Hi

The May thread is so long, thought I'd start another about the SCAN!!!

I am 10+4 and just got my appointmentfor 25 October- I'll be 12+5 then. I can't wait! It seems ages away, just dying to relax and enjoy this but I wont let myself until I know all is well.

Oh, and for those who have done this before, I hear the midwifes tell you off if you get too fat in first trimester- how fat is too fat? I have put on about 5lbs already- will they expect me to diet?

OP posts:

I had an 8 week scan on Friday. Didn't see much - a yolk sac and grey blob, with a beating heart.
I am booked in for a NT scan and combined blood test at 12 weeks.

ShowOfBloodyAndSeveredHands · 14/10/2006 18:47

Gingerbear, saw pretty much the same at my 8wk scan, got my dating scan through for 10wks, don't think I'll see much more tbh. I wonder why they haven't booked me in for 12 wks instead?

Just found out DH isn't entitled to any paternity leave. So what happens if I go into labour and he's at work? Do I have to cross my legs till his day off?

Can I just tell you all how good peanut butter is. It's like heaven. I don't know why but this baby want's comfort foods like peanut butter and grilled cheese sandwiches.

ShowOfBloodyAndSeveredHands · 14/10/2006 19:11

My midwife says to avoid peanut butter.

Never eaten peanut butter in my life actually. Can't get my head round it. Peanuts? On bread?

aprilmeadow · 14/10/2006 19:20

i like peanuts. i like butter. but peanut butter is just WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!!!!

moomimin · 14/10/2006 19:32

Is that peanut butter and grilled cheese all in the same sandwich? MKG

Love peanut butter toast hot with plenty of real butter on before ( how fattening)

Must admit have eaten peanuts through both of my previous pregnancys, but then they do say or did say? avoid them if you have a history of allergys in the family etc. Quite lucky on that one not a scratch or sneeze any where in our familys.

have just posted on the stats btw, largeginandtonic, congrats on your large family I think it's fantastic, imagine there's never a dull moment in your home!

moomimin · 14/10/2006 19:33

goes hand in hand with marmite I think, you either love it or hate it!

pebblemum · 14/10/2006 20:08

Marmite on toast is lovely. As long as the toast is still hot, cant stand cold toast. Ive also been eating peanut butter. I stayed away from it with my first 2 but the other day ds2 wanted it in his sandwich and i got a bit on my finger, licked it off and that was it, keep wanting it on toast now.

Have just bought a few maternity things off of ebay, all new with tags but a lot cheaper than in the shops. Ive also treated myself to some new boots. If im going to be fat i may as well look good with it. Thank god the days of frills and bows have long gone

MKG · 14/10/2006 20:11

Why no peanut butter? We aren't told not to eat peanut butter here. Is peanut butter not popular in the UK. Peanut butter on celery, on apples, peanut butter mixed with honey and chilled is great, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, peanut butter and banana sandwich. Peanut butter is the ultimate condiment. As kids we grew up eating nothing but peanut butter and jelly. The best though, is peanut butter and nutella sandwiches. Oh and fluffernutters. Take white bread put peanut butter and marshmallow fluff on it and that is the best sandwich ever.

Ladies the list goes on of all the wonderful things that peanut has brought us. If a doctor told me not to eat peanutbutter she would be limiting my diet to almost nothing.

God now I'm really hungry.

ShowOfBloodyAndSeveredHands · 14/10/2006 20:15

"Take white bread put peanut butter and marshmallow fluff on it and that is the best sandwich ever"

That sounds absolutely revolting. By jelly do you mean jam? Always confuses me when I hear 'peanut butter and jelly' because to me jelly is the wobbly substance that I think you refer to as jello.

I just cannot get my head around nuts on bread. I don't think peanut butter is that popular here. I don't know anybody who buys it regularly. Now marmite on the other hand. On a crumpet. Yum!

MKG · 14/10/2006 20:22

Oh no, fluffernutters are huge here. Every kid and adult knows what they are even if they don't eat them. Jelly is jam. Here jelly is like a step down from jam because it doesn't always have pieces of fruit in it. Jam is more like preserves with the actual fruit pieces. Jello is completely different.

What is marmite? Is it like marmelade?

ShowOfBloodyAndSeveredHands · 14/10/2006 20:28

I don't think you have marmite in the states. It's a yeast extract spread. Australians have vegemite which I believe is similar. Do you have that in the US? The advertising campaign over here is that you love it or hate it and that's true. What about bovril. That's similar, but I bet you don't have that either?

So is jello what we call jelly?

MKG · 14/10/2006 20:33

Nope, never heard of it. Specialty shops might carry it, but otherwise it is unavailable.

ShowOfBloodyAndSeveredHands · 14/10/2006 20:33

No Marmite? I don't think I'd like America.

MKG · 14/10/2006 20:34

I think jello is what you call jelly. Jello is Gelatin that is mixed in water and chilled.

MKG · 14/10/2006 20:35

Oh yeah, well marmite sounds like termite.

ShowOfBloodyAndSeveredHands · 14/10/2006 20:38

Sounds like jelly and jello are the same time. I tried to search for a picture to show you jelly but this is the best Google could manage. I'm .

Marmite is truly divine. You should come to the UK just to try it!

MKG · 14/10/2006 20:40

Did you ever notice the character in the picture looks like a penis?

ShowOfBloodyAndSeveredHands · 14/10/2006 20:41

Don't tell me willy doesn't mean penis in the States?!?!?

MKG · 14/10/2006 20:41

You give that to kids?!

MKG · 14/10/2006 20:44

Some people use the term willy but not too many. Anyway I have to log off because if I don't get the house clean dh is going to think I'm a useless wife

ShowOfBloodyAndSeveredHands · 14/10/2006 20:45

I've never heard of them, was just trying to find a picture of jelly!

Happy cleaning, I'm off to bed!

jessinwa · 14/10/2006 20:53

i live in america and i like marmite. there, i said it. also, i live in america and i don't particularly like peanut butter. wow, i feel a lot better getting that out.
toast with butter and a tiny bit of marmite is heaven. definitely an aquired taste. my boy loves it too.
on to less important things , we had our scan yesterday and all looks well. my little one has arms and legs and everything! i wasn't expecting that at all. even though i have done this before not that long ago, it is all still so amazing to me. i feel so lucky.
now to complain, dh is leaving tomorrow morning to go to france for 11 days. it is a business trip but i am still jealous and sad he is leaving. i really like having him around and i really miss him when he is gone. worst part is that ds is one the verge of taking his first steps. i told dh i wouldn't let it happen.
i gave ds his first haircut yesterday and he looks fantastic! shock! i actually did a good job. perhaps i found a new career to go into? nah.
some things i love about your land:
marmite
little britain
george michael (i love the hopeless fool)
midwives (midwifes?, whatever)
ab fab
the ever-so-dreamy david beckham

Hello all, not posted for a while, but still here, feeling fine, but eating for the UK (and now I want peanut butter and jam on toast!!!). Went on a friend's birthday pamper afternoon yesterday, had a lovely (pregnancy friendly of course) facial that was so relaxing and lovely! We went for an early dinner afterwards, and it was really hard when everyone else was knocking back the pinot grigio, and kept saying "I bet you feel really fed up with us" - and I didn't, I had a lovely time, but made me aware that it is hard to socialise when everyone else is getting squiffed!

Was home in time for the second half of X factor, lovely. I feel a bit sorry for the Unconventionals, feels like they were in it to make up the numbers - they all look like librarians, they would never have been pinups for the Heat generation. Hopefully for them, they will get lots of lovely work locally and be successful in thier own right. I thought that Nikita, Ben and 4sure were good, and that Ashley, Kerry, The McDonald Brothers and Ray were awful. I also fancy Simon Cowell, and this is not hormonally related. In fact, with X factor tonight and Gordon Ramsey presenting Have I Got News For You last night, it's been a real telly-slurpathon for InTheseShoes over the last 24 hours. Sneaked in a quick look at Strictly Come Dancing as well, but the women are less interesting than the men.

Anyone else wearing maternity trousers yet? I got some Next jeans from ebay (BNWT) which are ace, as they are adjustable at the back, so at the moment I can pull them tight and let them out as I grow, but as there is no zip and button at the front they are so comfortable - and they are a really nice style too. Also bought some trousers and a top in ASDA last week for work.

Feel I have been pregnant forever so far!

moomimin · 15/10/2006 09:46
