Can I join?? Smile

Got my BFP last Thursday and will be due 4th May! This is my first baby and am feeling a mixture of excitement and panic that something will go wrong!

ODog · 31/08/2015 20:26

Welcome daphne. Told my parents earlier this evening as they had sort of guessed when I was turning down wine (VERY unlike me!). I have had progressively stronger lines for the last few days so I am going to do a cb digi tomorrow just because I like to see the actual words. Crazy isn't it?!
brenna do you need to let yoga teachers know then? I have yoga on Wednesday but wasn't planning on saying anything and just working within my limits. The studio I go to have a pre-natal class that I'll join in a couple of months too. I think it's more gentle and a lot of breathing techniques. I planning on hypno birthing this time around so I think that will help.

PearlyFish · 31/08/2015 20:46

So sorry to hear that Vap . Hope you are looking after yourself and that you have some good rl support right now x

PearlyFish · 31/08/2015 21:20

Hi to everyone joining the thread Smile

Brenna let us know if you get invited to a pate dinner!

ODog - that's exactly why I want to do a CB digi too. Not had a chance to pick one up yet, but got another ic positive today.

Excelsa · 31/08/2015 21:56

Sorry Vap Sad

StormTr00per · 31/08/2015 22:01

Hello, can I join? Just got a BFP tonight. Totally bricking it though, as my DS has only just turned 5 months.. I think my due date will be around 7th of May. Still can't take it in!

Brenna24 · 31/08/2015 23:56

ODog, there are positions that you aren't allowed to do as they compress the uterus and no breath holding is allowed so you should tell them. For the most part it is not much different but all our teachers have made a point of saying they need to know and saying why. I also think you should probably tell any exercise instructor for any sport as there are likely to be positions you shouldn't get into.

Hi to all the newbies. StormTr00per I reckon I am due 7th May too as is Dappledsun.

No pate so far Wink

Today was a busy day. Drs first thing and I have my booking in with the midwives scheduled for tomorrow.

Then work, then home and walked my dog (who does not like strangers near me). coming back home from the dog walk I saw something odd on the low wall between us/the neighbours and the street. Got up close and an elderly man had fallen over the wall onto the gravel on the other side. Tied dog to the fence nearby and ran over to the man. He was uninjured and very drunk. No way can I lift him up and I shouldn't even be trying. The weather was foul and it was pouring rain. I didn't have my phone with me and OH wasn't home yet. Nobody about. He managed to get sat up enough to lean against my legs but he could not get up. At least he wasn't banging his head on the ground trying to move. I thought I was going to be stuck there until OH got home from work but luckily 3 cleaners came out of the school opposite and they got him up and said they would walk him to wherever his home was so that I could retrieve my very furious dog and get home. I am not safe to be let out in the world pregnant.

Wait4nothing · 01/09/2015 07:49

Hi guys - I'm late finding this - I'm due late April/1st May depending on website. Known a week and a day now (5 + 4) and told both sets of parents (we stayed at mine for the bank holiday and they were planning a boozey one so would have guessed - so told his too).
Symptom wise I've been lightheaded since before talking a test, twinges for a week and had some nausea and breast tenderness yesterday fun fun fun
This is our 1st and conceived in the first month which shocked us both. So happy and nervous. Dh very cautious about every symptom me lifting ect and I'm very worried about loosing it! Seems too good to be true atm.
Got my booking in appointment on 24th sept but that seems like forever away!

Brenna24 · 01/09/2015 09:07

I have my booking in today. We work fast up here.

StormTr00per · 01/09/2015 09:22

Oh yeah I'll need to arrange my booking in apt -eek! Not been feeling too great, mainly woozy and lots of headaches. It was yesterday's migraine that prompted me to take a PG test.. I was lucky to avoid morning sickness last time, so hope it will be the same this time round. Was horrendously exhausted though in 1st trimester.

StormTr00per · 01/09/2015 09:42

PS ..hi Brenna24 and Dappledsun, due date buddies Smile

Daphnedolittle · 01/09/2015 09:52

When I phoned the doctor to arrange a booking in with the nurse (wasn't really sure what I had to do) they told me I have to wait till I'm 4 weeks late, so 8 weeks pregnant. That seems late to me, is that right?
Also is it normal to have an early scan or is 12 weeks normally the first scan?
Waitfornothing - you sound like me! We conceived first month too and are both a bit shocked! We also told parents over the bank holiday as it was obvious I wasn't drinking wine Grin

ODog · 01/09/2015 10:00

daphne I had to wait until 8 weeks for booking in and 12 weeks for a scan when I was pg with DS so I think that's normal. I remember being a bit shocked at how little medical contact there is early on and then shocked again at how much there is later on. I got a 2-3weeks on a cb digi this morning so I'm finally going to call Drs to arrange booking in. I also got a letter for a smear test a couple of weeks ago, which u think they now defer until after you have had the baby. I hope it's a long time after - ouch

Daphnedolittle · 01/09/2015 12:13

Thanks Odog, glad to hear it's normal.
Ahh...not the dreaded smear!!
Are you tempted by a private early scan or do you think it's unnecessary?

I'm tempted just because the next 7 weeks feel like a lifetime and I want some reassurance that the baby is actually ok.
Has anyone else done this/going to do this and would you recommend? I know there are still risks after that scan but at least if there's been a problem from early on i'll know sooner.

Brenna24 · 01/09/2015 13:10

I thought you normally booked in a bit later but when I went to reception after seeing the Dr they offered me today and didn't say anything. We are flying out to Italy on Friday next week for 10 days, so I thought it was probably just as well to get it out the way first or we will be rushing when we get back, so they will get told to put up and shut up.

I have told my boss. He was lovely about it which I am glad of as I was a bit nervous. He is trying to start up a lab and I am currently his only employee and generating all the data we need to get more grant funding to get more people so it is not the best time for him for this to happen. He could not have been nicer and is now worrying about risk assessing everything I do, bless him. He is a Medical Dr (endocrinologist) and doesn't do so much lab work so he is a bit less laid back than me abou being amongst all the chemicals. :D

I am just going to wait for he 12 week scan as I figure there is not much you could do about any problems except put your feet up and take it easy and I think i would just end up stressing before each scan. So I am just going to try and listen to my body, keep fit and rested and not think too much about what could go wrong. And try not to pout too much next week when OH is enjoying all the shellfish/stinky cheese/proscuitto/Italian wines/pate etc. Grin Maybe I should make him forego them all to keep me comany? Hmm

Daphnedolittle · 01/09/2015 17:26

Ah Brenna I know how you feel. We have a long weekend planned in Devon with 9 friends for a big birthday this weekend. Plan was to eat lots, drinks lots and generally kick back and relax.

I'm going to have to watch while DH drinks and joins in while I have to pretend to drink to avoid suspicion! Not fair! AngrySmile

I am having work issues too. I applied for an internal job pre BFP and have my interview next week, it would be a promotion. I don't know what to do as I don't really want the job now but I know it's just because I'm focused on the pregnancy.
Don't want to miss an opportunity especially as it's such early stages, but I also don't want to piss work off by getting a job that I will need to leave in 7 months. I also don't really want the added stress of a new role and more responsibility!

It's good that your boss has been so understanding and nice of you to tell him so early as well, I bet he appreciated it.

ODog · 01/09/2015 18:53

I was in a similar position a when I found out I was pg with DS daphne. I was honest with work in the end as I knew I would want flexible working after mat leave and decided that they would be less inclined to do that if I took a job and then left it a few months in. I just said I didn't want to take a role I wouldn't be able to do justice to. Worked out well in the end as I ended up asking for a voluntary downgrade, reduction of hours to 2 days and mostly home working and they let me do it no questions asked. It depends how you feel now/think you will feel post mat leave. I no longer have to head space or desire to pursue an ambitious career and would be a SAHM full time if I could. I think after this baby I will take my full year may leave again and then a years career break if we can afford it.

dappledsun · 01/09/2015 19:53

Hi Stormtr00per, lovely to have another due date buddy. Brenna that is quick work having booking in already. I called my GP surgery who seemed not to know what to do (I had DS in another area), and the receptionist wouldn't let me make an appointment Hmm Confused ... I have to call at 8am. I suspect it'll be wait until 8 weeks here, everything seems under quite a bit of pressure, including the baby health checks, health visitor services etc.

Brenna you sound pretty clued up on chemicals and breath holding, can I pick your brains? We're having some painting done in a couple of rooms (organised before BFP) and although the paint is EU regulation compliant, minimal VOC water based paint, i.e. a lot less harmful than the old fashioned kind, and all the windows and doors are open, it really smells and I am worried about what I'm breathing in. Went into the room being painted to open some windows when I got home from work today, holding my breath thinking that was better than taking big gulps of smelly paint fumes and felt faint when I came out ... perhaps that did more harm than good? Just worrying because this is a particularly vulnerable time for the LO and wouldn't have had painting done if I"d known ...

Eleanorflorence · 01/09/2015 20:15

Hey lovely may mummy's, I am here to join the clan, I am due May 10th 2016! 4 weeks pregnant!

I have heartburn, what can I do to help it? Anyone else have heartburn?

Daphnedolittle · 01/09/2015 20:27

Odog thanks for the advice I'm going to have a serious think over the next week if I actually want this job. The money would be so handy but that's not the be all and end all.

Welcome Eleanor Smile

AlfieandAnnieRose · 01/09/2015 20:58

Hi Eleanor I saw your post on the pregnancy board, congrats! And congrats to everyone else.
I'm tentatively joining as I'm only 4 weeks 3 days and feel like anything could happen (chews fingernails).
Right now I've got pain around my right shoulder blade and upper back pain, obviously thoughts of ectopic are running through my mind, but only experiencing this pain nothing else to worry (touch wood) so I'm hoping it's a pinched nerve or something. These first few weeks, months, are so worrying!

Eleanorflorence · 01/09/2015 21:31

Thanks everyone :) congrats to you all very happy mummy.

Daphnedolittle · 01/09/2015 21:45

Eleanor - I had heartburn earlier on, it was one of my first symptoms. It comes and goes now, not sure what's best to take for it either Confused

Brenna24 · 01/09/2015 23:29

Welcome Eleanor and Alfie

Dappled The paints may smell pretty rank but the chemicals in them really aren't too bad and our livers are designed to scrub up our blood before it goes far. Our bodies are remarkable in their ability to cope. Holding your breath for a minute or so won't harm much either. Baby gets first dibs on all our resources. If you think about what some people do when they don't realise they are pregnant and what we used to have in the environment and we still carried on having babies. It is a huge scary responsibility but babies are more robust than we think of them. I think we need to all relax and enjoy a really magical time too.

I am hungry again. I think I am off to bed and try and not stuff my face and get too fat too early.

ODog · 02/09/2015 06:47

Welcome eleanor and alfie.

I'm pretty sure you can take gaviscon for heartburn. I only had a couple of bouts in my last pg so never needed it but I know others who did.

I went to bed at 8.30 last night and was asleep before my head hit the pillow. I do have a non sleeping 15mo so I'm normally in bed before 10pm anyway. I'm sure I didn't feel this tired so early on last time!

I rang Drs yesterday and they took my details and said that the community midwives will contact me to arrange booking in. They also said I can wait until I'm ready after the birth before the smear. it will be many months before anyone is fiddling about down there
