This started as a TTC thread about a year ago, which, as so many of us C'ed, kind of fizzled out Smile. Since then, we've been joined by many other over-35ers to share the joys and grumbles of pregnancy in our decrepitude, and watch first our pubes, then our feet, disappearing from view.....

Hello everyone :) xx

Every time I pop on I always start by saying I haven't been on here for ages coz work demands etc takes up so much time but this time it's my new life that's taking up so much time..... :)

I'm thrilled to let you all know I've given birth to a little girl :) a healthy little girl weighing 6lbs 3ozs. We're besotted already and can't quite believe she's a little girl because the enlarged kidney problem some of you might remember me talking about a few months ago meant her chances of being a boy were five times greater than a girl. We didn't find out what we were having we wanted a surprise.

Very happy to share the birth story if you would like to hear it :) it's a positive one, not a scary horrible one.

Can't quite believe I'm a first time mum to a healthy newborn at 42 :) already want to do it again! :)

Can't remember if a FB page was set up....? Was it? I know there was talk of it to keep posts/photos a little more private.

I don't think I've been on here for a couple of months so going to have a good catch up and see how everyone is getting on and if there are any other new arrivals!

Here's a couple of pics of our little one.

xx

Sparrowlegs248 · 02/05/2015 23:53

Finally managed to log in again, stupid phone wouldn;t let me. Am currently at work with not much to do......

Inshock - gosh what a beauty!! Many congratulations, and of course we want to hear nice positive birth stories!!

I am starting to feel a bit uncomfortable, god knows how I will manage in three months. I am finding there are quire a few things thatI am struggling with and maybe need to stop doing. Mostly horse related or anythign to do with reaching my feet. I am not huge but there is a definite bump in the way when I try to bend!

Anyone excited for the royal baby news??

Lolababy00 · 03/05/2015 14:40

Royal baby beautiful... However I wished I'd look as good as Kate only hours after giving birth !!!!

stubbornstains · 03/05/2015 14:47

I felt a bit sorry for her in those high heels.....surely she would have been comfier in leggings and ballet flats? Maybe she's used to them because she wears them all the time though....sad if the expectation was that she HAD to dress up all formally on the way home from the hospital though! (also....pale coloured dress? That'd have me worried under the circs!).

Oh, I didn't look at the forum for a couple of weeks and missed the exciting news. Congratulations Inshock! What a beautiful baby. The photo of her sleeping on her hand is lovely. I'm glad it all went well and hearing that you want to do it again is very reassuring!

I did like the knitted shawl and bonnet the royal baby had (although the bonnet looked to me as if it was on upside down with the bit for the back of the head on top). I'll have to get my knitting needles out now though if I want to finish a shawl like that before the end of September though!

I can't believe I'll be halfway through on Sunday. The first twelve weeks really dragged by slowly but I can't think where the last eight have gone.

Sparrowlegs248 · 07/05/2015 13:07

Its scary how quickly the time goes isn't it? I'm 28weeks on Saturday!!! Eeeek!

Sparrowlegs248 · 12/05/2015 17:22

Its very quiet on here, hope it doesn't fizzled out. I didnt think all the members were on fb.

How's everyone doing?

Gingerbreadlady1 · 12/05/2015 20:47

Hi notta, youre right, i keep using fb instead. Im 39+1 & so ready to deliver!

Hows everyone else doing?

clarkejt · 13/05/2015 09:32

Can I join you? I've been looking for my spriritual home as a 42 year old first timer and everyone sounds really friendly here. My due date is 15/11/15 acccording to my dating scan yesterday. The early days were a bit touch and go because of a clot but it's disappeared now so I don't have to sit around doing nothing any more (I hated it!). Is it just me who feels a bit clueless about this whole pregnancy/baby lark?? I've only ever changed a nappy once and that was to make a point!

Sparrowlegs248 · 14/05/2015 08:24

Hi Clarke and welcome, of course you can join!! Its been a bit quiet recently with a few of us posting on Facebook instead but i hope to keep this thread going - many of us were on the old birds TTC thread ages ago.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! There is a stats list somewhere which I will try to repost with you added when I'm not on my phone.

Don't think i have EVER changed a nappy !! I held my nephews when they were babies.......

Cineraria · 14/05/2015 23:53

Hi Clarke! Congratulations and welcome. Good to hear things are going well for you now after a scary start.

I think the only time I changed a nappy was when I was six. My little brother had arrived at Christmas time and I was pretty much convinced he was a present for me, so I liked to play with him a lot. I had somehow managed to lift him up onto the changing unit, which was above shoulder height for me, then pulled out one of the lower drawers and balanced on its edge on one foot while I removed the old nappy, folded up a traditional terry square nappy, wrapped it round him and pinned it! I was just doing the last snap fastener up on the cover when my poor horrified mum walked in.

I got in a lot of trouble for doing that but still came out of it much better than my brother did. In his mid-thirties, he still gets teased about whether he sprinkles in all directions due to my haphazard pinning skills!

We had the 20 week scan on Tuesday and were told that everything is ok as far as they can see and that the baby is a boy! We didn't mind either way but now that we know, it seems a lot more real.

clarkejt · 15/05/2015 10:00

I'll join the facebook group in a few weeks - we've still got a few friends to tell so I don't want to advertise my state on facebook atm!

For us, it all started to feel real when we told close family last weekend although I have nothing of a bump (at nearly 14 weeks). My husband keeps saying "if it's 7.5cm plus legs and a sac, where is it exactly?" mostly because I'm not particularly big built so I would have thought it would be sticking out somewhere by now.

Have other people bought anything yet? I think we're going to start by sorting out the room that'll be the nursery so we have somewhere to put things.

Sparrowlegs248 · 15/05/2015 10:40

The Facebook group is private so no one can see your pregnancy related posts.

I am 29wks and haven't bought much but have most of the main stuff second hand from my sister, and some new stuff my mum had that she bought for a foster child but never used.

I think I got a bump at about 16wks i think.

Cineraria · 15/05/2015 10:43

We bought somewhere for the baby to sleep last night; it's our first purchase. We loved the BabyBay co-sleeping cribs but our bedroom is dark wood and when I looked before the dark one was very expensive and only available to order from Germany, which seemed a bit too extravagant but when I looked last night, the large sized one on Amazon was reduced significantly so we bought it. I got the side bar too as it lasts up to 12-14 months and I think we'll move it to the nursery by then, so it can also be a stand alone cot if we want to use it apart from our bed. We’ll get the mattress later as they are easy enough to get from a UK distributor.

We were going to make a start by going to the Baby Show in Birmingham this weekend but have both got chest infections more, so probably won't.

stubbornstains · 15/05/2015 10:47

Hello everybody, and welcome clarke! I've gone quiet because I'm just so knackered (37+5 today).

Ante natal classes usually have one session on nappy changing and all that jazz....our NCT course facilitator lovingly created fake poos for all the baby dolls we had to use- each one a slightly different consistency- out of the contents of her kitchen, such as honey, peanut butter and marmite. Now, there's someone who loved her job Grin.
