Frenetic - so sorry to hear about your travails with the new hospital. Good luck with the consultant on Tuesday.

Long, hope you feel better soon.

Had a lovely first day of mat leave. Had been joking with DBIL and his girlfriend about pineapple getting this going, and she made me an amazing pineapple upside down cake when DH and I went round there for dinner tonight. Am ridiculously touched Smile

longbottom · 24/01/2015 00:36

How lovely Mimosa, that would make me cry Blush

I'm back in the wide awake club, my own fault for napping early evening. Sat watching one born every minute!

purpleteapig · 24/01/2015 03:31

Sleeping on my right side is now really uncomfortable for some reason -hence why I'm wide awake as had to slowly and painfully turn over. Debating getting some toast as I don't see sleep happening anytime soon.

Frenetic, hope your consultant sees sense and agrees to move up your CS - you've def had more than your share of crap to deal with!

GeekyHybrid · 24/01/2015 05:31

Murphy's law in action re sleep here. Hubby is not up at 4.30 for work this morning so guess who's wide awake! Not even like I napped yesterday, and for us we stayed up late, 10pm Shock

We did nip out and order carpet for the nursery, I just hope it's all done and fitted before someone puts in their appearance.

Thinking of you frenetic, you really are having some bum luck with pregnancy, I'm not surprised you're getting discouraged but try not to, the finishing line is definitely in sight Thanks

sandulacek · 24/01/2015 06:49

Morning, also up since 5am. You would think sleep is on the cards after a busy day seeing friends but no not here.

glad to hear memphis and jen are doing well. Especially your breastfeeding success is encouraging jen as I'm starting to worry about it.

Frenetic jeez, you need to have the baby soon get some nice cuddles Flowers

ok off to bed again to see if I can fall asleep. A pregnancy massage later and dinner tonight as it's our first wedding anniversary Smile

jenmcspen · 24/01/2015 07:39

sand I was surprised how challenging the first few days feeding were as we had a very sleepy baby and ended up doing a lot of hand expressing (not much fun at any time, let alone 3 am! Hmm )
The midwives kept telling me to persevere and that soon he'd just 'get it'. I found it very hard to believe and had a middle of the night meltdown, but I'm stubborn and carried on. He did in his own time just 'get it' and I was so proud of myself when I finally got him to latch on my own Grin I now have a much more alert baby too.
I don't think everyone finds their start to breastfeeding quite so hard, but most ppl I know have had a few early challenges. I just wish I'd known in advance so I could prepare myself a bit better, and remind OH not to let me give up (he was actually brilliant anyway thankfully!)
For me, once we got to day 3, things turned a corner, and now I have a little milk monster! Grin

whatever happens I think u just have to be stubborn and believe in yourself that you can do it. For me it has definitely been worth it. I feel like it's really helped us bond Smile

Bang I have my csection on Monday, going into the hospital tomorrow evening.

Hello again Bella :)

BanglesSpangles · 24/01/2015 09:07

Elloo, midwife's just been round to drop off all the stuff she forgot to put in the home birth box (sneakin suspicion she just wanted to check to make sure i didnt live in a tent in the back garden or something!), so consequently the house is tidy, and im up and dressed.

Surprise visit from my auntie yesterday- she's come down for the weekend for my afternoon tea tomorrow- dead chuffed, it was a lovely surprise, although now slightly worried by my sister's comment on facebook of 'now let the fun begin' - hoping this is a throwaway thing rather than something that will involve me going red tomorrow!

Jenmcspen can I ask maybe numpty question for the first 3 days while struggling how did you feed him if he wouldn't latch on ? Did he seem really hungry ? being a ftm I'm not sure what to do first few days if my lo struggles to latch on. Thanks

jenmcspen · 24/01/2015 12:56

soph we stayed in hospital until we'd got it sorted. only 3 nights, felt like a long time but so worth it.

We had lots of support from the midwives, a couple of times they managed to get him to latch, and we hand expressed colostrum quite a bit.

It was hard but once u r past day 3 it is easier I think.

Honeybird · 24/01/2015 14:45

Soph they really don't need very much at first, and are built to withstand a rocky start to feeding. I think my two were about as straightforward as they come - but that still involved a bit of faffing and worrying for the first day or two. When it's just colostrum the amounts are tiny, and then when the milk comes in there tends to be way more than they need for a while.

Honeybird · 24/01/2015 14:47

Very good luck Monday jack!

sandulacek · 24/01/2015 14:58

Thanks jen & honey . It's great to hear the 'real' story! As I'm having a cs I'll be in the hospital for at least 2 days so should have enough support from mws.

mildatheart · 24/01/2015 15:34

So excited by all the new arrivals. Less excited by vile sinus pain that prevents me bending down and makes me feel like my eyeball's about to pop out. I'm so whingey at the moment.
There's do much I need to do but instead I'm just lying on bed feeling sorry for myself.
Plus I keep having the less movement worries. Sure it's just cos there's zero space left but it keep poking my tummy too!

freneticfox · 24/01/2015 15:35

I just hope Tuesday goes ok...

37w today. Does this mean I'm term? Am I term?!

Giantbabymama · 24/01/2015 15:46

Yep, 37 weeks - full-term. I reached that point yesterday and for some reason I feel like the baby will come this week.

Mimosa1 · 24/01/2015 15:47

Good luck for Monday, Jack! Will be thinking of you!!

freneticfox · 24/01/2015 16:00

Woohoo, high five for giant!

sophspot · 24/01/2015 16:01

Thanks jen and honey. I'm booked in the hospital in the morning for induction. So getting nervous now Smile

Giantbabymama · 24/01/2015 16:24

High fives back. Am trying to remain calm as I think getting all het up and symptom spotting will make it not happen!

mildatheart · 24/01/2015 16:59

Nearly nearly there!

Memphisbelly · 24/01/2015 17:36

Good luck for tomorrow sophs take lots of snacks/food and reading material. I was so so hungry and although they gsve ne a good lunch and tea I also ate a massive baguette, fruit pots, crisps, cereal bars, sweets and dh bought me another bag of stuff that night! I got this odd hunger from knowhere!

Regarding feeding I am bottle feeding and with ds he was fine but this baby is a different kettle of fish he is really struggling to latch on or suck the bottle, day 3 and he is finally getting it a bit but was up a lot last night managing a few drips and thats about it. Remember for first few days their bellies are size of a marble and will probably have some mucus build up in there too so dont worry about them not eating much.

A word of warning....due to the shock of my labour I haven't eaten much or drank much since I got home and I have just had 'the dreaded first poo' last time I was fine as I ate and drank lots after this time dh had to take me to bed as I was shaking so much.

sophspot · 24/01/2015 18:44

Thank you for the advice, hadn't thought just how small their tummies are to begin with, just was worried I will struggle to provide enough to begin with hopefully ward midwifes will be helpful. Hubbie has been sent to tesco for snacks also.

jenmcspen · 24/01/2015 18:59

soph we were only expressing 1 ml of colostrum at a time to start off with. really is tiny amounts

LittleMissSunshine33 · 24/01/2015 20:14

Hope everyone's having a good weekend!

Great to hear new baby stories!

Had my antenatal class today ... Wasn't that impressed really which was a shame the next one is about breast feeding and new baby info which is on the 12th Feb! Will I make it (due 13th Shock)

Been having lots of aches tonight!
