clon · 16/08/2006 17:07

That would be lovely, how can I find the details of when and where?

marthahm · 16/08/2006 18:28

hi clon, welcome. pizza is at 6pm on monday night just off oxford circus, can't remember address but one of the others should, it's v. near top shop.
dogsmum-sound advice! i do think dogs are quite like children -we probably won't be thinking that in 9 weeks time. by then we'd probably happily swap the screaming infant for a labrador.

girlygale1 · 16/08/2006 20:06

Hi everyone - I will have to look out for any strange eating habits from dd!!!!

She has got a great habit of pulling wall-paper off the walls, and drawing on all the other walls that are painted ... bless!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wuzzlefraggle · 16/08/2006 21:12

Swizzler · 17/08/2006 09:30

MEET-UP ON THE 21ST: could you let me know if you are coming so I can book a table?

Whiffy posted the directions a few days ago - should be a little down the page. We're meetig in Pizza Express, nearest tube Oxford Circus, at 6pm.

Look forward to seeing you there!

BENDYB · 17/08/2006 09:35

hi wuzzlefraggle, we had nearly sorted out the room, but now we're movin! We've found somewhere a lot better & bigger. I'm really gettin in a panic tho, just dunno how we gonna have it all done in time!

Swizzler · 17/08/2006 09:43

Here's a copy of the directions to Pizza Express:

directions for those who weren't around last time are:
Oxford Circus tube, come out at north regent st/east Oxford street exit, waddle past topshop maternity shop (if you can resist) and head up Regent st heading north towards funny shaped church thing. Pizza express is on the right about 30 metres before the church

Gingeme · 17/08/2006 10:00

Thanks got the directions. Definately coming. Think Ill put a bottle of Gaviscon in my bag for afters.
Talking of which for those of you still paying for Gaviscon you can buy a much cheaper alternative that works just as well. Can buy it in Tesco, Morrisons or Savers. Literaly the same stuff and just as disgusting but half the price.
If your swigging as much as I am at the moment thought it might be a handy tip for you.
All is well here. Boys being a pain in the bum. Little ds is doing realy well with the potty training. And bump is on the move loads.
Hope all you ladies are keeping well. Cant wait till Monday. Will be nice to put some faces to the names. xx

clon · 17/08/2006 10:08

Thanks for the welcome. I'm up for a pizza so count me in, I'll look out for all the bumps to know which table!
The pregnancy so far has been a breeze (my sisters hate me!) although I did struggle a bit with that heatwave. Starting to get weary and get the odd backache so down hill from now on I guess!
I'm a bit slow with all the abbreviations, I've worked out db - son, dd- daughter, dh - hubbie but what's with the d at the front?

wuzzlefraggle · 17/08/2006 10:17

bendyb - lol thats sods law...decorate everything then decide to move lol. well im going to try and do a little more preparation work for the babys room now, so i will chat to you ladies later xoxox

mamado · 17/08/2006 10:19

Hi all. Hope you are all feeling well - I'm starting to feel like a not so small whale and it can only get worse from here!

Girlygale1 - you are not alone! My dd [2.8] is also getting really clingy, she keeps on snuggling up and saying things like 'I love my mama!' and if I leave the room she'll say to dp 'I've lost my mama, where's my mama!'. I've never left her even for one night so am a bit worried about going into hospital for the baby, especially if I have to stay in for ages like last time. Also she's due to start nursery for 3 sessions a week in Sept and I'm a bit worried that the timing is really bad - she's never been looked after by anyone but me, dp or grandma. Anyone got any advice about starting nursery and the timing of it?!

As for births - I was determined not to have a cesarian or forceps last time, and in the end it ended up being ventouse. I had an epidural so didn't feel a thing [other than embarrassment!], and even though I had quite bad tears they did heal quickly. I have heard since that although forceps may sound awful they are in fact kinder to the baby but less kind to the mum - hence the preference for ventouse. Basically just go for what you feel at the time - while it is obviously fanatastic to do it pain-killer free and you probably feel like a super-woman after, no-one gives you a medal for it and progress has been made in pain-relief and assistance during birth for a reason. Just keep your options open, it will not matter one jot once you have your bundle of joy in your arms .

whiffy · 17/08/2006 12:29

I'm on for Pizza so count me in for monday. Looking forward to it.

Wonder of there's a term for a group of PG women together - a 'waddle of women', or - given the state of my boobs - an 'uber-udder' consortium, maybe.

Gingeme · 17/08/2006 14:22

He he like that whiffy a waddle of women. Feel like it today. Definately geting the pregnant waddle now. Just wanted to ask can dh and ds's come on Monday? DH said hed sit on a different table and pretend he doesnt know me. TBH I think hes just as curious about you lot as I am. He thinks its brill that Ive got you lot to load off on and share stuff with. We often talk about what weve been chatting about on this thread. Im also a bit nervous about doing the journey into London on my own.....

DogMum · 17/08/2006 14:29

Swizzler, I'd like to come on Monday. I'm not sure about uber-udder convention though. I know my boobs are bigger than they've ever been, but my stomach sticks out so far that they still look tiny. DP said he saw bellies to rival mine at the beer festival the other week. (Made me feel so good - wonder if he's noticed I don't have a beard yet.)

Welcome clon. We've got a good age-range of mums on the thread. It's my first too and I'll be 40 a couple of months after the birth. The party's off though - I can't think that far ahead at the moment.

BendyB, I'm a little concerned about getting the decorating done in time, but I'm comforting myself that the midwife doesn't come and check before they let you go home with the baby. They do check that you have a car seat though and that arrived yesterday. When my sister had her most recent (3yrs) they actually went out to the car to check it was fitted properly.

clon · 17/08/2006 14:41

You're making me nervous DogMum, I haven't got a thing except some freebie clothes and crib. I'm still in a daze about looking at prams/buggies a few weeks back that I haven't ventured near baby departments since! I did look up some Which reports though and thought how good am I?
As for getting the baby room ready we are in the middle of renovating bathroom and kitchen so the kitchen is currently stored in the baby room and the house is a tip!
Anyway on a brighter note it's my bday today and lovely hubbie has booked a gorgeous restaurant for tonight but can pregnant women eat Scallops? I love them although have steered clear of shell fish til now. Anyone advise?

Gingeme · 17/08/2006 16:19

Happy Birthday clon. No not a good idea eating anything raw at the moment though personaly I wouldnt touch scalops even if I werent preg YUK! Dh and I are going for a meal tomm. Its our 5th wedding anniversary. Dont know where yet hes booked it.Just hope its not McDonlads !!!!!!
Im afraid Im too organised. Got everything we need except the bath. Even got 3 packets of firtst size nappies. Nearly packed my hospital bag the other day! Still got 11 weeks to go.

clon · 17/08/2006 16:40

Thanks for the advice Gingeme, I shall sadly overlook scallops on the menu! You don't know what you're missing
Congrats on your wedding anniversary hope you have a lovely time tomorrow.

Very impressed with your organisation, maybe it's time I pulled my finger out and got going on a few things.

Gingeme · 17/08/2006 16:43

I do clon I tried them a couple of times and nearly threw my guts up both times. I like most shell fish but theyre just gross. I love jellied eels however which most people think are yuk. Thanks for the good wishes. Are you joining us waddle of women on Monday? I missed the last meet up because dh was working so realy looking forward to this one.

clon · 17/08/2006 16:53

LOL! Yes I shall be waddling along on Monday, I may have to pop into Mothercare/John Lewis beforehand for fear of being shamed for my lack of baby products!
I'm like you and think this site is very exciting. I told hubbie about it and he thinks its great too, probably because I can prattle on to others now and not him!!

wuzzlefraggle · 17/08/2006 18:06

Happy Birthday Clon! many happy returns and i hope that you have a lovely meal with your dh

majormoo · 17/08/2006 20:32

Happy Birthday clon
I'd like to come Monday Swizzler

Tigerlion · 17/08/2006 20:57

I will try to come too as it will do me good to get out of the house.

For those of you thinking of perineal massage, my DH (think D stands for Darling or Dear?) had the dreadful task of doing it during my last PG. We started around week 34 and just with a wheatgerm oil. Gave birth to DS weighing at 8lb13 without any tearing and really do put it down to the massage. Will definitely be doing it again. A lot of friends who did have tears had not had the massages.

Really p+%ed off as we got a cot bed at the weekend from near Sittingbourne. Just opened the box to put the cot up to find the pack of screws missing. I can see that it is going to be one big challenge trying to get them to send the appropriate screws. Aarrgghhhh!

Is anyone else up throughout the night? I am constantly getting up to go to the loo and then unable to get back to sleep. Just can't get comfortable at the moment and know that it will not get much better between now and the birth.

What does everyone think of TENS machines? I rented one for my last PG and did not find that it did much and when it did I think that I put it down to purely psychological issues ? in my head, i thought it should work, so it did - at least it was a distraction. Wondering whether to rent one again or not. What does everyone else think about them?

Also really not knowing how to write my birth plan. I had two epidurals that went wrong last time so had to have pethedine in the last twenty minutes. As a result both I and the baby were completely drowsy for hours after the birth. Have those of you that have had epidurals that worked decided definitely to have epidurals this time round?

Hopefully see you all on Monday.

girlygale1 · 17/08/2006 21:41

Hi ladies, I am not going to be able to make it to London - I have to work and also, I'm a scard
y cat and can't do tubes/london on my own!!! (sad I know). Re; tens machines ... I would highly recommend one, (when it worked ... long story) mine was fantastic with dd - I did manage with just the tens and gas and air ... but thats not me being a hero or anything like that, I was well prepared to have everything they could throw at me, I just seemed to manage ok without.

A friend said to me at my first pregnancy ... if you were having your leg cut off, would you see if you could go without an anaesthetic and suffer the pain? Well its the same with birth, the epidural is there to help get rid of the pain ... so I then decided it isn't a big issue if I have one!!! - I will with this birth if I feel I need it.

Happy birthday clon!

I am up nearly all flaming night on the loo too - am suffering with my back now and well and truly had enough of being pregnant. It is so uncomfortable and so pants!!! Fed up with it all now.

My hips seem to be seizing up too. 10 weeks and counting.
