cinnamon I'm sure you're right but not to give your two anything for vday, it's just that when I said vday gifts were only for mummies and daddies to give to each other she asked when she could get married, with a view to being presented with a box of chocs.

So I decided a heart shaped cookie from the local bakery was preferable to a teenage wedding and gave in!

PenguinPoser · 14/02/2015 14:12

Glad things have picked up FiRaffe and I think I have the same bouncy chair as you! Not built it up yet but sure the animals are the same.

Thanks cinnamon I have taken your advice and bought a nice warm cardigan, and will pick up a couple more cellular blankets.

Wondering about what perineal massage actually entails and slightly scared to google... Blush maybe later!

MoominMama22 · 14/02/2015 15:06

Oh quite a lot to catch up on... Again!
tout I was wondering if anyone else was STILL being sick . sorry that you are. I definitely had a break from it for a few weeks when it stopped being every day but now its back and I'm also headachey and swollen and nauseaus ALL day. I had crazy high BP about a month ago and terrified that all this is preeclampsia related? I really do feel dreadful.

The DH making hospital bag is just too cute! For Xmas I got a lot of Hosp bag themed gifts from my MiL ( midwife) but still don't actually have a hold all.

I had other things to say and ask but now feel too Sicky, sore and heartburny to finish the post. Waaaah! My belly button also feels at breaking point anyone else?
Sad
Sorry for moan xxx

FiRaffe · 14/02/2015 15:36

Feel free to moan Moomin! I'm still being a bit sick in the mornings, but not as bad as you. If you're worried it's better to get checked (bad at taking my own advice!) - hope it's nothing bad

MoominMama22 · 14/02/2015 16:13

I know I'm terrible at getting things checked but first to tell others to. I don't have a set midwife (one I saw at first retired so its just been whoever's covering) and never given a number to call, the Maternity hospital is over an hour away so it puts me off.
My MiL is a very experienced midwife, so I call her ( or DH calls her in a panic) if we are worried, but got to the stage now even put off ringing her don't want to seem silly.
Wish we lived near family and she could keep a check on me! I don't know what other people do without medical expertise in the fam- I feel like I have zero support from my actual midwives/docs.

ToutDeLeFruit · 14/02/2015 16:18

Perineal massage! Must admit I'd never heard of it until recently, and then I was a bit horrified! But apparently it does work if you commit to it, I've just ordered some oil for the purpose from mothercare so I will give it a go....don't think I'll be getting DH to do it though Blush

Hi Moomin, yes, still being sick. It did calm down a little for about 5/6 weeks, I was just being sick occasionally, but it has been back with a vengeance in the last 4 weeks. Anything from once up to 4 times a day, and I can't find any trigger for it to know what to avoid! One day a cup of tea is fine, the next it seems to curdle my tummy and make me bring it all back up. I've lost 6 lbs since it started up again but the midwife hasn't seemed concerned. Ah I don't have the high blood pressure issue, I'm the opposite! Mine has been low throughout, but even lower than usual lately, last check is was 85/45 so I've been having dizzy spells and feeling generally rubbish with it (all on top of the SPD!)

Sorry can't remember who it was - but the paramedics hoovering dream made me chuckle out loud earlier!

daholster · 14/02/2015 17:29

moomin swelling, and headaches with a history of high bp would bother me, get it checked!!!!! Pre eclampsia is far too dangerous to you and baby to leave. There should be a number for the labour suite in your notes. There are midwives there... Just ask and they will tell you what best to do and who to ring. Who cares if they tell you off?!

I slept from 11.30-17.00 and now need to get up! Sleep was broken at 13.30 though waking up with cramp in both legs/feet, argh! Hard to get it to stay out of my left shin, couldn't release it, it was horrid! Think it might have been to do with not enough salt in my diet overnight combined with lying flat on my back Confused and probably reducing the blood supply to my feet! Rearranged myself onto my side with my pillow and didn't disturb myself again Smile I have a sore left shin though!

Craving something really salty now. Dh is still in London, and FIL has just invited me to theirs for tea, where dd is. I am grateful for that. Feel like I'm being looked after today.

Best get up!!!

FiRaffe · 14/02/2015 17:49

Sounds like a good rest daholster (minus the shin).nice to have tea sorted too! Enjoy your restful day!

BananaToast · 14/02/2015 18:01

I'm going to try perineal massage and evening primrose oil - anything that could possibly help reduce chances of tearing I'm happy to try! Still able to see what's going on down there if I lift my bump a little bit and bend right over so fingers crossed I will manage it on my own without assistance from DH!

Feel like we've had a productive day - sorted out our finances as we're moving from contributing equally to bills etc to him taking over the lions share. We're going to try and start living on my part time income that I'll get after mat leave (which works out about my average income over mat leave too) and save any excess while I'm still being paid full time. Think we may also have decided on a first name for baby, now to start discussions about middle name! And we've been to investigate flights to take the little one to New Zealand in September to meet the in laws for the first time.

Now to relax! Staying in tonight with the M&S dine in deal. We don't usually do much for valentines day but DH surprised me with a card and box of Ferrero Rocher - he's a keeper! Grin Does anyone have any nice plans tonight?

PenguinPoser · 14/02/2015 18:03

moomin please go and get checked!! They will not think you are wasting their time. Must be difficult with your hospital being so far away though - but it's worth it for peace of mind. If you're worried about pre eclampsia they will be too.

Glad you had a good rest daholster.

Having an issue trying to bring forward my travel system delivery - mamas and papas customer care phone line closed all day. Went into my local store to find they could have changed it if I ordered the system there - but ordered it when we were in Manchester so they couldn't access the order. Probably need to remember to phone during the week!

PenguinPoser · 14/02/2015 18:05

Cross post Banana - we are doing takeaway tonight - probably dominos or Pizza Hut! Height of romance Grin enjoy your meal!

cinnamongreyhound · 14/02/2015 18:39

Love that image smogsville!!!! Bless her, chocolate is definitely better than teen marriage Grin

I will happily explain PenguinPoser, as long as you can you your arms down there it's ok but I a bit uncomfortable and you need a natural oil (I used wheatgerm oil from h&b).

TheBooMonster · 14/02/2015 18:53

DH snored all night, and DD woke up and started her very best version of 'dada dad' to the tune of 'postman pat' at 4am, so I slept awfully last night, eventually crashed and burned this afternoon whilst PiL were here. They achieved loads whilst I was asleep, we now have a new(er) carpet fitted in DD's room! DH and I are both too knackered to be hungry though, so dinner might consist of pancakes...

hiding one of my valentines presents was actually a perennial massage oil Blush he is very excited about using it, even though I've told him he'll be getting no rewards for it lest this baby comes early! though someone was saying on another thread that it may not make a difference second time round. Quite frankly it's pretty much the only interest he's shown in the pregnancy and baby so far even if it is a bit eurgh, so I'm gonna sit back and think of labour or something

penguin it's the space about 5cm into your foof and between your foof and bum. massaging it is meant to help make it more stretchy so you don't tare.

kis I'm hoping they'll suggest all sorts of useful pelvis waggling, massaging stuff at my antenatal class, I keep telling DH he needs to get to grips with 'shaking the apples' (shaking my muscly and fatty bits to move lactic acid and supposedly lower pain) and he looks at me like I'm a loon...

moo my MiL is a nurse, well a retired nurse now, but she's done a rotation in midwifery, and I tend to go to her unless I've bypassed worried and gone into 'head falling off' and both times that I've done that I've ended up in hospital so I really should speak to her first >.< I'm sure my pregnancy was easier last time because we were living with her and I could mention stuff as soon as it started to bother me.

I've been meaning to bring up antenatal expressing with MiL for some advice and am a bit worried she's going to shout at me though i'm not sure why, as she's not actually one for shouting so am a bit scared to, might just wing it and let everyone know after the fact... but as my boobs are starting to produce something I feel I should start building up a stock in the freezer ready for bump in case we have issues.

tout I also have the sickness, though some days my cyclozine keeps it under control. And my blood pressure is stupidly low, sometimes the consultant / doctor will redo it assuming the midwife has done something wrong...

squatting are they not meant to go internally? that's what put me off, I've got some in the cupboard that I was taking to help conceive so I'll give them a bash if I can have them orally...

FiRaffe · 14/02/2015 19:26

Boo - they were strongly advising us not to express pre-birth as it can bring on labour at our nct . Obviously this is just one group's opinion, but definitely worth looking at the positives and negatives before just going for it!

AnniaFausta · 14/02/2015 19:27

Back from Massive Shop and also have had a chat to MiL on phone.

Shop Of Doom went surprisingly well - we had a go on the buggies and I think we've settled on the Bugaboo Bee, which means we still need to sort a car seat but that's fine. We raided Boots (although they had run out of the free changing bag, shock horror!), and got a few newborn clothes and some black towels. We reckon we can buy the other clothing stuff off the internet without too much trouble, and I'm going to do a Mothercare run on Monday to pick up cellular blankets and maternity nighties/tops, which DH doesn't feel the need to have a say in. So we're now a lot closer to getting all the stuff we need for the hospital bags, which is good!

Have just spoken to MiL, who is Very Keen to help with e.g. knitting things, making cot sheets from her old cotton ones and so on. Although I did have to say that I'd rather she didn't knit a cardigan just yet, as I'd prefer the work to go into something that had a chance of getting worn next winter... oh, and she was genuinely outraged that I was expecting to get out of hospital within 24 hours if everything went smoothly! "What do you mean they're not keeping you in for a week for a first baby??" she cried. "I'm shocked! Are you sure?" So I have solemnly promised to check at my 31 week appt on Monday, but I suspect the answer will be the same... tbh, if everything goes smoothly, I'd rather be at home than on a ward!

Wineandchoccy · 14/02/2015 19:40

I think we have finished all the shopping now, bought Moses basket stand, bought a pack of 6 bottles in morrisons I'm not sure if they were priced wrong but they are tommee tippee pack of 6 and they were £5 they only had blue so if I have a girl I hope she doesn't mind blue bottles, They were £20 in boots for the same ones. Phillips avent manual breast pump is reduced to £18 in Boots and I had a voucher for a 1/3 off, same pump is £40 in mamas and papas.

I had heartburn for the 1st time last night so I've stocked up on gaviscon so probably won't have it again now.

DH is cooking pizza and has bought me some no alcohol becks blue which baby seems to be enjoying as it's doing acrobatics after 1 bottle Grin

Wineandchoccy · 14/02/2015 19:45

TheBooMonster · 14/02/2015 20:08

wine they periodically have them on sale at £10, never seen them as low as £5 though what a bargain!!

hmm fir I know a lot of places say 37 weeks if you're expecting to deliver at term, but when I looked into the research on it I couldn't find any categorical proof that it made much noticeable difference. I'll set my sister on it, she loves medical research!

cinnamongreyhound · 14/02/2015 20:09

Why would you be in hospital for a week AnniaFausta? You have regular support from midwives at home until the baby is 10 dad or older and you're not ill. Tell her you're better of being in your own bed, getting a decent amount of sleep in a place with little risk of mrsa :)

The only trouble will be that the bottles won't fit the bottles Wineandchoccy so you'll have express into the one bottle the pump comes with and then transfer. Although I put my milk into the resealablw bags to store in the freezer so guess it's not a big deal.

PenguinPoser · 14/02/2015 20:13

If anyone is looking for a manual breast pump still - amazon have an offer on the medela harmony manual for just under £20. I was looking as I have one from a friend but some parts were missing, worked out cheaper to buy a new one than sort it out!

Lauren82000 · 14/02/2015 20:48

Only just sat down been very busy today. Went to ikea after DD's swimming lesson, then came home and supervised DH with his cooking (was lamb and veg very nice considering he can't cook) put a table together and 4 chairs, picked up DD from my mums, came back and dished up while DH finished faffing with the chairs, got DD ready for bed and then we washed and dried all the new plates we bought.

Needless to say I'm pooped and my back is killing me.

I tried perineal massage last time but I still teared a bit, so not entirely convinced it worked. I did it religiously too.

FiRaffe · 14/02/2015 21:06

Sounds a busy, but successful day Lauren. Hope you can have a restful day tomorrow (or at least a bit quieter! )

Just had an amazing chocolate fondue with fruit (sorry GD people), which was the best valentines idea I had! Have done very little today - a little shopping and watching rugby!

BrixtonBunny · 14/02/2015 21:29

Happy valentines day! Thanks

DP had an appointment with a specialist this morning for a chronic health condition he has, and the doctor suggested he try a low-histamine diet. We've tried so many different things so it's great to have another avenue to explore but my goodness it's going to be restrictive! No wheat, no to most cheeses, lots of fruits and veg not allowed, no meat that isn't freshly cooked, no nuts, minimal milk, no fermented foods... The list goes on!

We managed to get him a gluten-free burger in Honest Burger for lunch, and then tonight we've done venison steaks with rice and garlic kale. Going to have to be quite creative with food I think!

Hope everyone is having a lovely day xx

32+3

BrixtonBunny · 14/02/2015 21:58

(I've then supplemented our lovely meal with some fondant fancies which I'm eating in bed. Needless to say DP cannot eat these... Blush)
