This started as a TTC thread about a year ago, which, as so many of us C'ed, kind of fizzled out Smile. Since then, we've been joined by many other over-35ers to share the joys and grumbles of pregnancy in our decrepitude, and watch first our pubes, then our feet, disappearing from view.....

It's so exciting hearing about all of you getting hospital bags and baby stuff ready and preparing your homes for the new arrivals. I can't wait to hear when the babies start to arrive. Good luck to all of you due in the next few weeks! Will you all still be posting on this thread or will you have an old birds-new mums one somewhere else?

I had my twelve week scan a few weeks ago and they said everything was ok. The baby was jumping and turning somersaults like it was on a trampoline! I even managed to have the blood test done without too many problems. It has only just started to sink in though (last time I was pregnant we had bad news at the twelve week scan followed by a week in hospital and two lots of surgery to remove the remains and I think this time it hadn't actually occurred to me that being pregnant might mean that I'd end up having a baby). We told our families on Skype the evening of the scan, so we could show them the scan pictures which was lovely as both mums were in tears as they were so pleased.

I had a week off work after the scan and made three new dresses that I hope will fit right through the pregnancy but felt like a fraud wearing them. Today, I hadn't any clean and dry clothes that still fit me, so I ended up wearing one to work. I can't believe how much better I feel without something squashing my middle or unzipping itself every few minutes but I do feel a bit shy wearing it and was glad there aren't many people in the office today! Maybe wearing it and seeing myself looking like I'm pregnant instead of like I'm wearing clothes that are too small will finally persuade me there is a baby there!

Hi everyone hope you had a good Easter, we traded our car in at the weekend for a sensible family car ... Enough room to fit car seats, double pushchair and a large dog in !!
Some of you are near the finishing line... Labour bags ready, in my bag I added clean shirt, shorts and deodorant for other half ( hospital was really hot so OH was able to change as well)I'm hoping time whizzes by for me as I feel it's dragging and the moment at not only is my bump growing but bum is too !!!

Lolababy00 · 07/04/2015 14:15

At the moment and not only...

stubbornstains · 07/04/2015 20:10

Congratulations on passing that huge milestone cineraria! Thanks. Especially since you must have been really worried given your history.

notta, I have just ordered (or got XP to order) a new Moses basket mattress, so have been through this. Most of them are a standard size, which I think (off the top of my head) is 74x 28cm. Some are funny sizes, but there's a website called www.babymattressesonline (is it .com or .co.uk? can't remember!), which does all shapes and sizes, even custom.

Well, still at parents, have completed my course with the hipsters (there were a lot of beardies, but the woman next to me was also PG, so I didn't feel too outlandish!)- feeling very proud of myself that I managed to drive into (and through) London 2 days running with no problems....it was a signwriting course BTW ginger- there's always more to learn.....Smile.

I'm a bit worried about driving home tomorrow, as I didn't sleep much last night- just hope I do tonight. Hate that! Hate feeling trapped by my own insomnia! All that crap about not driving when you're tired- sometimes you just have to, and it's really worrying Sad.

I was 32 weeks on Sunday, and suddenly the baby's kicks are way stronger- to the point where he's starting to disturb me a bit, especially at night.....

OP posts:
Cineraria · 08/04/2015 14:14

Thanks, Stubborn! And we'll done on your London driving. I can't drive at all, so I'm always impressed by people driving to unfamiliar places on busy roads!

I hope you got a good sleep when you got back home to your own bed, even with the baby's strong kicks. I can't wait to feel that for the first time but I can imagine it gets a bit much if it's stopping you sleeping.

Snooky17 · 08/04/2015 15:26

That's great news Cineraria I'm 34 weeks I have had 8 scans in total I feel baby move but it still doesn't feel real having a MC kinda messed with your head a bit. stubborn my kicks ramped up a bit when I hit 32 weeks I figured baby was kicking higher than my anterior placenta but there bones get stronger so maybe they just kick harder. My bag is nearly packed, I drive but my OH doesn't so his brother will take us bit worrying as its a brand new car will have some black bags at the ready lol.

AbsInTheClub · 08/04/2015 22:14

Very impressed with your dress-making ability, Cineraria - any photos?

Hope you had a safe drive home, Stubborn.

Snooky, any chance of a homebirth for you so you don't have to get BIL to drive?

Full-term here!!! But mw seems to think I'm not close at all, and I do too, really - at least a couple more weeks. Which is fine, as I have still not sorted my storage woes! But I have seen something I like, emailed the eBayer, who said he will get back to me in a couple of days with a good deal, once he is back from holiday, so fingers crossed no one snaps it up sooner.

Snooky17 · 09/04/2015 13:33

Wow Abs full term already, don't fancy a home birth, not sure why really but think it's because I have teenagers and Mil lives next door so even if I sent them there walls are thin, would make me feel uncomfortable I think.
Asda have there baby and toddler event starting online on 18th and instore on 20th.

AbsInTheClub · 09/04/2015 17:21

Oh yes, I can see why if that is your situation!!!

AbsInTheClub · 09/04/2015 22:09

Fingers crossed - bought the wardrobe and dresser/drawers change table thingy set! Delivery tomorrow - so hoping it doesn't smell fusty! It's modern, as opposed to the fusty ancient wardrobe I bought, so here's hoping!!!
Then, once I have washed the nappies, and laid everything away, I will feel ready! I just don't right now, and it's because I don't feel organised re my storage of baby clothes and nappies etc.

How are you all?

Gingerbreadlady1 · 10/04/2015 14:01

Hiya abs, cant believe youre term! 37 weeks? Good news re storage, id be stressing too as im abit of a control freak.

Im not too bad organisation wise but done very little on the hypno birthing front. Just so busy so plan to do it last thing at night but by then im too tired! Not great at almost 35 weeks. Ive only got 4 days left at work, scary how quickly it goes from 20 weeks. Still no word on pram delivery & got to order car/seat & base but thats in stock so not such an issue.

Anyone else at roughly my stage, ive noticed very few big movements recently, is this normal & due to baby size?

Hows everyone else doing?

We're away for last adult only weekend in a while to a beautiful wee hotel near stirling, cant wait!

AbsInTheClub · 10/04/2015 14:16

I know. Time flies!

Furniture has arrived - and it is fabulous!!! Woo hoo! Finally. Will wash it down tonight or earlier if DS entertains himself) and then start folding and hanging! Am really happy with it. Phew.

Hope your pram arrives soon. I haven't started hypnobirthing either - did do it last time so hoping I can just remember it!

Have a great weekend away, Gingerb!

Gingerbreadlady1 · 10/04/2015 16:16

Cheers, have a good one too!

Enjoy the nesting x

AbsInTheClub · 11/04/2015 00:08

Thanks!

I did! Everything bar the nappies that I have yet to wash has been hung or folded and tidied away! Am waiting on one more nappy delivery, then I'll wash them all together, and then I am all systems go! (Though if baby comes early, I do have cloth squares ready. Just the fancy nappies not washed yet - probably too big for an early baby anyway, so not stressing.)
We have also had a really good tidy up (hard to keep the place neat with a four year old whirlwind) so if things happen tonight, I can give birth in a good space. But yeah, ideally not tonight! :)

HexyQueen · 11/04/2015 18:34

Yay, glad your furniture is what u want. Can't believe u are both so close to having your babies; there was a time when it all seemed such a distant dream. I've got 51 days till ELCS and am in a bit of denial... Tho hospital bag is ready-ish. X

stubbornstains · 11/04/2015 20:30

Ha, nest-tastic, abs!

OMG hexy, then that means it's 51 days to my induction then, too (unless I go into spontaneous labour before that). DM pointed out that my due date (31st May) is a Sunday, and, even though they go on about old crones not going overdue, it's obviously not urgent enough for me to be induced at the weekend!

I haven't even given a thought to my hospital bag yet- well I have, I've cast an eye over the filthy rucksack in the corner of my room and thought "I'd better wash that biohazard before I take it near any healthcare facility" Grin.

I have, however, been recruiting people for my emergency childcare rota in case I go into labour early- my parents are coming to stay in a nearby holiday cottage 2 days before the due date.

Ah, it's a shock to the system coming back from my folks, where I didn't have to lift a finger (got a good night's sleep before the drive back in the end Smile) to this endless pit of housework- and plenty of work work too, just when I didn't need it! Suffice it to say that I don't think the nesting urge has kicked in yet....unless I'm channelling the nesting instincts of something particularly messy! (rat perhaps?)

Sorry, I meant to answer your movements question ginger! The books say that less bigger movements is normal at this point, although you should still have plenty of small ones.....but any concerns, and it's worth calling the duty MW to put your mind at rest (I'm sure it's at rest by now though Smile).

AbsInTheClub · 12/04/2015 13:44

Ooh, Hexy, the countdown is on! And you, ss!

Where are you, InShock?! Two days til your due date!

I don't think I will be early, so still two weeks, in my head!

Sorry to be a furniture bore, but can I just say, I am LOVING my new furniture! Grin I feel so tidy and organised, it really helps.

DS has demolished the living room again (the space in which I plan to give birth) but I think we can shove the mess into the spare room in five minutes if need be! I need to hide the worst offenders (scissors - there are little bits of paper everywhere, and a human body thing that he has to put back together - but generally he just takes it apart and leaves it all over the floor.).

stubbornstains · 12/04/2015 13:59

Blimey, your DS has left human body parts all over the floor?!?!

(in seriousness, that sounds like the kind of thing my DS would love too- he has a fascination with the human body at the moment. Especially anything rude, like......bottoms! Grin).

I am ROFLing at the wardrobe love here....

33 weeks today; DS has gone out on a bike ride with XP, and I've already received the injury call of the day (went over the handlebars and landed on his face. No loss of consciousness or wooziness though, so I advised they carry on.) I get these calls on a very regular basis Grin. So, I have all day to Be Productive. So far, I have....Got up. Had a huge brunch, including pudding Blush. Erm...that's it Blush.

OP posts:
HexyQueen · 12/04/2015 16:14

Where did u get that photo of our kitchen, stubborn? ;) DP must have had a tidy up as there aren't enough hand tools lying about.

Hope your DS is ok, SS.

Glad your furniture has hit the spot , abs.

AbsInTheClub · 12/04/2015 18:02

Yeah, got to watch this one! :)
Lol, he got it for Xmas, and the first thing he wanted to see is where the poo and pee came out! Grin

:) I looked over the other wardrobes/dressers I was watching on eBay, and I am SO thrilled with what I have - the best by far, and thrilled with the price. I am sure I will get the price back when I sell it on, I got a veritable bargain.

Ouch, your poor baby. DS is bike crazy too (sounds like they would get on!) - we have a full-face helmet for him for when he is on the skate ramp/bmx tracks, but it's really heavy, and sight-restrictive, so he just wears is normal helmet. I dread something happening to his gorgeous face. How is he?

We had a huge brunch too (pretty much do every Saturday and Sunday, then I went back to bed for a nap! :) Lovely! DS did wake up at 5.30 this morning, so that wasn't ideal! Have now vacuumed up the paper DS left all over the floor, but the body parts remain ...

Gingerbreadlady1 · 12/04/2015 18:20

Sounds like a day at work for me!

Sparrowlegs248 · 12/04/2015 20:56

Evening ladies,

Can't believe some if you are so close!! This middle but seems to be really dragging for me, and I am not AT ALL getting on with the organisation of the house. No doubt it will be all last minute....

We too have an assortment of tools in the kitchen. Currently including a trolley jack of all -bastard-- things.

Hips are agony. The pain is also moving up and back. I read there is a relaxin surge at 24 wks so hope its just that and will bugger off soon.

I can't quite get my head round the fact that we will have a baby in a few months!!

Oh and I bought a hypnobirthing book, have started reading it, think I need a cd or dvd too to really get the hang of it.

HexyQueen · 12/04/2015 21:13

notta, I see your trolley jack and I raise you a double seat out of our van, which has now been in kitchen 2 fucking weeks since DP put it there to take out the safety belt bits we need to replace to fit the baby seat.... Ffs, men.
