Pas Only you know your own body.. if it doesn't feel 'normal' then get checked out. Or for peace of mind just tell your midwife your symptoms and see if she has any concerns.

Though it could just be round ligament pain. I'm getting it a lot around my bump, particularly at the sides. And I could barely walk for about 10 minutes early because it felt like someone was squeezing a nerve in my back and these pains went shooting down my leg.

I did speak to my midwife about my bad back and she said it is common around this time, but if it gets severe they can refer you for physio. So could be worth speaking to the midwife about it, even if it's not anything to worry about as such if it's causing you agony.

Haha Jazzy I'm glad it's not as bad as that lady made out.. made me nervous lol. I will look out for bum wipes for my hospital bag then! :)

ememsmum · 29/01/2015 06:48

The worse thing about my emergency c section was the constipation afterwards! I had a bit of a pph so was on iron tablets, and they gave me codeine which I'd never taken regularly before. Even tho I'd been taking lactulose (poo softener) since about 14w pg it was a bloody nightmare! I believe they no longer prescribe codeine after a cs so hopefully I won't be in the same boat again (not that I'm planning to have a cs!). Have been taking lactulose for the last 4 weeks or so tho. My normally sluggish bowels need some help during pregnancy!
I took some feminine wipes into hospital with me as thought they would be softer than loo roll. As it happened I didn't need them - found 2 packets in my wardrobe last week so will have them for this time around. Wet wipes are also good if you have piles btw...Blush

cuphat · 29/01/2015 07:08

I'd prepared and bought witch hazel and a cup etc but didn't need anything at all after my last minute ELCS. I was straight back to normal afterwards.

Emz1989 · 29/01/2015 07:16

As a first timer - labour nerves are just starting to hit me. I think I've been blissfully naive up until now... Colleagues yesterday were asking about birth plans etc. all this talk of stitches and constipation... Blimey!! Really struggling to associate with that part of having a baby! I'm aware of how silly this probably sounds...

Tryingreallyhard84 · 29/01/2015 08:02

Emz - sounds perfectly normal to me. I go through phases of "it's completely natural, I'll be fine" to "what the hell was I thinking?! How does a human come out of there leaving me alive and well?" Grin

Again, useful tips that are going on my list

Pas - Hope you feel better. I got a bit of backache from sleeping but its not anywhere near incapacitating.

I do have a headache from hell - I reckon its because OH didn't top up my water last night so I woke up about 4am parched and, not a drop of water in my glass to found. Granted, could have got a glass myself but it was cold, therefore, my headache is OH's fault. Hmm

speedbird17 · 29/01/2015 09:07

Orville - yes bit obvious if you know! I'd definitely involve your union or at least let them know, as in our industry they tend to be ever so helpful and in the know about our rights etc. I do hope you get it sorted, and your ground work isn't too dull (I am bored senseless!!)

Just pulled up at the only Mama's and Papa's for miles after dropping DH at work and DD at nursery and diverting to Burger King for Hash Browns and a Latte and it's closing down!! My next nearest will now be in Swindon, so I may have to take advantage of their 50% off everything and see if I can get a couple of things we want/need a bit cheaper.

Sorry to hear of all the aches and pains, I definitely had a rough week at week 21-22 but feel I've turned a corner and am just bumpy without pain now! Feeling quite pleased as at this stage with DD I had put on 1st 10lbs, still yet to reach the 1st mark this time around. Bought some cheap H&M maternity jeans (they had rails and rails of mini shorts in bright colours for £7, if anyone is interested!) and they are very forgiving, but I can tell they won't last as long as my Gap ones!

HexyQueen · 29/01/2015 10:12

At our hospital, I was told there are extra growth scans for prev low birth rate pregnancies (tick), low maternal weight (tick) and having a BMI over 38 I think it was, which is why I've been put on the complications/gestational diabetes clinic list even tho I dont have GD (finger crossed). Means more chances to see the baby :)

As for bumps, mine has been properly popped & proud for a few weeks; like Pregnant strangers are starting to comment on the bump. But I also wear fitted clothes which accentuate my roundness as I love the curvy-ness of pregnancy.

Tryingreallyhard84 · 29/01/2015 10:28

At this rate, I will not be attending my scan today. Trams are getting slowly more buggered thanks to the snow. Sad

AnythingNotEverything · 29/01/2015 11:00

(I can't believe in about to start a post with this sentence ...)

My first poo after my last labour was fine. Bit scared I was going to pop some stitches, but I drank loads and loads of water and that helped avoid constipation I think. Remember most people poo in labour (sorry if that's a shock!) so you probably won't need to go imminently after birth. After my first labour I had iron tablets. That was tough. The constipation was like going through labour again.

And re: labour fear - I think by the end of pregnancy, you're so big and uncomfortable and fed up of weeing hourly/hip ache/swollen feet/not sleeping etc etc that you'll do anything to get the baby out! When I was about 7 months with my first, there were awful floods in Mozambique, and they reported on the news that's women had given birth in a tree. That really helped me get things into perspective Grin

Bump has popped. 19+2 here. Scan on Monday!

Chookford · 29/01/2015 11:03

morning ladies

newgirl congrats on your baby boy, lovely news!

trying oh no, really hope you can make it to your scan, where abouts are you in the country?

pas as others have said if you feel something is not quite right, get it checked out always better to be safe than sorry!

my bump is large... people keep seeming surprised when I say I am not due until May Confused im 23+4 so I may be the size of a small boat by the end!

jazzy snap my dd was born with really long finger nails too had to cut them about an hour after she born so nail clippers are in my box of baby stuff im slowly starting to put together!

Another one for me was normal sanitary towels as I didnt bleed heavily at all after the birth and the bricks they give you in hospital were uncomfortable.... always were a life saver for me! As was lip seal, my lips got so dry in labour i had to reapply it every 5 minutes.. I didnt have gas and air but if you do its even more drying so pack lip seal/vaseline its silly little things like this no one warns you about!

newbie6 · 29/01/2015 11:19

Thanks all, reassuring that bumps are popping with some of you too and it's not just fatty me, ha ha! X

Tryingreallyhard84 · 29/01/2015 11:36

scan rearranged - don't know when to yet.

chook - I'm in Sheffield. All buses and most trams now suspended. Bloody typical. Oh well, at least I'm not in labour. silver lining and all that. Wink

comeagainforbigfudge · 29/01/2015 11:43

newbie6 my bump popped out a few weeks ago. Only 21 weeks.

Had to finally cave and go up a uniform size. And get maternity work trews. Which are SOOOOOOO comfy

It's all bump so far though. Still roughly pre-preg weight Smile hoping I don't put much on as I was already on the heavier side.

Chookford · 29/01/2015 12:05

trying that is indeed a silver lining, great part of having a summer baby! hope you dont have to wait too long for the scan! I kind of wish we had some snow... I love the snow and so does my dd Grin

HexyQueen · 29/01/2015 12:29

Oh, trying that is a pain, hope the re-schedule is soon.

Tranquilitybaby · 29/01/2015 12:32

Hope you had fun in mamas and papas speedbird, did you buy much? When is it 50% off until? X

Kakeypoos · 29/01/2015 13:40

Hi all, I'm new to the June antenatal thread Grin due on the 14th June. Thank you for sharing your great stories and advice! My husband and I found out after my 20 week scan on Friday that we are having a little girl. I am so excited!

Chookford I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that gets these comments, I am 5'3'' and a size 10 and it seems everyone I bump into keeps commenting that I look 'very large' for 20 weeks, especially as I was 'only little' before! I know they're only trying to be friendly but I feel enough like a whale as it is and with it being my first I'm scared I'm going to end up gigantic and with a huge baby that will be very traumatic to get out!

AnythingNotEverything · 29/01/2015 14:08

Welcome Kakey! Another girl to add to our stats Grin

Chookford · 29/01/2015 14:08

hahaha welcome kakey congrats on your baby girl! dont worry I was the same with my dd too and she was only 7lb 14 and was 8 days late! Im 5"2 and usually a 10/12 so I know how you feel! if its any consolation I evened off at the end I didnt really get much bigger..... actually at the end I had people saying I was quite small at 37wks! Confused!!

jazzyjenbo · 29/01/2015 15:07

Welcome kakey, another girlie! They are not far behind now at all. I'll add your stats later on and inbox me if u want adding to the FB group.

I've been stocking up at the aldi baby event today.. 12 packs wipes for £5.99. And got some size 1 nappies, a cot blanket, etc.

Orville82 · 29/01/2015 18:59

Speedbird unfortunately we don't have a union as it's a small private set up & we're not allowed one Hmm. I think I'm going to take the info I have to Maternity Action as I'm all for the good of the company, but I have to be selfish right now and I do feel like they are either in bissful ignorance (quite likely) or they're simply taking the piss (also a very real possibility). Found out today that the other pregnant girl in with me didn't get her Xmas bonus because she'd had 6 days off sick as a part timer, even though they were pregnancy related and signed off by a doctor as such!!! Now THAT is blatantly wrong but she didn't realise and can't be bothered to flight it.

Anyhoo, yes I'm bored silly. Today I went through all my emails in my yahoo account and unsunscribed from all the crap, did a bit of online baby stuff browsing, signed up for a quote on solar panels, had a 2 hour lunch with a friend which included Papa Johns and Krispey Kremes. Oh and I put together 2 manuals. Productive!

Thelovecats · 29/01/2015 19:22

Hello all.
Kakey, I have people telling me I'm v small for 20 weeks at the moment, but later on no doubt they'll be making comments about how huge I am! Last time I had complete strangers telling me how low I was carrying. Basically, people are rude!

Pas did you see the doctor? Hope all ok.

Lovely hearing about more boy/girl news. I have my scan tomorrow- big case of scanxiety...

croon979 · 29/01/2015 19:53

Hello all! Had my rescan today which went well. Despite baby being fairly awkward and wriggling a lot, measurements finally completed. No major concerns. Anterior low lying placenta confirmed so another scan at 34 weeks to see what position it is in then. Next appointment will be at 28 weeks when I need a vit D injection as I am rheus negative. They don't seem to be concerned at the moment about anything. Very pleased to get the anomaly scan done. Here are A couple of pics from scan :). Only slight downer is that due to low placenta have been told to refrain from sex from now on. Anyone else had this?
