Must not Google. Must not Google.

Juniper44 · 08/07/2015 13:17

Names are tricky when you teach. So many children to put you off!

Poor DD didn't have a name for 4 days Blush We were convinced we were having a boy so girls' names never really got discussed.

I like the name Rosa but surname is double barrelled and has four Rs in it (including first letter) so might be too much. Think Lily is quite a high possibility.

For boys, probably Jacob but I do like Felix (surname has 2 Fs and a 'th'!). Bloody tricky working around the ridiculous surname.

Juniper44 · 08/07/2015 13:19

Cross posted Fisherman.

Hope the scan goes well and they manage to identify the problem. Will you be able to talk to the obstetrician about it?

melonface · 08/07/2015 13:22

Fisherman you must be going through he'll. Nothing usefull to say apart from I hope you get some clear answers soon Flowers

6 days to go til my scan. Will the hours never stop dragging!

Brooke I've been having a lot of stabby pains and turns out I have a UTI so maybe get a sample checked?

We have our boys name and about half a dozen for girls. Think we'll have to find out the gender purely because we're so fussy about names!

melonface · 08/07/2015 13:22

*hell

fishermanswife1 · 08/07/2015 13:31

juniper not sure. Weirdly they've asked me to the main ultrasound department rather than maternity (what's that all about?), and then go over to the women's hospital when I'm finished to speak to the midwife, who to be fair has been lovely and thorough with us today. She mentioned earlier that there were consultants in clinic today. So hoping if tjey do detect something, I can speak to someone soon about it.

Lookingforadvice123 · 08/07/2015 13:35

fisher I'm so sorry you have this worry, but just remember a lot of "positives" from these blood tests end up being false. The fact that your Nt measurement was fine, plus they didn't notice anything untoward at your 12 week scan, means it could well be a fluke of bloods.

I think the 'high' hormone they're talking about is HCG (read up a lot about the Down's screening before hand) which needs to be of a certain height to sustain the pregnancy.

Out of interest did you have very severe morning sickness? That often happens with a higher level of HCG, and some women just have higher levels than others.

You must be going out of your mind but try and remember that most don't end up having babies with Down's, look at frozen! Her odds were higher than yours, and her tests have come back all clear Smile

kep1979 · 08/07/2015 13:48

fish sorry you are having a stressful day - I hope the scan helps them to clarify things - definitely stay away from google in the meantime. Fingers crossed you get some answers from the mw/consultant.

As for names, we really love Isabella Rose, and are struggling to think of any others that we like as much. We do like Florence too, just not as much. We had already decided on Edward as a boy's name, but our girl list is very very short.... when we move at the end of the month I am going to dig out my old baby name books and we will trawl through to make a longer list. Dh is very set on Isabella though, so it may be a short long list Grin

loveulotslikejellytots · 08/07/2015 13:57

DH loves Florence for a girl, which I like, but I'm not keen on the nickname Flo. We really struggle for any other girls names. Everything I like DH screws his nose up!

Boys we like; Henry, Theo, Oliver. All very popular names though. I don't want a really obscure name but I'm an Emma, I was one of 3 in my class at one point and one of 9 in my year group at secondary school!

BlueEspoir · 08/07/2015 14:04

Rather surprisingly, DH brought up the subject of names a few weeks ago (I thought if I did so he would suggest waiting until after the 12-week scan). We're not finding out the sex so agreed that we would try to decide on 2 of each, so that we can choose our favourite once Baby Frenchy arrives. It's hard finding names that are (i) spelt the same, and (ii) pronounced the same, in English and in French. My first name has a "th" in it and so is impossible for French people to pronounce - I wouldn't want my child to suffer like I do when in France! John/Jean is a strong family name for both of us but obviously fails the aforementioned test so I think we would choose that for a middle name (we can fight over whether we go for the English or French version if/when we get to that stage!). So far, our shortlist is as follows: B: Max or Louis, G: Elodie or Alice.

fisher - good luck for your scan.

MissMartin10 · 08/07/2015 14:08

we like
Boy-
*Oliver philip (after my grandpa)
*Thomas James
*Rogan

Girl-
*Mia
*Aurora May

but that's just first thoughts and probably won't have any of them lol

MissMartin10 · 08/07/2015 14:10

Blue my cousin is a Elodie Smile very cute babe

BeeMyBaby · 08/07/2015 14:14

With regards to names, DH and I choose names from his background (so Berber & Islamic) so it's pretty unlikely that anyone else will choose our names.

Tonicandgin · 08/07/2015 14:19

I love Aurora but Dh has vetoed it. Hmm

lilyb84 · 08/07/2015 14:44

We've been listing names for at least 5 years...!! Definitely find boys' names harder to come up with though.

Rosemary is our top choice (Rosemary Agnes in full, the latter was my nan's name) but we also like Francesca. My DH seems to like fairly American names like Connie which I'm not so sure about but if it's a girl I think we're pretty much 99% sure of Rosemary.

As for boys, Luke and Harrison are our top contenders. Yes, DH is a huge Star Wars fan Grin

Carno13 · 08/07/2015 14:51

Lilyb84... I have a Francesca ????

Joey0805 · 08/07/2015 14:55

Bleugh, I now have that tummy bug that's been going round. Drinking lots of coconut water (and feeling like a horrendous person for hoping it might mean I lose a lb or two...old habits die hard).

Kep - Isabella is a gorgeous name, and given it is quite a popular one at the moment, i'd tell your pregnant friends if you're set on it...would make them crappy friends if they chose it too but even if they then plumped for the same name but they couldn't get annoyed with you for following them if you already flagged it as your name...

Fisherman - good luck...

Joey0805 · 08/07/2015 14:56

Oh and DH and I have literally no clue about names yet! Ideally we want something that has a full and abbreviated version (which we both have), something fairly classic but not insanely popular. Who knows what we'll come up with for the short list but at least we know it's a girl so we can totally ignore boys names this time round!!

AlohaMama · 08/07/2015 15:04

Sorry for the uncertainty you're going through fisher - hope you manage to get some answers today.

With regard to names, I'm struggling. We used to live in Hawai'i and DS and DD were both born there so have very unique and special Hawai'ian middle names. As this one will obviously be born here, I feel like I want them to have a very special at least middle name too. We're both marine scientists so a part of me wants an ocean/sea related name. TBH I'd actually possibly go with Ocean as a middle name even though it's perhaps a little more unconventional than we are! I'm trying to not give it too much thought till we find out gender. Also first two names are biblical so maybe following that theme too...

SleepyDragon · 08/07/2015 15:11

Fisher so sorry you're going through this, as a first timer I have no words of wisdom on levels of hormones/oddities etc but I do offer my support with the other ladies.

For the last 4 days all I've wanted is a bowl of Frosties so had some delivered today with the rest of my shopping. Just had a huge bowl for a (very!) late lunch - oh it was sooooo nice!

Bizarrely I seem to have totally gone off oven chips!

kep1979 · 08/07/2015 15:27

loveulots there's always Florrie as a nickname? My nan was a Florence, which is one of the reasons I love the name, but she was Floss - which is a bit old lady!

joey the popularity of Isabella is the thing that makes me think twice about the name actually - both of my sons have classic long (and then nicely abbreviated) names which aren't out there but aren't hugely popular. Yeah I might have to have the name conversation..... I'm actually hoping they have boys so I don't have to, as I'd love to keep our choice secret until b-day if possible.

EdgarAllenPoe · 08/07/2015 15:36

Blue I am half French so very familiar with the pronunciation issues! My parents stuck to first names that were okay for each set of relatives to say, even if they weren't exactly the same in each language.

If it's a boy, pick a name where the last letter gets pronounced in French. Nicholas and Thomas probably won't enjoy the French versions if their first language is English. As for other names, avoid th as you so rightly said, also h unless your helens don't mind becoming ellens.

My parents did however go wild on my brothers' middle names. We have a Renaud. No English person can pronounce it correctly!

lilyb84 · 08/07/2015 15:39

Carno Smile It's a lovely name.

Aloha I think Ocean's a lovely middle name - it's unconventional but beautiful!

Fisher I meant to add to the other comments and well wishes. Have fingers crossed for you and hope all goes well.

loveulotslikejellytots · 08/07/2015 15:46

Didn't think of Florrie!

I love Francesca as well. But then I love girls names that have a long version and a more masculine shorter version if that makes sense. Charlotte - Charlie
Francesca - Frankie

Also love the name ruby, I'd forgotten that one!

MissMartin10 · 08/07/2015 15:48

my dp likes Meegan.. im not to sure Hmm
