Good luck metal and mrsd I'm wide awake with insomnia again and lurking on the boards to pass the time. As it's 1am I guess I'm officially 39 weeks now. Finding the idea that my bump will turn into a real person soon, increasingly surreal!

Happyteddy · 01/12/2015 04:29

Best of luck to both of you ms diddlydoo n metal......you'll have your babies soon with youSmile

One trip to triage makes you realise how close we are to the real thing.

mrsdiddlydoo · 01/12/2015 07:24

Don't think I slept a wink last night. Was still tossing around at 3am...

cloudjumper · 01/12/2015 11:42

mrsD Quick q - how bad are the steroid injections, ie. are you able to drive yourself home afterwards?! I need to know if DH has to come with me when I get them, as he will still be working.

Good luck to both you and metal, how exciting! I've also been told to come to the hospital at 7.30am - but they make you wait your turn, as obviously the emergencies will need to be done first... From when do you have to be nil by mouth? I am not looking forward to having to wait for ages with nothing to eat, I am ravenous again these days!

Pollyputhtekettleon · 01/12/2015 12:08

I was totally happy to go overdue, ideally 41 weeks for work reasons (self employed) and I also feel k no rush as baby comes when it's ready but now my dh has to be away (abroad) 3 days when I'm 41 +1/2/3. My induction date is 41+3 which I'm sure could be pushed back but if baby isn't here before he goes it's highly likely labour will start when he's gone. Total disaster. Anyone know if they'd ever induce at 40+5 due to father not being able to attend otherwise? I'm not keen to induce even at 42wks but I'd prefer it to him not being there. What a (potential) disaster.

mrsdiddlydoo · 01/12/2015 13:04

cloud they do them in your thigh or bum and sting afterwards but I've been fine driving straight afterwards. I'm nil by mouth from midnight except clear fluids like water, black coffee or tea. At our hospital they try to do the planned sections in the morning subject to emergencies coming in so hopefully I won't be completely starving. Actually of course I will be!!

Hi polly I've not known them do inductions earlier but not a lot of experience at making such requests. Was induced last time at 41+5. Had to wait for a bed to be free. Maybe call them and ask?

cloudjumper · 01/12/2015 13:18

Thank you, mrsD! That's good to know.

polly To be honest, I think your DH really needs to cancel that trip. What if you go into labour naturally when he is meant to travel? Is he just going to kiss you goodbye and leave? Surely his work will understand, he should have never scheduled that trip in the first place. My DH often does business trips, but now that I am coming up to 36 weeks, I have made it clear that he is to stay put.

I am so achey today, I want to groan every time I get up from my desk at work! Didn't think that the walking on Sunday was that strenuous, but my body obviously thinks otherwise. My hips are stiff, my back hurts, and my nose is still completely blocked. Plus, I am roasting all the time - I had to get up at 4am last night to open our bedroom windows.

Pollyputhtekettleon · 01/12/2015 13:32

DH is gutted and suggesting pulling out but I don't want him to. It's important work (I'm itself) and he is self employed. Pulling out could seriously harm his long term prospects and it's this work and 4 elated that provides the vast majority of family income. It's also not something someone can stand in for as it takes weeks of prep and reading 1000's of pages. He would really leave them in a very bad position. Without question our kids come first but if there is some way we could swing it, it's worth doing for us. My mum will stay while he's gone but we need the baby to be here already. Having painful braxton hicks these last few days and lower back pain/cramping today so hoping it's a sign that baby will be here in less than 10days.

Metalhead · 01/12/2015 17:32

Sounds like a tricky situation polly. I hope baby decides to make an appearance before your DH has to leave.

cloud I'm not allowed to eat anything after 2am tomorrow and nothing to drink (not even water!) after 6am. I'm more worried about the water as I'm usually really thirsty in the mornings. Our hospital also tries to do planned sections by lunch time, and they have a separate operating theatre for emergencies, so hopefully even if we're last on the list baby will be out by midday!

Cheshirehello79 · 02/12/2015 02:56

Good luck metal and Mrs

I've had no progress at all . Seeing midwife on thur which is my due date I'd baby not here and might have a sweep,

Does anyone know if they do hurt and if they do work?

I can't sleep at night at all now so I've just given up and I'm now officially a night owl

My sweeps never helped I'm afraid. Not comfortable but manageable. I'm a believer in baby comes when they're ready. Might help things along if you are close anyway.

Sleep PAH!

Metalhead · 02/12/2015 06:22

Eviction day is finally here!! Managed about 3 hrs sleep I think...

I've never had a sweep cheshire but all my internal exams were completely painless. Fx your baby will be ready to come very soon.

Pollyputhtekettleon · 02/12/2015 06:48

Good luck metal and Mrs! Very excited for you. Let the fun and games begin!

cloudjumper · 02/12/2015 09:02

cheshire I've had tow sweeps with DS, they were more uncomfortable than painful - but they didn't work, the mw couldn't even reach my cervix. But I had a friend who had one at the same time, and it got things going for her (but she had already started dilating, so it would have probably gone ahead anyway).

Good luck metal and mrsD You are going to meet your babies today!

Happyteddy · 02/12/2015 15:13
