Hi

The May thread is so long, thought I'd start another about the SCAN!!!

I am 10+4 and just got my appointmentfor 25 October- I'll be 12+5 then. I can't wait! It seems ages away, just dying to relax and enjoy this but I wont let myself until I know all is well.

Oh, and for those who have done this before, I hear the midwifes tell you off if you get too fat in first trimester- how fat is too fat? I have put on about 5lbs already- will they expect me to diet?

o.k. what's mince pie?, because it sounds gross. I miss eating deli turkey and ham sandwiches. Can UKers eat lunchmeats. We can't because of listeria. I'm starting to feel like I can't eat anything.

I hate pregnancy books, I'm starting to feel like the tell you how to be a good patient not a happy pregnant person. I do like Pregnancy for Dummies though.

mincepies are : rasins, sultanas, orange&lemon peel & suet (have i missed anything?) placed in a sweet pastry case. We eat them at Christmas mainly with Chrirsmas pudding and custard or brandy butter.

Mummy, although i'm veggie, can I have some of your bacon, brie and cranberry panini? That just sounds amazing!!
My close friend made me laugh. She had been a veggie for years. Until pgy. Then she sank her way through every red meat craving she had for 9 months and resumed her usual diet again afterwards. Her opinion was that the cravings were there for a reason. I like her way of thinking....

I've never seen a mince pie (I've heard of mincemeat pie though) It does sound good now that I know what it is.

hello, newbie here, I don't fall into the UK catergory but I am due in May 07, 8+4 today with No.3. Can I join you ladies pleeeease. Love the talk about food and weight, the midwifes are obsessed with weight here, it's the first thing you have to do when you enter their room. I felt like a naughty schoolgirl at each appiontment with DD, funny thing was I'd lost 5 stone before I fell pregnant so whilst I was being sternly warned about a few pounds here and there, they had no idea.

Personally, any food that you fancy, makes you feel better or that you can stomache must be helpful mentally in the first worrying weeks IYKWIM.

Jessinwa, I moved abroard when I was 10 weeks pg with DD, it was all really smooth change over, the hardest thing for me was the change in customs having had DS in the uk. And the language barrier was fun too. I appriciate that you will be alot further along then but it may be worth trying to reasearch their customs so you don't get too many nasty shocks.

Sorry too long, I practise condensing any future massages.

hello moomimin and congratulations.

These bloody pregnancy hormones are driving me mad. The slightest thing makes me teary. I was reading a magazine and every story involving children/babies made me well up, ds2 (3yrs) turned round earlier and told me he loved me lots (for no reason) and was rewarded by his mummy going all gooey, and now ive just finished watching a film where the female character died and im sat here looking as though ive done ten rounds with mike tyson my eyes are so puffy. Ive got to try to get the redness down before dh gets home or i will never hear the end of it.

On the eating front i had been doing quite well this evening, id only had salad and fruit but then i made the mistake of opening a pack of chocolate biscuits so i could have a couple with a cup of tea, now theres only half a pack left-ooops!!

thanks for your welcomes,

good luck with your scan aprilmeadow, I was with my BF when her DS was born at Frimley Park. The midwifes were excellent I have to say, thin walls though, her DP said he could hear everything from 3 rooms up in the tv lounge. lol, BF said at that time she really wasn't bothered who could see or hear what.

in that case EVERYONE must have been able top hear me!! I always swore that i wouldnt be a screaming banshee - that all went out the window with ds. Mind you i didnt have any pain relief so i figured i was allowed!

Sorry to hear you are feeling so ill Meggle. Where are you? Im in Hampshire and im having a Nuchal Scan done on the NHS, cant see why you are having to go private, doesnt seem fair. If its available in one area for free, it should be the same everywhere.

After i had given birth to ds2 i was sat in my nice cosy room listening to the girl next door screaming her head off, it was so loud it was as though i was experiencing every contraction/push with her. Having just been through it i had every sympathy for her. I dont think i screamed that much though, i tend to grunt much to dh's amusement. I probably sound like a wild boar when im in labour

Hi Megg, I'm glad everything's still ok with your pg but so sorry to hear you are feeling sick. I'm sure you've tried all the remedies too? Hope it soon passes- I promised you a celebratory OJ if the scan went ok. I think I can stretch to something a bit more fancy than that though once the ms has subsided. Get your order in early.

Welcome moomimin, look forward to getting to know you.

Aprilmeadow, great news about the scan. How far along will you be on Thursday?

Mummymelling that's funny you mentioned tomatoes. I usually despise them but I have a real thing about tinned Heinz tomato soup at the moment. I can't even bear the smell of it usually but I have had it for lunch three times in the last week. Weird! My bf craved cherry tomatoes with her third pg too.

It's funny hearing you talk about your different reactions to childbirth. I can't wait to find out how I behave in labour (equally I am completely terrified). As this is my first I have no idea what I am going to be like. I'm having a homebirth all being well and would like to try and do it without drugs but goodness knows how or if I'll cope. I'm normally a very quiet and introverted, calm person. I fully expect to have a personality transplant once the contractions really kick in!

Anyway hope you are all having great weekends. I have been Christmas shopping with DH this morning, had lunch out and now he's off to work so Im going to put my feet up and drink tea for a couple of hours.

Will be looking out for you on the X Factor TYG, hope you've made your MN banner!

The new stats thread is a great idea! Have just posted.

Welcome moomin, looking forward to chatting.

Before i started popping out babies left right and center i was training to be a midwife and frimley Park hosp was where i worked! I was a community midwife so Camberley, Frimley and Aldershot were my areas to visit. The walls are so paper thin i remember that well! I wonder if you have one of the midwives who i worked with April? Its such a small world.

Im feeling ok, the tiredness is not as bad and the sickness doesnt seem to rear its ugly head until about 2ish. That is so weird i have never had that before, its always been an all day thing with me. Each baby brings new surprises.

Hope you are all ok today

Forgot to mention i had a very runny poached egg for brekkie! I am craving them, and i cant bear them hard what is the point! Im careful about the alcohol and pate but everything else is fair game i say. You need something to keep you going, denying myself a runny egg may just tip me over the edge at the moment.....
