Hi all,

Haven't been on for ages - busy at work! Glad to see everyone seems to be doing ok. Isn't time flying by!!!

Have you all picked your prams? My MIL has very kindly bought us a Bugaboo but I'm a bit worried that it's not the best option for us - we live in London and because it breaks down into two parts I don't know if it will be very practical for travelling on public transport. (I think I'll be mostly walking with it but I want to know that if I need to take the bus or whatever I don't need to worry). I was thinking about the Mamas and Papas prametter - it folds pretty easily in one piece and is light and small. Would this be better? Any advice or recommendations would be great!
Thanks
Tinasan

Hi all,
There seem to be a few people not feeling well at the moment. Hope you all feel better soon. I'm 26 weeks today and still feeling ok but I've heard everything can get more uncomfortable from here onwards.

I've got 3 pg friends all due in next 5 weeks, so they could have their babies any time really. I'm feeling a bit jealous. They're all talking about parentcraft and packing their hospital bags, and I feel like I'm ages off yet. At least I'll be able to ask them loads of questions about birth, breastfeeding etc Biggest problem is that we've only thought of a couple of boys names, and we've now discovered that these names are my friends favs too, so I hope they or I have a girl. What are the chances of all 4 of us having boys!

HopingCat · 31/07/2006 10:28

Tinasan - it's good to hear from you. Sorry but I can't help with the pram thing. We've been given a Mamas and Papas travel system which is a couple of years old, so it's possibly not the most up to date thing available. I saw a program about prams and one of the ones they took for a test drive was the Bugaboo. Main problem I think was it didn't fit too easily in a car boot, so maybe using public transport would be easier? I'm not sure, but someone will be along to help you soon I would think.

Delia · 31/07/2006 11:10

Hi girls
hope those of you feeling rough are on the mend.
Well off to Canada this lunch time so will only be popping in sporadically for the next couple of weeks, here's sending thoughts for you all over this time.....

Charlee · 31/07/2006 11:35

Morning ladies

My pains have stopped now, i really worried DP he thought i was in labour yesterday! Luckily i wasnt.

Cant belive its going so quick only 15 weeks to go now though saying that im not sure i have 15 weeks of growing room left as you can basically see the out line of baby in my bump where its so cramped for space! Its like something livig under my skin people stare becuase everytime baby moves you can clearly see a hand or foot sticking out my stomach!

Anyone have stretch marks yet? i have a few just abouve my belly button, i had the whole english road map on my stomach with DS so it wouldnt suprise me if i did this time to.

My bellybutton is on its way out to nearly popped, it never got there with DS so it will be funny if it does this time.

I hope everyone else is ok today and i hope your all feeling better, i had the worst pg last time and i know how your all feeling so hugs all round. xxx

Good Afternoon all, Still not sleeping well getting about 4 hours a night and getting pins and needles mainly in right hand but also in left as well, during the day fingers feel a bit numb anyone else having this? Reading the internet about this can be quite worrying !!!! LOL

Bethbe · 31/07/2006 16:13

Blimey, you all seem so advanced. I'm 24+1 and only told work on Friday that I was pregnant and they were all genuinely shocked. I do wear suits though, and jackets really hide things.

A blunt friend came round for tea yesterday and told me I don't look pregnant but that I have a fat tummy (lucky I've known her for years otherwise the friendship might not have lasted).

I have put on over a stone though, but it's my bum/thighs etc. Is anyone else in this position or am I just having a wierd time of it?

HopingCat · 31/07/2006 16:59

Debz - I was told at the hospital that this is a common pregnancy complaint. A lot of people get swollen hands and feet when pregnant, and I was told the pins and needles is often related to this. I don't look like I've got swollen hands but I do sometimes get pins and needles in them, mainly at night. It could also be carpel tunnel syndrome, which I'm sure someone on here said they have had in a previous pregnancy. I don't think it's a big worry, but I'd ask your midwife at next appointment. I think swelling is only a concern when it is later on and your face swells as well as hands and feet. Hope this helps. I'm no expert, I'm only repeating what I've been told!

I'm off to Scotland now for the rest of the week, so hope everyone stays well, and that those who are ill get better soon.

Charlee · 31/07/2006 17:32

Debz - im suffering with the pins and needles and aching wrists its carpal tunnel syndrome, my midwifes booked me in for physio so i can get a wrist splint apparently its quite common so i wouldnt worry unless your face swells and you get headaches ect later on in the pg as it can mean pre eclampsea. You can also get the wrist splints a chemists they cost about £12.

As for buggies im getting one from Argos, its £99 and comes with car seat that attaches, rain cover, changing bag and cozy toes.

Hi All, I suppose I could join this thread really.
My due date is early Dec, but having an elective c/section at 38 weeks too-so late Nov.

I already have a (2 in August) DD.

Charlee · 31/07/2006 20:18

Welcome Calmriver!

Do you mind me asking why your having a c-section? (sorry i am incredably nosey)

Im hoping for an elective induction.

Calmriver · 31/07/2006 20:28

I had one with my DD, so chose to for new baby too. They aren't as bad as everyone makes out. I actually enjoyed the first one, just takes a little longer to recover.

We could have our little ones around the same time.

This is your 2nd too isn't it?

Charlee · 31/07/2006 20:34

Yes it is, i was just curious becuase i dont think my hospital do elective c-sections without there being serious health risks or i would certainly opted for one this time.

I didnt have a really bad time with my first labour i just didn't like the complications my medication causes.

If i get my elective induction though it will be for the 21st Nov (due date)

Though saying that my midwife keeps saying how big the baby is and its apparently lying in an awkward position from which they dont usually move out of, if this is the case i will be haing a c-section im not giving birth to a back first baby!

Debz99 · 01/08/2006 07:57

Thanks to the ladies for the advice, it's not a real worry to me is just a PITA being woken up by the pins and needles or needing a wee or baby kicking the life out of me it's no wonder i'm getting 4 hours sleep really LOL oh well only another 2 and a half months at work and maybe I might be able to get a lie in before LO arrives !!!

NatalieJane · 01/08/2006 10:38

Hello everyone

I am feeling loads better today, still coughing and spluttering everytime I try and talk but still tonnes better than I was! I think I have pulled just about every muscle in my belly, and DH says I have lost even more weight, but baby is still moving around loads so I am quite happy that he is doing OK through it all

I did indulge in a bit of internet shopping that I probably wouldn't have done had I been well, and I got the sort of things that no one actually needs for a nursery, but that will look bloody lovely in there!! LOL Just little trinkets and photo frames that sort of thing, also got some lovely muslins that have George embroidered on them, and some other nice things that are personalised, I am now on tender hooks waiting for the postie to arrive!! We have a double porch, the door bell runs out of batteries within 5 minutes of putting new ones in (and it is a special battery that costs a fiver a pop!) so the bell isn't working, and the postie has never realised that when he stands and knocks on the outer porch door, I can't hear him, which means when I am expecting something I have to sit in a certain position in the living room for as long as I can to try and catch him walking up the drive!

I hope everyone else who has been feeling poorly is on the mend, and those off on holiday have a great time (not that I am jealous at all you understand!! )

Re: pushchairs, I still haven't decided completely, I had decided on the Loola, but, now we know it is a boy, I just can't bring myself to buy a pushchair that has a girls name plastered all over it. I have looked at things like the Mutsy and the Silver Cross 3D, but TBH they seem like a lot of money for something that although is needed, doesn't have to cost more than a months mortgage! Where I am finding it hard to decide is I keep swapping and changing my mind about whether I would like a carry cot with it or not, half of me thinks it is lovely to see a new born in a 'proper' pram, but then the other half of me thinks, bus, 4 year old to worry about as well, and a small town centre, doesn't really bode well for a 'proper' pram! My sister works for a posh baby shop and she keeps going on about the Bugaboo, I must say even if I was going to pay that much for a buggy, the look of that thing would make me run a mile, I am not keen on it at all!! I think we may go down the route of a good old Graco, DS's never let us down, although it was a bit cumbersome, but they are a lot smaller now than they were five years ago, I like the look of the Quattro Tour Deluxe travel system, so will probably go for something along those lines.

The weather has finally broken, we have had nothing but rain since yesterday morning, not a good way to start August!!

Anyway, enough of me going on, can you tell I am feeling better?!! TC everyone xxx

Hi All! Just got back from holidays and I'm sorry that I haven't been able to catch up yet with all that has been going on. Hope you all are well. We had a good holiday but very glad to be back - but not looking forward the dealing with jetlag over the next couple of days. DS2 was up this morning at 5am after a very sleepless night with 2 boys in bed with us.
