thread #2 - TTC#1 Grads, sick bags at the ready!

We've finally got our BFPs and have started on the long winding road of pregnancy.

Most of us are starting, within, or just leaving the first trimester where bloating, unexplained discharge and constant nausea are watchwords of the day!

We're battling NHS inconsistencies, trying not to kill our midwives and desperately looking for a magic morning sickness cure... It's TTC#1 grads!!!

Good to see you First

Mor no I hadn't joined you then. GPs and midwives really should be pushing the flu jab on us rather than us having to chase to get it, especially as this years flu is almost all h1n1. We usually see flu cases tail off in February and March with April really being the end of the season but this ones been really weird with the season starting really late so it's anyone's guess this year.

I expect I'll be getting banned from our local Tesco...at least I threw up in the car park this time rather than inside the shop. Had a pretty rough weekend generally and made a pigs ear of a job application for a promotion so fingers crossed I've not got any competition.

Had been hoping to tell our parents on Mother's Day but my Dad and sister have just announced they're going skiing. Trying to work out plan number two now but with the sickness, I think I'll struggle to hide it for much longer.

firstgo1984 · 21/02/2016 15:55

Just did a clearblue and got a positive agsin. Phew!

LillianFullStop · 21/02/2016 16:33

oh no runner! lucky you have had training as a mummy ninja - but it looks like your potato has inherited your fighting skills Wink

Sorry to those suffering with nausea - sounds terrible. I count myself lucky not to have it ... Yet.

Mileymoocow · 21/02/2016 16:42

Omg omg omg guys...

I've just eaten a roast dinner! Beef, lots of veg...everything except the Yorkshire! I'm so proud right now.

Lol at your potato headbutting you runner! 😂 and glad you managed to fall correctly but please for the love of god be careful! I'm such a clutz anyway and OH keeps joking about baby proofing already because of me.

Mileymoocow · 21/02/2016 17:03

Also, I know not scientifically sound but I've made an observation which would be really interesting to keep track of.

I've done a lot of research on morning sickness and have discovered it tends to go beyond 12 weeks and be more severe if a girl and 12 weeks or less and less severe if a boy. I know it's probably just a coincidence bit would be interesting to see.

Planeteer · 21/02/2016 17:04

Yay miley!! So pleased you managed actual food! Really hope you hang on to it.

Queasiness back down to a manageable dull roar here and hoping it stays that way. I am having problems with the other end though! (Delightful). Anyone else an IBS sufferer? Have you found it flares up in early pg?

Nevlet · 21/02/2016 17:25

Planeteer yes my IBS has been flaring up alot.

Ok slightly embarassed to ask this and TMI but has anyone noticed a ridiculous spike in their sex drive coming out of first trimester?! Please tell me its not just me!!

IndiX · 21/02/2016 17:36

Yes planet I have IBS too and my bloating was out of control the first 2 weeks, seems to have calmed down a bit down I'm 6+5. Still bloat if I eat my usual 'bad' foods like bread/rice etc but I was bloating off smoothies at the beginning!
Well done Miley! Hopefully you'll keep it down.
Sorry to anyone else who is feeling shitty, I haven't eaten well at all this weekend as have totally gone off my normal healthy food and can only face carbs actually didn't believe people when they said that happens, it does! Determined to get back to my health kick tomorrow as I feel like a big pregnant pig Sad

Mileymoocow · 21/02/2016 17:36

nev I hope its a thing! We've dtd about 5 times since I got my bfp almost 4 weeks ago. I can't stomach sex right now. Enjoy it though!

Nevlet · 21/02/2016 17:38

Miley i think from bfp at 4 weeks to 11 weeks we only dtd twice! Just felt too tired or crappy to even think about it...

LillianFullStop · 21/02/2016 17:53

Roast beef miley! Def an achievement! Add that to the list right after flapjacks Smile

nev def feeling friskier esp with the juicy knickers but there has been no DTD here since BFP as cramps are being an annoyance and mood killer and feeling generally first trimester paranoid...

LisaTheGreek · 21/02/2016 18:06

Right, I've managed to keep down some ginger beer (not sure how much ginger is in it so might be a ginger placebo), and I'm nibbling on cocktail sausages. Obviously very bad for me, but the slightly saltiness and texture is working right now.

Thinking about work tomorrow makes me a little anxious.

Miley - you still working or you signed off?

How is everyone else tonight?

Mileymoocow · 21/02/2016 18:18

Glad it's not just me! I feel like a total turn off. I think my legs are hairier than OH'S right now...

lisa I have to self certify for 5 days then get a 2 week note off my doc but fx I'm on the up and can go back sooner rather than later. I'm conscious that I might have to take time off later in pregnancy so I'm not keen on being off too much if I can help it. Also, whatever works for you, eat it!

lillian I'm bizarrely excited that I feel almost human and haven't had to dash to the toilet since his morning. I've just finished an apple and activia yogurt cause I feel like I should throw as much food in as I can while I'm not zombiefied

Runner05 · 21/02/2016 18:37

HA! I had to shave my legs today, I was starting to look like a yeti! We haven't dtd since just after my BFP first I felt retched now I just feel so tender everywhere that just cuddling is uncomfortable Sad roll on August

Just dropped off dsd... Her mum mentioned that if we wanted to go out she and dsd would look after the baby DP knowing me glossed over the offer with a we'll see then brought it up in the car on the way home. My response was exactly as he had predicted "over my dead body will that woman ever lay so much as a finger on my child, I would rather hand it to a hobo on the street!" He found that quite entertaining Grin

Pregnancy isn't as glamorous as the movies make it out to be - I need waxed from my eyelashes to my ankles. I nearly pee'd myself laughing at OH'S face when he rubbed my leg yesterday!

Hahaha i take it she's a cow? OH'S best friend is divorced and remarried in July last year. His ex wife booked a holiday for his daughter at the exact time the wedding was on and got his daughter so excited for it. He was the bigger person and told her it was ok to go, so she actually missed her dad's wedding. He did his speech and cried when he menioned her. In fact we all did. We paid for the photographer to take some photos of them in their wedding outfits and her in her bridesmaid dress when she came home

Co5mo · 21/02/2016 19:11

Well at least your friends daughter will have the chance to work out that her Mum is a cow when she gets a little older Miley. Good luck to her trying to explain that one.

Dtd is off the menu, I could be as horny as a bonobo but it leaves me cramping to high heaven.

About to try roast chicken...wish me luck.

Pinklily1 · 21/02/2016 19:20

I think we DTD once between BFP at 3 ish weeks and 11 weeks. I just felt so crap, I couldn't even contemplate it. Not massively up for it now but definitely more so than in the first few weeks Smile

Be careful Runner! Did you just slip in the shower?

Pinklily1 · 21/02/2016 19:21

Miley, amazing food intake today! Hope it helps you feel better.

I think my hair is growing faster in pregnancy - I am definitely having to shave my legs more regularly.

LisaTheGreek · 21/02/2016 19:23

For those who have had their booking-in appt, what kind of family history stuff will they ask/do I need to know?

I'm trying to work out if I should tell my Mum before Tuesday, when I have my appt. I'd rather wait until 12 weeks, but I'm wondering if I need her help with family history things.

firstgo1984 · 21/02/2016 19:37

Just about to do a blind taste test with earl grey normal and decaffeinated

Pinklily1 · 21/02/2016 20:03

Lisa, they asked me history of heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes in immediate family (siblings and parents). They also asked about whether I had had various illnesses - measles, chicken pox, STD's etc. I had checked with my mum beforehand about family histories just in case, but to be honest I could answer all of the questions they asked anyway.

The rest of it was about me and OH, whether married, living together etc, whether it's our first child, whether I was happy for my blood to be screened for various things. Nothing too taxing.

They also asked which hospital I wanted to have the baby in, so if there are a few hospital options near you its best to have a think about that.

firstgo1984 · 21/02/2016 20:03

Pleased to report it was good!

Mileymoocow · 21/02/2016 20:21

first that's excellent news. I'm a tea addict and have found the decaf I drink is nice too!

Did anyone have to do 2 pee pots to take to their booking in? I think one is for chlamydia and the other for some other nasty std. We had a session with he midwife at about 4 weeks and was told to take them in.

I'm so glad it's not just me resembling a wildebeest! I'm embracing it for now until I can stomach being in the shower longer than 3 minutes.

Mileymoocow · 21/02/2016 20:22

Also do they ask you the questions in private? She briefly mentioned that OH would be sent out the room for 10 minutes and was wondering why.

Pinklily1 · 21/02/2016 20:35

Miley, they ask you about domestic violence. My OH didn't come to the appointment with me but the midwife said if he had have done, he would have been sent out while they ask you if your partner has ever been violent towards you. They are then allowed back in the room.

I had to do two urine samples whilst I was there. Wasn't asked to do them beforehand.
