Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ODog · 10/05/2016 20:42

My friend has just texted and asked if she should bother staying with her parents for the weekend (she lives in London). Oh yes...let me consult my crystal ball and let you know but also...no you are not traipsing in and out of my house mere days after giving birth and having to continue life with a toddler.

ODog · 10/05/2016 20:44

shalala that's what I've had the last couple of days. I think the baby has just moved down a bit. Hopefully it means something more for you.

shalalala · 10/05/2016 21:00

Yeah odog that's what I reckon it is. Fingers crossed for both of us we get some movement soon!

Outnumb3red · 10/05/2016 21:04

Thanks everyone.

No real twinges i don't think, just loads of those stabby pains that sometimes makes it hard to walk. Sitting on my gym ball helps with them. My second labour only lasted 90 minutes so I'm paranoid that I'm about to go into labour at any minute. I get lots and lots of braxton hicks tho.

I lost my plug before my due date with my first and ended up getting induced 10 after EDD

GrouchyKiwi · 10/05/2016 21:05

ODog If it makes you feel better, second babies generally don't engage until labour begins so it might be really sudden compared with first labour. (And they often go in and out of engagement because nothing is allowed to be easy.)

Hey all,

I thought I posted the other day but must have got distracted before pressing post.

DS is 6 days old today and doing well so far. Got my first day alone with him and DD (3.5yrs) tomorrow so that will be interesting. DD is a lovely big sister but understandably has been tantrumming more since baby arrived.

Shalala that is exactly how my first labour started. A bit of show at around 4pm on a Friday, twinges by the evening. Regular contractions by 2am Saturday, progressing to established labour around 2pm. Baby born a little before 10pm Saturday. Good luck if this is the real thing!

Pikz · 10/05/2016 22:06

So the short version- had sweep Friday, came into triage Froday night as contractions were on top of each other, only to 2-3cm and didn't progress in an hour so went home. Contractions all day Saturday, woke up 4.30am suNday and they had ramped up. By 6pm they were back to back lasting 2 minutes each and I couldn't sit or lay or do anything but walk. Went to triage still on 2-3cm 😞 got told they wanted me in due to scar stress. Ended up all night with back to back contractions that I couldn't do anything but pace the ward. At 2pm after having several meltdowns at midwives as I was vomiting constantly ( so all the pethadine and Codedine came up) they broke my waters.

I then managed to send myself!!! Into hyper labour, contractions were 20 minutes long and with a 20 second break. It all got very hairy, there were lots of people and me trying to cope with just gas and air.
They got a injection in to try and slow them down, it did nothing then they eventually had to do an epidural as they wouldn't stop and more and more people were coming in!!!

Epidural went in, all calm. They exam me, only 2-3 sodding cm!! Said they might hAve to try the drip to speed things back up but they were going to leave it 3 hrs so everyone and everything just calmed down. Anyway my body said stuff that and 1.5hrs later I was 9.5cm! Was prepped for theatre as he was back to back so was either forceps or csection. Went to theatre and pushed him out in 7 minutes.

Then I lost 1.9litres of blood, they had to do a lot of stitches and I collapsed.

All ok now just very woozy and sore. He is just perfect and other than a severe tongue tie( which is being snipped tomorrow) so I'm just expressing on to a teaspoon our amazing little family is complete.

Everythinggettingbigger · 11/05/2016 10:46

Oh my God pikz so sorry you had to go through all that that sounds horrendous but at least your baby boy is here safe!

Pearly I'm dreading how my DS is going to react to a new baby, he's had me all to myself for 5 and a half years! Hope DD behaves for you and your first day alone goes smoothly!

Any more twinges Shalala? I had another false start last night, pains every 25 mins lasting around 45 seconds each but then fizzled out to nothing after a couple of hours! Achey this morning but nothing going on!

ODog how are you feeling?

GunShotResidue · 11/05/2016 11:00

Good luck for your first day alone Pearly!

Wow, that sounds really tough Pikz, I hope you get lots of time to recover! It's good they're sorting the tongue tie so quickly.

TMI, but my nipples really hurt. I don't know if that's a sign or if I'm grasping at straws! If I go into labour today we'll be calling my dad to watch DD as MIL is at work and my sister is at a funeral (dad is self employed). He's great with DD, they are very close, but she's the first baby/toddler he's known since us really, 21 years ago! And I don't think he's ever changed a nappy. Could be interesting! No twinges or anything so I doubt it'll be today, but I'm also less impatient and a bit calmer now too.

Getting close to the end of the thread!

ParsnipSoup · 11/05/2016 12:47

Goodness Pikz, it sounds like you had quite a rough time. Glad you're feeling a bit better now. Enjoy those lovely baby cuddles.

Gunshot if sore nipples are a sign of imminent childbirth I'm going to recheck my hospital bags. I almost ripped DPs head off last night when he touched my boob...

I am SO TIRED and getting pretty worried about how I'll cope once baby is here. Managed about 3hrs sleep night before last (then DP woke me up to tell me I was snoring so loud I was shaking the bed), and maybe 4hrs last night (before I was woken up by the cat stuffing her paws in my mouth... even she is fed up of my snoring). Trying not to nap in the day as then I can't get to sleep in the evening but I'm completely useless in the day because I'm so tired and grumpy.

Nicky333 · 11/05/2016 16:36

Does somebody want to set up a new thread and post the link here before this thread does come to an end?

ODog · 11/05/2016 17:27

Hopefully this is the start of something gunshot and your dad remembers how to change a nappy .

parsnip I would just go with crazy sleep patterns and sleep when you are tired. It's your body's way of adjusting your body clock ahead of a newborn. They tend to cluster feed until the early hours hence why you are struggling to sleep in the evening and then are tired in the day. Roll with it and you might feel better for it.

No movement here 40+5 and have the midwife coming to me tomorrow so I expect we will talk induction.

GrouchyKiwi · 11/05/2016 17:53

I just got stuck trying to get up from sleeping on the sofa, with my pubic bones grinding together as I struggled to get up. I want this baby out now.

Pikz Sounds like a difficult time. Hope you're recovering well and enjoying the little one.

Hope you had a good day Pearly.

Parsnip I recommend sleeping whenever you can - day or night. You'll end up wanting to do that when the baby is here anyway so might as well get used to it. It's one of the ways to cope with all of the night feeding, sleeping when the baby sleeps.

10 days overdue now and had a complete emotional meltdown this morning when I eventually managed to get through to the hospital and they told me there were no appointments left to get a second sweep and induction booked today. They only do same day appointments so I have to ring back tomorrow morning. In the meantime I've called the antenatal ward to see if I can book an induction directly with them as I'll be 42 weeks on Sunday and don't want this dragging on. I can only book it through the Community midwives who only have an answer phone that is accessed once a day so I've left a message and hopefully by tomorrow I'll get and second sweep and an induction booked. If it was this hard to get appointments I don't know why she didn't book the induction when I had the first sweep on Monday!

Hope things start moving for everyone else who is overdue!

GrouchyKiwi · 11/05/2016 18:16

Flowers Sounds a bit shabby, frozen. Hope you're able to get your sweep tomorrow and the induction booked in asap.

Our little girl was born at midday after a very speedy 3.5 hours after my waters broke. Midwife didn't believe I was that far along until I have to be rushed to the delivery suite and 45 mins later she came along! Such a wonderful, intense and amazing day I can't quite describe it x

ParsnipSoup · 11/05/2016 21:18

Congratulations Shalalala!! Enjoy your newborn cuddles.
