I've got the dreaded lurgy [paints red cross on front door]. Asked DH to take the day off work but he wouldn't so I brought DS3 and DS4 into our bed, staggered downstairs to get sterilized bottles, cartons of formula milk, graze boxes and Thomas DVDs. DH's granddad is picking up the older 2 from school and I have swapped my school play ticket from todays performance to tomorrows.

[pauses to puke again]

My main problem now is that I'm not eating because when I do I'm getting the runs. Because I'm not eating the morning sickness is getting worse. Any tips on how to break the cycle? lurgy is getting a bit better but still at the can't face food stage. Also worry that if I eat anything I'll be on the loo all night (again).

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 17/12/2013 15:27

ask GP if you can have Diarolyte to combat the runs.

and they might prescribe you anti sickness tablets if you can't keep anything down.

try carby things that are digested quickly like bread sticks or plain brioche (which is sweet, and I prefer it as it doesn't leave a sour aftertaste)

or rice or baked potatoes.
simple stuff.

if you can't eat anything then eat spoonfuls of high factor manuka honey - it's sweet so probably well tolerated, will give you energy, it's antiviral & antibacterial too, and contains some vitamins and minerals.

poor you.Thanks

ismarah I took your advice in the form of a nice long bath (with accompanying sick basin of course) and am now tucked up watching a private practice boxset - I'm feeling much better thanks Smile Its difficult feeling so rough and useless but I guess I will just have to stop beating myself up so much about it and try and go with the flow - if my body needs 14hours of sleep a day at the moment then I guess that's just the way it is! Its so wrong that we feel like we are just being lazy frauds - I feel that all the time too but I just think its because I don't remember what its like to have energy at the moment! I feel for all the OHs at the moment - it must be hard for them to understand as they cant experience exactly what it feels like to be pregnant. I know my DH shares my excitement and is a little scared of being a first time dad, as I am of being a mum, but I dont think its as 'real' for him as for me yet because despite the fact he is having to look after me he can still go to work etc and compartmentalise because he isn't feeling the effects of carrying another person inside him iykwim?

ellie I sympathise with you and your bug and hope you feels better soon. I feel so rough I can barely look after myself at the moment so I am in awe of all you ladies with children to look after at the same time!Smile

Thanks Zing and Ipsumlorem. I will ask DH to get some dyiarolyte. Managed to keep an ice lolly down earlier so hopefully the worst is over. Although DS3 has had an explosion in his nappy again (sigh). Unfortunately the rule for anti-sickness meds at my surgery is you can only have them if you stop weeing for 24 hours. I leak a bit of wee every time I puke so I'm stuffed. Just 2 hours until DH gets home and I can go back to bed.

Awww ipsum, I'm sure this won't make it any easier, but lots and lots of women go through what you are to varying degrees. You have tried your absolute best to keep going, but it's just so horrible. Bed is the best place for you until you start to feel better, hopefully soon!

We were meant to tell my mum this weekend, but it didn't seem the right time. I'm desperate not to do it at Christmas as we're all going away and dh and I hate being centre of attention. We told my dad yesterday, who was over the moon. He is so lovely.

Ellie When they say no wee for 24hrs, they mean a full size, emptying the bladder type of wee, not just trickles. If there's no full wee for 24hrs then you might actually end up in A&E for IV fluids - I was about 4hrs off of that a few weeks ago! If your GP/clinic is not very nice (mine isn't) you can call NHS Direct and they will direct your clinic as to what to do. You can have Dioralyte and any other electrolyte drink (Powerade, Gatorade etc - I couldn't stomach the Dioralyte and it went straight in the bin) that might help you. You can also have Avomine if it's been prescribed for you (despite what the label says re pregnancy) - I found it quite helpful, even if it was mainly in my head / for my nerves.

My trick to allow my stomach to start to settle when you're stuck in that vicious circle of vom / hunger / diarrhoea is to chew a Tums or two and then eat some plain salted nachos. It's not horrible to throw up and I find it very settling for the stomach, more so than wheat-based products. Oaty things also work very well for me.

Tums are fine in pregnancy (provided they are fine for you in the first place) and you take about half the allowed dose over 24hrs. Might be useful to know later on when the heartburn kicks in..

Hello!

Sorry people are feeling so rubbish. My nausea has almost gone. I had got more energy - well felt less tired - but last night and tonight I came in from work and straight to bed. Christmas break can't come early enough!

First time today - I didn't wear a scarf to work. I felt so exposed with my tummy on view. Not good. Must plan clothes better tomorrow!

Tomorrow afternoon I have my nuchal. I'm getting really nervous. DH isn't coming. We've gone for Harmony - but my mental mw insisted I should be dated "properly" at the hospital. So DH isn't coming as we've written this off as 'not a proper appointment'. I didn't put up too Mich of a fight, as although I hate hospitals, I'm intrigued to see what it's like as I've not visited before. I'm nervous now though as I'm not sure how I'll cope if it's bad (or confusing) news? Our harmony results and fmc nuchal are booked in for Christmas eve. DH has time booked off work for this.

Ho hum!

It's funny-i came on to have a moan about my super stroppy got out of bed the wrong side DH who's been in a foul mood all day with me getting the brunt end of it...but see that others have had much worse days than me Blush so actually feel rather less sorry for myself!

So sorry about the bug Ellie that's rotten! And Ips well done for staying home and resting! jay I'm much less aware of my bulging tum this time as I don't have to wear work clothes everyday but know I was v conscious about what I was wearing last time!

Big pile of sympathy for everyone feeling rotten today.

Worst nausea day so far, but survived work Xmas do without puking or getting an inquisition about not drinking, so that's a result. And in 48hrs will have had scan, so hopefully will have a bit of clarity, one way or another...keep on moving forwards!

Whoops, posted on the old thread. I missed the new link on my phone!

Repost of my news:

Just back from my first midwife appointment. Had an unexpected scan! I'm in the US and I think they scan more here. Glad I didn't know in advance as I would've been so nervous. Thankfully DH was with me. All on track and measuring the same as dates. Good strong heartbeat grin. So happy to know before Christmas especially as my mum arrives on Saturday.

Next scan in three weeks. Need to go and have bloods in two weeks. Including a DNA test and when we get the results we'll find out the sex. Guessing it might be similar to harmony? Was offered it as I'll be 35 when baby born.

It's all very different to my early appointments and scans with the nhs.

Hiya,
wow a 3rd thread wonder how many we will get through.
I havnt been on for a few days so nee to catch up on everything.

I went for a 2nd scan yesterday and have unfortunately lost twin 2 Sad. Twin 1 seems unaffected and I got to see and hear a nice strong heartbeat. I'm obviously feeling down about it but am really trying to focus on the fact iv passed 8 weeks now and am still pregnant with one healthy baby which is of course still a blessing. I'm now 9+1 by LMP, or 8+3 by scan dates - which matches conception.

Had my booking ap last week & 12 were scan is booked for

Oops sorry posted to soon,

Scan booked for 9th Jan.

Feeling so sick constantly am really struggling especially when at 10.40pm my toddler is still awake (we fell asleep at 4-6pm on the sofa so no idea what time he's going to be sleepy).
Havnt actually been sick but feel I'm about 3 seconds away from it from the minute I wake up to the minute I go to bed :( I'm sucking pear drops which helps a little and takes the horrible taste out of my mouth but can't take much more of feeling like this. Feeling really un christmassy and havnt been able to get out and about much to get in the spirit of things.

Sorry you're feeling rough hayley. And sad for you about your twin. x

Hope DS went to sleep at a reasonable time eventually! DD was up in the night for several hours. Thinking nightmares. Or teeth. Or a developmental change. So anything really! She's getting me in training for a newborn.

My due date hasn't changed as yet.

Good luck mrsb jaykay and others getting scans.

Ipsum, glad to hear you're feeling bit better, take care. I can recommend ACT for stress related health conditions, The Happiness Trap is the best place to start.
Hayley - sorry to hear about your twin, although lovely to hear you have a strong healthy baby.

Had booking in last week, hospital looks very good - clean and timely. No mention of being treated high risk (unlike DS) which am delighted about.

Definitely showing, feel dreadful every day , windy, sore tummy, falling asleep in front of telly every night but wake at 3 for a wee - plus snotty! Really behind in Xmas presents too. In better news last day tomorrow, tg

3rd thread - here you all are! Hello all.

Hayley - sorry to hear about twin 2. Glad that the other twin is doing well though.

9 + 5 today.

This week has mainly been all about sore breasts. Ow ow ow. And to make it worse I still have a cough, and they hurt more each time I cough! Have forked out for some new bras though which help a bit.

My scan isn't until the 6 Jan, which seems ages away. Booking in is next Monday. I think we've made the decision to tell close family and friends at Christmas even though we won't have had the scan yet - people we'd be likely to tell if something went wrong anyway. Feels a bit like tempting fate but I'm tired of keeping it a secret!

Really hoping I feel less knackered in the next trimester!

Hayley that's really sad about twin 2 but I'm glad twin 1 is looking so well.

Good luck for the scans today.

Had my second of three work Xmas events last night. Was meant to be collected by taxi but managed to make an excuse to drive - so glad I did as it was only a small group of us and everyone was doing rounds of shots. Nursing my glass of wine would have failed miserably! Shattered this morning but at least I don't have the hangover the rest are bound to have...
