Detective and Nervous now I want onion rings, lovely beer battered onion rings with sweet chilli sauce. I can see me popping into the supermarket on the way home from the midwife for some. Somehow my toast and banana just isn't cutting it!

I'm going to try to get some more sleep 3 and a half hours will not do at all

Glad you enjoyed them detective thinking once it gets light I migh take a trip to tesco after all, chocolate cake would be worth it right?

Just having a bath, my hips are getting worse its painful to just generally move everything happens at the worst time

That is all the sleep I've had too Caz. Starting to get tired now. Could squeeze just over an hour in now if I turn computer and light off and go back to bloody sleep!

Some breast feeding support. The best advice I can give having failed once, not tried once and then bf DS is to keep trying to feed and be persistent. At least know in yourself that you have given it a proper go if that is what you want to do. Also know that once is established will be ok although first few weeks are hard it will. Ot last forever.

nervous!! you're out already! I love to saok in the bath for at least an hour!!! (not that we have a bath atm, only a crap half bath)

Nervous it might be worth having the WC vaccine anyway just so you know you won't get it and bring it to your baby.

GT I can't believe they made you give formula after only three hours! It sounds like you had some interventions in your labour and if you missed out on that initial skin-to-skin time then it's likely you just missed the optimum time for that first feed and baby is tired out from the birth (he's been through a lot too - getting squished and getting a share of the drugs). He's probably too tired to be bothered latching on whereas a bottle doesn't take any effort for him. I'll put some ideas below:
~ Ask to see the breastfeeding specialist (assuming they have one) as soon as she comes in.
~ Nipple shields can be useful for a baby that won't latch (or sore nipples) but they're not ideal for long term use so maybe keep them for a last resort.
~ Ask to express milk (it'll be a few mls at this stage) rather than giving formula.
~ To latch on baby must open his mouth very wide with his tongue forward (i.e. not crying) and take a huge mouthful of breast with your nipple pointing to the roof of his mouth. The milk squirts out from a few points so flat nipples shouldn't make any difference.
~ Look at the Kellymom website or start/read threads in here.
~ Be aware that some midwives only pay lip service to the breast is best message and would prefer you to give a bottle as it's one less thing for them to do then.

GT forgot to say then when your milk comes in on day three you'll have more than you know what to do with and it'll be easier for you and baby. I also forgot to say CONGRATULATIONS on your baby boy! I can't wait to hear what name you choose.

Lovely to hear from GT enjoy your boy and I look forward to hearing what you name him, be persistent with help for things you're not sure of, that is after all what the staff are there for!

I managed to get a whole nights sleep last night and then forced myself out of bed at 6am so I am all ready to start the day, my only plans are to do something this morning after not leaving my bed once yesterday at all, I'll probably end up at my sisters house gossiping all morning, then I have to take DS1 to CF clinic, it should be the last one before baby arrives, thank goodness because it's long and tiring and DS feels it necessary to revert to a toddler when we're there.

Nothing going on in the baby department though, no contractions, no BH no more show or anything, apart from the wriggler inside me it's like I'm not even pregnant (I know now I've written this I'll end up with every 'symptom' under the sun today!)

It's raining, dark and cold here today on the sarf coast of England, winter is certainly here!

I had an awful night sleep, major heartburn and for the first time gaviscon didn't work :(

Has anyone heard of or taken oramorph as an alternative to pethidine?
I really don't like the sound of pethidine, the lack of control as well as the affect it can have on baby.

I wonder if anyone will make it to a bonfire night fireworks display or if y'all will be having babies?! They dont do bonfire night over here. I wish they did just so i could have bonfire toffee!!

Early days for feeding but I say persevere too, it's so worth it when you all get it sorted. I remember the MW telling me my nipples were 'big' for breastfeeding a newborn - was mortified, I didn't think they were any bigger than anyone else's (and still don't!). Anyway, it all worked out, breastfed for 10 months in the end.

Congratulations GT plenty of time to sort out the feeding. Baby on boob as much as possible. Your nipples will be perfectly adequate. Mine are big too, apparently. Must admit I have never compared them to anyone else's.

I fed DS2 for a year and my nipples are like dinner plates these days

liliana you've made me feel better, I thought the thread was very near the end earlier, but I had mis-calculated! hehe.

My midwife asked if I wanted her to look at my nipples a couple of appointments ago, she said she could tell me if they were flat etc but to be honest what could she do for me if they are flat!! I didnt bother getting them out!

Pasties I miss Bonfire Night too, the Norn Irish couldn't care less about anyone trying to blow up the Houses of Parliament. We do get Halloween instead but I never had that as a child so it just seems like begging for sweets to me. The kids like it though.

yes - halloween isnt the same as bonfire night! I used to love the firesworks and the toffee and the burgers etc, we had a great fireworks show on the beach each year!
