thread #2 - TTC#1 Grads, sick bags at the ready!

Runner05 · 27/01/2016 15:07

We've finally got our BFPs and have started on the long winding road of pregnancy.

Most of us are starting, within, or just leaving the first trimester where bloating, unexplained discharge and constant nausea are watchwords of the day!

We're battling NHS inconsistencies, trying not to kill our midwives and desperately looking for a magic morning sickness cure... It's TTC#1 grads!!!

I'm having my early scan at the local hospital (so free) I had a tiny bit of brown spotting in the day AF was due and they found I had a UTI so I was booked in to check everything's ok.

Your card idea is a great idea! So creative. We live 200 miles from both our families so I think a trip up north is in order to tell parents!

Laurenrl · 30/01/2016 10:41

Also want a nice simple back yard wedding :) hate being too much centre of attention, actually scared of telling people I'm pregnant for that reason!

Mileymoocow · 30/01/2016 10:49

lauren I'm with you. I get a bit twitchy at the attention thing. Especially when peple buy you things because I feel like they've done it because they think they have to! Plus I know it's so expensive kitting yourself out to go to someone's wedding I just want everyone to be relaxed.

I'm sure everything will be fine! Plus you get to see your bubba super early and I'm a little jealous but in a nice way.

Runner05 · 30/01/2016 11:01

Miley that's a lovely idea about the card. I was going to do something similar for my mum at Christmas but decided to wait until 12 weeks.

Nice to hear I'm not the only one who wants a small wedding. I was researching last year and I really found that most of the venues were really pricy and uptight. I'm the sort of person that will not use a supplier if I feel they've been rude or dismissive and the only venue in the area that I felt was willing to do what I wanted instead of what they thought all brides want was a small golf club. But having put some thought into it I just really love the idea of chilling in the garden with friends, picknic food and some live music. Kinda like the old 1940's street party feel.

Loving the wedding ideas ladies. We are getting married next year in a converted barn and I want to be as relaxed as possible - kind of like a party where we just happen to get married! No bridesmaids or ushers (other than small nephews and nieces), no speeches, no first dances. The only thing I'm sticking to is getting a nice wedding dress Grin

I'm a bit jealous of the early scans too. They are £99 here which isn't hideous but with a baby and wedding to save for we can't justify it right now, so just waiting it out till the 12 week scan. I'm 9+1 today so only three weeks to go.

For the newbies, will you all find out the sex or keep it a surprise?

Runner05 · 30/01/2016 12:24

Converted barn sounds nice Pink Smile sounds like it's going to be a busy wedding season next year!

I think the only extravagance we're having will be a hog roast. OH lurves hog roast and so do I. Other than that it will be friends with guitars providing music and home made cheese and pineapple hedgehogs can't have a party without a cheese and pineapple hedgehog Wink

Sounds amazing runner, my kind of party!

We are going to find out the sex if we can, but not tell anyone so we are able to reveal it when it's born :) I'm far too impatient to wait to know the sex as I feel like the 7 month 3 week wait that's left is gonna be bad enough for me hahaha

How about you?

Pinklily1 · 30/01/2016 13:48

We will definitely find out the sex as well. I don't have the patience to wait either! The remaining 30 something weeks feels like an eternity!

Runner05 · 30/01/2016 16:35

We'll be finding out the sex too. I'm a control freak and will need to colour code things accordingly Wink

Strange question but does anyone else hate soap? Since having really bad morning sickness I can't stand the smell of any soap. Detergents, shampoos, body lotions, all make me feel like crap. I've even been putting off showers to every third day because I know that if I have a shower I'll spend the rest of the day feeling really sick because all I can taste and smell is soap.

OP posts:
Pinklily1 · 30/01/2016 17:30

I've not had that Runner, although I have an aversion to lots of other smells - I've not worn perfume for weeks and anything meaty smelling makes me wretch. Can you get an unscented soap?

I'm going to attempt a return to work on Monday, God knows how that will go. I've felt consistently crap but am trying to get on top of eating before I am hungry, to pre-melt the worst part of the nausea. I've got to go back sometimes so will give it a go and see what happens.

Runner05 · 30/01/2016 17:53

Good luck Pink.

I'm going to try to get signed off again on Monday. I wanted to go back but there's no pattern in my nausea, nothing stops it. One day I'll discover that one food makes me feel better. The next it will make me violently sick. If anything the severity of the nausea and sickness has got worse Sad

Really could just cry sometimes and today has been one of those really bad days Sad

Oh Runner, it is awful feeling so crap all of the time isn't it. My OH is being wonderful but I know he doesn't understand how hideous I feel. I keep saying to him that it's like having a sickness bug everyday for weeks on end, with no idea of when it will end.

I suppose all we can do is hold onto the knowledge that it will pass at some point, hopefully in the not to distant future. I am counting down now until I hit the 10 week mark, as I think double figures will help me mentally, and it then doesn't seem too far off the next milestone of 12 weeks. In my head I am going to wake up at 12+1 and feel absolutely fine! I hope that turns out to be the reality too Hmm

Runner05 · 30/01/2016 20:03

I hope so too Pink I think most people start feeling a lot better between 11 and 13 weeks. I'm really hoping that I'll start recovering around the 11 week mark. I'm already 10 weeks, one of my apps has told me that this will probably be the worse week but then I'll start improving, another says that I'll start improving this week... I wish they'd make up their minds!

I know what you mean about OH not really understanding. Mine is just about as wonderful as he can be he informed me he's being wonderful because he wants sex when I'm better Shock but it's taken a while for him to get his head round what it's like. I have to keep explaining it in different ways.

Sorry, having a little pity party for one this evening.

I found comparing it to a constant hangover worked for my OH

Morwenna1 · 30/01/2016 22:15

The wedding plans sound exciting ladies! Smile I think we'll probably be finding out the sex too, DH likes the idea and I think it will make it seem more 'real' for him.

Got my scan date through!! Yay! Smile I'll be 13+1.

So have the doctors ruled out the condition that Kate Middleton had (can't remember name) Runner and Pink? Can they tell if you're suffering from that, or "straight-forward" (in the loosest sense of the term!) sickness? I sincerely hope for anyone suffering it clears off in the 2nd tri if not earlier!

Morwenna1 · 30/01/2016 22:17

Oh, and we told parents and siblings at Christmas, but no one else knows yet!!

Morwenna1 · 30/01/2016 22:18

Anyone else been keeping up with the Zika virus news? Quite scary that it could spread to southern Europe. Lets hope they find a solution before then.

shelbTa · 31/01/2016 07:55

Morning ladies,

How are we all?

Aw runner, pink, you sound like you're still suffering, I feel for you, it's bloody awful.

I'm def finding out the sex! Has anyone looked into the 'skull theory' 12 week scan thing to guess the sex? Quite interesting.

My latest symptom is insomnia. Brilliant.

X

Runner05 · 31/01/2016 09:59

Morning ladies Smile

Not feeling quite so retched this morning so I'm going to try not to make the same mistakes today that I made yesterday. In other words, if something doesn't smell appetising I'm not eating it and I'm refusing to get out of bed!

I shall instead be spending the day distracting myself by looking at wedding party supplies. OH is resigned to this and just lets me get on with it... Poor sod lol

How's everyone else doing this morning?

OP posts:
Pinklily1 · 31/01/2016 10:14

Mor, do you mean hyperemesis? I think that's when you are being sick a ridiculous amount each day. A friend had it and was sick about 15 times a day, couldn't keep any food or drink down and ended up hospitalised.

I've felt awful but haven't had it that bad. I've only been physically sick a few times, the main problems for me have been the constant nausea and dizziness.

I've heard of that theory Shelb. I can't tell what's what in scan pictures to be honest though!

Pinklily1 · 31/01/2016 10:22

Posting that clearly tempted fate as I have just been hideously sick Confused

shelbTa · 31/01/2016 10:25

Oh pink!

Have you been managing to go to work or are you off?

X

Pinklily1 · 31/01/2016 10:27

I've been off got the last three weeks. My sim is to go back tomorrow, but we'll see how I am through today. I've got Togo back sometime and the way I see it is I either get signed off until 12 weeks, which I don't want to do as I will then have been off six weeks, or give it a go tomorrow and see what happens.

IrregularCommentary · 31/01/2016 10:28

Shelb, I'm shattered in the evening but taking a while to then get to sleep (possibly too much whizzing round my head though) Am waking up hours earlier than normal as well. Usually a solid 10am on a weekend, but been more like 7am the last two days.

I'm about 3+6 today. Feel super bleurgh after eating anything - like I've eaten far far too much when I haven't at all. That, plus I'm a walking fart/burp machine and have very low level hangover type nausea (though that could be part of the feeling like I've eaten far too much).

Anyone else relate to these particularly lovely symptoms?

Pinklily1 · 31/01/2016 10:28

Sorry, that was meant to say I have been off for the last three weeks and my aim is to go back tomorrow!
