thread #2 - TTC#1 Grads, sick bags at the ready!

We've finally got our BFPs and have started on the long winding road of pregnancy.

Most of us are starting, within, or just leaving the first trimester where bloating, unexplained discharge and constant nausea are watchwords of the day!

We're battling NHS inconsistencies, trying not to kill our midwives and desperately looking for a magic morning sickness cure... It's TTC#1 grads!!!

Trying to stop my husband getting carried away and keep having to remind him i sm only 4 weeks.

LaraG13 · 21/02/2016 08:32

thanks first and lillian. In the video link you sent, lillian she does say not all places offer the 12 week scan. I've just read in a few forums that they scrapped it in my area. We'll see though! I have a midwife appointment at 7 weeks.

first I'm finding it really hard to know how to feel because I know the risks and don't want to get overexcited at this stage. My OH is surprised that I'm not happier, but I think I'm just very worried.

firstgo1984 · 21/02/2016 08:37

I would be shocked of they don't fo that scan as it is vital for knowing an accurate gestation.

What area are you?

firstgo1984 · 21/02/2016 08:41

Lara it is also vital for determining chorionocity of twins so i honestly can't believe they wouldn't do it

Yvonne1986 · 21/02/2016 08:44

Have you called to book a midwife appointment yet Lara? I would ask when you book the appointment as 20 weeks is so far away!! I don't even know how I'm going to wait until 12 weeks that feels forever away too!!

First do you think you might be able to scan in work early? I wouldn't be able to resist the temptation.

Hope everyone is having a nice relaxing weekend with not too much sickness xx

LaraG13 · 21/02/2016 08:48

I'd thought the same, first, but saw this forum thread, plus another one (though they're quite old now)

babyandbump.momtastic.com/pregnancy-first-trimester/262102-did-you-automatically-get-12-wk-scan.html

I hope you're right though! I'm sure you are. I booked my midwife appt lillian but didn't ask, since it was just booked through GP receptionist.

Pinklily1 · 21/02/2016 09:35

Morning ladies

Hope everyone is feeling ok this morning.

I know I asked about the cost of can photos yonks ago, but now more people have had their 12 week scans, what did you trust charge you for them? I know it will vary depending on location. There's nothing in my scan letter saying we have to pay, but I vaguely remember seeing a machine to pay for pictures last time we went. Interested to see what the variation in costs is!

I bought myself a pregnancy pillow yesterday and it's wonderful and soft Smile

Mileymoocow · 21/02/2016 09:55

lara I would have thought they'd have to do a 12 week for screening reasons etc? Hopefully you get one!

Spewed all morning. Spoke too soon. Did throw 2 slices of toast and a couple of mini flapjacks down my throat immediately after though, and they've stayed down so far! Seems to be a good coping mechanism for me - spew then eat just a tip incase anyone here ends up suffering

firstgo1984 · 21/02/2016 09:56

lara i will be scanning myself at the earliest opportunity! Will be the most scanned baby ever i expect!

Pinklily1 · 21/02/2016 10:00

I've just been sick again Confused Really thought I was getting past the actual sickness, and just had the remaining nausea, but apparently not.

Pinklily1 · 21/02/2016 10:00

first, I'm guessing you work in a hospital?!

LisaTheGreek · 21/02/2016 10:09

Hello lovely ones,

Sorry I haven't been on here for a couple of days. I've been feeling a bit pathetic and sorry for myself.

Nausea got really bad on Wednesday and I had to come home from work. Was off Thursday and Friday as well, with lots of sickness, vomming, and abdominal pain. Haven't really been able to do anything or keep much down.

I tried to keep up with the threads but had a bit of a bad experience. Went into the TTC thread and someone was talking about having lots of CM. I just made it to the sink before I threw up everything, and then couldn't face clicking on the MN Talk app for a while after. Might stay off that one for a while! Grin

Hope everyone else is ok. Will catch up properly when I get a chance x

firstgo1984 · 21/02/2016 10:11

pink yep. One of the perks of my job.

LillianFullStop · 21/02/2016 10:12

lara I read the Nuchal and DS screening is optional (some people may not want to know as they would carry on with the pregnancy regardless). I wonder if you specifically ask for it they would book it in? Imagine not knowing until 20 weeks that you had twins!

firstgo1984 · 21/02/2016 10:15

The 10-13 week scan is used as oart of 1st trimester screening but dating and sorting out twins is the other purpose.
The DS screening is a choice.

LaraG13 · 21/02/2016 10:57

Thanks all!! Very reassuring. I'm glad I won't have to wait until 20 weeks!

pink, miley and lisa I really feel for you. It sounds horrendous 💐

Mileymoocow · 21/02/2016 11:30

Oh no pink I feel for you! And sorry it caught you, too lisa. We'll muddle through together Flowers

I've just bought these for our parents and my grandparents. Changed the wording from mummy and daddy to grandparents/great grandparents obviously. I can't wait for mothers day now, I'll be 9 weeks when we tell them and it's been so difficult to keep it a secret.

Laurenrl · 21/02/2016 12:35

That's lovely miley where did you get those from?

Mileymoocow · 21/02/2016 13:25

Thanks lauren, they're just off eBay Smile

Hopefully they'll love them!

firstgo1984 · 21/02/2016 13:36

I can't decide when to tell the parents

LaraG13 · 21/02/2016 14:00

That's lovely miley!

first, I have already told my parents. My reasoning was that I tell them everything and they knew I was Ttc. If I miscarried I would want to tell them anyway, for their support. So I felt there was no need to wait. However, I do feel that their reaction was different than it might have been a few weeks on. They were delighted but their joy was tempered with caution and worry (like my own), so I didn't get the full on congratulations I might have got if I'd waited. Also, I think they are probably worrying for me now so maybe I should have saved them from that. But I felt that I couldn't keep it from them. It's totally personal, but thought I'd share my own experience.

firstgo1984 · 21/02/2016 14:11

We have had my husband's parents here this weekend. I had to slyly avoid wine last night. Might wait a few more wèeks. Maybe once i have scanned and seen a heartbeat at least.

Runner05 · 21/02/2016 15:19

Pink my hospital charge £10 for 4 photos and you have to buy a stamp from a machine in reception to pay for them.
In reality the woman seemed to find Potato jumping around really funny and ended up taking 9 photos but we only had to buy 1 stamp. Grin

Told my mum about the baby today. We printed out copies of some of the scan photos and framed them and I gave them to mum. She said "ooo lovely" so I asked her if she knew what she was looking at and she said "no" face palm anyway I told her I was pregnant and she was looking at photos of the baby and she just said "ok" don't think she really understood but hey ho, I expected that to be honest.

Feeling a bit retched and sick today... I think I've started having some sort of reaction to bread. Every time I have it I start feeling ill a little while later. Very annoying Sad

Hope the rest of you ladies who are suffering start to feel a bit better soon Thanks

Forgot to say, I fell out the shower today Shock really freaked me out. Luckily I managed to fall "properly". I used to do martial arts and learnt how to fall in a way that you don't hurt yourself, I think doing this by instinct was just a fluke though Confused I need to be a lot more careful!
