wuzzlefraggle · 17/08/2006 22:15

tigerlion and girlygale - im up all the time in the night for the loo too, and find it really difficult to get back to sleep because of how uncomfortable it is. backache is annoying too,and i second the 10 weeks and counting comment lol

KATGOD · 17/08/2006 22:21

hello, have been following thread via work for ages but scared to post from there. Think I did post way way back when it was the first thread but been super busy so dropped out. You all seem to be doing really well. I'm due 19/10 with No.2. DS is 2.5 and will be 2 and eight months then - he thinks he's got a baby in his tummy and pays no attention to my bump at all.
We are supposed to be having a loft conversion/extension type thing done, which was due to start late summer/early autumn and take 6 weeks. Absolutely no sign of any start date so fear may have house full of builders to share those last few "too big to move" days with. Someone recently posted that they hadn't yet bought baby bath - I'd sat don't bother unless you have giant bathroom and can eaily spare the space = we had a little plastic chair thingY that has suckers to keep it steady in the big bath, he was secure, I had 2 hands to wash him with, worked a treat amd saved so much space and back ache. It was recommended by a friend to us and feel duty bound to pass the word on. well hope you are all well, getting a right kicking from the bump at the mo!!!!

Swizzler · 18/08/2006 09:43

Welcome Katgod - know what you mean about the kicking.

I'm finding it really difficult to get comfortable at night as well - poor DH is being distrubed as well as every time I turn over my beanbag cushion rustles!

Numbers so far for the meet-up (will book a table this afternoon, so get in quick):

Swizzler
Gingeme + DH + 2 DS's (is this right? Or 4?)
Clon
Whiffy
Dogmum
Majormoo
Tigerlion

I make that 9 - will book a table for 10 just in case.

Gingeme: of course you can bring whoever you like. I'm impressed by your DH wanting to meet a load of heavily pg women liable to talk about constipation and leaky boobs... my DH would run a mile .

Clon: I'm also planning a raid on John Lewis so I may see you there

emzickle · 18/08/2006 10:22

wow I wish I could come eat pizza with you all...

Hope every one is ok x

clon · 18/08/2006 11:07

Good morning all. Thanks for the birthday wishes, had a really lovely evening with dh.
Tigerlion I had to laugh regarding the perinal massage I've mentioned it to dh and I think he thinks I'm kidding him but oh no!
This week the uncomfortable nights have really kicked in and also the swollen feet, I just keep thinking the weeks to go have got into single figures now so it makes me feel slightly better that the end is in sight.

Gingeme · 18/08/2006 11:54

Swizzler. Could you please book for my dh and 2 ds's will need high chair for ds too. Dh said if it gets too much hell find another table to sit at depending how busy it is. Thanks so much. Hes used to it all after all hes done this 3 times before and hes pretty open to it all. My ds's can bring their Gameboys etc just in case they get bored.

wuzzlefraggle · 18/08/2006 12:09

welcome back to the thread katgod

hope that all you girls have a nice time at the meet-up

clon - glad that you had a nice birthday

not much to report here...had loads of thunder and lightening her through the nght which (eventhough meant i didnt sleep hardly at all) was pretty cool to watch.

Gemmitygem · 18/08/2006 13:37

thanks for details whiffy! I'll get in touch when I'm around in Sept.
Off to italy on Sun so will be on when I get back..

Baby is still transverse at 32 weeks and I am in total panic, as head is supposed to be down: has anyone else got this prob? Doing loads of walking and joggling but it is comfortable lying as it is! Terrified of a Caesarian.. oh well, I suppose it had to be something, after having such an easy preg so far!

enjoy the meet up everyone!

Swizzler · 18/08/2006 14:34

Right, table booked at Pizza Express, Langham Place, for 10 people, with a high chair, for 6pm. So there's a space for anyone who'd like to change their mind

Had my first antenatal class yesterda- not a fanstastic amount of use, but I do know a bit more about 'hospital policy' - no food or drink and I don't need to bring a nightie. Oh, and they've had a new active birth pool fitted, so I will be arm-wrestling the other interested woman for sole use

Swizzler · 18/08/2006 14:37

PS: Gemmity - I think the baby is still transverse as well. Not sure, but doesn't seem to be head down at the moment. Suppose I'll find out at my next mw appointment. Trying not to worry about it yet.

Swizzler · 18/08/2006 15:59

MEET-UP: Forgot to say that the table is booked in the name Locker. Not that we'll be hard to spot...

binbon2 · 18/08/2006 17:54

Hi Ladies

Tigerlion - I keep debating about renting a Tens machine too. I did last time, but didn't really notice if it worked or not. I think I have pretty much ecided not to this time, but there is still that niggle of doubt.....!

As for epidurals, I had one of those too, but contractions still seemed to be really painful and I started on the gas and air after the epidural. Not sure if it was because the epidural didn't work. I think the midwife said tat they don't give you a full block so that you still know when to push. Anyway DS was forceps, and it wasn't at all painful, so perhaps they gave me enough to block the pain at that stage. Something to ask about at antenatal classes. I think I'd like to try without the epidural this time, but will keep an open mind.

My nights aren't too bad so far. It takes me a while to get comfortable when I first go to bed, but I seem to settle down much more comfortably after the middle of the night loo trips.

How are other people finding their bladders? The other day, when I was getting ready for work, I cleaned my teeth, went to the loo. I then came downstairs to get my coat and needed to go again - and the amount wasn't insignificantt either! Is this happening to anyone else?

Emzickle - I know what you mean about tubes. They scare me a bit too!

Hope you all enjoy the pizza

luboo · 18/08/2006 18:18

Girlygale1 I am totally with you - I've had enough too! Yesterday I was soooo peed off with it all. My hips also hurt at night, trips to the loo and rearranging the cushions when I get back to bed are becoming very tedious! And yes my back's also killing me. I felt very sorry for myself! Then dreamt DH left me because I had become boring and mumsy!

majormoo · 18/08/2006 19:59

I'm finding the nights uncomfortable as well-haven't even got a big bump.
Gemmitygem-my baby is transverse as well. I have a scan 8th Sept as also have low-lying placenta. If placenta has moved I will be spending the last month on a birthing ball/frantically scrubbing kitchen floors to try to turn the baby. Will not bother if placenta still low as will have to have c-section anyway.
Tigerlion, I am not going to bother with a tens this time if I do go for a natural birth. That is mainly because it all happened so quickly last time there wasn't time for it to be much use
see some of you Monday

girlygale1 · 18/08/2006 21:40

gemitygem - how on earth do you jog!!! I'm very impressed, I'm lucky if I can walk to the top of the stairs without puffing like a train!!! - Also, I daren't jog as I'll end up wetting myself!!!!! Things aren't the same as they used to be! - Yep I spend half my life on the loo too, and if I have a braxton hicks, it really makes me want to wee!!! (TMI??!!!) and don't even go there with sneezing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only thing I would say about a tens machine is that you have to use it from the very first contraction, so you can really feel the benefit - apparently if you use it when the contractions are really strong it losses its effects. If all else fails - you can wire dh/dp to it and everytime you have a contraction press the booster button so they suffer with you!!!!!!!!!!!!! DH did actually try it on his hand when I hired it, nearly jumped out of his skin ... bless!!!!!!

(I'm not really a psycho in case you are all worried now!)

I have started to pack my bag, but can't remember all that I need to pack, apart from the obvious, nappies, baby grows, sexy disposible knickers pads etc ... any ideas?

Gingeme · 18/08/2006 23:09

Thankyou Swizzler. So looking forward to it.I hope you get to use the pool. Hope I can this time too. There are two at my hospital and both were free the last time when I had ds3.
Have had a realy crappy anniversary. Usualy I get dh a rose for every year were married so this year I got him 5. He usualy gets me a bouquet. Nothing...not even a daisy! A card but thats it. I dont expect anything the rest of the year but... and to top it all hes gone out for a drink with his mate because it was his birthday on Wed and he was working. As he was leaving I said sarcasticaly'enjoy our anniversary drink with your mate wont you?'. Dont hols this against him on Monday though. I just put it down to him being a bloke.Well I hope you all have a good weekend and dont get too wet in the rain.xx

DogMum · 19/08/2006 17:49

Ah Gingeme. They just don't get it! Or maybe he's saving it. Maybe they might think we don't need romance at the moment. I think someone ought to tell them. Anyway, what goes on MNET stays on MNET, so don't worry about Monday.

Tigerlion, I asked about TENS at antenatal class last week, as everything I'd heard seemed to suggest that it doesn't work. The m'wife said that they work as long as you put them in the right place and perhaps put a bit of surgical tape at the edge to make sure they stay on. She also said they work best on clean dry skin with no lotion or anything. I'm going to rent one on the grounds that it won't do any harm, but it might help.

Welcome Katgod, hope all is well.

Swizzler, wasn't Marthahm coming on Monday as well?

GemmityGem, Swizzler - I asked my midwife about the position of the baby last time (30wks) and she said it was FAR too early to worry about that, as even if the baby were in the right position, it wouldn't be for long as it's still moving around. I can't remember whether she said 34 or 36 weeks was the time to watch out. I've got a birth ball to be on the safe side too.

Sorry about monster post. No excuses - just the same as for everything else - pg.

jmcmugwump · 19/08/2006 22:30

Hi folks - haven't looged on for 3 weeks and has taken me an hour to catch up!!
Glad everyone seems well except for a few aches and pains.
Just thought i'd let you know some of the cheaper options for some of the things mentioned - Gaviscon - you should be able to get your midwife/doctor to prescribe it FOC - birthing ball - try the sports section of the Argos catalogue - just the same thing but much much cheaper - and the v shaped pillows, again in the pillow section of the Argos book - i got one today for £6 - everywhere seems to triple the price as soon as the word maternity is mentioned!

I hope everyone has a good time at the meet up - unfortunately I can't make it as I have to work - started training my maternity cover last week, and is really weird to be handing over my job to someone else - a bit sad really - although I know that he will be really rubbish at it so that's OK

I don't know if i'm just weird but I am actually loooking forward to the birth - finally getting to meet the thing that keeps sitting on my bladder and making my belly into funny shapes - not sure if my eagerness in nievity or blind optimism but a bit of positive thinking can't hurt can it, and the birth can't go on for ever can it???;)
