Morning all & merry Christmas. Sorry to bring down the mood a bit but I really need to vent! We are staying in a hotel this Xmas seeing fil (mil sadly passed away several years ago). Well fil's girlfriend (if you can call a lady in her 60s a gf) had originally offered to cook Xmas lunch. Then only about 3 days ago fil casually mentioned to dh on the phone that she wasn't coming any more & no one was cooking, so of course I offered to do it. Fil is extremely fussy about food & had originally suggested frozen breaded turkey escalopes for our Xmas dinner!!! (Over my dead body!) I come from a family who loves celebrating occasions with big meals so we are poles apart. Dh & I braved the supermarket yesterday to get everything for Xmas lunch, plus things to eat in the evening as he hadn't considered that either, spent a considerable amount of money which we don't really have & took it back to fil. He was so ungrateful, didn't even sag thank you & didn't offer us any money. He said we'd bought too much & no one asked us to, then he sat in silence in front of the tv all afternoon sulking!!! I am absolutely dreading today, having to go over & cook for him (one of his single old friends is also coming over so I'm also cooking for him) with absolutely no gratitude. This is my last Christmas before I give birth & I just wish we were spending it with my family instead (we do alternate years with each family).

Sorry for this extremely long post & thanks for sticking with it if you've got all the way to the end! Just needed to vent!

randdom · 25/12/2013 09:51

Mrsmummytoe that sounds awful. I hope that he is able to get into the Christmas spirit today.

Merry Christmas to everyone!

Minions · 25/12/2013 10:43

Merry Christmas lovely ladies and bumps!

Mrs I hope you enjoy today better - if you love celebrating with a great meal then go for it and enjoy it! If FIL isn't up for it perhaps he'll be happy with Christmas Telly and let you guys enjoy all the lovely food you bought and prepared. Better than frozen breaded turkey :)

mrsmummytobe · 25/12/2013 13:21

Thanks minions & randdom. It's not as bad now - at least I get to hide out in the kitchen until the meal is ready! Still haven't had a thank you or any appreciation though, & he didn't even wish us a merry Christmas this morning! Hope you're all having nice days x

Xavielli · 25/12/2013 13:25

Merry Christmas ladies :) the present frenzy is over and the bigs have gone with their dad to their Nan's for dinner. Off to take ds2 to the park for a big whilst dd2 naps - she's full of cold bless her. Beef in the oven, gammon in the oven...running 2 hours behind schedule but it's only us 4 so who cares?

mrsmummy - what an ungrateful turd! Just ignore him and you and DP have a great day. Hope fil's friend is a bit more jolly xx

rebeccax2 · 25/12/2013 17:28

Merry Christmas! Grin

JodeyP · 26/12/2013 07:47

Merry Christmas ladies. I hope you are all doing well. It's been ages since my last post as just been so busy at work that now I'm off for a bit I can finally catch up. For those who don't remember me from September postings, I'm 18 weeks and 6 days today and have my scan on 9th Jan.

It's lovely to hear of all the scan news and people finding out if they are team blue or pink. I already have a 3 year old DS who is super excited about being a big brother though his choice of names are not ones we are considering; Colly, Chopper and Moshy???????? Xmas Hmm

Anyways, hope you are all having a lush crimbo, I'm off to try and catch up on older threads.

Ps: vivid dreams are making me wake early!! Anyone else having these?

smile4me · 26/12/2013 08:04

Hope everyone had a great Christmas Grin Did anyone do a special Christmas gender reveal? I know a few people that have got sonographer to write gender on a card for them to open on a special occasion with family/DH and though it sounded pretty cool! If I wasn't so intent on a surprise I might have done it too Smile

Wow just think, next year these babies we're cooking will be eating Christmas lunch with us!!!

mrs hope you enjoyed the lovely dinner you prepared with your DH, even if your FIL didn't! And at least you'll be enjoying your 1st Christmas with your baby with your own family Smile

Love your DS's name suggestions Jodey, surely Moshey's got to be a contender Wink

ISawNannyPlumKissingSantaClaus · 26/12/2013 09:44

Happy Christmas everyone! Got the most gorgeous necklace from DP and a lovely giftcard for accessorize! Very nice :)

Managed to think of a name over the last 5 days too (although it's not on our lists at all Xmas Grin so bump will be Sophia Grace to go with our Isabella Rose we already have!

Hows everyone coping not drinking??

Choppa · 26/12/2013 09:51

Lovely name Nanny.

Hope everyone had a lovely Xmas. Ate far too much here at my bump looked HUGE! It was all cheese and pigs in blankets :)

We had our scan on Xmas eve and confirmed team blue. We're going for Max for a first name but still tbc on middle names. Just feels like it's getting closer and closer very quickly!

Anyway scan all fine, measuring perfectly which has reassured me a bit that I'm not having a monster baby!! Our DS1 was 9lbs so I don't really want this little one to be much bigger.

I've put on about a stone so far (prob not helped by Xmas)...anyone else similar?

Choppa · 26/12/2013 09:54

Nanny ....I'm really missing a drink. I had 1/2 glass of wine with lunch yesterday but that's all....really fancied more! I'm not a big drinker normally but I find soft drinks so dull. I think I need to find some good 'mocktails' for New Year's Eve.

dobedobedo · 26/12/2013 10:37

Nanny I had a small flute of champagne with Christmas dinner and it was lovely! Other than that, I was the designated driver. Driving drunk dh and his drunk family around was an experience to say the least!
Next year dh has promised to have a sober Christmas so we can do things that I'm used to doing with MY family (in a different country) like watching movies and going for walks in the country and falling asleep at 5pm!

Xavielli · 26/12/2013 11:19

I don't drink anyway so didn't miss that. I would have REALLY loved some pate for breakfast though!

mrsmummytobe · 26/12/2013 14:23

Thanks smile! We did have a nice meal in the end & we're here for another day so I am just grinning & bearing it! Exactly, next year we can have Christmas exactly as we want it!

Nice to hear about everyone's Christmases! There have been a couple of times when I've felt like I could have done with a drink but I have missed eating things like pates and smoked salmon! Are we allowed to eat smoked salmon btw? I thought no so I've been avoiding it but not 100% sure (I'm still holding out a vague hope)!

Rushyswife · 26/12/2013 15:41

Merry Christmas all!

We had our 20 week scan on the 23rd and we are having another little boy! Delighted that we will have a little brother for DS.

Re: smoked salmon it's absolutely fine if you freeze it, as this kills any potential harmful bacteria. To be honest though, the risk is so minimal anyway I have felt happy eating it whether or not it's been frozen.

I have read a really good pregnancy book, called 'Expecting Better' by Emily Ostler. It's really informative, even as a 2nd timer and has explainations about why the guidelines exist and how likely risks are, which I found lacking in other books.

Hope you are all eating and making merry!

Hezbean · 26/12/2013 16:28

Happy Christmas everyone!! Hope everyone's had a lovely time. Mrsmummy glad it went ok in the end!

I've been eating smoked salmon - I thought normal smoked salmon is fine as the smoking kills bugs but gravadlax isn't as it's just cured in herbs etc. I could be wrong though!

I had a glass of fizz on Xmas eve and half a glass with lunch yesterday. Really missed booze on Christmas Eve as we had friends round and everyone was drinking, but yesterday was ok as we were at the in laws who aren't big drinkers anyway.

DH felt the baby move for the first time last night!! He was really excited and I felt really emotional. Lovely for it to happen on Christmas Day!

Can't believe we'll all have 6-7 month old babies this time next year :-) exciting...

rebeccax2 · 26/12/2013 16:43

rushyswife I love that book!!! It's awesome

mrsmummytobe · 26/12/2013 19:54

Thanks hezbean & rushyswife. That book sounds really good! Sometimes it can feel so confusing what you can & can't do, would be good to have it explained.
