Any of you sling fans? I'm looking at Moby wraps. I had a clip sling thing with DS but never really got to grips with it.

Well done Jojo on your good result, and great news Dame on your happy scan!

Sorry to hear about the health problems some of you are having to endure, sounds really hard on you.

To whoever was asking about when you might show (sheldonella?) last time I was about 20 weeks before I looked like I had a bump, rather than just looking fat! However... I caught sight of myself in a shop window and my god, I look about 5months gone already!!! I am going to find some baggy tops to last me the next fortnight until I have the scan and hopefully have some good news to tell everyone!

confuddledDOTcom · 23/08/2012 20:37

I wouldn't worry too much about foods that are allowed, as long as it's all things in moderation most things are OK. Even wine, a glass or two once or twice a week is fine, binge drinking isn't. If you're anything like me you won't have enough tolerance for more than a glass or two! My favourite food myth is runny eggs. In the UK they're Lion eggs so are safe to have runny (I seem to like them in pregnancy - not a craving though I think)

Harriet Jones. Prime Minister. (Grin How did I miss that name?) How come you've got to wait 11 weeks for a scan?

backward, I'm a wrapping fan! I make my own, I've found a nice heavy jersey that has all the benefits of stretchy but strong enough to carry older babies.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 23/08/2012 20:39

And mandasand share your pain on the book, I was finishing my Msc when was pg with DD and it was very hard work!!!

tiddleypompom · 23/08/2012 20:40

Evening all,

I echo tedmundo's very eloquent ode to those suffering more than we. Hats off to you all and your attitudes are quite inspiring and guilt inducing.

V quick as DH due home & was hoping to not be on MN when he does (he has had truly crappy long day at work then long commute and I have had a lovely time with DS = more guilt).

sarah your story made me cross - I recall a time when I was quite heavily preg with DS, walking down the pavement minding my own business and a car bloody bmw of course parked up in front of me, guy got out and door slammed into my bump. Bastard made cursory noise and bolted. I was v v tempted to accidently (on purpose) kick his door. But I didn't as I'm a goody 2-shoes, sigh. Anyway, the bean is well insulated even if mum is well insulted (see what I did there?).

possom you are quite the marsupial. Yes I like sling and intend to purchase a moby wrap myself. DS got big quickly however and was out of his baby bjorn too fast. I replaced with super dooper backpack, which we still use.

Booze - I had a glass of cava yesterday, in our top field, in the sunshine on a rug with DH and DS and parents. It was bliss and I felt no guilt I'm afraid. That's it for the week though and only the 3rd glass in 12 weeks.

Have been googling private scans and have found a 4d one locally (ish) to us. Very sorely tempted as my 20wk scan letter came through today and it isn't till 7th Oct!! Which is far too long to wait.

Oo, I can hear car engine. Off to pretend I have been slaving over hot stove :o

Good luck with book manda, almost there...

HarrietJonesPrimeMinister · 23/08/2012 20:43

possum I relied on the pram too much last time. Dd3 hated slings later on.
confuddled how do you find slings with your PGP etc?

confuddledDOTcom · 23/08/2012 20:58

I can't push a push chair because of the pressure on my back, so it's my only way of getting around. Wrap slings, when tied well don't put any pressure onto the back and pelvis so they're brilliant for me. I've had the two youngest in a wraps at the same time. It's not easy because of the balance and it gets very hot but it doesn't hurt.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 23/08/2012 21:05

tiddley twenty week scan...TWENTY WEEK SCAN?!? I haven't even has my feckin 12 week one yet!!! GrinGrin can you tell I am getting impatient!

Liked your play on words there; was slick! Wink

HarrietJonesPrimeMinister · 23/08/2012 21:13

tiddley my 20 week scan is a21 week one 31/10

ethelred I'm not getting a 12 week one :(

confuddledDOTcom · 23/08/2012 21:17

How come you're not getting a 12 week scan? My next one is 16 weeks, will probably be 18 weeks then and weekly until 24. Wanna swap? Have to put up with dildo cam though Grin

ThreeForTea · 23/08/2012 21:21

Evening! Agree with the runny egg food myth Confuddled! I bet that is something that will change in the next few years. I know two people only who have ever had Salmonella: my year six teacher (he ate a raw egg everyday - in the 80's/90's) and my mum from ice in a drink in Spain in 1989. She was 3 months pg with my brother at the time bit was ok luckily.

So I have been signed off work for another two weeks until the 6th of Sept!! eek, will tell boss tomorrow, wish me luck.

I would really like to use a sling this time, couldn't last time because of such slow recovery from section so will probably just have to have my eye on one to purchase after the beautifully successful Vbac i'm hoping for!

Lexiindisguise · 23/08/2012 21:40

Evening all! Congrats JoJo on your exam!
tedmundo I'm with you on the wine - I've been have a white wine spritzer with carefully measured 100ml wine and soda, once a week - I like wine really dry and can't find an alcohol free one I like. Ginger beer or water the rest of the time.

Am getting very ahead of myself but got a bit upset tonight about going back to work after LO is here. I have to go back min hours 4 days a week because of DH's position with his business, our mortgage etc - but I'll be out of the house from 7-6, so no chance for supper in the week and I suspect with work, commute, childcare I will be tired and no-one will get the best of me! Not even sure if work will let me drop hours either. It seems like a forest of diificult choices. I know I should be concentrating on the pregnancy and not worrying about this at 12 weeks - but I can't help it! Sigh!

Went to the hairdresser today who was shocked at the amount of regrowth I had.....pregnancy hair hormones having one positive effect, at least.

HarrietJonesPrimeMinister · 23/08/2012 21:48

confuddled had one at 9 weeks and they said that would do Hmm

HarrietJonesPrimeMinister · 23/08/2012 21:50

confuddled interesting about the push chair/sling as I needed something to hold me up so the pushchair took the place of my crutches.

Funnylittleturkishdelight · 23/08/2012 21:52

Wow so much to catch up on! You've all been so busy!

How come no 12 week scan, harrietjones? That is rubbish! Will they not do your measurements for the tests?

manda even worse than conceiving abroad, there was no TTC I've been on the pill and this has totally scuppered my work plans for the next year! I was meant to be travelling the world...not now! But I wouldn't change it now for anything- I'm so happy!

lexi I've been having the same worries- 12hr days and can't see how we can afford for me to not go back. Makes me really sad and want to rob a bank/sell all my worldly possessions/live the good life!

Funnylittleturkishdelight · 23/08/2012 21:53

Sorry hj cross posts!

Sad for you! I feel greedy! I got 8 weeks and 12!

sarahs999 · 23/08/2012 22:03

I'm confused how a 9 week scan can replace the 12 week - which is basically meant to be for Nuchal transucency and can only be measured between 11 adn 13.6 weeks. I presume you don't mind not having this test Harriet? Yu can always get it privately. What part of the country are you in that doesn't do them automatically?

HarrietJonesPrimeMinister · 23/08/2012 22:09

Sarah/Turkish- am in Cumbria , it's not done here. Although I wouldn't have had it anyway.

GummiberryJuice · 23/08/2012 22:24

Harriet I was the same with dd1 her scan was at 9.5 weeks. But I had double test at 16 weeks so had scan, but if I hadn't have had test I wouldn't have got another scan until 20 weeks

Ethel not long now this time 2 weeks we will have seen our beans, or if 10 weeks now our kumquats Grin

Lexiindisguise · 23/08/2012 22:35

turkish we weren't TTC either, DH just started his own company so not the best timing Blush

theTramp · 23/08/2012 22:51

Blimey ladies you're all suffering loads of aches & pains. I genuinely feel ashamed for moaning about being exhausted, nauseous and gassy.

Apparently I should have 12 week, 16 week, 20 week an as deemed aprop by consultant no o scans thereafter. Although as they had no free dates for 12 week til nearly 14 week & said I shouldn't book in 16 week til after that I'm not holding my breath. They're v lovely, it's not their fault that they're under resources and budgeted vs demand but it's not terribly reassuring. MrM and I are paying for an earlier scan at dead on 12 weeks privately and we are going to ask about costs for additional care. This is baby no 1, I'm high risk MC and still birth for 6 out of 10 risk factors and earliest I can see a consultant is end of Sept. Im doing my best to ignore hormones and remain level headed.

Re timings etc - I can empathise. I started my own bis earlier this year and this month is busiest month I've had and I'm literally falling asleep at my desk. It's just not good enough - but what can you do? I wouldn't change it for the world, but timing could have been better :)

Writing a book and studying for exams - I have no idea how you're managing. Seriously I'm starting to see certain women in whole new "superwoman" light.

HermioneBoo · 23/08/2012 22:52

Evening all!
Is it really true that runny Lion stamp eggs are ok? I've been wanting boiled egg and soldiers for so long! Egg mayo sandwiches, omelettes and even my yummy scrambled egg isn't hitting the mark. I've also been craving prawn sandwiches but MW said no, I rebelled and had smoked salmon sandwiches instead which hit the mark but are probably even less recommended.
I'm counting down the days until 3rd Sept scan, I've booked the morning off work so me and DH can either celebrate or sort out next steps, fx for celebrating!
I've got tomorrow off work (have to use up holiday days before new academic year) and don't know what to do! My ms has been practically non existent the past few days (replaced by heartburn and tiredness but I'd rather have that) and had got quite used to being too nauseous to do anything but sleep and watch telly, I might even have to do some housework!
I've been looking at maternity pillows, thinking it might relieve a bit of hip pain, does anyone have any recommendations? There seem to be so many different types and shapes

Em2010 · 23/08/2012 22:54

Evening All, just a quickie to say hello. I've been MIA all day looking after PILs who have just arrived. Haven't sat down all day!!

jojo congrats on your exam pass.

manda keep going!!

lexi, I hope you're able to comd up with a solution that you feel comfortable with. Going back to work after baby is tough but the thought of it is the worst bit if you know what I mean!

I also cracked on the wine tonight, getting MIL her glass of wine... it just smelt so good... I had to have a cheeky sip!! Mmmm

Saw the consultant (or rather his minion) yesterday. Was a total farce really. Took an hour an half, all to get some sodding aspirin that I could have bought from boots in less than 5 minutes! Dh had ds in the office with him, he rang me to see how much longer I was going to be. Sounded a bit desperate, I could hear the human hurricane causing chaos in the background !!

Em2010 · 23/08/2012 22:56

hermione cross posted! Smoked salmon is fine (though I am off it!) I've heard the dream genii pillow is good am thinking of getting one, anyone else got one?

theTramp · 23/08/2012 23:00

I had some Becks Blue at weekend and oddly my alcohol cravings have now gone.

I can't eat eggs - exception being scrambled occasionally - at best of times. I thought being preggers I should try to eat them for protein. Jees jut the smell almost made me vomit. So the theory that when pregnant I'd suddenly want to eat meat & eggs as given up 23 years ago is proving to be utter bollocks. Indeed MrM had smoked haddock with poached egg at restaurant at weekend and I had to switch sides of table so I couldn't see it.

I think I've got all the anti egg and you've picked up my share of any egg based desire. Bleurgh.
