thread #2 - TTC#1 Grads, sick bags at the ready!

We've finally got our BFPs and have started on the long winding road of pregnancy.

Most of us are starting, within, or just leaving the first trimester where bloating, unexplained discharge and constant nausea are watchwords of the day!

We're battling NHS inconsistencies, trying not to kill our midwives and desperately looking for a magic morning sickness cure... It's TTC#1 grads!!!

Look who we got to meet last night!

Mileymoocow · 29/01/2016 07:14

choc that sounds lovely! I woke up at half 3 this morning and couldn't get back to sleep. Had weird painful cramps that felt like trapped wind.

Thinking of you all suffering morning sickness Flowers

Mileymoocow · 29/01/2016 07:17

Aww nev what a lovely little bean!

irregular your doctor should refer you to your midwife Smile I'm seeing mine on Monday which made it seem real to me at last (after 6 positive tests). I bet your DH was over the moon! Grin mine is still on a massive high. I'm 3+3 too! Due 11th October (ish)

DrWhy · 29/01/2016 07:18

miley don't worry to much about the morning sickness, I'm 7+4 and have had 2 days of really mild nausea like I've spent too long in the car. I'm actually panicking a bit that it means I don't have a happy healthy bean in there. You pretty much can't win!

IrregularCommentary · 29/01/2016 07:31

He's half thrilled Miley and half, 'shit, serious business!' I did a due date calculator thing last night and it puts me at 8th Oct (which really isn't far away!). He's also relieved as he passed up on The Cure tickets for early November as he knew the timing might be very difficult then, so now he feels like he's made the right choice and not just missed out on a great gig!

Woken up this morning feeling fairly nauseous, which I'm not on board with. Hopefully I'll be able to not focus on it once I'm up and at work though.

Ah Nev that's great, must be so exciting Smile

shelbTa · 29/01/2016 08:17

Hi everyone!

Nev that's a lovely scan! Is that a 12 weeker? Sorry if missed tHat.

Bunch how are you? Have you had your 12 week yet?

Hi runner, pink - how's the barfing been?

Well, probably tempting fait here but - haven't been nauseous since sat! Please God let it have passed!

X

Nevlet · 29/01/2016 08:25

Morning shelb no 8+3 yesterday. I had been panicked by lack of symptoms so OH booked it to try and put my mind at rest. Lovely clear pictures but am paranoid heart beat is too fast even though they said it was totally normal!

LisaTheGreek · 29/01/2016 08:33

Hi everyone, just place-marking as I only got my first BFP this morning. Might do another tomorrow to check it's not a fluke.

I'm also going to read this thread from the start - hope everyone is doing well x

Mileymoocow · 29/01/2016 09:41

drwhy thanks for that! I'm hoping to follow in your footsteps!

irregular it's really not. We did the whole "it was/is going to be our last christmas/birthday/holiday etc just the 2 of us" and really put it into perspective. Also providing nothing goes wrong which, I won't lie, I'm shitting myself about

Lanadel · 29/01/2016 10:06

Hi everyone! I don't have much to report myself but hope you are all doing well.
Welcome irreg and lisa and congrats on your BFP!
Nev how amazing is your scan, it's so clear.

Pinklily1 · 29/01/2016 10:42

Congrats Irreg and Lisa!

Pinklily1 · 29/01/2016 10:42

Nev~ the scan is great! Did they confirm your dates?

Morwenna1 · 29/01/2016 10:51

Lovely scan Nev! And 8+3 with a heartbeat Smile Don't worry about it going twice as fast as yours, apparently that is completely normal. It's got a lot of work to do building a human!

Dr It might be an idea to ask your Mum if she had any morning sickness. Mine didn't and the midwife said it does tend to follow on. I would try not to worry - fingers crossed we're in the extremely fortunate 25% who don't have it!

Runner Great news your mum is going into a good home Smile Hopefully you'll be able to tell us all the sickness is easing soon too and you can start looking forward to the 2nd tri! Likewise Pink I hope you start feeling better soon.

Fingers crossed Shelb that you're getting to the end of it all!

Hi Irreg and Lisa - yep you work out your weeks from the first day of your last period. Not completely accurate but they'll be able to tell you at your scan.

So my DH came home last night and before he walked in he said a work colleague (who he sits opposite from) has been signed off sick with flu. Rung GP this morning to get an emergency appt as I'm not messing around anymore, the nurse is off sick (how ironic would it be if it was flu?!) So just been to Tesco and got it done there (for free). Finally. They told me they had plenty of vaccine left, so the bloody nurse was just trying to push me into making a decision the other day (she said they are running out in the local area).

Despite knowing there's no risk and feeling like I've done more research into this than the NHS themselves, I can't shake that little niggling doubt at the back of my head. I'm 11+4 so I need to just stop worrying about it all now and accept that I've made the best decision. (For the newbies wondering what I'm on about, check the previous thread for info)

Pinklily1 · 29/01/2016 11:46

Mor, I've adopted the approach of what's done is done now - I had mine without really giving it due consideration if I am honest, and I have had niggling doubts since. However, there's not a lot we can do now we've had it, and you are so close to the 2nd trimester, so try not to worry too much.

I've lost track of scan dates - do you have a 12 week scan date yet?

Nevlet · 29/01/2016 12:41

Thanks for the nice comments... Was so excited I had to share! I estimate 8+3 from LMP but do have PCOS and bonkers cycles scan put at 8 exactly. So very close. Heart rate was 185 none of my apps go above 180!

Morwenna1 · 29/01/2016 14:06

Pink I know you're right and I'd feel so much worse if I managed to get flu from somewhere! Still waiting for my scan date in the post...will give it a few more days and then call them to find out what's happening.

Nev I didn't get a heart rate reading at my early scan, I wonder what it was..if the sonographer wasn't concerned then I wouldn't be either.

Newmrs22 · 29/01/2016 19:26

mor I think you did the right thing. Women have died from the flu when pregnant. I just got a letter from the GP asking me to book mine. Will do that Monday.

I thought sickness had passed but it was back with a vengeance today. I'm 10+5. Not long now until the 2nd tri and feeling a bit better (fingers crossed)

Runner05 · 29/01/2016 20:44

Hello ladies, how are things today?

I've had a rubbish one, on the verge of being sick all day Sad think I'm going to have to extend my sick leave again on Monday. Also feel really bad for OH who came home from work tidied, took out the rubbish and has gone out to get a McD's as I feel too sick for dinner. He's an absolute star and I feel horrible that he's having to pick up all the slack especially as he's being so sweet about it.

On the bright side, I did online shopping so we have food. I might make us one of my super yummy chicken Cesar salads tomorrow Smile rock and roll!

Morning all! runner I'm very symptomless other than a bit gas and tender boobs. Long may it continue (tho its hard to let it sink in I'm pregnant because I have no symptoms!)

Ok, so I know you probably all already know but mothercare have 20% off their nursery furniture until Feb 17th!

LisaTheGreek · 30/01/2016 08:40

Oh Miley, I wish you hadn't said that! Tries desperately to resist going onto Mothercare website

IrregularCommentary · 30/01/2016 08:58

I'm very symptomless today Miley Yesterday was gas central and low level nausea and this morning I feel fine. I'm of course now desperately trying to stop myself panicking that something's wrong.

It's going to be a long 9 months isn't it!!

Dh and I have agreed, no buying anything and no name conversations etc until after the 12 week scan. At that point I suspect I'll go a little nuts!

Got my first appointment with a midwife for the very end of Feb, as I should be 8 weeks by then Smile

Has anyone in the very first stages told anyone btw? I have 4 people who know, but one of them is my Mum. I figure telling the people who I'd turn to for support if something went wrong kinda makes sense for me, but I know everyone's different with that.

Laurenrl · 30/01/2016 09:08

Hi irregular,

I've done the opposite of you haha, I have bought a couple of things (only little things like clothes, I haven't started the nursery or anything) but I haven't told anyone!

Having an early scan at 6+4 so will probably just tell parents after that, and nobody else until after the 12 weeks!

I guess it just depends on what you feel comfortable doing I don't think there's any right or wrong!

Runner05 · 30/01/2016 10:11

I've had to tell work because of the sick leave (if you inform work that it's because you're upduffed then they are legally required to be supportive) I've also told my sister because she guessed, my great aunt because she's ancient and OHs dad because I didn't want him to think I was snubbing him and his food.
I'm not telling anyone else until our 12 week scan (only 2 weeks now!!!!)

Today I'm 10 weeks and baby is the size of a Lego man. The only think I've bought for him is a weird cuddly toy made of mismatched fabric that looks like a cross between a hedgehog and a stegosaurus. I do have a massive wish list on Amazon though lol

This morning I got OH talking about getting married Grin think we're going to go down the unconventional rout and have the reception as a garden party at the new house. I looked at all the other options and while they're lovely and posh it just seems like a lot of money and effort to throw a party when I know OH would be happier with some picknic food and family and it's just more us Grin excited Smile goes off to start new Amazon wish list for party stuff

Mileymoocow · 30/01/2016 10:12

Eeeeek! lauren an early scan?! I really want one (think they're £99 here).

irregular I haven't told a soul. We've only bought a lampshade and that was to appease DP. He will not thank me for this but he shed a tear yesterday when we tried pushchairs and was massively gobsmacked that you could express your own milk into a bottle. Big hard geordies eh?

We want an early scan to put in mother's day 'grandmother' cards for our mums and a 'great grandma' one for my grandma with a little note inside saying can't wait to meet you. But I'll be 8 weeks then and we aren't telling anyone else until 12 weeks except both sets of parents and my grandma.

Mileymoocow · 30/01/2016 10:15

runner that sounds ideal to me. when we eventually get married were doing a marquee at the local cricket club! Lots of games, football, rounders etc. Flip flops for the ladies and shawls incase it gets cold. Will be hiring a portable bar too. I can't justify or afford 20 odd grand on a manor house wedding. The marquee will be big enough for dj/dance floor and about 8 tables.
