Anyone else hitting 5 weeks today or soon?
Today is my 5 week checkpoint! I can't believe it's only been 6 says since I found out as feels so much longer.

DorotheaHomeAlone · 02/09/2015 09:09

Welcome all newcomers. So lovely to hear all this excitement. We told a few people early on last time and I found it a bit stressful imagining untelling them if something went wrong. Made the scans more stressful so this time we're keeping it as our secret for a while. Does make it a bit unreal though.

Eleanor the heartburn came and went for me last time and is back this time. I fluffed gaviscon from the bottle at home and had their chewable tablets in my handbag all the time.

DorotheaHomeAlone · 02/09/2015 09:12

Fluffed? I glugged it. Smile

Silversun83 · 02/09/2015 10:14

Hi all, can I join? Smile

I got my BFP on Sunday and am 4 weeks +2 today... I think my due date should be 9 May. It was a bit of a shock as it was our 12th cycle.. We'd just started fertility tests!! My DH still needs to ring up about his sperm test results Hmm

At the moment I am feeling incredibly anxious and my inbuilt self-defence mechanism is not letting me get excited! I know the odds are in our favour that everything will be okay but I'm worried that the worrying is harmful so it's a vicious circle.. Deep breathing..

Has anyone told anyone yet? When are you planning to tell work? I am tempted to tell my manager fairly soon as I get on very well with her and it might be good for her to understand why I was a bit distracted!

Hope you're all doing okay and not experiencing too many symptoms yet... I had fairly bad cramps to start with but they're easing off a bit now.. Feel really bloated and keep getting dehydrated fairly quickly so trying to keep up the water intake!

Silversun83 · 02/09/2015 10:17

Daphne.. Congrats on reaching five weeks! I know what you mean about feeling like you've known forever.. Time seems to be going soooo slowly right now!

Daphnedolittle · 02/09/2015 11:15

Congrats SilverssunSmile - I know exactly how you feel. I am so nervous im finding it hard to relax and enjoy it. I keep looking up miscarriage risks which I know is pointless as there is nothing I can do to prevent it.

I have told my parents and my DH's parents and my best friend. I won't tell anyone else till the 12 week scan including work.
I had really bad cramps to start with which have now subsided. I also had mild heartburn and insomnia, but both have improved. I also have sore boobs. I find myself worrying when symptoms go away, think I might drive myself crazy at this rate!!

Loving this group by the way Smile
So nice to share the experience with others going through the same thing.

Brenna24 · 02/09/2015 11:21

Welcome SilverSun.

I am 5 weeks tomorrow. We have told my work and family plus some close friends. In Italy you don't normally keep it a secret and everyone goes with you all the journey. I actually quite like it. Work was a necessity for me as I handle chemicals every day. I am not 'enjoying' spending my day making a spreadsheet of all the chemicals I use and that the Material Safety Data Sheet says about them (No data available is the common entry to date) prior to my risk assessment. Soooooooo boooorrrrreeeeddddd.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 02/09/2015 11:27

Ok I'm a bit worried I've just 2 hpts and the line is quite faint, fainter than it was on Sunday Sad now what do I do?!

AlfieandAnnieRose · 02/09/2015 11:32

Maybe I'm just panicking but I would've thought the line would be really dark by now, darker after 3 days anyway.

ODog · 02/09/2015 12:30

Welcome silver, sounds like you have had a long journey to get here so fx for a smooth pregnancy.

I think I am 5weeks today according to app, but I don't think that takes long cycles into account so probably more like 4+5.

We have told both sets of grandparents, because one guessed and the other would have been annoyed if they knew later on when mine already knew. I might tell some of the nct girls as a few of us were TTC at the same time, so they will probably just ask me outright when I see them on Friday.

I would try not to worry alfie. I have stopped poas for a bit. Fx everything is ok.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 02/09/2015 12:44

Thanks ODog, I'm going to wait until next week and take a Cleablue to see if the weeks have gone up
Forgot to welcome silver in my panicked state! I understand how you feel, I'm a bundle of nerves and want to fast forward to the first scan. Haven't told anybody yet so I feel quite alone in my worries too

ODog · 02/09/2015 12:52

alfie I know it's not the done thing but I really advocate telling a few close people as if things do go wrong you will want support in RL. Obviously no need to announce on Facebook or anything, but telling your mum or close friend may really help. The worrying didn't subside for me until I could feel baby move, and even then I would worry if he was having a sleepy day. Then they arrive and you worry more. It's all part of it so every mother on the planet understands your fears.

StormTr00per · 02/09/2015 13:43

I've told my 'March Mummies' group on facebook (as its a private group) - we all met on mumsnet with babies due in March 2015.. its been brilliant for support, and I know they would be a great support if it doesn't work out. I'm the first of the group to be pregnant again!! I haven't told anyone else.

I'm not sure how the GPs will react, seeing as how DS is only 5 months old; but its not like I am a teenager though, I am 36! I'm going to wait untill we have the 12 week scan I think before I tell them, although if I am refusing alcohol at MIL's birthday this month, it might be a dead give-away..

dappledsun · 02/09/2015 13:46

Brenna thanks for the reassurance, I am sure you're right, just had a bit of a brain fade moment overwhelmed by stinky paint. silver that's lovely news, I have a great friend who got a BFP the day they booked their first IVF cycle, it's one of those funny things. AlfieandAnnieRose do you by chance drink a lot of water (or tea/juice/fluid)? I drink 2L+ per day and have a theory that that's why early testing doesn't work for me (a result 5 days early, no way! not even 1 DAY early!) - I only got a BFP with DS and this time round on the day my period was due. I remember being really worried to with the CB digital tests last time that I was showing a week behind but all was fine and again, I think it's being super hydrated.

Telling seems to be a very personal thing. I prefer not to tell anybody other than DH, but then I'm an older mum and would actually want some privacy if something untoward happened. I actually didn't tell work when I was pregnant with DS until 16 weeks. A few of my (female) colleagues had guessed but were too polite to say anything but my boss was really surprised. Because I'd known for ages, I gave an indication of when I wanted to start mat leave and return (which you don't actually have to BTW) and presented the plan for how my work would be covered whilst I was away. My year end feedback was that I'd handled it all very professionally.

Right, better get back to work.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 02/09/2015 13:56

ODog maybe I should tell someone (I would love to actually!) but I don't feel pregnant at all at the moment so it doesn't seem real. But then I'm not even 5 weeks yet!
I'm thankful for this group though, fx for us all.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 02/09/2015 14:02

Dappledsun I DO drink a lot of water! Thank you for reassuring me, plus it wasn't fmu either (or second or third). Smile

RugbyWidow7 · 02/09/2015 16:09

Hello, can I join pls. I found out last night that I'm pg. I have two ds' aged just 4 and 17 months. I think my dd is 8 May, but also nervous after a previous early mc.
Which apps is everyone using?

AlfieandAnnieRose · 02/09/2015 17:43

Welcome RugbyWidow! I'm using 'what to expect' app, I like it because once you put your due date in it tells you how many weeks you are and what's happening right now. You can even watch a little video!
For each day there's a tip and tells you how big it is (poppyseed at the mo). It's all very exciting!
There's also a community forum, most people are based in America but it's all relevant.

Daphnedolittle · 02/09/2015 18:28

Ooo it hadn't occurred to me there were apps!! Grin will be getting me one of those!

Seeyalater · 02/09/2015 18:45

So sorry for vap, crappy news.
Nerve wracking stuff this early pregnsncy malarky, my first i had an early scan for reassurance at 8 weeks, wont bother this time as a bit more relaxed about the whole thing,
using ovia app as was using the conception one before to track periods before ttc. Im 5+2 today and the little embryo is the size of a bb gun ball! Teeny!

Seeyalater · 02/09/2015 18:46

Ps im pretty sure i have round ligament pain, a bit early but feels just like it.

RugbyWidow7 · 02/09/2015 19:04

Ah yes thanks Alfie, I remember that app so will get back on it now. I can't believe I've been this exhausted this early on and so snappy with the kids! I remember being so angry with the world last time, purely due to hormones, I really don't want to be like that again at such a happy time! Super early night for me tonight!

Silversun83 · 02/09/2015 19:05

Thanks everyone Smile

Alfie, I definitely agree on the concentration thing.. I did my first test with SMU but I made sure my second and third were with FMU!!

Brenna, I wish it was a bit more like that in the UK.. Obviously it's a very individual thing and I'm not normally one to wear my heart on my sleeve but I do wish the culture was a bit more open.. Not liking the whole secretive thing! I have told my sister (who is younger but has two DCs) and I think we're going to tell DH's parents this weekend.. I think I will feel a better once we've told a responsible adult!! Grin

Welcome Rugby.. It must be extra nerve-wracking after a mc..

I was (cautiously!) starting to look into apps today so thanks for the suggestions.. Starting to think about getting a couple of books too..

Silversun83 · 02/09/2015 19:09

Thanks Dappled.. Wow, that must have been unbelievable for your friend.. I know a year is nothing compared to people who have been TTC for years but I literally had given up on thinking it was going to happen.. I thought I was going to have my day 2-4 blood test this week! I think that's why it was such a shock!

Daphnedolittle · 02/09/2015 19:19

Silverssun - I think I was talking to you about insomnia on the pregnancy board? Smile
You feeling any better? I still wake up in the night but sleeping much better with that app, hope you are too!
