. She was a nice girl so I have always liked it as a name.

peachygirl · 02/01/2007 20:10

I was going to wash stuff first suis in fact I have some in the washing basket ready to go in. It seems quite a big step to take, making it all very serious .. and this is coming from the woman who still hasn't ordered the pram yet!
My aunty actually knows two Novas suzi

Come on what are everyone elses name choices????

Good news Tommy and how exciting you have your date Tutti frutti fingers crossed for you bubblebell1

I seem to have been on alot today .. but back to work tomorrow (sigh) 13 days to go til the leave begins.

Evening! I decided to look at the old stats thread list and make a list of who was active on this thread - to see when we are all due to go over to the other side!!! There are a few missing dates - wasn't doing to trawl through lots of old threads to find the answers - you can do that for me by giving me your latest due date! There appears to be at least 28 of us in here regularly (well in Dec) - so apologies to anyone missed - add your details to the thread and I will update every few days! It is scary to think in the next 10 weeks we will all have bundles of joy!!!!

andyrobo - you can fix my date as the 15th. Although I personally reckon that's nowhere near

snugglebumnappies · 02/01/2007 20:54

Hi to everyone, nice new thread! Just wanted to say a big thank you to all who were very sympathetic with my pre Christmas downer! Especially to Suzi2, Bubble, Tutti, Peachy (I will be in touch for the Christmas symbols for DS for next year, thanks!)Sallyally, Sorky, Suis and Plump. Am feeling much better, have decided to change transfer units so wil get my m/w to write to the new one asap. DS had a great Christmas despite getting over stimulated on a number of occassions! and DD was a wonder as she is old enough now(21 months) to enjoy it all. I had a bit of a crappy time pain wise, spent most of the week with pretty strong contractions on and off, kept thinking I was going to end up in hospital, anyway settled after a week but bump has dropped dramatically so a bit worried he has now engaged and is deff still breech!!!! Aghhh gonna have a hard time shifting him if he has engaged.
Thanks for the info about Two Left Feet everyone (have been reading just not posting) I was going to order new car seat from there as I did get a Tripp Trapp highchair for DD from there and the service and delivery was good, however you have put me off and have ordered it from elsewhere. As it is I did email TLF about a Jane Powertwin that I was thinking of buying from them and they nevergot back to me, seeing as the order would have been worth about £900 I guess they don't need my money!

Alocin · 02/01/2007 21:09

Andyrobo - my due date is 18 Feb (although by my dates, 11 Feb). And I want to call him Patrick, although my Irish husband objects - says we may as well call him Bogtrotter!

SmudgeMum · 02/01/2007 21:53

Happy New Year everyone. Well done for starting a new thread peachy. We had a lovely New Year with friends and I didn't miss the alcohol too much - certainly didn't miss the hangover!!

Had m/w appointment today and she said she couldn't tell which way up the baby was. Considering I've been told it's been head down for the last 2 times I've been and was 3/5 fixed 3 weeks ago I don't know that it's likely that it will have changed. The m/w is quite young and not very experienced so I've decided that she's just booked me in for a scan to be sure (please don't burst my little bubble anyone, I'm happy thinking that it's all a mistake I'm booked in for a scan on Thursday so we'll know more then. She said though that if it is breech then they'll book me in to try and turn it manually - anyone know what that entails? Do I have to do a headstand followed by slow rollypollys?? If so, there's not much chance because it's all I could do today to get up off the sofa - whoever warned about sofas sucking you into them was soooooo right

Re washing baby clothes - definitely wash new ones because the manufacturers put chemicals on new clothes to make them look nice. I think you're supposed to wash clothes in non-biological powder too. I get eczema and need to wash all my clothes before I wear them and always use non-bio anyway so I am just putting baby clothes in with our normal wash.

Saying that, I read somewhere that it's an idea if you've got new clothes to only take the labels off a few of the newborn and wash them because then if you have a big baby, you can take them back to the shop and swap them for bigger sizes.

thanks for doing the stats thread andyrobo. It sounds like some of these little treasures might be here even before the end of this month.

Hope everyone's colds start to improve. Apologies for long post but it has been a while for me with no internet!!

DrJo · 02/01/2007 22:16

Andyrobo - pencil me in for 13th Feb - I'm hoping it won't be sooner (CS if still breech at 38 weeks) - but given DS's timing it is more likely to be the end of Feb (15 days late

Smudgemum - manual turning is called an ECV (can't remember what it stands for). It involves the consultant pushing the baby's head round from the outside - not as bad as it sounds. They did it for my DS and it was not painful at all - Just like the baby turning by itself but with a helpful prod in the right direction. Unfortunately they won't do it again for me because I've had a section - they'd rather go for another section instead. Hope all goes well at the scan.

thelittlestboho · 02/01/2007 22:31

Andyrobo - my due date is supposedly 15th but I seriously doubt it. I had to pluck my LMP date from thin air due to fact that a) I never pay attention to such things, and b)I had an immaculate conception, no joke, lol! The early scans I had seemed to verify this but I'm not at all convinced. I know this baby is too big to just be 34weeks, a rough measurement of her leg comes out at 27cm But we'll see, I guess.

Peachy - I love your choice of names, very Bohemian, haha. Our LO will be called Noa, (we know 100% that she's female, due to amnio), I'm letting my dd2, (who's 12), pick her middle name, which as of this moment is undecided but no doubt will be complimentery to her.

Re- Hospital bag, I'm not really organised but tbh, I'm intending to be out of hospital asap after the birth. Cannot abide the thought of being in a ward, last two times I've been fortunate enough to have a bit of privacy in a private room, but don't think that will happen this time, so I'm outta there.

It's all so exciting that soon we'll be able to put our pants/socks/shoes on without grunting like a warthog. I had to get dp to help me up from dd's beanbag today, as there was no way I could have done it on my own, lol. Ah the joys!!

forgottenfreetime · 03/01/2007 00:12

Hi everyone, Andy my due date is 27th Feb. I did sort out some stuff today and put it in the wash. I'm hoping that I'll get to 37 weeks and have a home birth so I'll only need a hospital bag if baby is earlier. Ive put ds1's littlest babygros in my bag - 5lbs. Sooo tiny and even these were too big for him at the time. DH had to rush out and buy everything the morning after birth since so unprepared last time. Agree with advice not to wash too many - we got given literally hundreds of things, mostly clothes, when our first was born. I'm afraid to say that I took loads of gifts back and exchanged them for bigger sizes in the end - most shops were happy to do this. Felt guilty about it since they were gifts but also felt uneasy about having such an 'overprovided for baby' when there's so much poverty in the world. Made a donation to Oxfam in place of all the clothes that we would have had to buy later on that we then didn't need to. Be glad to hear about anyone's homebirth preparations or experiences if anyone has done it before.

snugglebumnappies · 03/01/2007 08:39

HI forgotten, I am planning a homebirth but not due till end of Feb, third baby so I'm pretty relaxed about it, have booked a pool (did that even before I had decided what sort of care I was going to have!) and need to pay the balance on this by Jan 20th, I guess then it will all start to feel real. Other than that haven't bothered with much, but the you don't need much anyway! Have some old shower curtains and duvets ready to pad out the floor under the base of the pool as we have wooden floors and that can be a killer on the knees. I have ordered a pool with a filter and a heater as I can use it to relax in prior to the birth and not have to empty it of water everytime. Have a super dueper all singing all dancing fridge that makes ice so I know I will have that to hand, oh and have some straws in also. Nearer the time I am going to stock uo on food that I like, no point doing it now as it will get eaten. Will prob use aromatherapy oils but have my own kit as this is something I am trained in and have a homeopathic birth kit, didn't use it much last time as I forgot it was there! This time my midwife is trained in homeopathy so will prob use it more. I do need to pack a back incase I transfer into hosp but only putting the bear minimal in there as DH can bring along the rest of my stuff, I am guessing that if I d transfer it will be for a c/s as I had a c/s last time I have decided that I want a purely natural birth and if there are any complications or my labour stops then I will have a c/s rather than have it augmented with drugs etc. The best thing is that my best friend will deff be able to attend my birth (she was my m/w last time but ended up opting out of NHS care last time as they put a lot of pressure on both of us not to go through with being my carer) as she is having a long awaited op at end of Jan so will be off work for a good while. So how are your plans going?

Forgot to say in last post, tried out my natal hypnotherapy CD and hated it!!! Hope things get better as I was counting on this to help me relax but the woman's voice made me feel so tnse I had to stop the CD after 25 mins!

As for baby clothes, got a feeling mine won't be a small one.....unless it's prem as DS was 9lb and DD 8lb 11oz, did the same thing with DS in buying newborn clothes and they didn't fit him but all had been washed so couldn't go back! With DD I bought nighties/bundlers with are long cotton jersey (same material as most sleepsuits) nightdresses that have an elesticated or drawstring bottom, much easier for changing nappies as no confusing poppers and ever so cute. At the time Mothercare sold them but don't seem to do so any more but places like Cut 4 Cloth, Daisy and Tom and Gap have the odd one in.

MrsJohnCusack · 03/01/2007 08:46

oh thanks for including me on the stats even though I hardly ever post on this thread - just lose track of it so quickly
Still on for 23 Feb, although I wouldn't mind a bit sooner - baby feels really large, and my first was 9lbs 14oz, so I am a bit worried BUT don't want to be induced again if at all possible (in fact have got into a flap over the birth, very nervous all of a sudden).
Actually I am totally fed up at the moment, SPD has got much worse over the last 2 weeks and today I can hardly move. also seem to have started with Carpal Tunnel in my wrists which is hampering my clarinet practice for the audition I'm supposed to do 3 days before due date (HA HA HA)....and very tearful this week. No idea why, except probably just sore and knackered. can't be cheerful about anything!

anyhow, glad to hear everyone's news. Who's going to be first then?

TuttiFrutti · 03/01/2007 09:26

"Who's going to be first then?"!!! OMG, I can't believe we have got to that stage already but yes, probably at least one of us will give birth before this month is out.

Bubblebell, I am 33 weeks now, will be 39 weeks to the day on 9th Feb.

Does anyone else have a back to back baby? Ds was always anterior (his back to my front) but this time round the baby is facing forwards, and its little limbs kick right through my tummy!

bubblebell1 · 03/01/2007 09:34

hi everyone.

i washed all my baby clothes and bed linen etc. just because my smell is working over drive and new clothes seem to have a horrile pong

my lo will be called harvey eric and i am due on 8th feb altho will be sooner as am supposed to be having a cs. that maybe end of jan.

hope everyone is ok.

Babe · 03/01/2007 11:15

Snugglebumnappies - is your hypnotherapy tape by Justina O'Leary? Mine is and the way that she says 'Loose and lump' instead of 'limp' makes me lose all concentration - it will be HER fault if I feel any pain during labour (only joking). Oh and 'wonder-fully com-ftable' is annoying too.

I've been reading and not posting too like some of you others - thank you everyone who DID actually post and make me feel better - I've been up and down like an emotional yoyo and have just started to worry about the birth (due anywhere between 7th and 14th depending on who you talk to). Although I am counting on it being quicker this time as it is my second. Apparently it just shoots out...

soundbites · 03/01/2007 14:15

Hello all - much overdue post. Glad to hear you all got through Christmas and New Year ? although sorry to hear that some of you had a bit of a rough time. Crazy that such a lovely holiday time can bring out the worst in all the relatives.

I am at work until 12 January by which time I will be just over 37 weeks. I hope I don't have too long a wait after that. I have my hospital bag virtually packed now and I think everything else is as organised as it can be for now.

Saw the midwife at the birthing centre last night which means I have done the regulatory two appmts for them to allow me to have the baby there (provided it doesn't arrive before 37 weeks and that all is ok, of course. We have been told it is not breech.)

We are really excited as the time is getting closer and the turn of the year was quite momentous, thinking that 2007 is the 'year of our baby'! I am even hoping it will be born in January which it could well do being due on 1 Feb. (thanks for the stats list btw). Might be in the running for first!

Take care all of you.

KatPoo · 03/01/2007 15:02

Hello, am due in feb too; 16/02 same as a few of you.

Trying to finalise babies name!!! Nightmare!
We know he is a boy - scan & amnio confirmed this. Our eldest son is called 'Zak' and our second born has been really difficult to decide on. For a while we were going with Xavier (pronounced zay-vee-er) but hisband decided he has gone off that! We are now thinking 'Kai' - am worried it is too similar to Zak? What do you think?

Looking forward to finishing work - just 3 weeks to go!!! Hurray

Hoping baby is in a better position at midwife appt today bt think he is still lying across.

Bye for now
Katherine

suzi2 · 03/01/2007 16:14

snugglebum - I reckon we're having the same thoughts. I had have A LOT of painful BHs lately and now feel that my bump has dropped and I've started waddling. But I'm sure she was breech so hoping she hasn't settled! Mind you, since DS didn't get past 2/5ths in before birth there should be room enough for her to turn...

Regarding the homebirth - I still haven't done anything in prep. I was going to buy an inflatable pool. I can't justify the expense of hiring a heated one I don't think. If baby is still breech the hb is out the window anyway. And I'm currently trying to get things finalised to be 'allowed' to give birth in water at home. So it may get little use. But then I keep thinking if I hired a heated one then I'd get some 'jacuzzi' use out of it first! Do you mind me asking what you paid? The cheapest I can find is £200 for 4 wks.

Oh, my natal hypnotherapy is quite good... I like the relaxing bit but find it hard not to chuckle when she says "vagina" and "perenium" in such a voice

MoosMa · 03/01/2007 16:25

TuttiFrutti, my DD1 was ROP and this one is OP now as well. I have been told that 2nd ones are more likely to turn during labour so I'm trying not to worry, but if you want there's some good advice on my thread here .

I saw the mw today and it's all doom and gloom! I have SPD and thrush, lo is OP, and now I have to have a growth scan as I only measure 30 weeks (I'm 33+4). Also lo is 3/5 engaged already and being my second that's making me a bit nervous - I really don't want a prem 4lb-er! The scan will be this week or next week so for now I have to rest a bit and try not to worry - ha!

Does anyone have any experience with growth scans, what they look for and what they do with what they find? The silly thing is, I hardly put on any weight for ages, then in the last 4 weeks (since last appt) I've grown 5lbs and lo hasn't grown at all! Now I feel guilty that I'm starving her but I can't do much about it as I'm already eating as much as I can... Please think lots of fat thoughts for me and lo and get us growing!

Worry worry worry...

MoosMa · 03/01/2007 16:26

Oh, and I'm due on the 16th Feb

titchy77 · 03/01/2007 17:10

i had my m/w today too and on my notes under the heading "fifths palpable" my m/w wrote 4/5. i take it this means 4/5 engaged?am unsure?? bit worried too as being my second didn't think they engage till the end!

CurrantBun · 03/01/2007 17:21

Blimey, I haven't even thought about my hospital bag. At what stage should I get it ready? Am 32+2 so didn't think I really needed to worry about it for another 3 weeks or so. Also - dumb question from a first-timer - what should I put in it?

Re. baby clothes, I bought a pack of bodysuits yesterday in newborn size (up to 7lb). I'd be surprised if bubs is any bigger than that at birth, as I am tiny and was tiny at birth (5.5lb) and hubby isn't that big and neither is anyone in his family. But I guess you never know! Hadn't actually planned to wash anything before using it - do I really have to? Just means I can't take anything back if I wash it first.

Names-wise, we haven't fully decided although we have a shortlist for each:

Boy: Kit, Toby, Thomas or Gabriel.
Girl: Megan, Milly, Molly, Tilly or Eleanor.

Probably won't finally decide until it's actually born!

Am lucky to still be feeling quite comfortable and am still sleeping well with no additional pillows/support. Baby doesn't seem to kick me at night which is fab - it kicks pretty much all the time otherwise though! Not looking forward to going back to work next week though, even though I only have another 4-5 weeks to go depending on when I decide to call it a day. Have got used to getting up later and 6:30am will be a real shock to the system on Monday!

Ordered our cot today from the Glasgow Pram Centre which should arrive Saturday. We finally went ahead with our order from Two Left Feet - I tried to cancel but they informed me that most of order was in and offered me a further discount not to cancel. We picked it up in person - I don't think they mean to be as bad as they are; they are just hopelessly disorganised and don't have enough staff. We had to wait about 45 minutes at the warehouse while everyone scurried around locating the various bits of our order. Still waiting for car seat base and footmuff but they can't seem to tell me when the stock will arrive. A bit annoying but at least we have the majority of the items and can get the other things elsewhere if it gets too close to the due date. Wouldn't use them again though.

snugglebumnappies · 03/01/2007 17:36

Babe, no my hypnotherapy stuff is by Maggie Howell, am going to give it another try but just felt so tense at the sound of her "relaxing" voice that I got annoyed with myself, it also says to listen to at a time when you wouldn't normally be asleep, thats a laugh with a 21 month old and a 12 year old with special needs, if I had the chance I would be asleep all day!

Suzi2 I paid £340 in total which was a discounted rate as I am a midwife and met the owner at a confernce. Where did you see the pool at £200, I rented a heated pool last time and dispite not going through with my HB plans as DD was breech and I decided to have a vaginal breech in hospital, I used it every day to help with SPD discomfort so would reccomend one fully. As it is this time I have decided to stay at home even if baby is breech, but am lucky that I have an IM so this is not an issue to them.

Moosma I would say it is normal for babe to measure a little smaller for dates on fundal height if they have started to engage this early, after all 3/5th of the head is in the pelvis so she isn't feeling this abdominally.

Titchy, 4/5 palpable means that 1/5 of the head is in the pelvis and the other 4/5ths are palpable abdominally.

Right off to cook tea for everyone, feeling quite upbeat today!!!
