This one seems to be the winner, and I can't seem to come up with anything more inventive, sorry!

oh - that sounds intereseting. What is the link to Lulumamas doula website? I've heard that MW only visit one time when you have had the baby, and Health visitors are few and far between also, so am interested in doulas as an alternative in after care.

lulumama · 12/01/2007 17:37

my website

thanks for the interest

midwife should visit for several times during first 21 - 28 days, then you are in the hands of the HV...mine is excellent, some less so

a post natal doula will do all the things that you want doing...whether it be shopping, cooking, hoovering, ironing, or looking after LO while you rest ! anything basically, that you want !

no midwife or HV i know does that ! LOL!!

each birth is different for each woman....banish negativity and welcome the birth....you know you can do it ! 3rd time lucky after all !

out for the evening..try not to give birth while i;m gone ! xx

Lizzzombie · 12/01/2007 18:26

Thanks lulumama - your website does look great, too bad you are at the other end of the country! Plus, Brighton prices mean a doula during the actual birth isnt really viable unfortunately.

I couldnt see the parts about visualising opening flowers etc though. Please can you direct me to that when you get a moment, and I will give it a try. Am trying very hard to stay positive, but the more overdue I go the harder it becomes.
40+5 today, according to EDD. Have induction booked for 40+11 but I really really want to have the baby before then. So am willing to try just about anything. (apart from curry - the heartburn will out weigh any consequence!) x

Lizzzombie · 12/01/2007 18:30

woah! my baby has hiccups (again!) but as his head is further down into my pelvis it feels like I am farting. This is the weirdest feeling ever.
Just had to share that!

looshkin · 12/01/2007 18:47

Hello all

Lizz re paternity leave and pay is that legal?????

I saw the consultant today and had sweep, 1-2 cm dilated and 50% effaced and cervix not quite so posterior so all the pains must be doing something pleeeeeease. Had a trace which was also fine. had some bleeding after a sweep but seems to have settled now. The consultant has decided to leave me until term +14 until being induced which is next thursday so day before my 30th birthday!!!! but hopefully will do something in the meantime - she made my dh blush by ordering him to have sex with me over the weekend - he was a little mortified!!!!

So off to bounce on the old birthing ball some more and mass sympathy to all with heartburn.

Loosh

lulumama · 12/01/2007 20:53

Lizzombie...Doula uk have a hardship fund available for women who cannot afford but could benefit from a doula...also, as a trainee,, i would consider working for less than the price quoted ,as long as i cover expenses to start with, as i need the experience too! worth asking around.......other trainees might consider it too..especially if very keen !

the visualization part is not on the website..but it is a tip i have offered here many times.....

to get into the mindset of a good labour, it is useful to visualize something ....i chose the image of my cervix opening and dilating . like a flower blooming from bud to open flower ( my first labour stalled and i didn;t dilate and that seemed an appropriate image to focus on.....) just choose something that works for you , and a place to go in your mind when you are in labour

and visualising baby moving down , nestling down into the pelvis, ready for birth..all positive ....negative thoughts to be banished and replaced with positive.....

choose an image personal to you , can be whatever you need it to be as long as it is comfortable for you

HTH

trixymalixy · 12/01/2007 21:31

haven't been on for a few days as DH has been working on the laptop in the evenings and everything seems to have kicked off while i've been away!!

Congrats to everyone who has had their LOs and good luck to Wilkie and Galmum and anybody else in labour!!

Was on a tour of the hospital last night. Can you believe that you're not allowed to give birth in the birthing pools, they hoist you out when you're fully dilated!!!

2Happy · 13/01/2007 08:20

I should like to announce.......

that I actually got some sleep last night!!! Ok it was broken into several small segments, but at least it was sleep. Damn, I'd forgotten what that felt like. Went to bed clutching gaviscon like a small glass comforter, but heartburn wasn't so bad - suspect it was dh's birthday cake that set it off the night before, lol!
Lizzz - loved the description of baby hiccuping!
Trixy - looks like it may just be you and me for the 21st club, Wilkie's gone very quiet so presume she has traitorously abandoned us Seriously, hope everything ok there and with Galmum too.
Loosh - that's great news from the sweep! (I meant the cervix, not the enforced nookie ) Still haven't decided about this ruddy wedding, and it's only this afternoon! But if we're in the area and the sweep hasn't started things off for you we could drop in for a (v quick) cuppa tomorrow?
If we do go to the wedding, I'll be offline until tomorrow - that'll be the only reason I'm offline, not something exciting like I'm having a baby or anything

Daisypops · 13/01/2007 08:33

Hi ladies,

Our beautiful baby girl, Starla Niamh arrived on 10 January at 10.49pm and weighed 7lb.

Hope everyone else is ok.

Galmum · 13/01/2007 09:53

Hi all,

Tried to read what's been going on but there's been too much chat! Hope everyone is well.

Jemima Rose arrived on Thurs 11th (37+5 weeks) weighing a meagre 10lbs 8oz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All went well - gory details to follow - let's suffice to say I did n't breathe this LO out - OMG - it took some work.

A gorgeous sister for our gorgeous little boy Digby, who we are missing so much at the moment. xxxx

laughalot · 13/01/2007 10:36

Congrats daisy and what a lovely name.
Galsmum you have made me sit and cry I cant beleive I dont know you but you have shown so much courage wih the loss of a much loved ds I just hope that your dd will bring you so much happiness and joy and that she grows up to be a strong and healthy little girl, I no she will never replace your ds but I hope she has filled a little gap with the pain your feeling right now I have a ds who 2.5 and iv been telling my dh about your situation and my dh cant beleive what a strong person you are I guess its a case of having to be for the sake of your relationship etc. Im sure your ds will be looking down on his mummy, daddy and new baby sister and sending loads of kisses he must have been sending something as she was a wopper. Love to all and you keep being that strong and wonderfull person that you are xxxxxxxx

Wilkie have you popped yet ?

Congrats to Daisy and Galmum! well done to both of you

becks5109 · 13/01/2007 11:29

Well done Daisy and Galmum - beautiful names too!

Galmum you so deserve to be having a wonderful time right now - you really are an inspiration and like others have said are so strong and positive.

Had the night from hell with DD1 last night - she kept waking up and so i threatened the travel cot - put her in it and she climbed out twice (very helpful of her granny to have taught her how to do this a few weeks ago grrr). She's having no treats today and will be straight in the cot at the first sign of trouble tonight. If that doesn't work i will have to resort to some medicine as otherwise i'm going to be at my wits end by the time this baby arrives!

I suspect there will be more birth announcements over the weekend so good luck to everyone!

LadyTophamHatt · 13/01/2007 11:31

I'm still here amy, 4 day late now.

Pretty much no signof this baby making an appearance anytime soon.

Hattie2 · 13/01/2007 11:47

Many congrats daisy and galmum - both beautiful names. It seems to be all girls at the moment, I'm sure there were supposed to be more boys! Wish mine would get a move on (8 days overdue now) and even the numbers up a bit!

Lizzzombie · 13/01/2007 15:25

Congrats to Daisy and Galmum. (10.8lbs - wow! so impressed!)
I'm now 40+7 and just been to the chemist to buy some castor oil. Lady wouldnt sell it to me. She said it was too full of toxins and was an old wives tale anyway. She suggested eating curry instead, to which I told her that was an urban myth, and if it was true all Indian women would be giving birth early.
Am off to visualise opening things. (bottles of wine, cans of lager, packets of brie etc!)

Hope Wilkie is ok. x

wilkie50 · 13/01/2007 18:06

Hi Girl

Jacob Allan arrived last night at 5.18pm after 26 hours of labour (!!!!!!full horror story if you really want it - all I will say is that don't shun an epidural if you need one - they rock!!!!!!!) weighing in at 7lbs, 9 days early. He is absolutely gorgeous but I am in total shock that I have a son!!! Never had to change a nappy with a willy in it - eek - the wee goes everywhere!!!

Sending out labour vibes to everyone - especially you overduers!

Is someone going to update the birth list - congratulations to everyone else, so much news to catch up on with the popping that has been going on!

Galmum - I am sure Digby is thrilled he has a litte sister to watch over and such a beautiful name. [big hugs] xxx

trixymalixy · 13/01/2007 18:11
