Hi

The May thread is so long, thought I'd start another about the SCAN!!!

I am 10+4 and just got my appointmentfor 25 October- I'll be 12+5 then. I can't wait! It seems ages away, just dying to relax and enjoy this but I wont let myself until I know all is well.

Oh, and for those who have done this before, I hear the midwifes tell you off if you get too fat in first trimester- how fat is too fat? I have put on about 5lbs already- will they expect me to diet?

A few questions about ms.

I've been feeling a bit pukey for the last week, but hadn't actually thrown up until last night. Not nice is it! I was starting to feel that funky / hungry feeling again this am and started to eat then had to go and throw up again.

Can eating more help keep off the ms feeling? Any particular tips.

It isn't too bad at the minute, but only 7+1weeks, so have a feeling this is only the beginning

JonahB - how far along are you? Could it be implantation bleeding?

No, it's never nice. I had a missed mc in May - so know how you're feeling.

Will keep everything crossed for you Jonah.

Juciy, not sure what to suggest for your ms but they reckon it is better to eat little and often rather than overloading yourself too much. They also say that if you cannot face food drink plenty of nuitritious drinks. And if the smell of cooking is what sets you off stick with salad or fruit. Apart from that i dont think there is much we can do excpet suffer, isnt being pregnant lovely!! Roll on second trimester when we can all start to feel better and relax

Thanks for the good wishes, ladies.

I don?t know if it is implantation bleeding. When?s that? I?m 8 weeks 3 at the moment.

Juicy, little and often works for me as well. Plain, stodgy food helps me too. Regular slices of bread throughout the day seem to ease the nausea.

Jonah, implantation is at around 4 weeks, but this might put your mind at ease. Found it on the net. Obviously you'll be keeping an eye on it, and perhaps you could call your GP for advice, but don't panic yet.

"Hormonal bleeds. A few women continue to have light bleeding around the time their period would have been due, for example around 4, 8, 12 and 16 weeks of the pregnancy. This is thought to be associated with mild hormonal changes similar to the menstrual cycle. Hormonal bleeds tend to be more common during the early weeks of pregnancy, but can persist into late pregnancy for a few women. If your caregiver feels this is what is happening, then the bleeding is of no real concern and requires no treatment. "

Hiya, 7 weeks today and depending on which site claulator I use I might be due 31st May or 1st June - doctor said 1st June but is my first so have no idea whether might be early or late. Either way scan date is 17th November (wil be 12+2) and then first midwife appointment on 1st December. Seems like a really long time from going to the doctor the first time at 5 weeks til scan at 12 with no other support or appointments to check everything is ok. Am 34 so abit of a late starter

Well, today I had my first trimester bloodwork done. They took an amazing 13 viles. Should have been 19 but they condensed them. I don't remember having that much taken with ds and that was less than two years ago. Scan tomorrow. Am very excited.

Hello everyone, glad there are some more newcomers! Cant believe i dont post for a couple of days and we have a new thread!
It is so much easier to read it all now. I had my scan yesterday, convinced myself i was making it all up and was just getting fat As it turns out there is a baby in there after all...phew. Even better its only one baby, not sure i could have handled twins again. I came away with a cd and 4 lots of piccies, it was so lovely. My dates were 10 days out but as it was a private scan they cant change my due date, that will be up to the hosp at my 16week scan and they said it will probably be left the same! How crazy is that? A whole 10 days is a long time when the hosp are jumping up and down to induce me at the end and im trying to tell them im not even due yet!

So i think im 9+5 today not 10+6. It does seem a bit mad of me to want to be 10 days behind what i was but there is no way i want to be induced as i want this baby at home like my others.

Anyway glad you are all ok and getting fat, just what i want to hear I have no scales which means ive put on no weight, obviously

hello and congratulations to all the new mums-to-be. welcome!
jonah, i am not even going to pretend that i wouldn't be scared too, but please consider that of all of my friends and relatives who have had babies in the last two years or so i can't think of one who didn't experience bleeding in their first trimester. i know because i bled at about nine weeks and twenty-seven weeks last time around and told everyone about it because i was looking for reassurance. admittedly, it didn't make me feel much better about it, but i hope it helps you a little.
i haven't checked the stats thread lately. should we start a new, tidier stats thread so that we can keep track of everyone easier? i find myself wanting to keep a little notebook of notes to reference when i post. am i crazy?
last week we took my boy to an allergist to confirm what we already kind of knew. he is allergic to milk protein. now we have to read labels and make sure that he gets absolutely no milk products so that he has a better chance of growing out of it. poor kid. he is a year old and weighs eighteen pounds. he is a little fella. i wish i could give him cheese and icecream and yogurt to fatten him up. at least he loves meat, veg and fruit. any of your kids have food allergies? i have poked around a bit on mumsnet for info and it seems there are lots of families out there in the same situation.

G&T great news on the ONE baby front!!

Welcome Wasp.

Jonah have everything crossed and send lots of sticky baby dust to you.

Sickness is gettting less and less, which is good. Still waiting for scan date. Hoping its next week. 10+6 today.

I have only put 1lb on, but have been in maternity clothes for weeks. My belly is huge and people are shocked that i am not more than 11 weeks!!

Hi to everyone x

MKG, best of luck for the scan tomorrow. Hope it all goes well.

LargeG&T, congratulations!!! Glad everything was fine and that being 10 days behind is a good thing!! Not many people say that!

Jess, sorry to hear about the milk intolerance. I do know a little about this as I have friends who are lactose intolerant. I?m not sure if that?s the same as milk protein, but I?m guessing it?s similar as neither can eat dairy. I have no idea what?s available in the US, but in the UK there are loads of websites and certain shops which sell lactose-intolerant food, including chocolate, cheese and ice-cream. It would also be worth checking out the Vegan Society website as all the recipes in there will be okay for your boy. Will he be okay with soya-based products like milk and yogurt? Some of them really aren?t that bad.

Well, my day of hell got worse. After a bit of spotting, I then got a big lump (Sorry, TMI) and decided it was A&E for me. I spent 4 hours in there where they examined me, but can?t do a scan until tomorrow. The bleeding seems to have subsided now. They threatened to keep me in overnight, which I point blank refused, so after another examination to convince themselves it wasn?t an ectopic pgy, they?ve let me go home. I just want to cry. I hate the uncertainty.

Sorry to winge. Really I am. It?s just been one of those days. Off to eat more hospital purchased chocolate. What did pgt women do before packaged and easily available chocolate??

I'm getting ready for my scan so I can't stay long. I just wanted to say what an idiot dh is. As you all know I am really fatigued and he knows that too. This morning he tells me that pregnant women don't get tired, and that it is all mental. Then he said that I should keep myself busier and I won't be tired anymore. I simply replied that he's not a pregnant woman nor a doctor, so until he's either he should just shut the hell up.

twelveyeargap · 12/10/2006 13:49

What???? That's stupid. It's a well documented fact (in BOTH my pgy books anyway!) that in the first trimester the huge amounts of progesterone in your body make you very tired and sluggish. It is also the reason your bowels are sluggish too! Tch. Silly DH

There was research out a few months back saying that "pregnancy forgetfulness" is a myth, but even if that's true, (as in, there is no medical reason behind it) anyone who is dog tired all the time will have a slow brain. Simple.

Hope your scan goes well. x

My dh is the same MKG. If i say im feeling rough or tired he pulls a face as if to say 'here we go again'. He doesnt realise that the first trimester really takes it out of you. If only men could experience the joys of pregnancy!!

We would be a rapidly dwindling population if men had the babies. In fact they would have invented a pill to make all the symptoms go by now. Men are such toss pots sometimes.

Hope the scan went ok jonah, sending you lots of luck and baby glue.

I cant eat any junk yet, i just dont want it, im sure it will change though

Am feeling mostly tearful, feel like the slightest thing is going to set me off. This prg thing is so hard

Well we have one little person and one little heartbeat! It was great. It was almost impossible to see on the screen because it's still early (the tech didn't even understand why the office would send me so early). But I did see the beating heart. My ds was laughing when he heard the heartbeat. I feel happy and scared because now everything seems more real. Before was like a dream, now reality of a second baby has set in. Good luck everyone!

mkg, sounds like everything went perfectly at your scan. i hope your hubby stubs a toe or something for his stupid behavior. i don't usually wish any kind of pain on anyone, but a little toe stubbing sounds about right for saying that fatigue is all in the pregnant woman's head. bah! silly, silly man.
i have not mentioned it before but i have been really sick for the last week or so. lots of sneezing, headaches and coughing. it seems that i am getting better but now i have entered the drippy, snotty, hacking cough phase. yesterday i was having coughing fit and i coughed so hard that i peed my pants a little! yet another feature of being pregnant.
on a more positive note, i think i am done with morning sickness. my appetite seems to be back and eating no longer disgusts me. yippee! i ate a pound of cherry tomatoes, an avocado and a bowl full of arugula for dinner last night. it was so good. mmm.
jonah, i am thinking about you and your family. hope your scan goes well.
