thread #2 - TTC#1 Grads, sick bags at the ready!

Runner05 · 27/01/2016 15:07

We've finally got our BFPs and have started on the long winding road of pregnancy.

Most of us are starting, within, or just leaving the first trimester where bloating, unexplained discharge and constant nausea are watchwords of the day!

We're battling NHS inconsistencies, trying not to kill our midwives and desperately looking for a magic morning sickness cure... It's TTC#1 grads!!!

Irreg~ I am a fart and burp machine at the minute Shock

IrregularCommentary · 31/01/2016 10:51

I missed those few posts while I was typing mine Pink, that sounds awful. Hope you feel better soon.

Maybe I should stop feeling sorry for myself, mine doesn't sound so bad in comparison!

Pinklily1 · 31/01/2016 18:00

I've been watching repeats of One Born Every Minute today - makes me want to skip the actual giving birth part!

shelbTa · 31/01/2016 18:13

Uhhh, after a good start I've felt so ill today, literally haven't left the couch, I really really hope it's not back for good :-(.

X

Pinklily1 · 31/01/2016 18:21

The unpredictability is so rubbish isn't it Shelb. Can you have an early night, see if that helps? After my sickness earlier I've spent the afternoon snoozing on the sofa so think I may struggle to sleep tonight, when combined with being scared about going back to work!

How far along are you now?

shelbTa · 31/01/2016 18:34

9+1 pink. I know, it's pretty tough.

I'm also really worried about the amount I'm eating at the moment, I'm going to pile on the pounds.

Ah I bet the thought of work again must be nerve wracking - you haven't told them yet have you? Do you have quiet rooms at your workplace you could do work? We do, godsend!

X

Pinklily1 · 31/01/2016 19:06

I've told my boss and one colleague, just because I've had so much time off. Will be trying to keep it from others. We do have quiet rooms - that's actually a really good idea.

I'd forgotten we were so close - I'm 9+2 based on date of last period. Hoping that when we have the scan it doesn't differ much from that!

Pinklily1 · 31/01/2016 19:07

Ps I think just eat what you want when you want in the first trimester. I'm sure it will regulate itself later on.

I've lost 8lbs so far and worry about that, so I think it's a no win situation - you worry if you put on weight and worry if you lose it too.

Morwenna1 · 31/01/2016 19:29

Hi ladies, how are you all?

My weight hasn't altered at all, and I'm just eating normally with a few more snacks thrown in (trying to ensure they are healthy snacks like fruit and yoghurt!) That's the condition I was thinking of Pink - glad you don't have that! I cannot watch One Born Every Minute. I've only watched one episode all the way through and I was so upset because this baby was in distress and it was all a bit touch and go, I decided there and then I wouldn't be watching anymore. I like to find out things if they are relevant or I need to know, but other than that ignorance is bliss as I'll be worrying over something that is unlikely to happen!

Had insomnia the other night Shelb I was comfortable, I just couldn't sleep! My brain doing overtime. Still finding the baby brain myth surprisingly accurate! Common sense gone completely out the window.

Can't wait till the scan.

iPatches · 31/01/2016 20:41

May I join?
AF is wonderfully AWOL today and I got a BFP yesterday and again this morning just to double check
No symptoms other than painful boobs which seem to be growing rather rapidly. I am also hungry (but I am always hungry).

Runner05 · 31/01/2016 20:46

Pink I hope work goes well for you. You're braver than I am!

Shelb sorry to hear you're feeling rubbish. I keep hoping that we'll all magically be better soon but every time I feel better i tend to take a downward turn shortly after.

Mor most OBEM episodes are happy and uneventful. I tend to read the description of the episode and if it says anything along the lines of struggle I avoid it.

I'm currently taking a brief break from nausea to have a headache. Is it wrong that I find splitting head pain a pleasant respite from crippling nausea? Never thought I'd be happy to have a headache but it does seem to be the only thing that makes the morning sickness take a break Confused

Hi iPatch, welcome to grads Grin

I'll give you my bulk standard advice to all newbies... Spend the next couple of weeks eating your favourite foods and doing your favourite things. Stock up on plain ice lollies and crackers and keep your fingers crossed. Hopefully you'll be one of the lucky 20% who don't get morning sickness Smile

Sorry to everyone who's feeling nauseous and shitty. I hope you move into second trimey soon and it goes away.

Irregular - I've definitely become a bit of a farting machine! No burping, but I feel like I slip one out at the other end every time I walk by. And they're a bit smelly too. Awesome.

Welcome ipatches!
**
And thanks for the early advice Runner, much appreciated for newbies x

LisaTheGreek · 31/01/2016 21:38

Such a bolding fail..... Hmm

iPatches · 31/01/2016 21:58

Thanks runner really not looking forward to any sickness. I am a big wimp.

Mild panic - just had a bath, then read that hot baths are a no-no?! It wasn't scalding (I hopped right in) and wasn't very deep (didn't cover my stomach or chest) and I was reading a book so a lot of me was out of the water. That's okay, right?!? Argh so many new life rules SadConfusedSad

Runner05 · 31/01/2016 22:53

Lisa I'm pretty sure the farting and burping is here for the duration. I've always been quite discreet with mine but now if I burp or fart I'm pretty sure our neighbours two doors away hear Blush

Don't panic about the sickness Ipatch quite a few of the ladies on here have got away with mild or short lived nausea. Even the worse of us have had more dizziness and nausea than actual sickness not that that isn't bad enough.
Do you know if your mum (or sisters if you have any) had bad morning sickness? It can be hereditary so if the women of your family had it you're more likely to. You're also more likely to get morning sickness if you get bad motion sickness... Unfortunately I have both family history and motion sickness so it's no surprise I've been bad Hmm
Fingers crossed you manage to escape unscathed but if you don't, really don't panic about actually being sick. It's not the same as being sick when you're ill... It's just not as distressing for some reason. Well it hasn't been for me anyway... Except that time I had a McDonald's breakfast. I don't recommend that Hmm

Hey you guys! Just popping in briefly to say I hope you're all feeling well and lovely and I'm thinking of you all and your lovely little beans! Much love and positive thoughts to you bunch of gorgeous human incubators 🎀 🐘 🍼 💐

Pinklily1 · 01/02/2016 07:22

Morning ladies

Thank you Starky, we can't wait for you to join us too!

Re baths - I have had quite a few as I've been so dizzy that I've not been able to stand up in the shower. It didn't even occur to me not to have them. Mine weren't scalding hot either and I figure what's done is done now. I will probably avoid them from now on though.

I'm having a mini meltdown this morning about trying to go back to work today. I felt optimistic yesterday but now I just want to stay in bed, curl up into a ball and cry at the prospect.

sophied1983 · 01/02/2016 07:24

Hello everyone

Time is going so slowly isn't it?! Am 9+4 today based on LMP or 8+1 based on early reassurance scan.

I'll be having my 12 week scan at 10+4... do you think that's ok? Midwife didn't seem fussed at booking appointment.

Southwark were super efficient with appointments. In their calculations I'll be exactly 12 weeks on scan date.

sophied1983 · 01/02/2016 07:25

Oh and I've had loads of baths. I think as long as you don't come out with pink wrinkled skin you're ok. Shouldn't be one of those baths you run sometimes where you end up perspiring with the heat of it.

DrWhy · 01/02/2016 07:37

So, I finally told my parents, sister and PIL last night so it all feels a bit more real - first midwife appointment tomorrow, eek!
I'm now somehow even more nervous that it might all go wrong and we'll have to 'untell' everyone - especially as my parents were so amazingly excited - I guess I just have to keep being positive.
I did discover that my mum had no sickness and other than 1st trimester tiredness said she'd never felt better so that's a really promising sign - not a guarantee but means I should stop panicking that I only have low level nausea. It's interesting runner that you say people with motion sickness often get it worse. I've always had awful travel sickness and the mild nausea I'm getting feels just like the early part of that, I think I'm so used to this low level nausea whenever I'm in a car it's not bothering me too much, it will bother me a lot however if it starts to feel like I'm on a bumpy road while trying to read a map!
Pink I hope you are feeling better now and manage to get back into work when you want to but if you need the rest for a couple more weeks then take it.
Shelb I'm crossing my fingers for you that this is just a bad day and not the return of sickness longer term.

Runner05 · 01/02/2016 07:58

Aww Pink if you don't feel ready then don't go. No point distressing yourself when you really can't help how you feel.

Ipatch the advisory about baths is due to hot baths raising your core body temp. I believe that as long as they're not too hot they're safe. Sauners and hot tubs are out for the same reason.

Soph I'm sure that scan date will be fine. Baby should be developed enough by then to get the measurements they need.

I'm about to call the dr to get my sick note extended. I actually think it's a bit silly that I have to go in and see a dr when I've been in and out seeing the midwife and having tests for the past couple of weeks. All they're going to do is check my blood pressure, maybe my wee and send me on my way with a sick note. It's a bit of a waste of everyone's time when they could just do it over the phone. Oh well Hmm

shelbTa · 01/02/2016 08:16

Aww pink don't push yourself too hard. If you can make it in though they might take one look at you (no offence) and say go home?

Hi starky!!!!!!

Hi everyone!

Touch wood I'm ok so far today.

X

Pinklily1 · 01/02/2016 08:45

I've made it to the car park! Now just to get into work and manage to lie to those colleagues who don't know the real reason why I have been off....
