Hi

The May thread is so long, thought I'd start another about the SCAN!!!

I am 10+4 and just got my appointmentfor 25 October- I'll be 12+5 then. I can't wait! It seems ages away, just dying to relax and enjoy this but I wont let myself until I know all is well.

Oh, and for those who have done this before, I hear the midwifes tell you off if you get too fat in first trimester- how fat is too fat? I have put on about 5lbs already- will they expect me to diet?

Oi! InTheseShoes! What's wrong with looking like a librarian? I'll have you know young lady that I am a librarian and I am very hip and trendy.

Aherm.

Oh who am I kidding, I'm actually a nerd.

Jessinwa:

Marmite I agree with, it is lovely.

Little Britain is very good, especially 'computer says no' and 'write the feem toon sing the feem toon' but I cannot bring myself to watch 'bitty'

George Michael I fail to appreciate but perhaps I'm too young as I remember very little of the 80s apart from my Mum's perm and shoulder pads.

Midwives are fantastic. I am with a midwife led team and they are very supportive of my homebirth.

Ab Fab I don't understand at all. I can't bear it. What about Vicar of Dibley or dinnerladies? Do you get them in the US?

And David Beckham? He's very feminine! (but I prefer rugby players anyway).

Very exciting news about your scan. I've got my next scan at 10wks and I'm convinced I won't be able to see much more than I did at 8wks. It's a shame about your DH having to go away, my DH is going away for two weeks in November and I'm dreading it. We haven't been apart for more than a couple of days since we started living together many moons ago. I hope it flies by!

How's everybody else?

Morning everyone, just caught up on last night and PMSL. I am a peanut butter lover and most definatly a marmite hater, although sometimes i think i really want it on toast, make it up and then cant bring myself to eat it! So strange...

April when i worked there i remember zena and loved Gwen, i worked with her sometimes. She was so confident and forward thinking, i wanted to be as good as she was.

MKG i would be quite happy to package some marmite up for you and send it over, we could swap and you could send me some Fluff. We used to be able to get it here but recently they have stopped selling it, same goes for lucky charms...oh how i love them

Im glad all the little beans are showing up on scans, it is lovely to see them!

Showofhands, your DH is entitled to up to 2 weeks paternity leave (albeit unpaid) by law.
Have you seen this site?

Gingerbear · 15/10/2006 11:25

Argh, the rules have changed - should be £108 per week.

Hello. I'm 8 weeks and due on either 27th or 29th May, depending on whether my GP or Midwife has worked it correctly! This is my third and I'm planning to deliver at a midwife-led unit. I haven't had any dates through for my scan yet. I had my booking appointment with my midwife (who was lovely) on Friday and she will notify the hospital re my need for a 12 week scan. In the area where I live (and I apologise if this is the same everywhere else in the country), only 2 scans are offered (unless there are complications); one at 12 wks and one at 20 wks. No nuchal fold scans are available and so I will have to arrange and pay for that myself through a private company. As I'm soon to be 38, I've decided to go for a nuchal fold scan. We had a look on the internet yesterday for places nearby and sent off an enquiry email. Hopefully, I will eventually hear about my 12 wk scan at the hospital and be able to arrange my nuchal scan.

I've had pretty full on morning sickness with this one - much stronger symptoms than in my previous pregnancies, which started much earlier (I think I would have only been about 3 weeks pregnant when they first kicked off). Feeling pretty fed up with it, especially as the second trimester seems so very far away at the moment.

I've also developed a bit of a tummy and can't really fit into anything in my wardrobe any more. I've spent the entire weekend in sodding yoga pants and, needless to say, haven't had the guts to leave the house! The thing is, I'm not sure that my newly acquired tum is baby related - knowing my luck, it's hormonal or water retention or me suddenly becoming a massive bloater overnight! Anyway. I'm going to brave the outdoors and general public by going into town shortly to buy new bras (yes, my knockers are now gargantuan) - if I happen to hear anyone say "look at that fat lady", I'm going to hide in the toilets in M&S until closing time!

Thanks for that Gingerbear. Unfortunately when we fill in DH's details on that site it says he is not actually entitled to paternity leave paid or otherwise as he will be starting a new job in January. He has been accepted into the police force and it has taken a year for the application process to happen. Because I got pg before he got accepted we have lost any rights he had to paternity leave. Still don't know what that means for the birth though. What if he's working?

Know how you feel showofhands, my hubby is in the Navy and could be away when im due! As my last baby arrived in 40 minutes i have visions of fielding children jumping on the midwife (if she makes it!)and dealing with it all by myself

Congrats creena, hope the onset of early morningsickness and popping out of your pants dont mean its twins or more
Had you thought of that? Im allowed to tease, i have twins myself

O.k.
Why would they not sell luckycharms or fluff?Does the government have a bias against marshmallow products?

Jessinwa I know what you mean about it still being amazing when you go to the scan. Maybe it's because the first time around you worry and you don't know what the drill is, but after you've done it you can relax and enjoy it more. I'm enjoying this pregnancy a lot more than my first. I know what is going to happen, and I know I will get through it so it is more fun for me.

Clearly government are evil....

Im trying to type and use the mouse while stuffing doritos and dips, its not easy. Im right handed and need it for the mose and for stuffing, the mouse is dorito covered
I know i should just stop eating but i cant, why are dorito bags so big, its just cruel.

MKG · 15/10/2006 14:04

You know what sucks about Dorito bags. Half the bag is air. We really don't get what we pay for.

showofhands: you could try turning up at the station whilst in labour, threaten his boss with having the baby there, see how long it takes him to let DH off then. lol

Congratulations creena, I know what you mean about feeling different with this. I am also pg with No.3 and I had no early pg symptons with the first two. This one on the other hand is already trouble. Sickness, constipation(sorry to mention that), extreme tiredness my poor DH I'm not sure how he is coping with my mood swings. can't even try to blame it on the sex of the baby as I already have one of each.

Ooh Megg, I'm addicted to S&V crisps, usually not bothered by them.

Welcome Creena, I'm 9wks atm and none of my clothes fit either, had a bit of a bump from 6wks. I'm usually very slim and apparently this is why. It's definitely only one in there as well. Only get the 12 and 20wk scans here too (although my dating scan is on the 24th and by my calculations I will only be 10+5). Anyway, good to have you here!

That is so true MKG! Have finished stuffing doritos now, did not manage to empty the pack though must try harder next time.

I made a very nutritious chicken stew today, the throw in one pot and ignore for hours kind. The trouble is having the smell wafting round for hours just made not want to eat it, the mini demons ate it all up though. So back to the doritos for me later then

Am shattered is it bedtime yet?

Largeginandtonic is very hard to make scary. You need to change your name to BloodyMary but then nobody would recognise you. I'll have a think about it.

Oh and it might not be bedtime but I've already been to sleep this afternoon!

I really want a big family. Have always imagined having at least 4. DH is horrified at the prospect but I am talking him round. I was born in the wrong century. In my dream world I would live on a remote island with lots of children, keep pigs, grow veg and teach the children from home. I'm a closet hippy really! I think your family sounds absolutely lovely!

Sorry LG&T cannot think of any gory names at the mo. Will keep trying.

Hope everyone is well and hello new people. I am not going to add myself to the new stats thread until after the scan next Friday.

Had a busy weekend here. Got the news yesterday that DD1 passed her 11+ so we are all chuffed to bits.

Tea nearly ready - roast chicken etc but I don't really fancy it. After catching up with the thread I really want a peanut butter and banana sandwich - one problem though - no peanut butter or bananas in the house!

LG&T,

Don't worry about 1 more. My MIL had 12 (dh is # 11) When I went to Mexico to visit her with ds in February I asked her what dh was like as a baby she didn't know, I asked her what order the kids were born in she couldn't remember, and she had trouble remembering some of their names. Brthdays, ha! forget it. I told her when their birthdays were and she was surprised.

sorry for the crystal ball, but just think where you'll be when you're 67.
