Just marking my place. Filling these threads rather fast.

mswibble · 03/02/2015 17:45

Place marking! Though I don't always have a chance to comment I do love reading how you're all getting on!

AnniaFausta · 03/02/2015 17:47

I've had loadsamovement over the last few days, including what I can only assume must be changing position from the amount of faff it causes. No idea still which way up the child is, but at least they're active! It's getting to the stage when even small movements are visible on my tummy, although apparently the baby has a good instinct for when DH is watching and will only wriggle when he isn't.

londonlivvy · 03/02/2015 18:21

hello everyone and welcome to a new thread.

We had snow here today too but all gone now. Very glad we rushed out to play in it at 8am, even if it was a faff to struggle into all our cold weather clothes. it's times like that that I'm glad I'm a SAHM. By 1030am I'd gone off the idea (of being a SAHM) as DD had howled most of an hour at playgroup already. sigh.

I get all my kicks very low. Down by the bikini line, which to me, means she's either practising karate or she's breech. eek. hopefully the midwife will advise at 34 week appt but I don't have much faith in their tummy prodding guesswork based on previous experiences. any other reasons why I should get all my kicks so low?

londonlivvy · 03/02/2015 18:27

sairie my DH is massively into cars and had to sell his golf R32 when I got pregnant. We have ended up with Audi a4 sport estate which is pretty good performance wise. Now that DD2 is coming along, we are considering the A6, but really he'd like the RS4 estate. Whilst the a4 is pretty good in terms of acceleration, it's not comparable to the RS4, clearly. i just can't stop thinking about petrol consumption etc. DH says I'm boring. He's probably right! But we have done quite a lot of miles over the last three years. My parents are a 550 mile round trip and we've driven to the Alps three times. For us the comfort on really long journeys has been invaluable.

BTW I don't work for Audi. Grin

From experience, I would definitely definitely recommend leather seats. ours are part leather and looking grubby as a consequence.

Lauren82000 · 03/02/2015 18:32

I think they all have that Annia. MiL was only complaining the other day that she's never felt/seen this one move. (As soon as she leaves the room it's a wiggle fest but I haven't told her that incase she gets the hump about it. MILs can be weird like that.)

cinnamongreyhound · 03/02/2015 18:35

Being breech isn't a problem at this stage londonlivvy as there's still a reasonable amount of room for movement. Ds2 was transverse at my 32 wks growth scan but cephalic at 36 weeks. This one has been cephalic since my scan on 30th dec and I'm 31w+1 now and seems happy that way. Ds1 was head down for as long as I was being prodded and poked by midwives but always back to back and born that way, so guess you never know.

BrixtonBunny · 03/02/2015 18:53

Hullo, just marking my place.

Knackered today - think I'm still a bit ill but I'm so busy at work so went into the office as couldn't bear the thought of taking a second day off sick, and didn't finish until 18:20. Didn't even have time for a lunch break so am shattered. Next couple of weeks will be busy and then it's parliamentary recess so should calm down a bit (then hoping to wind down anyway as I go on ML on the 13th March).

Bump has been very wriggly today though am still getting kicks all over the place so no clue re: position!

kismac · 03/02/2015 19:29

Baby constantly has a foot in my right rib. It's really uncomfortable. I wish he'd shift down a bit.

My bladder is a pile of nonsense. Had a pee just before I left work, then on the train and still had to run to the toilet when I got home. I only went 15 mins ago and feel like I need to go again but tough! Im comfy on the sofa!

Cisforcat · 03/02/2015 19:34

Hi all,

Lots of snow here this am when I left at 6.20!for work but surprisingly the traffic was ok and the world didn't come to a stand still! All gone now so just rain to put up with!

London I think sometimes it difficult to tell which way up they are as it can be kicks one end and arm/ hand jabs the other!! I certainly got both with my DD.

This little fella seems to be bum up and movements generally at the too so guessing cephalic , which is what was DD the whole time and born that way so hoping he stays put if I am right. He was certainly head down at my 28 week app but that was 4 weeks ago. Still got 2 weeks til next MW app at 34 weeks.

I'm just so uncomfortable now. I've had a really bloody irritating cough the last week and despite doing lots of pelvic floor exercises for over a month now, I keep leaking when I cough. ( sorry for TMI- only place I can talk about it!). It's driving me nuts so hope it's a temporary thing as I never had any weakened issues with dD or even post partum!

Joys of pregnancy ey- I'm working til 39 weeks so hoping I can solider on but I must admit I am on serious count down. 7 weeks of work to go ( 30 shifts to be precise!!)

smogsville · 03/02/2015 19:35

Glad to hear you're getting more movement Squatting. Am on tube en route home and have got some here too. Going to lie down on kitchen bench while DH makes supper and see it I can't get some more going before making a call.

Bloody stressful this pregnancy business innit!

Just had quote back for some built in floor to ceiling wardrobes. Much more than I'd hoped basically two grand for two rooms and that's only in mdf and would then require DH to paint them (no biggie but still). Normal size too not big 4 door affairs. Bugger. I'm sure it's a perfectly reasonable quote given the work involved and all the shelving we've asked for but I will be having a look to see what Ikea have instead. Seems a lot to spend on kids' rooms especially as we won't live here forever. Then again you get loads of useful storage for bedding sheets etc.

On cars I reckon the acceleration isn't important to me (DH would love it obvs) but the comfort is the thing. Then again we rarely drive further than Brighton and with two kids I might just put my foot down and refuse to go anywhere bc of all the crap you have to take with!

Ramble-rant over Shock

smogsville · 03/02/2015 19:35

Brixton hope you're lying down resting now.

PenguinPoser · 03/02/2015 20:08

Marking place on new thread!

Have just briefly read through - smogs don't be afraid to phone if you're worried!

Had some snow here this morning as well, think there's more forecast for tonight but I'm less bothered as off work tomorrow for midwife appt and then health visitor coming for the 'antenatal assessment' whatever that ends up consisting of! Plan on hoovering and cleaning up before she arrives.

Seems like a lot of us are getting uncomfortable now - and counting down the shifts at work!

BrixtonBunny · 03/02/2015 20:19

Smogs my DP cooked a delicious veggie pie and mash so have just stuffed my face. Feeling a lot better now.

Lauren82000 · 03/02/2015 20:22

I put the number of weeks left on my work calendar for the next 7 Fridays today! Very exciting stuff. Grin

So proud of myself I have very almost finished the back of the cardigan I'm knitting for the baby. Need some help from my friend at work to do the last 20 stitches then it's done. (And maybe some help starting the next bit) then it's just 2 front panels and 2 arms left Hmm. I've really enjoyed it even if I did go a bit wrong in places. This one might end up on DD's dolly but I have a sense of achievement either way. Smile

smogsville · 03/02/2015 20:36

Movements back to normal. Thanks all. Phew.

Brixton that sounds like a v comforting carb fest. We had filled pasta (ho ho) and garlic bread so I'm now comfortably stuffed and on sofa in pjs. Got a big bowl of oranges and clems to even things out in the digestive department Wink

TheBooMonster · 03/02/2015 20:54

My sassy bloom box came through today, and I just did my first ever youtube video to try and get money off the next box (i think that's how it works?) confused looks like it's fairly simple to wrack up points but I have no idea how you use them >.< the box had some interesting bits in including the worlds cutest bear!

brixton glad movements seem back to normal!

ooh penguin you'll have to let us know what the HV actually do at the antenatal assessment as I've not had mine yet!

youch on the quote smog we got all of our guttering and facias replaced for less than that! We looked at built in wardrobes when we first moved in but freestanding ones looked considerably cheeper...

Lauren82000 · 03/02/2015 20:58

I think I'm the only one going to the HV instead of them coming to me. Will be interesting to see if there is a difference in what's done.

Wineandchoccy · 03/02/2015 21:38

Been to our first antenatal class tonight it was with the midwife on the different stages of labour, pain relief and how to cope with the pain whilst still at home. It was really interesting just need to remember everything she said now!

PenguinPoser · 03/02/2015 21:44

Having a bit of a stress...

I don't know what to do with my baby (when it is born obv!). Hoping some of it comes naturally. Not sure if it's worth getting some sort of book to help with breast feeding/general baby things or not. And if so - any recommendations? Feel like I won't know what to do and will get stressed out, not sure if a book can help with that or if I would be better off googling things as I go along. Or asking on mumsnet!

Also worried as my exam results are out Thursday but they often release them the evening before so going to stress about that all day tomorrow.

DH is being unhelpful, declared everything would be fine and has gone to play on his xbox... Hmm

Hidingthefear · 03/02/2015 21:57

smogs I think we spent a grand on wadrobes from IKEA when we did the bedroom. was 2 wardrobes with 4 doors total. Sliding because we don't have room for them to open. Have shelves at the top with ikea boxes, then clothes rails then drawers. seemed expensive but totally worth it! We have really tall ceilings so we got the tallest ones and there is still room to store my wedding dress and Christmas tree on top.

had our first antenatel class tonight. Was ok. quite a big group of us, and can't say i really learnt anything i didn't know already but the mw did say that the first one was more of an introduction.
They said if we had any questions at the end feel free to ask, but i felt a bit shy (which is sooo NOT like me) but DH stepped up and asked the student midwife everything i wanted to know. it's like he read my mind. I mentioned on the last thread about my hospital anxiety and it was really getting to me but DH asked Q's and found that if i stay low risk i won't have to stay over night if i don't want, and at our birthing centre partners are allowed to stay (they have pull down double beds!), and even if i have to go to the labour ward he would be allowed to stay, it's only if i end up on post natal ward that they may ask him to leave. ahh big weight of my mind. Also asked about home birthing so going to ask the MW at my appointment on Tuesday about the arrangements if i want this.
maybe i'm delirious but i'm quite excited for labour, and DH keeps saying i'm going to ace it lol
oops sorry, long post, keep rambling, just excited.

downloaded my hypnobirthing music so gonna put it on when i go to bed :)

Penguin Obviously babies need food and sleep, but there are lots of different approaches to parenting and half the advice books contradict each other, which is helpful! You need to parent the way that feels right to you, but I agree with you that some information as a starting point can be really helpful. I would suggest you read a few to find one that feels like the right approach to you - the closest to your personality, if you will. And then try to listen to your baby and listen to your instincts, when the baby gets here. You'll get lots of people telling you you're doing it wrong. SIGH. So you have to try to feel confident about your approach.

Lots of people like the "what to expect in the first year" book. Personally I found it a bit patronising. It aims to be factual, but doesn't quite pull it off.

On the somewhat strict end of the spectrum, there's Gina Ford. Almost a banned topic on Mumsnet, I think. Gina never had her own kids but was a nanny to many, and so perceives herself an expert. She can be helpful in terms of having an idea of roughly how often a baby will feed at different ages (they feed less often at 3 months than at 3 weeks as they get more efficient at feeding and stomachs bigger) and how much sleep they should have. However, it's very routine driven (depends on what kind of a person you are and what your baby is like) and thinks babies shouldn't be cuddled that much. She's also big on making statements like "put your baby down to sleep at 8.30 for an hour". There isn't any information on what the hell to do if baby won't bloody sleep at that time.

At the other end of the spectrum there's the "Womanly Art of Breastfeeding" which advocates cosleeping (often extended), extended breastfeeding (beyond a year) and so on. It's a very long book (450 pages IIRC) and it wasn't up my street, but I know some folk who rave about it.

Somewhat in the middle, in my opinion, is the Baby Whisperer. Tracey Hogg is a mother AND a nanny and isn't as prescriptive as Gina (nor subscribes to the entirely self-sacrificing approach outlind in WAoB). There's also some really helpful pages on baby body language - baby is doing x, which means y. I had a bit of a eureka moment one day when DD was howling and howling and I had tried food and bum change and this that and the third thing and then it said cry + bottom lip wobble = cold. I put an extra layer on her and she fell asleep. So I love Tracey! She also accepts that babies vary (whereas with Gina, all babies do what she says. hah. She didn't meet mine).

Hope that helps a bit. Sorry it's a bit of an essay.

Hidingthefear · 03/02/2015 22:05

boo i think I might get a sassy bloom box.
It says you get £10 for each friend you refer, is there a code or something I can use so that you get £10 if I join?
thought i's ask before I register.

ChickenMe · 03/02/2015 22:08

Hi Penguin I've got "The Womanly Art of.." and I'm enjoying it. It's giving me confidence about breastfeeding. My best friend recommended "The Baby Whisperer" so I'm getting that too so another vote for both.

daholster · 03/02/2015 22:08

Yep day before penguin. Mine were out by 5pm. Hope everything is fine.

Don't stress about the baby, it will come naturally, you work out the basics in the first few hrs while the midwife is about, then you muddle on a bit and a couple of days later the midwife visits you at home and you ask more questions etc. A lot of things arent right or wrong - I'd worry about trying to do right following what it says in a book and just getting stressed esp if dc doesn't agree it's right for them... Honestly they tell you what they need. Within a few weeks you recognise different cries and communication. Your dc will tell you - and anyway it's either hungry, tired, nappy, sore tummy, or wrong temperature... Most of which are all sorted by some sort of cuddle! Easy!

My advice is watch your baby... They often give signs before they cry. Dd smacked her lips, tongue sticking out and tried to find her hand when hungry, started to fidget when she was in need of cuddly attention... And had a look on her face which told us a out the nappy!!! Lol!
